Ramsay Street
Aaron finds Freya ignoring her phone ringing. She admits she's avoiding talking to her brother, Zane, because she doesn't want to tell him about the charges against her. Freya's also stressed out about having no savings or income, so Aaron offers her a temporary receptionist job at The Shed. Freya's touched by his generosity and accepts, giving him a hug. Aaron asks if she can start today, so Freya rushes off to get ready. As she leaves, Clive hesitantly approaches Aaron and asks how David is going.
AARON: Honestly he's not doing great.
CLIVE: I'm sorry to hear that. It's a tough situation for everyone.
AARON: Do you think, if you've got time, you could swing by later? I just know how much he's missing work, and I know how much he respects you, so it could go a long way.
CLIVE: Uh, yeah, after lunch would that work?
AARON: Yeah! That'd be great.
Number 32
Aaron finds David still slumped on the couch and says he might want to get showered and dressed. David's interest is only piqued when Aaron mentions that Clive will be visiting him later.
AARON: David he obviously still cares, otherwise he wouldn't be checking in.
DAVID: Yeah I guess you could be right.
AARON: You need to go have a shower. I've got to get to work.
DAVID: What time is he coming?
AARON: I don't know, he just said he'd pop in after lunch. How about I text you later?
Grateful for Aaron's continued support, David wraps his arms around his husband's waist and tells him to have a good day. "You too," Aaron replies, kissing David's forehead.
Harold's Café
Jane wonders if Nicolette is blowing this whole Glen thing out of proportion, but Nic says she saw him speak to John Wong and then lie about it. Jane points out that Glen might not have wanted Nicolette to know his business. When Jane brings up Kiri, Nicolette insists that she's not doing this for her sake, it's to get justice. "Nicolette, there is enough going on right now without you stirring up trouble," Jane replies. "Please just leave it be." Nicolette, however, doesn't appear as though she'll be taking her mum's advice.
The Shed
Aaron finishes showing Freya around the gym and asks if she'll be happy working there. Freya's just glad to be feeling useful again. Things turn awkward when their next patron happens to be Levi, who isn't thrilled to see Freya behind the reception desk. Aaron wonders if they could use Levi as a guinea pig while he shows Freya the check-in system, but Levi just swipes his own member card and skulks off to work out. Freya promises Aaron she'll stay out of Levi's way and won't bring down the vibe. Aaron goes over to check on Levi and tries to strike up a conversation.
AARON: When do the Rodwells take over casa Canning?
LEVI: About two weeks.
AARON: Two weeks! Where are you going to go?
LEVI: I'll find a place.
Levi ends the conversation by putting in his earphones and starting his workout.
Lassiters Hotel Office
Glen is pacing while he fills Terese in on the latest Kiri/Barbara debacle. He also tells her about his run-in with John Wong, which makes Terese wince. "I shudder whenever I hear that man's name," she bemoans. Glen says that John pointed out how risky it is for him to hang out with Kiri, which he can't argue against.
GLEN: But it's not just about us. I've also put Barbara's marriage at risk.
TERESE: Come on, you don't know that for sure. Listen, you realise this situation isn't sustainable? Running into Barbara at some point is inevitable. I think you should get on the front foot.
GLEN: What, and tell Kiri the truth?
TERESE: No, find Barbara and tell her what happened. Tell her you didn't plan on getting so involved with Kiri.
GLEN: No I only wanted to see her. If I'd known it could snowball like this-
TERESE: Well tell her that. Tell her what was driving you, I'm sure she'll understand. It's either that or risk getting caught.
Lassiters Complex
Paul accidentally bumps into Jane and makes her drop a toy from her shopping bag. He picks up the plushie platypus and asks if it's a present for Isla. Remaining neutral, Jane says she often goes to a local toy shop on her lunch break and buys something. Paul walks alongside Jane, glad to keep the conversation going. He smiles and says he's already got half his Christmas shopping done for the grandkids and suggests he and Jane meet up soon to compare notes. Jane smiles in return, before catching herself and realising she still doesn't want to be this friendly with him yet. She tells Paul she's late for a lunch date with Clive and heads off.
