Lassiters Complex
Sheila vehemently denies being the one to tell Evelyn, especially given she wouldn't throw her grandson "under the bus!" Levi isn't believing her and the pair end up having a right public argument until Kyle stops in and reminds them where they are.
Number 30
Just as Amy thinks she has the house to herself (to be with Ned) in walks Toadie and the K's via the backdoor. Cue awkwardness before Amy (and Ned) quickly retreat out of the house!
KARL: Mmm, love is in the air!
Toadie isn't amused at Amy bringing Ned home though (he told her not to) before the trio chat about a safer subject - Melanie. We hear she's not been in contact with Toadie, and he's deduced she's not forgiven him, which he readily accepts. Karl asks how things are with Rose and he admits to still caring for her... but he also wants to resolve things with Melanie.
Road outside the Community Centre
A frustrated Ned and Amy are trying to work out where they can go for some 'alone time' that is comfortable and private! With Levi occupied with his mum, Ned suggests going on a trip especially since it would allow Amy to de-stress ahead of the film festival.
Kyle runs into the pair and when they mention their planned trip, he begs them to swap things around so that it is Levi who is going away and explains why (his mum knows).
NED: Rain check on the trip?
Even though she does want to get away with Ned, she realises that Levi needs her too.
Number 30
Toadie looks happy to see Rose at his doorstep and with the K's still inside, he plans to text so they can arrange to meet up. Rose ignores him and walks into the house to chat to Karl - after chatting to him about his music (its proving to be very popular apparently!) she wants to run a health initiative during the film festival by opening up a pop-up booth for testicular cancer. Karl is all for her suggestion and is fully behind it.
Harold's café
Melanie looks relived to hear that Toadie is safely at home and won't be joining Susan in the café. Before she leaves, she is surprised to hear Susan say she is sorry about the woes she is having with Toadie. Melanie thought Susan would be happy to have her out of Toadie's life, but Susan admits to changing her mind given the depth of connection the pair have.
SUSAN: He really is upset Mel.
MELANIE: So he should be.
Susan adds that Toadie wants to make things right, but just needs to hear from her first.
MELANIE: He can keep waiting.
The Waterhole
It looks like we now know who it was that told Evelyn about the trio - Karl!
KARL: I'm sensing I may have put my foot in it.
Understatement of the year Karl and as soon as he's said that he literally scarpers from the bar to let Levi and his mum talk!
Evelyn confirms to Levi that yes, it was Karl as he thought she already knew what her son was up to. Given he let rip at Sheila, Levi is miffed she didn't say anything to him.
EVELYN: Who told me isn't the issue here, the fact is you're in a relationship that can only end in heartache and apparently my opinion means nothing to you whatsoever.
(Later)
Amy has decided to chat to Evelyn and Ned wishes her "good luck" before she walks over to her table.
"Who's bright idea was this?" Sheila comments to Ned as the pair stand watching Amy make her way over. "Not mine," he is quick to reply back with. Sheila is already predicting "it won't end well!"
SHEILA: Can't watch... but can't look away!
When she reaches Evelyn's table, Amy explains why she is there - she want them to have "a proper chat" and "talk this out." Evelyn is clear from the off, she "won't get her head around it" and isn't mincing her words either - while Levi lying to her is "one thing but the idea of him being with you and a third person..." Amy interrupts before she can finish the sentence to correct her interpretation that they are in "a three way situation."
EVELYN: Please, spare me the details!
Amy admits that like her, she "really cares" about Levi and thinks that they should try to make things easier for him.
Harold's café
After Susan tells Karl it was sad seeing Melanie be miserable, he is somewhat confused as he thought they were both in agreement that she wasn't right for Toadie. "We were," she agrees but is now having second thoughts about judging them "too quickly." Karl looks aghast at hearing Susan had admitted to Melanie they got things wrong.
Talk changes to Rose after Karl gets confirmation the hospital are happy to run the pop-up booth she suggested. Susan is still finding it a weird suggestion, even if it is for a good cause. Karl is happy to run with it and doesn't share her cynical feelings either that it's a ruse by Rose.
Lassiters Brasserie
Karl meets up with Rose to confirm that the hospital are on board with the pop-up booth and plan on providing the staff for it too. He is so keen on helping the cause that he volunteers to take care of the organisation for her.
With the festival chat out of the way, Rose turns to the personal chat... how is Toadie. Without being too blunt, Karl tells her that she did put Toadie "in a bit of a pickle" although it would appear that she thought he would have ended things with Melanie give what happened. "Not at this stage," Karl confirms to her and seconds later when she gets a text from Toadie asking to meet, thinks it is "a good sign."
The Waterhole
Amy is trying to convince Evelyn that her feelings for Levi aren't "any less" just because she is also seeing Ned.
EVELYN: That doesn't make sense. A romantic relationship can't be shared. All I see is a hundred ways for Levi to get hurt.
"You're not the only one that feels like that," Amy admits (Sheila does too) but goes onto say that she protects Levi's feelings "fiercely" and thus it "stings" when "people don't see that."
AMY: I would never, ever, ever want to hurt him.
Evelyn doesn't think Amy would do it "on purpose," but thinks her son deserves "so much more" including a relationship he doesn't "need to hide." Amy admits the judgement has been "pretty hard on all of us" and twists things so that Evelyn should be more sympathetic, given what she went through with Levi's dad.
EVELYN: That's why I want better for Levi.
Amy tries a different track - trying to show that Levi is actually happy with what is going on, and that they all went into things "with eyes wide open." She admits its "unconventional" but "it really works for us" thus "we shouldn't have to live in shame."
AMY: No-one should.
EVELYN: I just wasn't expecting this.
