Harold's Café
Ned walks in, takes one look at Yashvi staring daggers at Nicolette, and nearly walks right back out again. But he's unable to escape in time before Yashvi spots him. She murmurs a few things about Nicolette behind her back, but Nic duly informs them she can hear every word.
YASHVI: Well if you don't want to listen to experience, you're going to lose all your customers.
NICOLETTE: (muttering) There's one customer I'd be happy to lose.
Ned tells Vi that Nic probably doesn't want her feedback right now, but Yashvi reiterates just how terrible Ned's artwork would look on that particular wall. "I'm just happy she's willing to hang my stuff at all," Ned shoots back. "I don't care where it goes." Yashvi tells Nicolette that she's going to give Dipi a call so she can talk her through things, but Nic deftly says she's taking her break and doesn't have time. "She doesn't know what she's doing!" Yashvi grumbles, while Ned looks weary.
Ramsay Street
Bea inspects the car and Levi says he knows it needs to be converted from the left-hand drive, but it won't be a billy cart situation: "you will be in complete control." Bea says there's no rush to get everything done, but Levi figures the sooner it's fixed the sooner they can hit the road. He was thinking they could head to Broome to see her dad, then go through Sydney on the way home to visit her mum. Looking decidedly underwhelmed, Bea asks Levi what he'll do about work, but Levi says they've already said he can take leave straight away. Bea feels bad that Levi spent so much on her, looking even guiltier when Levi says she deserves it. "What could be better than going on a road trip with the woman I love?" he smiles.
Harold's Café
Ned barely has time to emerge from the bathroom before Nicolette's in his face, letting him know Yashvi's acting like a brat and that he should tell her to pull her head in. Ned agrees to get Yashvi out of the Café, but asks Nic not to talk about Vi like that again. His plans are derailed when Sheila 2 walks in and is immediately caught in the crossfire of Yashvi and Nicolette's argument. Realising she needs to retreat, Sheila pretends she left her phone in her room and quickly escapes. Ned attempts to coax Yashvi out of the Café, hinting that Nicolette might ban her if she keeps hovering. But Yashvi can't get past just how much Nicolette is changing the business and is concerned her ideas will bomb.
NED: That is not something you can control.
YASHVI: This place means so much to my family. What if everything we've built gets chucked out for this fresh, new thing and it fails?
NED: Embracing something new in here doesn't have to be a disaster.
YASHVI: (frustrated) All I want for you to say is 'Vi, you're right', and just have my back.
NED: I will have your back when you're being reasonable. At the moment you're not listening to anyone else, so what's the point?
Ned puts the whole conversation in the 'too hard' basket and leaves, leaving Yashvi a little stunned.
Ramsay Street
Levi is daydreaming about how fun their road trip is going to be and doesn't clock the dismal look on Bea's face. She's about to bring up her concerns with him when they're interrupted by Sheila and Kyle. Levi whispers to Bea not to mention the state of Kyle's nose as it's gotten worse (so much so, that the camera never shows Kyle's face the entire time he's on screen). Sheila and Kyle are delighted to learn that Levi bought Bea a car. Sheila beams and says Levi knows Bea so well, while Bea tries her best to muster up even an eighth of the Cannings' enthusiasm.
Lassiters Complex
Chloe, Aaron and David are also talking about the state of Kyle's nose when they stumble upon Yashvi and Nicolette having another argument out the back of Harold's. This time it's about a coffee grounds deposit point Nicolette has installed. Nic thinks it's great for customers to take and use in their compost, but Yashvi isn't keen on people eating next to food waste. Chloe ducks over to intervene and pulls Nicolette away before she explodes. David does his part by whisking Yashvi away for some volleyball practice. The Brennan siblings then think they're in for a nice little sit down and a coffee, but Nicolette reminds them they should be doing the training regime she wrote up so they're ready for the volleyball tournament. Chloe promises her they've got it in the bag.