Nicolette emerges from the Café and, for once, is happy to see Paul. She asks him where his relationship is with Glen at the moment, which confuses Paul on many levels.
PAUL: As if I'd tell you.
NICOLETTE: I think he's dodgy.
PAUL: Compared to you he's angelic.
NICOLETTE: Well compared to you he's probably the second-worst Robinson and I'm just trying to figure out if it's a close contest.
PAUL: You really know how to ingratiate yourself don't you.
NICOLETTE: You know he was talking to John Wong?
PAUL: I think you're mistaking me for somebody who gives a toss about the sludge that falls out of your mouth. My brother is a decent human being, unlike you.
He turns around to go but stops in his tracks at Nicolette's next barb.
NICOLETTE: Yeah well at least I'm not angling to try and hook up with your wife. (She walks up behind Paul and leans in close to taunt him) He's in love with Terese. Why don't you ask him?
PAUL: (looks pained but doesn't let Nic see) Like I said, no interest.
Number 24
Glen tells Kiri he was thinking today would be a good day to meet her mum. But Kiri says Barbara has left already. Glen's in for an even greater surprise when Kiri gets a text from her mum, letting her know that she's booked the cruise she was talking about. Glen can barely contain his joyful relief at dodging a bullet when Kiri says her parents will be gone for at least six months.
The Shed
Aaron is frustrated when he checks his phone to discover that a heap of clients have cancelled their classes that afternoon. Freya wonders if that's normal, discovering that it indeed is not. Levi finishes up his session and tells Aaron in private that a client posted comments about Freya on The Shed's social media page. "The guy's a paramedic," Levi explains. "I know him from work, he probably knows Freya through the hospital." Aaron can't believe how many comments the post generated - the news articles about the case have even been linked. He wonders what he's supposed to do now as he doesn't want to fire Freya over some random comments. When Aaron goes to answer the phone, Levi approaches Freya and tells her that she's killing Aaron's business.
The Waterhole Exterior
Jane sits with Clive in the beer garden, regaling him about her run-in with Paul. For a while there it almost felt like old times, but then she realised that she's still unsure if she can trust him again. Jane then asks Clive how his day is going, looking uneasy when he mentions visiting David later.
JANE: Are you allowed to do that?
CLIVE: I don't think I'm breaking any rules.
JANE: Is it a conflict of interest?
CLIVE: Well, David and I do have a friendship outside the workplace.
JANE: You're COO of the hospital, you need to tread carefully.
CLIVE: I'd only be going to see how he's feeling and if there's anything I can do to help.
JANE: You know that I do love David, but you need to watch out for yourself. Your heart is in the right place but David has other people to look out for him. I really think you should leave it be.
Number 24
Freya arrives home and gets startled when she finds Zane in the lounge room. He explains Chloe let him in and that he's relieved to finally speak with his sister. Zane was worried the money wasn't enough and the guys were still chasing after her. He also talked their mum and dad around and they want to see her. Feeling guilty, Freya blurts out that she needs to tell Zane something.
FREYA: I lied. And when I explain everything to you, and then you tell mum and dad, you're all going to hate me as well. So just get ready for that.
ZANE: Freya, firstly we're never going to hate you. And secondly, who else does?
FREYA: There's a lot that I haven't told you.
Number 32
Aaron is pleased to see that David has showered, cleaned the house and baked ANZAC biscuits while he's been gone. His smile fades, though, when David wonders what time Clive was coming over because Aaron never texted him.
DAVID: (realising) He's not coming. Did he want to reschedule?
AARON: We might just have to wait a bit.
DAVID: What for?
AARON: Just for things to cool down.
DAVID: (despondent) What did he actually say?
AARON: I think he's just concerned that the way things are now with the legal stuff, that it could be a conflict of interest.
DAVID: (trying to remain stoic) Yeah, that makes sense.
He quickly leaves the kitchen, his disappointment palpable.
The Waterhole
Kiri and Glen finish up their lunch. Kiri was planning on carpooling with Glen back to the winery, but when she sees Terese walk in she urges Glen to stay and "make the most of this good timing". She scurries away with a grin as Terese approaches Glen, wondering what's going on.
