Harold's café
And we start the week off at Harold's where Nicolette, Chloe and Jane are admiring the changes to the place courtesy of Lassiters money. The counter is now U-shaped (instead of L-shaped) and has been relocated to sit just in front of the doors leading to the kitchen. There is only 1 fridge now and that has moved to the wall adjacent to the kitchen door (where the big menu blackboard was). Where the shelves where behind the counter, they've gone and instead a fake window appears [like in The Waterhole]. The tables are now all around the space and there is less IKEA furniture and plants too.
When she enters the café, there is one person doesn't seem too happy at the changes - Yashvi. However she does follow the others to check out the new outside space, accessed via what was the door to the toilets. When outside, there is a bit of decking with some tables and a view over to the lake. Yashvi does seem to like the outdoor changes but still plans on taking photos to send to her mum.
Number 22
When Paul arrives home, Terese quizzes her husband about where he has been. Initially he tries to lie, but thanks to Ned's presence, the lies are quickly discovered and she demands he starts talking!
Number 26 (backyard)
Sheila is introducing Sheila 2 to the pigeons when Bea and Levi arrive. He mentions that the next podcast is live and heads indoors to get some speakers so they can all listen to it. While he is away, Sheila 2 gets the edited highlights of how Bea is away from her family but reveals she is considering going to see her dad in Broome now he's split from his wife (Bea didn't like her hence moving to Sydney).
The Waterhole
Mackenzie looks happy at the birthday text she's just received from Dipi and Shane, but the happiness is gone when it appears Harlow has forgotten it's her special day - she is more interested in wanting to know the latest about Brent. Thankfully, the smile is back when Hendrix trades places with Harlow and hands over a pressie - her own controller for when they play online games and he plans to shout her food too.
HENDRIX: Who needs Harlow when you've got me?!
Number 22
After coming clean with Terese (and Ned) offscreen, she isn't at all happy at Paul! "This is a new low even for you," she says but Paul has his own justification - protecting Harlow and pleads that they keep quiet so she doesn't discover what he has done. Neither plan on keeping quiet, citing that Harlow has a right to know, so Paul suggests a new deal - he will sort things out with Holden if they don't tell Harlow. Just at this point, Harlow arrives looking for a book to give to Brent, so everyone has their fake smiles on while she is in the house.
TERESE: Don't thank us, just fix it!
Remand centre
Toadie tells Brent about the new charges that he is facing - because the police have been able to track down some of the stolen items, they have the proof needed that it was Brent who stole them, rather than having to rely on Holden's word. When Harlow (who is also there) protests, Toadie has to explain that it's not about "degrees of guilt" it's now about whether Brent committed theft or not. "I did," Brent acknowledges, so Toadie gives him the bad news that he is likely to face jail time. Harlow is very quick to reassure Brent that she isn't going anywhere "no matter what."
Number 26 (backyard)
The trio finish listening to the podcast and Levi seems encouraged that if Bea can forgive her sister, then there is hope that she can learn to trust him too. Sheila 2 points out to him that sisters share a "special kind of bond" and his Gran warns too that things might not be "too easy." However, Levi is confident that they "will get there" as long as he "keeps putting in the work."
Harold's Café
Curtis likes the changes to the café when he comes into get his coffee... but what hasn't changed is the cool reception he gets from Jane when he tries to engage her in conversation.
Meanwhile, Hendrix has had enough of Mackenzie thinking more about Harlow (and her Brent woes) and so decides that for the rest of the birthday day, this will be the last time either of them mention their names... however, what neither had envisioned though was Curtis interrupting to see what the latest is on Brent!
Lassiters Complex
After hearing that Ned's visit to see Brent went okay, Yashvi and Ned instead start talking about the renovations at Harold's. We hear that Dipi, thanks to the photos Yashvi sent, seems happy enough of the changes although she still believes that the renovations were unnecessary.
At a distance, Ned spots Sheila 2 and Levi walking towards the complex and suddenly decides he would love to personally go and see the renovations! Although it turns out he could have avoided doing that when the duo's walk towards the complex is halted when Bea runs into them!
Bea is eager to hear if Levi and Sheila 2 enjoyed the podcast and both give her positive comments just like she received online. Bea tells them about her dad getting contact and that she is considering going to see him, although they seem more shocked that she plans to drive rather than fly to Broome - reminiscent of going on road trips as a kid with her dad.
Harold's café (exterior)
Paul delivers Terese the bad news - because the OPP has given Holden a reduced sentence deal, he is unwilling to retract the claims about Brent, even after Paul offered him twice the money!
TERESE: Why do you always do this?! You create mess that you can't clean up!
PAUL: Terese...