The Hive
Ned overhears the end of a phone call Sheila 2's having with a young entrepreneur she's mentoring and he compliments her on how supportive she's being. "It's nice to see someone thinking of others," he adds. Sheila can tell Ned's fatigued by the Yashvi and Nicolette situation she walked in on earlier and says she's here if he needs to vent about it. Thinking about their 'moment' the other day, Ned offers to come back later and work if she doesn't want him around, but Sheila says there will be no worries working in the same space. Clearly that's a lie, though, as she makes a covert phone call to the other Sheila and asks if she can come down and act as a buffer.
Number 26 Backyard
Kyle is hidden amongst the washing he's hanging out when Bea and Levi join him outside. Bea offers Levi a more genuine thank you for the car, letting him know it's the nicest thing anyone's ever done for her. Levi says he just wants to make her happy and is glad he succeeded. When Bea heads off to run some errands for Karl and Susan, Levi chats with Kyle about how awesome the road trip is going to be. He believes all the alone time will allow them to build up more trust in their relationship. Levi then says that most of their problems have been because of his job, so this will be a holiday from that. "No work, no worries!" he says. The bottom half of Kyle's face not hidden by a pillow case doesn't appear too convinced by Levi's declaration.
Number 32/Harold's Café
Instead of working out like they promised, Aaron and Chloe are chilling on the couch together. Chloe states the volleyball comp has really turned Nicolette into a tyrant. Even though the Brennans agree they're already in great shape, they feel a bit guilty and think they should try some of the exercises. But when Chloe goes to check the email on her phone, she gets a phone call from Nicolette. Chloe puts her on speaker and then pretends she and Aaron are in the middle of exercising. The Brennans think their duplicitous plan is working until they're startled by Jane appearing in the kitchen. Nicolette sent her mum over to spy on them and says Jane's now in charge of their workout. Aaron tries to bribe Jane with some cocktails instead, but Jane simply laughs at him.
The Flamingo Bar
Cut to: Jane in active wear, shrilly blowing a whistle at Chloe and Aaron while she puts them through their workout paces on the volleyball court. They get more and more tired as Jane trains them like they're about to compete in the Olympics and not in a small-town volleyball comp on a patch of manky sand next to a disease-ridden lake. David and Yashvi observe from the sidelines, stoked that they don't have Jane as their trainer. Aaron mutters that he can see where Nicolette gets her strictness from, but Jane overhears him and makes him do extra push-ups.
The Hive
Sheila 2 is taking some snaps of the place on her phone so she can send them to her interior designer. Ned admits he "kind of winged it" when he set the place up, but Sheila likes how open and bright the space is. They get more and more animated as they talk through potential design ideas, especially when they talk about displaying art. The vibe is broken when the other Sheila arrives, as per Sheila 2's request. Sheila 2 pretends she called Sheila over for her event planning expertise. When Ned leaves them to it, Sheila 2 says she might not have needed a buffer after all, but Sheila is certain she saw sparks when she walked in and she'll do her best to chaperone.
Harold's Café
Jane drags a sweaty looking Aaron and Chloe inside for their break and encourages them to carb load while she looks for Nicolette. Chloe tells Aaron she wants to make a run for it but she can't actually move. David and Yashvi join them and David jokes that Aaron should make Jane a PT at The Shed, but Aaron reckons she'd scare all the clients away. Noticing the "fraternising", Jane pips her whistle at them and shoos David and Yashvi away from their team meeting.
Sitting at another table, David has a chat with Yashvi about her Café concerns. He doesn't think the changes look too bad, and Yashvi admits that she's being resistant to everything because all the reminders of her mum are being lost. David says the way she's feeling is totally understandable, and he bets if Yashvi told Nic the truth about why she's acting out, she'll be more understanding too.
The Waterhole
Bea spots Sheila 2 sitting at the bar and chats with her. Sheila says that she heard about Levi's big gift, calling it "impressive". She asks if Bea's spoken to Levi properly yet, but Bea says she didn't get a chance before he gave her the car. She thinks it might be for the best as the gift made her realise how lucky she is to have someone so thoughtful in her life that loves her.
SHEILA: Are you trying to convince me or yourself?
BEA: No, it just reminded me of why I fell for him in the first place.
