Lassiters Hotel Foyer
Paul has red lipstick smeared all over his mouth, which Estelle offers to wipe off, but he hastily says he'll fix it. Paul tries to appear as though he's still interested in Estelle as he sets up a room for her on the computer, plus all the perks. "And now you know where to find me when you want me," Estelle coyly adds. "Yes I do," Paul replies, giving her a plastered on smile, which soon morphs into a grimace when her back is turned.
Bar
Nicolette can't believe her mum is still merrily hanging around when they were supposed to meet outside, but Jane figures they should stay put. Nicolette's embarrassed that she's been stood up, but Jane still has faith in Asher and thinks Nic should try and reschedule. Or make a new friend in the meantime!
Lassiters Hotel
Harlow brings her housekeeping trolley to Estelle's room and discovers her connection to Terese - and apparently to Paul. Estelle can't help bragging about how 'close' her and Paul are becoming, even asking Harlow for tips on what her granddad likes. Feeling uncomfortable, Harlow mutters something about chess before leaving the room.
Ramsay Street
Chloe apologises to Kiri for having to call into work before their movie night, but now she's all ready for her new assistant tomorrow. They bump into Freya and Levi walking down #24's driveway, and the couple comment on the choccies and wine the girls are carrying. Kiri and Chloe say they're just hanging out, but Freya and Levi know what happened after the wedding and slyly inform them the house will be vacant until quite late. Kiri and Chloe share an awkward smile before heading into the house.
Number 22
Glen's a bit antsy when Harlow is late bringing his pills, wishing she rang to give him a heads up. Harlow apologises for getting caught at work, but assures him she's got alarms on her phone. When Glen suggests they make the intervals between the pills shorter, Harlow isn't keen, reminding him that's why she's helping him in the first place so he doesn't become addicted. Their conversation is cut short when Terese walks in. Harlow covers her visit by telling Terese that she just met her mum at the hotel. Terese can only shake her head when Harlow says that Paul's putting Estelle up in a room.
Bar
Jane is now a few drinks in and is having a delightful time. She finds Nicolette sitting alone at the booth and says she just had a great conversation with a woman named Stacey.
JANE: She's teaching me all about composting.
NICOLETTE: Couldn't worm your way out of that conversation?
JANE: (laughing uproariously) No, don't waste your witty lines on me! Stacey would love that, she's into wordplay.
NICOLETTE: No mum, I'm not in the mood for mingling.
JANE: Oh come on, you're not going to make any new friends sitting here like a cold baked potato. No, you need your mother's help.
Much to Nicolette's horror, Jane leaps up to command the attention of the group she was just chatting to.
JANE: Everyone! Everyone please pay attention to my lesbian daughter!
NICOLETTE: Mum!
JANE: (ignoring her) Not only is she beautiful, but she's funny and she's a great mother and a terrific friend she makes a wonderful wedding cake!
Nic begs her to stop, but can't help but feel fond towards her mum when Jane takes her hands and says how much she loves spending time with her and being part of her life. Giggling, Jane says they should take a selfie, but then notices a text from Asher on Nic's phone. Nicolette's pleased to see that Asher's almost at the bar, so Jane grins and scurries away. Shortly after, Asher arrives and is happy that Nicolette is still at the bar.
The Waterhole
Levi and Freya are playing darts while Harlow looks through her phone. Harlow tells them that she was fixing some alarms and then decided to do a deep dive on her apps, not realising she had so many downloaded. Levi becomes concerned, though, when Harlow asks if they've heard of a certain app she just found buried in a folder.
LEVI: It's spyware. We learn about this in cyber security training. Harlow, somebody might be monitoring your phone.
HARLOW: It has to be Corey.
Bar
Asher wants to play a game of pool with Nicolette, but Nic doesn't want them to see her competitive side. Asher then says they might challenge Jane to a game, revealing that they've spied Jane across the bar. Jane drunkenly totters over when Asher calls her over, much to Nicolette's chagrin. But Nic turns from annoyed to amused when Jane shows her and Asher that a lovely Irish woman, who is also a dog walker, gave Jane her business card.
ASHER: Do you have a dog?
JANE/NIC: No.
JANE: And I told her that, but she insisted that I take it just to keep in touch. Everyone is so friendly here, and we had the most interesting chat about bouldering.
Nicolette and Asher smile in bemusement when Jane notices the Irish woman has yet another drink for her back at the bar.
