- Aaron telling his sister a few home truths.
- Karl urging David to take some leave.
- Aaron justifying his reasons to David over why he agrees with Karl.
- David agreeing to take some leave.
- Paul reassuring David that John will track Nicolette down.
- David planning on putting a note in Nicolette's medical records asking that he be notified if she gives birth
- Karl catching David before he can post the note.
- Karl telling David he won't report him but will if there is a next time.
- John showing Paul the photo he obtained of someone looking like Nicolette in Canberra.
- Paul confirming that it is Nicolette in the photo.
Paul is enjoying the solitude in the garden when Terese comes out telling him what a great job Harlow is doing about the Quill proposal. He admits that he's other things on his mind just now and tells her about the meeting with John and shows her the image on his phone. Immediately she recognises the other woman is Audrey and concludes that she must have lied to Toadie (saying she'd not heard from Nicolette). Paul doesn't want to tell the boys yet, in case it isn't Nicolette, but plans on flying to Canberra first thing to follow it up. Terese questions if he is the right person to go, but his mantra is not apportioning blame, simply convincing her to come home.
Number 22 (next day)
Leo is curious to know when he comes down for breakfast, who the early bird was that he heard moving around. Terese lies saying it was Paul who was up early for a business meeting before they start talking about the plan to buy into the Quill Group instead.
Their chat is curtailed when Aaron drops round wanting a word with Paul but has to make do with Terese instead (Leo tactfully heads elsewhere to drink his coffee). "David's a mess at the moment," he says to her, which she isn't too surprised to hear. Terese is though shocked when Aaron tells her about the "career ending stupid" thing David did (he doesn't go into detail) and thus is trying to make sure David "isn't alone with his thoughts" by having someone always around him. "That's not a bad idea," she replies and is forced to lie over where Paul is (Aaron wants him for the afternoon shift) but promises to get him to call Aaron when he returns.
After a quick sightseeing tour of the main sights of Canberra, we see Paul trying to track down exactly where it was John got the image of Audrey and Nicolette. Eventually he finds the right spot.
Aaron is desperately trying to get David off his phone on the way to meet up with Kyle (he's checking to see if Nicolette has updated her Facebook page - she hasn't). Kyle's plans are for the boys to go to the pub and play darts but David cites that he is "too tired" to do that, so the helpful Kyle suggests he goes talk to Sheila about her gnomes - that will send anyone to sleep! Plan B is going to the movies, which a reluctant David agrees to.
Paul enters his hotel room (which looks rather like a Lassiters one!) while giving Terese an update - the manger seems to think that the woman is Nicolette after seeing a photo of her from the baby shower, but unfortunately she isn't a regular. His next move is a meeting with Audrey and is hoping that he doesn't need to use the photo nor the emotional thumb screws (because she is a "soft touch") to get her to talk.
To hasten the urgency to find Nicolette, Terese then tells Paul about the visit from Aaron, who is really worried about David and passes on too about David nearly ending his career.
PAUL: If Nicolette is here, I will find her.
Paul meets up with Audrey beside Lake Burley Griffin, and from the off she makes clear she hasn't heard from Nicolette. "You are a terrible liar Audrey," Paul replies with and shows her the photo on his phone. Backing down, she admits to only seeing Nicolette once and that she doesn't know where Nicolette is living. Audrey does though explains why Nicolette did a runner - that "they all betrayed her" and thus "couldn't stay in Erinsborough anymore."
Despite Paul pushing for more information, Audrey doesn't have anything... until Paul does the 'emotional thumb screw' by saying he is terrified that David "is not going to see his own child."
AUDREY: I do have one idea.
With David at the cinema with his babysitter, Aaron can covertly meet up with his sister. He admits that he doesn't like keeping things from his husband, but "dealing with David now is hard" and declares himself "the worst husband in the world." "No you're not," Chloe is quick to reply with and thinks that sending David off with Kyle was a good idea to get him out of the downward spiral he is in. She thinks it is unfair he's having to be "the strong one" as he too is going through this situation.
Turning the conversation round, Aaron asks how Chloe is going, and after a quick work update, he can sense she is holding something back from him. "I really miss Nic," is what she eventually tells him and that she wishes she "had her back."
AARON: Back as in like you want to work things out with her?
CHLOE: You know the old saying, you don't know what you got until it runs off with your brother's baby!
"This isn't a joke!" Aaron reminds her and she knows that and admits that since knowing about the deal between Paul, Leo and Pierce, "things have been a lot clearer for me."
CHLOE: I know she really messed you and David around, but I love her. And I feel like a Grade A moron for letting things get as far as they did. I'm so sorry Aaron.
Chloe is very shocked when Aaron's reply is "it's okay, I get it," as she thought he would have walked out of the pub.
AARON: I guess I don't have it in me. I might have lost a baby. Now I'm losing David, I'm not going to lose you as well.
CHLOE: Not a chance!