SHEILA: You didn't sound so sure the last time we spoke.
BEA: This isn't a bad relationship. I've been in one of those before, I know the signs. Levi and I are great together. Every relationship has their ups and downs, that's all it was.
Bea then gets a text from Levi asking to meet him at The Flamingo Bar, so she heads out, crossing paths with the other Sheila as she goes. Sheila 2 thanks Sheila again for her help with Ned, but she doesn't think they'll have a 'moment' again so no more buffering will need to be done. "Good - I think?" Sheila says, as Sheila 2 nods and convinces herself that everything is just fine.
Harold's Café
Aaron asks Chloe who she thinks is worse - Nicolette or Jane. "Definitely Jane," Chloe says through gritted teeth, as Jane takes them back outside for round two of training. Meanwhile, Yashvi is apologising to Nicolette for taking out her anxiety on her. She says that every change Nic was making just took a piece of Dipi away from her. "And here I was thinking you were trying to make my life difficult," Nic replies. Yashvi says she wasn't trying, but she knows she did anyway, and she's sorry.
NICOLETTE: I don't want to mess this place up, so if you'd like, maybe we could discuss keeping one or two things the way they used to be.
YASHVI: (smiling) Really?
NICOLETTE: Yeah, as long as it goes with what I'm trying to do here. I mean, I don't want to ruin all your mum's hard work, but I really have to put my own stamp on this place.
YASHVI: Yeah I know. Maybe we could just make the cakes more front and centre. They're mum's special recipes and I don't want the customers to forget about them.
Nic says they can definitely do that, which makes Yashvi happy.
The Hive
When Sheila 2 arrives back, Ned says Roxy has been hassling him about the volleyball tournament and wonders if they're still playing as a team. Sheila doesn't think it's the best idea, so Ned suggests she play with the other Sheila instead as they seemed joined at the hip these days. Sheila admits she didn't really ask the other Sheila to come over before because of her event planning skills, but Ned already guessed as much.
SHEILA: I thought we needed a buffer.
NED: Does she know what happened?
SHEILA: No, I mean, nothing did happen right? We should be okay as long as we stay focused on the work.
Ned wonders if Sheila still wants more art lessons, but she says she's finished her painting. Sheila shows him the finished product and Ned tells her she's done a beautiful job. "Couldn't have done it without you," Sheila smiles. Ned breaks away before another 'moment' can happen and says he'll text Roxy back and tell her they're playing. When Ned's off making his call, Sheila accidentally knocks his sketch book to the ground. When she picks it up she realises Ned's done a sketch of her. Initially she's touched by the gesture, but then she looks worried.
The Flamingo Bar
Bea chats with Levi inside the bar about their road trip. She was hoping they could go through Adelaide on the way to check out the music scene. Levi's onboard with the idea, then suggests to Bea they could go camping at The Grampians too. This doesn't hold as much appeal to Bea and she admits she's not much of a camper. Levi relents and says he'll mix it up with some B&Bs for her. But Bea's happiness is short-lived when Levi starts to go on and on about their future and how excited he is about it all. Firstly, he can't wait to meet her parents and thinks they should make it a regular thing road-tripping to see them.
LEVI: And maybe next time we could get Kyle and Roxy to come along too. I totally understand why you loved this so much as a kid. I'm just imagining doing it with our own kids. All of us just going road-tripping. Man, it would be amazing.
Bea is looking a little sad and sorry for herself for getting into this situation, but it's too bad sorry won't turn back time (no, no, no).
The Hive
Sheila 2 shows Ned the sketch she found. Ned quickly insists that it doesn't mean anything, but Sheila still has to wonder why he drew it. Ned then says he needed an outlet and hoped the sketch would help him move past what he'd been feeling for her. Sheila moves closer to him and asks what those feelings are. Freaking out, Ned backs away and says he doesn't know before adding that he can't be around Sheila anymore. "I want out, I want out of the gallery. I quit!" he states emphatically, just as Yashvi walks into the building.
YASHVI: (confused) Wait, what happened?
Sheila is shocked to see her there and doesn't know what to say.
