Number 30
Toadie and Melanie are discussing all her workplace affairs. He asks how many there have been and she loses count.
TOADIE: Do you need another hand?
MELANIE: I've had a lot of jobs...
TOADIE: So work is the only place that you hook up?
MELANIE: I'm a working woman... the water cooler was always the best place to meet guys, although... it could get tricky if things ended badly...
TOADIE: Like when a wife finds out.
MELANIE: They weren't all married.
Toadie points out that he doesn't care how many men Melanie's been with, but it's the fact they were all her bosses.
MELANIE: Maybe I have a thing for men in charge. Is that so bad?
Toadie looks conflicted.
Number 32
Paul arrives to see David who looks wired. He tells his son to go and get some sleep but David says he can't stop thinking about everything and wondering if the baby is ok. Paul asks if he's heard anything from Jane and David replies that Toby hasn't heard from Nicolette since she last called. Jane and Clive are thinking of coming home. Paul says that Queensland was always a long shot and that he's sure Detective John Wong will find something soon.
DAVID: How could she do this? How could she run off with out unborn daughter?
PAUL: Well, she didn't. She was running from Chloe, not you. We will track her down and bring her home.
DAVID: And what am I supposed to do in the meantime?
PAUL: Just lean on me, come on mate. This will all be over soon, come and get some rest.
Number 28
Karl gets off the phone and says that the hospital's trying to get him to do some overtime.
HENDRIX: Maybe you should. Take Melanie with you. You can surgically remove all the jellybeans in her brain.
MACKENZIE: This isn't a joke, Hendrix. Toadie has put his whole heart into building this relationship with Melanie and it's all fake.
SUSAN: I just wish we knew about this earlier. Up until now we thought Melanie's actions were harmless. But to leave such a string of broken hearts and worse still, broken families.
KARL: Let's hope Toadie's isn't next.
Number 30
Melanie continues to explain her past.
MELANIE: I never meant to sleep with so many of my bosses. There's just something about working back late at night. The office is so quiet, so still. I mean you catch each other's eye across the photocopier.
Toadie can't quite believe what he's hearing.
TOADIE: You told me that you'd been in a dry spell since Joe.
MELANIE: Well, these were just affairs, they weren't relationships. And most of them ended badly anyway.
Toadie tells her that he wonders what will happen if she gets another job. Will she develop feelings for her boss then too?
MELANIE: I'm not gonna cheat on you. Because we have a proper relationship!
She tells him this is why she didn't tell him about her past, because she knew it would cause problems. Toadie, clearly frustrated, goes to pick up the kids from a play date. Melanie looks upset.
The Waterhole
Paul catches David on his way to work and can't quite believe he's going in, encouraging him again to take more time off. David's resistant to the suggestion and tells Paul that the hospital provides another opportunity to find Nic; David can put a note on her electronic healthcare record to be contacted when she gives birth. Surprisingly, Paul realises the stupidity of this plan and tells David it's not worth putting his career on the line to find Nicolette. David can't be persuaded to change his mind and heads off to work.
Erinsborough Hospital
David checks the coast is clear and makes his way to a staff computer. Nurse Kriptic gatecrashes his plans and asks what he's doing. She's surprised to see him back at work given the circumstances.
DAVID: I was happy to come in. Better than pacing at home.
SANDRA: You're such a dedicated doctor. I seriously don't know what we'd do without you.
She exits and David continues to add the note to Nicolette's healthcare record. He looks conflicted.
Number 28
Toadie arrives unannounced to see Susan. She's surprised to see him.
TOADIE: Got any biccies?
SUSAN: Always. Come in.
Mackenzie asks how Toadie is, and he admits he's ticked off with everything that's happened. He's especially annoyed with Mel. Susan tells him she understands if he's still annoyed with her but he replies that given everything, he probably needed to know about Melanie's past anyway. Susan suggests going in the garden for a catch up. Meanwhile, Mackenzie begins to fret.
MACKENZIE: I'm dead in the water.
HENDRIX: What are you talking about?
MACKENZIE: I'm the one who went snooping and found out about all of Melanie's affairs.
HENDRIX: So?