JANE: (laughing) Very keen for me to 'wet my whistle' she says! (Getting up to stumble back to the bar) I'll be back!
ASHER: Does she have any idea she's being hit on?
NICOLETTE: (smirking) Not a clue.
Lassiters Complex
Levi strolls towards the police station with Harlow. He says their IT guy is going to look at the app and then let them know what to do next. Harlow notices Paul outside the hotel and hands Levi her phone, saying she'll catch up with him shortly. Harlow asks Paul if he got her voicemail, which Paul did, but he doesn't understand why she's worried as there's obviously nothing going on between him and Estelle. "But you're letting her think that to get to Terese," Harlow points out. "Granddad it's poor form." Paul can't quite defend himself, so changes the subject and asks what she was up to with Levi. Harlow explains the app situation and Paul thinks she should have passed the info onto John Wong so they could handle it.
HARLOW: Just like you're handling things with Terese?
PAUL: Whatever gets the job done.
HARLOW: No matter the cost? You know, there was a time when I actually thought that your way was best. I even enjoyed it. But I remember we had a conversation and you said if I kept going down that path I'd end up sad and lonely like you.
PAUL: That was a completely different situation.
HARLOW: Yeah it was. But I'm so grateful for that conversation because I changed. And it's still not too late for you to do the same.
PAUL: If I had a dollar for every time I heard that expression.
HARLOW: What? You'd own an entire chain of Lassiters hotels instead of just one?
PAUL: Yep!
HARLOW: I do love you, granddad. But I just find the way that you handle things exhausting. I have to handle Corey my own way.
PAUL: All right. Well, regardless of what you do, or how you do it, you're pretty formidable in your own right.
HARLOW: Well, I am a Robinson after all.
PAUL: With more of the good qualities, less of the bad though.
HARLOW: Thank you.
Lassiters Hotel
Estelle is lounging on the bed in her silky pyjamas, cucumber slices over her eyes, when there's a knock at the door. Terese has stopped by to see what damage has been done, not surprised to see that Estelle has already taken advantage of room service. Estelle snarks that she knows Terese expects her to wash dishes for minimum wage, but some people believe she deserves more.
TERESE: I promise you, Paul isn't the caring soul that you think he is. I'm not surprised that you went to him, but I have to admit that I'm extremely hurt.
ESTELLE: Well you're the one who kicked me out! So when Paul offered to take care of me, how could I refuse? Although I suppose I should thank you too: this hotel is partly yours.
TERESE: Just so you know, this isn't going to end the way you think it's going to end. He is doing this to get to me.
ESTELLE: You think it's always about you. It's never about me.
TERESE: (over it) You know what, have it your way. We'll see how it pans out shall we?
The Waterhole
Levi returns to Harlow and Freya with Andrew in tow. Andrew tells them their team is familiar with the app Harlow found, and that it tracks all incoming and outgoing written content on the phone. Texts, web browsing, video searches, the lot. Freya doesn't understand how Corey got the app on there in the first place, but Harlow sheepishly admits that he knew her passcode. Andrew says the best thing they can do right now is a full wipe of Harlow's phone. Harlow's on board, but she wants to back up her photos first.
Lassiters Complex
Glen makes a phone call to a medical reception centre, wanting to book an appointment with one of their GPs. "No, I haven't seen any of them before," he says, walking away in pain. Nearby, Terese emerges from the hotel and bumps into Paul, who smugly tells her to visit anytime, "I know your mum would love to see you." But Terese isn't in the mood for his mind games and says she knows exactly what he's trying to achieve and it won't work.
TERESE: I washed my hands - I don't even care anymore.
PAUL: What, you don't care that your own mother is putting moves on me?
TERESE: No because I know exactly who is pulling the strings and why. Look, I know you'll do anything to hurt and undermine me, and that's why you're accusing me of not being transparent about my finances, which is exactly what you're doing.
PAUL: Not true.
TERESE: Then why didn't you tell Toadie or myself about Sapiko & Bazz Holdings? Yeah, I am all across it. So I'm not going to let you, or your pathetic little schemes, get under my skin anymore. You can marry my mother for all I care!
Paul looks frustrated that he's losing the battle with Terese.