AMY: I know and I'm sorry that we kept it from you.
EVELYN: You can really get past the judgment?
AMY: From most people, yes.
Just at that, Evelyn spots her son enter the bar and much to his astonishment, invites Levi to join their conversation.
Lassiters Park
Rose meets up with Toadie, and readily accepts his apology for "messing her around." Talk naturally gets round to Melanie and Toadie admits he feels a "loyalty" to her and that its wrong he's also hurt her. She gets where he is coming from, citing similar issues with her husband, which is why it took longer to make the break, even if "it was the right thing."
Eventually she realises that Toadie isn't one for acting swiftly so suggests they get a cuppa and chat about something else instead. As they head towards The Pavilion, through the fencing they can see Melanie sitting chatting with her ex, Justin Buke!
The Waterhole
Both Sheila and Ned are shocked at the sight of Levi sitting at the same table with both Amy and his mum!
SHEILA: I'm as shocked as you are. I thought there would have been fireworks by now!
After Evelyn admits that while she isn't sold on their relationship, she can see that they are, Sheila can't stand the suspense no more and heads over to the table.
SHEILA: Isn't this all nice and polite.
AMY: Yes, we're just having an open and honest conversation.
EVELYN: Yes, I appreciate the directness.
Unfortunately, things then go downhill after Levi apologises to Sheila for thinking she was the one that blabbed (when it was actually Karl). Evelyn has a go at Sheila for keeping things from her (even if it was under orders by Levi) and thinks the offer from Sheila to stay longer wasn't genuine, it was instead just make things difficult for Amy and Levi!
SHEILA: That was just a by-product.
EVELYN: So I wasn't your pawn?
LEVI: Gran, is that what you tried to do?!
SHEILA: Of course not, don't be ridiculous
Levi can see right through her from the look he gives!!!
Lassiters Park/The Pavilion
As they still watch on unseen, Toadie is rather confused (and sad) as to why the pair are talking, especially given Justin has a restraining order out on Melanie. It doesn't help that Rose seems to be inflaming the situation too by suggesting they're meeting to discuss "unfinished business" and, despite what has been said to Toadie, the pair still have a "relationship" and "here they are, meeting up."
The Waterhole
Sheila sincerely apologises to Levi, citing that it was her "protectiveness" which made her behave as she did. Evelyn can't but help ask if it also came "with a dash of self-serving?!" Levi steps in to stop the bickering and tries to broker a 'peace deal' instead.
LEVI: If I can forgive and forget with Gran, I'm sure you can do the same thing?
EVELYN: ...
LEVI: You would have some something crazy protective if you didn't have that chat with Amy today. Okay, come on, you were pretty upset.
SHEILA: We both get a little bit over the top when it comes to being worried about Levi and its not the worst crime in the world isn't it?
"No," Evelyn says and the trio all have smiles on their faces now.
Number 26
Amy has brought a huge supply of food with her to #26 to cook up a feast, she cites "I like cooking," while Kyle thinks it's more "wowing mums."
AMY: I don't think anything is going to wow Evelyn, she's one tough nut to crack let me tell you!
"I heard that," we suddenly hear Evelyn say and while Amy is quickly apologetic, Evelyn has taken what was said as "a compliment."
Evelyn then moves onto a safe topic of conversation with Amy - the film festival. Amy is in her element talking about the plans and offers Evelyn a comp ticket to opening night, which is when we hear that she plans to leave tomorrow! Levi is shocked at this sudden news and Evelyn reassures him that it's because "the rest of the family miss me."
EVELYN: And this trip has been such a rollercoaster. I think we could all use time to regroup.
Amy has conveniently gone to the garden for some herbs at this point, so misses her also adding that she "can come back." Levi is still unsure whether her leaving is linked to him lying to her and she doesn't exactly deny it but gets why he did what he did and that perhaps she is "quick to pass judgement."
LEVI: Mmm, maybe a bit!
EVELYN: Look, I don't understand your relationship and to be honest, I'm still uncomfortable with it, but I love you and trust you, so I'm going to let you make your own choices and hope for the best.
LEVI: Thanks mum.
Number 30
Given what Rose was trying to suggest to Toadie about Melanie and Justin, Toadie asks the K's if Melanie would really go there again, which is why she's ignoring his texts? His question is met by silence and the pair not looking at Toadie!
TOADIE: Oh come on, you never miss an opportunity to voice your opinion!
Karl still doesn't want to say anything, but eventually does so after Toadie begs. He thinks it's another sign of "Melanie's behaviour causing you grief." That earns him a 'scolding' from Susan but he cites that he was simply "being honest."
The Pavilion
Rose thanks Justin for doing his magic to get Melanie to meet up with him! However, in hindsight, their meeting did "clear the air" and thus things are better between them now.
ROSE: Well it worked out for everyone then.
JUSTIN: Now you're going to stick to your word? This means you're going to withdraw your complaint with the police about Anna vandalising your car.
ROSE: Yip, absolutely, that was the deal. This is all for a good cause you know, I just want to help out Toadie.
JUSTIN: Yes, I couldn't care less what this was for you. As long as Anna's free, the rest of its none of my business.
Number 30
Susan thinks the opposite of Karl - she doesn't think Melanie would be unfaithful. "How can you be so sure?" Toadie asks. Susan's explains her rationale is after talking to Melanie in Harold's, where she was "very, very upset" about the distance between them. Toadie interprets that is Melanie thinking it's over between them, which has pushed her "back towards Justin."
SUSAN: Toadie, don't assume the worst.
TOADIE: Well that's what makes more sense than anything else. Melanie is back with her toxic ex and it's all my fault.