MACKENZIE: So, when Melanie gets angry, she gets even...she put prawns in her exes' car and dumped horse poo on another woman's doorstep. She's coming for me.
HENDRIX: She's not coming for you ok, relax. You'll be fine.
No amount of reassurance from Hendrix can convince Mackenzie. She's sure she'll be Melanie's next target.
Erinsborough Hospital
David's hand hovers over the mouse, as he decides whether to officially update the note he wants to add to Nicolette's hospital record. Karl walks in, surprised to see David there. As they make chit chat, Karl notices how tired David looks, advising him to go home. David says he's fine, and when Karl asks to access the computer, David's shifty behaviour becomes obvious.
KARL: David, you need to step aside so I can see what's on that computer.
David steps aside and Karl sees the note David was about to add. Karl and David look concerned.
Harold's Café (exterior)
Kyle arrives to see Roxy who's sitting outside Harold's. He's brought some cowslip and jojoba oils for her from the day spa. Sheila approaches.
SHEILA: Here you are. I want you both home tonight for dinner. I hope you're both hungry because I'm whipping up a feast!
ROXY: Is it somebody's birthday?
SHEILA: Well, more like a funeral. Levi and Amy have finally called it quits on that ridiculous fling and we are celebrating.
KYLE: Might hold off on the festivities there, gran.
SHEILA: Don't be silly, I've already done the shopping. Beetroot, spinach, cauliflower rice; all for Levi's energy, cause he'll need lots of that if he wants to nab himself a new girlfriend...and one that he doesn't have to share with another bloke! Still can't get over my very own grandson getting caught up in a kooky love triangle.
Roxy smiles.
SHEILA: What are you not telling me?
Number 26
Ned, Amy and Levi are discussing the details of their relationship in the garden.
LEVI: So do we need like a roster? You see Amy one week, I see her the next?
Amy laughs.
NED: Yeah, or we have a specific day.
AMY: As long as we're not too strict about it, we've gotta remain like, civil.
NED: Yes, and have a no kiss and tell policy.
AMY: Yeah, and if things get competitive, this whole thing is off!
LEVI: Well, it's sort of a given though, right? Getting jealous?
NED: Yeah, probably.
Sheila storms in and asks if what she's heard is true; that they're making this farce official.
SHEILA: People share pizzas. People share lifts to the pub. People don't share girlfriends.
AMY: I know it's unusual Sheila, but this arrangement is what everybody wants.
SHEILA: No, Amy, it's what you want.
Sheila continues to lay into Amy, saying a woman of her age should know better. Levi sticks up for her and Sheila hastily exits, saying they've all gone mad.
The Waterhole
Melanie enters the Café and Mackenzie panics, saying she doesn't want her to see her. Melanie notices Paul sitting at a table. She stands in front of him.
PAUL: What is it, Melanie?
MELANIE: I am desperate for a friendly ear...
PAUL: Well I was just going to leave actually.
MELANIE: You sound just like Toadie. He can't stand to be around me either.
Mackenzie makes a quick exit when Mel's not looking.
MELANIE: Everyone's got skeletons in their closet. Mine just happened to sign my timesheets. And now the rattling bones of the past are threatening our very future together.
PAUL: Yeah, well believe it or not Melanie, your problems really aren't all that interesting at the moment.
MELANIE: Why not? What have you got going on?
PAUL: ...Nothing. Look, whatever you've done, why don't you just say sorry and move on.
Mel admits she doesn't want to say sorry as she doesn't think it's a big deal that she dated a few bosses. She points out that she wouldn't have immersed herself so much in Toadie's family life and helped out with the kids if she wasn't serious about him. Paul tells her what she wants to hear; that he's sure it will all work out, then leaves. Melanie looks down.
Number 30
Toadie arrives home to find Amy, Ned and Levi in the living room. He looks awkward as if he feels like he's interrupted something. Amy tells him she's made her polyamorous relationship with Ned and Levi official. Toadie congratulates them and realises that Sheila clearly isn't a fan. Levi laughs that his gran thinks he's been corrupted.
TOADIE: Ok, well I'll go back and just keep playing with Nell and Hugo.