Audrey's idea is that Paul could look for Nicolette in some park she used to love visiting. He agrees "its worth a shot" and before they part, he gets her to promise she'll contact him if she hears anything about Nicolette. She does though have something to say to Paul before he does head off.
AUDREY: She's not a bad person. I know that. It's a weird thing to say after everything that's happened but I know she'd never do anything to endanger the baby.
PAUL: Audrey, she has taken my grandchild away from us. I'm not going to rest until she's found.
Number 26 (garden)
Given they left half way through the film (David couldn't sit still any longer), Kyle suggests that he uses the spa to help him relax. David turns the offer down, content instead to join Kyle "stare at nothing" that is until Leo comes into the backyard looking for Kyle!
Leo was looking to have a drink with Kyle, so he quickly tries to get it to be beers for 3, but his idea goes down like a lead balloon and its Leo who is the one to leave. David explains he isn't "in a good place" with his brother, which Kyle admits to knowing about.
KYLE: I just thought because you were family, you might have sorted it out by now.
DAVID: Its not going to happen, what he did was unforgivable.
KYLE: Okay, I get that. All I'm saying is I remember a time when you guys were inseparable... you don't want to lose that.
Paul is lurking around the Old Parliament House when he spots someone looking like Nicolette and takes off after them. He yells out "Nicolette" and eventually we do see that it is indeed Nicolette!!!
"I hope David feels better soon," and "take care of yourself," Chloe says to her brother as they part ways, Aaron turning down the invite to spend more time with her (and cracking open Pierce's wine) in favour of going home to see David.
Just as the siblings are doing the farewell hugs, Kyle and David suddenly appear and catch them 'red handed'. Aaron comments on them being back early and when David expressed his unhappiness at seeing the siblings together, Chloe lies and says they just ran into each other. Rather than play along with the lie, Aaron explains that he met up with Chloe for a coffee and comes clean about meeting up previously too. David gives them both the 'evil eye' before muttering "unbelievable" and walking off.
Paul is back in his hotel room and telling Terese about seeing the woman he is convinced was Nicolette. "Did she see you?" Terese asks and Paul's reply is that Nicolette "would have heard me!" Just as he is telling her too about how quickly Nicolette was moving (for someone that is pregnant) it then dawns on him that him calling out might mean that she "takes off again." Terese doesn't think she would take off and suggests he goes back to where he spotted her to try and figure out where she went. She breaks it to Paul that she plans to call Aaron, which he is aghast at, and pleads that he be allowed the chance to talk to her first.
PAUL: I need to know what's going on in her head about this baby arrangement and the boys don't need any more disappointment.
TERESE: Some news is better than none.
PAUL: Terese, please just let me sort this before we get the boys involved... Please!
David is giving Aaron the silent treatment as he tries to explains what happened with Chloe, but when Aaron goes into a bit more detail (he wanted to say apologise for the "terrible things" he said to her as he "felt bad") that is like a red rag to a bull for David!
DAVID: You apologised to Chloe?!!!!
"Leo and Chloe made a mess of everything for us," David reminds him with. Aaron hasn't forgotten, he admits that he "can't stay angry like you."
AARON: It's exhausting.
"You think I'm choosing to stay angry?!" a very irate David asks back.
DAVID: This isn't a choice for me.
AARON: I didn't say it was, alright.
David then pulls out the 'you don't care as much as I do' card, which is Aaron's red rag to a bull!
AARON: Now you're being ridiculous!
"You do realise that we are going through the exact same situation," Aaron reminds his husband but David doesn't think so, because Aaron is sleeping fine, going about doing his work and of course "having coffee with your family!"
AARON: This is how I'm handling things alright! I'm not going to put my life on hold because of this.
DAVID: (interrupting) YOU'RE NOT ACTING LIKE YOU'VE JUST LOST A CHILD. Although I suppose you haven't. It's not like you have any biological connection to her.
Aaron is really taken aback by what David has just said to him.
DAVID: That's why you're not a mess like me. Because no part of her is actually yours!
Paul walks down Anzac Parade as he retraces his steps trying to find Nicolette. He has also been calling her but she doesn't answer the phone.
Number 22 (garden)
Terese is surprised to see David appear as she is doing some gardening. "Where's dad?" he asks and Terese simply replies that Paul is out before asking if he is okay?
DAVID: I just said the worst possible thing I could to Aaron.
TERESE: Well he knows your going through a terrible time.
DAVID: No, no, no. There's no excuse. I don't know what I'm doing any more. I can't eat, I can't sleep, I can't believe...
Terese tells him to slow down and David can barely get the last bit said, "I don't know where she is, I don't know how I'll find her," before he breaks down crying in Terese's arms.
Conveniently Leo comes out into the garden and sees his distraught brother but retreats back into the house as Terese reassures David that he isn't alone, "we're all here for you."
Paul is back in his hotel room when he receives a text message - its Nicolette asking if he is alone? He confirms he is and asks if they can meet. Nicolette is agreeable to that, but only him. Paul quickly texts back agreeing to her terms and that he simply wants to talk.
