Community Centre
Glen and Terese sit and have a coffee after the meeting. Terese now understands why it was so important for Glen to help her at the beach. Glen acknowledges that people don't really understand addiction unless they've been through it themselves. Terese says she's "hugely grateful" for his assistance that day.
TERESE: I don't know why you didn't tell me.
GLEN: You had so much going on I didn't want to dump any more on you. I was actually going to tell you over that coffee. I didn't expect to see you here today.
TERESE: Are you struggling? Is that why you're here?
GLEN: Oh, no, no, I always try find the closest AA just to keep myself in check.
Terese is now worried about Glen taking on the job with Leo, reminding him there'll be a lot of temptation. But Glen assures her he wouldn't have accepted if there were going to be any issues.
GLEN: I haven't had a drink for years.
TERESE: I know but you're facing some pretty big demons, and spending time with Paul, it'll be triggering.
GLEN: Nah, I'll be fine. I know my limits.
TERESE: Well you can call on me whenever you need anything.
Glen thanks her and says he will. Terese notes that it was such a strange way for her to find out, but she's glad she knows the truth - as is Glen.
Harold's Café
Kyle is talking to Chloe about his cancer and how concerned he is about what comes next. Chloe says whenever she's feeling down about her Huntington's, she likes to re-live her best travel stories. Like the time she was a barmaid at Oktoberfest and her co-worker said she could have all his tips if she ate a pork knuckle in two minutes. "Worst heartburn but I was rolling in Euros," she grins. Kyle thanks her for the laugh, and Chloe acknowledges that Roxy and Sheila will be "jostling" to take care of him, but she's the queen of distraction if he ever needs it.
Kyle heads back to his hotel room and Chloe bumps into Jane at the counter. They talk about Isla's naming day being cancelled, and Chloe lets Jane know she heard about the Teddy Cam debacle. Jane feels terrible that everyone is missing out on celebrations because of her stupid decision, but Chloe thinks she might be able to change Aaron, David and Nicolette's minds.
Number 32
Chloe comments on a cute outfit of Isla's and finds out Nic's dad bought it for Isla's naming day. The parenthood trio all say they're not in the mood for celebrating right now, but Chloe reminds them they weren't into the photo shoot at first either and then they ended up loving it. Nic says they've already cancelled everything, so Chloe gently suggests they could un-cancel. She knows Jane's stunt put a dampener on it all but Aaron, David and Nicolette were really looking forward to celebrating Isla. Nicolette admits there's no harm in thinking about it, as Aaron and David swap a look with one another.
The Waterhole
Leo catches up with Terese and tells her that work is going well, aside from the Police Ball that is, which is proving to be challenging. "It wasn't a walk in the park when Lassiters hosted it either," Terese commiserates. She offers to email him notes from their time hosting, which Leo is grateful for. Talk turns to Glen joining the vineyard team, and Leo says he's got a good feeling about it. Paul sees them chatting and sidles up to join the conversation. Terese looks concerned when Paul tells Leo to invite Glen along for a winery tour tomorrow, which he'll also attend. Leo has also been thinking about expanding Glen's role, including tasting the final products of the wine they make. This causes further alarm for Terese.
Lassiters Hotel Foyer
Chloe relays to Jane that the #32 crew are going to think about reinstating Isla's naming day, but they weren't overly keen given they've already cancelled everything. Jane then suggests she'll organise everything without the trio knowing so it's a nice surprise for them - she'll keep away from the party too for everyone's sake. This way they'll still be able to have a stress-free party and she can show them just how sorry she is. "I just need you to help," Jane adds, leaving Chloe slightly bewildered.
The Waterhole
Terese tells Kyle she's sorry to hear what he's going through and offers company or advice if he needs it. Kyle thanks her, saying it means a lot, before heading off. Glen finds Terese after getting a text message from her. Terese says she's even more worried about his new role at the vineyard because Leo wants him to potentially do wine tastings. Glen reassures her that he'll just avoid it - he's been around booze before, even during his recovery. Terese suggests he let Leo in on the truth, saying he'll be understanding, but Glen says Leo's not the issue, it's Paul. "I don't want him finding out, he'll use it against me," he adds.