AMY: Oh, no need. My two significant others were just about to leave...best friend duties and all that.
She hugs Levi, then Ned, and they both leave. Toadie apologises for ruining her fun and she replies that the fun is only just starting.
TOADIE: Ah, Ames, if you're looking for someone to have fun with, I'm not that guy. Not today, sorry.
AMY: I'm making cocktails. You're gonna go and wait in the sun room and get ready to spill, ok?
Ramsay Street
Karl is dropping David off at home. He tells David he was lucky he caught him in time, before he saved the note to Nicolette's file. David looks relieved as Karl goes on to say that he's not going to report him. He tells him, though, to not ever do anything like that again. Paul walks down the drive.
PAUL: You back already?
DAVID: You were right, I...wasn't good enough to work.
PAUL: Alright, then why don't you come inside? I'll keep you company.
KARL: I think he's gonna try and get some sleep.
David tells Paul that he'll call him later. After David's gone, Paul gets a text from John Wong, saying he's got a lead on Nicolette.
The Waterhole
Hendrix and Mackenzie enter the Waterhole, but Mackenzie notices Melanie and wants to leave.
HENDRIX: You've made it this far without being egged or set alight. She's not going to do anything.
MACKENZIE: She could.
HENDRIX: Let's just go hang at the bar. We don't have to talk to her.
As they head to the bar, Melanie notices them.
MELANIE: Mackenzie!
As Melanie runs over to Mackenzie, she accidentally spills her cocktail all over her. Mackenzie assumes it was deliberate.
MELANIE: I'm so sorry!
MACKENZIE: I knew it, I knew that you were coming for me! I wrecked your relationship with Toadie and now you've wrecked my top!
MELANIE: That's bananas.
MACKENZIE: You're telling me.
MELANIE: Mackenzie, what's going on?
Hendrix says nothing's going on; everyone's just had a bad day. He says they'll just go and eat somewhere else and leave her in peace.
MELANIE: It was an accident, I swear. I'm not crazy!
Number 30
Amy's telling Toadie about her relationship with the boys. She says she likes them for different reasons; Levi because he's fun, and Ned because he's sweet and they have an emotional connection. Toadie begins to stew over his relationship with Mel again.
AMY: You don't really believe that you're just another employer to her, do you?
TOADIE: Even if I am something more, I've got Nell and Hugo to think of. And Mel is just so unpredictable.
AMY: But isn't that why you like her?
TOADIE: No, I need a girlfriend that is stable, one that I can trust. Not someone that could dump me and just go crazy at any moment.
AMY: People can change, they can learn.
TOADIE: True, but can Mel?
Meanwhile, Melanie sits in The Waterhole scrolling through photos of her and Toadie on her phone. She looks very upset, like she's about to cry.
Flamingo Bar (exterior)
Ned and Levi are talking about how they're going to navigate their new polyamorous relationship with Amy.
KYLE: So, who gets the lovely Amy tonight?
NED/LEVI: Toadie.
KYLE: Toadie? What, is he in the mix too?
LEVI: No, man. What are you talking about?
Roxy arrives with some beers. She looks glowing and says it's because Kyle gave her a massage with some new oils.
ROXY: I just wanna say, you guys are legends...in the future, everyone's gonna be poly. Share the love! Am I right, babe?
KYLE: Right.
Kyle looks unconvinced. Sheila arrives, asking why nobody's been answering their phones. She says dinner's ready and Kyle agrees to come home, but Levi says he wants to hang out with Ned. Sheila continues to lay into them for their new arrangement, saying this ménage à trois isn't appropriate, but Levi says their relationship has just as much chance lasting long-term as any other relationship does. She storms off in a huff.
Number 22
Paul meets John in the garden of Number 22. John asks if they should wait for David, but Paul says he doesn't want to bother him with this at the moment. John says he's found a lead after tracking Audrey. He shows Paul a photo.
PAUL: Where was this taken?
JOHN: Canberra.
It's a photo of Audrey and someone who looks a lot like Nicolette, taken from surveillance footage.
JOHN: What do you think?
PAUL: Oh yeah, that's her...
Paul looks pleased.