GLEN: That was me being given a gentle shove in your general direction.
TERESE: Uh?
GLEN: Sorry, it's a side effect from my lie.
TERESE: (smiling) Oh, right.
GLEN: Hopefully it peters out and she can go back to just teasing me about my taste in music.
Terese can tell he's in a better mood than earlier and Glen lets her know about Barbara's upcoming cruise. He's grateful he doesn't have to have a difficult conversation with Barbara, but also grateful to Terese for letting him vent. Glen gives Terese a big hug just as Paul walks in, shaken and angry to see them looking so cosy.
Number 24
After hearing the whole story from Freya, Zane says she's in too deep and needs to come home. Freya isn't too sure their parents will welcome her back with open arms when they know the truth - she can feel the disappointment from them already. But Zane says he doesn't like seeing Freya like this, she's not her normal self and he's worried about her.
ZANE: Come back to Echuca.
FREYA: My case is ongoing. I have to be around for legal stuff. Sentencing. I'm also considering changing my statement to take the blame for David.
ZANE: What?! Why would you do that?
FREYA: Because he would never have been there if it wasn't for me. And he's got a family. He's got a baby and a husband and I have to be there for him.
ZANE: But who's looking out for you? Come home.
The Waterhole
Paul has been waiting around to have a private word with Glen. It starts off innocently enough with Paul asking him about the gin launch, but then takes a turn when Paul comments on Glen going house hunting when it's over.
PAUL: I thought that this stay with Terese was only temporary? I'm assuming nothing's changed. You are still keeping to our deal aren't you?
GLEN: Of course I am.
PAUL: Well in that case nothing should be stopping you from moving on. But you're not going to, are you, because you're in love with Terese. And don't try and deny it.
GLEN: Where'd you hear that?
PAUL: Not important. Is it true?
GLEN: It's complicated.
PAUL: Not by my definition. We had a deal, Glen. It was either Terese or me.
GLEN: I'm keeping my word, Paul. I can guarantee you that.
PAUL: All right. Good to know.
Number 24
Kiri invites Aaron inside, who is there to check in with Freya after what happened at work. Freya says that being a "business killer" doesn't feel great; she knows people don't want her around, and she doesn't want to bring Aaron anymore trouble. But Aaron says he's fine and that he'll just put out a social media post letting everyone know Freya's only there for a short stint.
FREYA: There's actually no point. I've decided to leave town.
AARON: You what? When?
FREYA: My brother kind of gave me the idea of going back to Echuca, be with my family.
AARON: No, Freya - you, David and I, we're meant to be in this together.
FREYA: I'm not walking away. I'll be back for the sentencing hearing.
AARON: (annoyed) Great, okay, well I guess I'll see you then. I hope running away works out for you.
He sees himself out, leaving Freya baffled. She seeks out Kiri for advice.
FREYA: Do you think going home is running away? (Off Kiri's look) You think I should stay, don't you.
KIRI: Nothing beats family support but you've got a lot of friends here too. I think just trust your gut.
Number 32
Much to Aaron's relief, Freya tells him her plan to head back to Echuca was just a "wobble" and she's going to stay in Erinsborough. But then Aaron's in for another hurdle when David informs him that he's decided to resign from work. Aaron exasperatedly says that David can't resign, but David figures it'll save him the humiliation of Clive firing him down the road.
FREYA: I know what you're doing. It's like you're assuming the worst and then you're trying to hurry it along to get there faster. It'll pass.
DAVID: This won't. I give up.
AARON: (angry) No, David you do not get to give up. If you're not going to fight for yourself then fight for us.
DAVID: I don't think I can.
AARON: A terrible thing has happened, and it's hard, I get that. You made mistakes but you can do hard things. We need you to.
Harold's Café
Paul approaches Nicolette and says she might be right about Glen, "I think he might be hiding something". And they both want to know what it is.
PAUL: I think the best way to find out is if we work together.
NICOLETTE: You're not seriously suggesting we team up are you?
PAUL: (shrugging nonchalantly)
NICOLETTE: I can't believe I'm about to say this, but you've got a deal.
PAUL: Good.
She holds her hand out for him to shake, which he reciprocates.