TERESE: (interrupting) These are people's lives that you are playing with... your granddaughters no less!
PAUL: I'm scared alright. I'm scared for what future Harlow may have with him. She's already been through so much with her father. I don't want her giving up any more of her heart to people who are stuck in a jail cell.
Terese is quick to remind Paul that without his interference, Brent would have avoided jail, but Paul is sure that inevitably, Brent would have ended up behind bars. "It may not be this time," he says, "but eventually," and thus the more Harlow attaches herself to Brent, the more hurt she is going to be when it does happen. "I'm scared too," Terese admits but finds it "unforgivable" that he has ruined Brent's life "because you know what's best."
TERESE: And now it's too late to fix it.
The Waterhole
When they run into each other in the bar, Toadie thanks Curtis for the character reference he has done for Brent. Curtis wants to know if Toadie's researched any other options for Brent. "I don't follow," Toadie admits and so Curtis explains he's heard of a way to keep Brent out of the prison system. "Take a seat," Toadie says to Curtis enthusiastically!
Meanwhile, so much for Hendrix's plan again that they should avoid talking about Brent, when he and Mackenzie sit and listen to the downbeat Harlow update them about Brent. "He doesn't deserve this," Harlow finishes with and doesn't see the point of going to Uni either today, even to try out the new diner with Mackenzie.
After Mackenzie leaves, Hendrix sits staring at Harlow. Eventually she says "what" and so he reminds her that today is Mackenzie's birthday before walking off himself.
Harold's café
When he sees it for himself, Ned seems impressed with the changes done to the place. However, Yashvi has found something else to complain about - that the menu has been changed, even though Nicolette explains that Dipi did approve. When she then offers Ned the chance to sell some of his artwork (along with other local artists) on one of the blank walls, Yashvi is quick to say stuff on that wall (according to Dipi) never looked right. When Yashvi goes to get back up from her mum, Nicolette has a go at Yashvi for being judgemental, but her rationale is saving Nicolette from "making a mistake." The ladies then want Ned to pick a side but thankfully for him, Terese needs him and he can't get out of the place quick enough!!!
The Waterhole
Ned's summons was for Terese to update him about Holden not changing his story. He isn't happy about keeping secrets, which earns Ned a lecture about him asking her to keep his secret about leaking The Hive's accounts to Sheila 2! Thankfully, the lecture is over when Paul joins them and Ned agrees not to tell Harlow the truth... "for now, but when Brent's sentencing comes in, that's on you," Ned finishes telling Paul.
Meanwhile Harlow is very apologetic about forgetting Mackenzie's birthday when she arrives. Mackenzie is very gracious about Harlow forgetting, and tells her friend how worried she is for her, but the conversation quickly changes onto whether to try out the new diner or not (they are).
Number 28
"Levi's so supportive of the podcast," Sheila 2 remarks as Bea finishes making a cuppa for them both. "Yes, he's been really great," Bea replies before admitting that she's been thinking a lot about him and their relationship lately. "I love him," Bea is quick to say but isn't, unlike Levi, thinking about a long-term relationship thanks to what happened with Finn, the lass simply wants "to enjoy the now."
BEA: I don't feel like we're on the same page.
SHEILA 2: It sounds to me, like it's a classic rehab relationship. Sometimes we find ourselves drawn to someone who helps us to heal.
BEA: So you think I've been using Levi to get over everything that's happened?
SHEILA 2: My Nan used to say people come into your life for a season or a lifetime.
BEA: And if they're not meant to be for a lifetime?
SHEILA 2: Then you'll know.
Remand centre
Brent admits he is surprised to see one of his latest visitors (Curtis is there along with Toadie) and apologises sincerely to his former teacher. "It's in the past," Curtis replies and would rather chat about Brent's future. Toadie then explains why they are visiting - Curtis has come up with a potential solution for Brent to avoid a custodial sentence.
CURTIS: The Australian Defence Force.
Toadie explains to the confused Brent, that although they don't advertise it, they will accept recruits who can demonstrate seeing the army as getting back on a "positive pathway." Brent is all for it if it means no jail time and will do whatever is required to make that happen. Before he gets his hopes up too much, Toadie does warn him that this pathway would mean "a long stint away from Erinsborough."
BRENT: From Harlow?
TOADIE: Yes, so, you'd have to think about it. Is that something you're prepared to do?
Ramsay Street
Bea exits her house a bit too soon for Levi to have finished preparing a pressie for her - he's bought her a car!! "Why?!" she asks and he explains that given how she talked about doing road trips as a kid, he figured that they could do the car up and go on a road trip together.
LEVI: So what do you think?
BEA: ...