TERESE: Glen, Paul's been bending over backwards to help you.
GLEN: And what if he changes his tune? He'll see my addiction as some kind of weakness and exploit it. Please, this is non-negotiable. I'll find a way around it, I'll be fine.
Terese doesn't look entirely convinced.
The Vineyard Exterior/Interior
The next morning, Leo shows Glen around the vineyard exterior then leads him inside where Paul's waiting. Glen says the place looks great and Paul compliments Leo on his business mind. Glen asks what the plans for the distillery are, but Leo says the paperwork's buried under the weight of hosting the police ball right now. Leo then says he's got Glen down for bar service at the ball, which alarms Glen. He says he thought his role was more logistical, which Leo agrees is the plan long-term, but for now he'd like to make use of Glen's barman experience.
Number 32 Backyard
Chloe stops by to see what everyone's thoughts are on the naming day barbecue, but it's not a positive response. Aaron and co would like to celebrate Isla, just not with something thrown together at the last minute. Chloe thought they'd say something like that, so she's giving them all a complimentary brunch at the Terrace. The trio are keen so they decide to head out to brunch right now. Once they go inside, Chloe rushes around the side of the house to secretly usher Jane in so she can start decorating the back patio.
The Vineyard Interior
Leo offers Glen and Paul samples of wine paired with local cheeses. Glen goes for a piece of cheese, but Leo passes him a glass and says he should try the wine as well. Glen gives it a sniff then says he probably shouldn't drink on the job, but Leo says it's fine as he likes the staff to be across all the products. Terese walks in and tries to cover up her startled look at seeing Glen holding a wine glass. Glen looks guilty but Paul is pleasantly surprised to see Terese there. Terese claims she's just there to lend a hand after chatting to Leo about the police ball yesterday. Leo's happy to have her on board, as is Paul.
LEO: So Glen, what do you think of the wine?
GLEN: Oh I'm not much of a drinker, hits me in all the wrong places. Flares up the old back injury.
LEO: Right, I'm sorry about that I shouldn't have assumed.
Glen just shrugs then spares a quick look Terese's way to gauge her response.
The Terrace
Chloe guides Aaron, David, Nicolette and Isla to their table and says they can order whatever they like. Chloe is surprised but pleased when Nicolette thanks her. When Chloe walks away to text Jane a 'they've arrived' message, though, Isla starts to wail. The parenting trio are concerned she's not feeling well and decide to take a rain check on their brunch plans. They say they'll just grab takeaway coffees instead and take Isla home for a nap.
Lassiters Hotel - Kyle's Room
Kyle's on the phone to someone, letting them know Dr Alavi passed on the number if he needed to talk to a counsellor. He sets up an appointment, and when he hangs up he looks inside the honesty box on the bed. In it is a post-it note with 'I'm afraid I'm not the man you need anymore' written on it.
The Vineyard Interior
While they're alone, Terese admits to Glen that she decided to drive over because she was worried about him, "and rightly so it seems". Glen says he was a bit put off when Leo brought out the wine, but his good old excuse seemed to do the trick. "Helps that it's true," he adds. Terese knows this kind of situation will eventually happen again and wonders if he'll still be able to avoid temptation.
GLEN: My addiction has cost me far too much to ever risk my sobriety. And I'm not going to give Paul a chance to ruin my life again. My issues with alcohol and drugs started after the accident.
TERESE: You know, I never asked your side of the story. You don't have to go into it if it's too painful.
GLEN: No, no, I want to. You know after my accident I was misdiagnosed with paraplegia.
TERESE: (nodding) Paul did everything to stop you claiming compensation.
GLEN: The whole family sided with him. They turned their backs on me when I needed them most.
TERESE: I'm sorry to hear that.
GLEN: When I finally got the correct diagnosis and went into rehab to learn to walk again it was agony.
TERESE: So you self-medicated.
GLEN: And spiralled from there. I was in constant pain and so angry.
TERESE: Well I'm glad you had Karen and your step-daughter.