The next morning, Chloe waits out the front for her new assistant. It's not long before Sam arrives, ready for her first day. Chloe greets her and says she'll meet her inside soon so they can start her induction. Freya and Kiri stroll past and see Sam head inside, asking Chloe if Paul actually got back to her about hiring an assistant. "No, he did not, so I just went ahead and did it anyway," Chloe grins. She then apologises to Kiri for sneaking out earlier, but Kiri understands she had work. When Chloe leaves, Freya brings up the awkwardness between them to Kiri.
FREYA: What's going on?
KIRI: Nothing. Literally nothing.
FREYA: So you guys didn't-
KIRI: No we fell asleep! We had too much wine.
FREYA: I'm sorry, man.
KIRI: You and Levi were friends before you started dating. Was the transition weird? Like, physically?
FREYA: I get it, it's hard when you know someone in a certain way. But it was worth it.
KIRI: Okay, I get it, we're the only ones with this problem.
Number 26
Harlow chats with Andrew and Levi, saying that she wants to use the spyware to try and lure out Corey. She's not sure if he's still monitoring her or not, but if he is they can find a way to send fake messages to Freya so he'll read them. She figures if they're phrased a certain way he'll want to get in contact with her, then they can track down his location.
LEVI: What would you even say?
HARLOW: Well we'd have to say something that'd make it sound like I don't still fully hate him. Like I'm trying to understand him and the Order. He might even try and recruit me again.
ANDREW: This is a long shot, Harlow. I suggest just leaving the search to the police.
HARLOW: This might be the only chance we get to find him.
ANDREW: Let me think about it.
HARLOW: Look, I'd really appreciate your backup, but I am going to do this whether you like it or not.
The Waterhole
Jane tells Nicolette that her new pal Stacey wants to meet for coffee to talk more about worm farming. "She's very passionate about it!" Jane states, but Nicolette has some news for her mother.
NICOLETTE: You do realise it's not worms that Stacey's passionate about, right mum? It's you! Think about it, hot stuff. The compliments, the cocktails, the blindingly obvious sexual innuendo?
JANE: She thinks I'm queer.
NICOLETTE: You're going to have to come out.
JANE: (sighing) Not in a text message - how rude.
Jane leaves and Nicolette collects her cartons of milk for the Café from the counter. But when she sees Chloe and Kiri walk in she can't help but observe them. Chloe tells Kiri that she's been giving them some thought and has decided they should put things on hold for a while.
CHLOE: Hendrix needs me right now with the operation and everything.
KIRI: Yeah, totally, that's where your energy needs to go.
CHLOE: It's a shame because I feel like things between us were just starting to-
KIRI: Yeah, things were.
They pause and smile at one another before Chloe goes back to work. When Kiri notices Nicolette, Nic gives her a wave, which Kiri halfheartedly returns.
Lassiters Hotel Foyer
Paul scrambles to hide the paperwork he's looking at when Estelle creeps up on him. She asks if he wants to hang out with her today, but Paul's reached his usefulness with her and gives her the brush off. He tells her he doesn't really have time for her today - or any other day for that matter.
PAUL: I'm flying out to New York tonight so I think the best thing you can do is to check out and just move on.
ESTELLE: What? I don't understand. Was Terese right? Were you just using me, is that all this was?
Paul is saved from answering when his phone rings. He takes the call and walks off, leaving his manila folder on the front desk. Of course Estelle decides to snoop, finding the Sapiko & Bazz files. But she's caught out when Paul suddenly returns and asks what the hell she's doing.
Harold's Café
Asher calls in to see Nicolette and wonders if she wants to catch up for lunch or dinner. But when Nicolette starts making excuses, claiming she might be busy, Asher flat out asks if Nicolette wants this or not.
NICOLETTE: Asher I think you're so great - I'm sorry, I'm not there.
ASHER: In that case I'm sorry too.
Number 22
Terese asks how Glen's back is feeling today. Glen says it's still a bit stiff so he made an appointment to chat with a GP about it. "Oh, that's a good idea - the usual one?" Terese asks, to which Glen says yes. As he heads out, he crosses paths with Estelle, who has returned with her tail between her legs. She admits to Terese that she's been thrown out of the hotel. Estelle thought Paul cared, but when she tried to steal the Sapiko & Bazz folder for Terese, he caught her.
ESTELLE: When he saw I was putting you ahead of him he couldn't bear it. He cut me off entirely.
TERESE: I told you this would happen!
ESTELLE: And you're right, you're always right. Fixing things between us is the only thing that matters to me now. I'll get a job, I'll help in the house. Can we try again? I'll stay with you long term. Can you forgive me please?