GLEN: Imagine the kind of father and husband I was through that time. She stuck by me through it all - I got clean because of her. But after that it was just never the same. Eventually she walked.
TERESE: And you blame Paul for that too.
GLEN: Look, I don't blame Paul for my accident or anything else that's gone wrong in my life. But it's the way I was treated because of him. It stuck with me.
TERESE: Even after all this time?
GLEN: Being on my own again, it hit me. The anger never went away, it just got stronger. And if you're not careful the same will happen to you.
TERESE: We're not talking about me.
GLEN: No, we're talking about addiction and Achilles' heels, and I reckon Paul is both of ours.
Glen says he's determined not to let Paul throw him off his path again, and he hopes that's the same outcome for Terese. He knows it was upsetting for Terese to lose her wedding ring, but he wonders if it's such a bad thing in the long run if it's gone. "Maybe," Terese says, looking down to where her wedding ring should be, then says they should go and find the other two.
Number 32 Backyard
Jane is caught in the act of decorating when Nicolette and boys arrive home with Isla too early. Nicolette demands to know what her mum's doing, but Jane says it was meant to be a nice surprise. Aaron and David remind Jane they didn't want to go ahead with the naming day, and Nicolette gets frustrated with Jane barreling ahead and ignoring their wishes. She wonders if Jane thought this was meant to make things "magically okay" after what she did.
JANE: I suppose I had hoped-
NICOLETTE: (yelling) Well you hoped wrong, mum! I want all of this gone, and I want it gone now.
The Vineyard Interior
Paul and Leo are glad they got a message earlier letting them know the naming day was back on. Glen's worried he shouldn't be tagging along with them, but Paul reminds him he's family. Plans are halted, though, when Paul gets another text saying the party's off again. Leo wonders why, and Paul says he wishes they'd texted earlier before Terese drove home to get ready. Leo says it was nice of her to swing by when she didn't have to, and Paul can't help but ask if they think Terese came all the way out to the vineyard for a different reason. Glen hides a small smirk to himself.
LEO: You mean you?
PAUL: Yeah.
LEO: I was just thinking the same thing. I mean, it's not a short trip to get out here and she could have just told me that info on the phone.
PAUL: Exactly! See, I knew it. That's what I'd hoped for. She says that she's moved on but in actual fact she does want to be with me just as much as I want to be with her. Which is understandable, we built something really special together.
GLEN: You're not jumping the gun a bit are ya?
PAUL: No of course not. I know Terese - she wants her old life back and that includes me.
Terese's Car
As Terese drives home she has another glance at her bare ring finger.
The Vineyard Exterior
Paul says to Glen and Leo that if things keep progressing the way they are, then a ring will be back on Terese's finger sooner rather than later.
Terese's Car
Terese finishes up a phone call with someone from the Queensland hotel she stayed at. They tell her that the place has been checked all over but a ring hasn't turned up or been handed in.
Ramsay Street
The boys and Nicolette wheel Isla up the #32 driveway. David thinks they should go to Harold's for a coffee while Isla's still sleeping. Although he does feel bad leaving Jane to pack away the party decorations all by herself. "No, her mess, let her sort it," Nicolette retorts. Aaron says he knows Jane crossed the line again but he thinks she meant well this time. Nicolette's not having a bar of it.
NICOLETTE: I know exactly what she's doing. She's backing us into a corner so that we have no option but to accept her apology, and it is not happening.
Number 32 Backyard
Chloe helps Jane pack away some of the decorations, deflated that their plan backfired. Chloe apologises to Jane, saying she was as much a part of it as Jane was, but Jane says Chloe tried to get her to hold off and she wouldn't listen. "I just have to give them space and hope that things between Nicolette and I get better," Jane adds. Before Chloe leaves she asks if Jane needs any help with the ladder, but Jane says she'll be fine. When Jane's alone she spies a lone streamer still stuck to the top railing of the back porch. She gets up on the ladder to retrieve it, but the ladder wobbles and she comes crashing to the ground bumping her head in the process. Jane is sprawled unconscious with no one around to help.
