Erinsborough Hospital
Roxy arrives with flowers for Harlow, to find her amidst an intense conversation with Paul.
HARLOW: That noise... it sounded like an explosion.
PAUL: Come on, you need some rest.
HARLOW: Grandad, you have to tell me. You heard it too. Please tell me. Why haven't I heard from her?
ROXY: You have to tell her, Paul, please!
Paul relents and sits on the bed.
PAUL: Harlow... while you were on the island, your mother died.
Harlow bursts into tears, and Paul comforts her.
No 24
Elly is with Chloe, and lamenting over the fact that she forgot to tell the police she turned off the water tap. Chloe reminds Elly she was stressed; she couldn't have been expected to remember everything.
CHLOE: You'll be fine. As long as it's the only oversight (...) and Mark's got your back.
Elly explains that she's keeping the fact she's been questioned from Susan until she's out of hospital. Chloe assures Elly she'll be in the clear by then, as hopefully the forensics report will prove Finn's death was accidental. Hendrix comes out of his room.
HENDRIX: Either way, I hope it was long and painful.
Mark comes in, having been to see Susan; Chloe asks whether it was as a friend or a detective! He doesn't answer, and Elly, feeling uncomfortable, rushes off home.
MARK: Can you please not put me on the spot like that? I'm Elly's friend, but you know the position I'm in!
CHLOE: She's freaking out! She needs you in her corner.
MARK: I am! But I've got a job to do.
Erinsborough Hospital
Harlow is still tearful, and feeling very guilty about her last conversation with Prue, as Paul, Terese and Roxy try to comfort her.
HARLOW: I was so awful - I yelled at her!
TERESE: Sweetheart, you were angry! I mean, she wouldn't have taken it to heart.
HARLOW: And Gary - he broke off the engagement.
Paul assures Harlow none of this is her fault.
HARLOW: I just really hope she knew that I loved her.
TERESE: Of course she did.
Paul says the police are trying to work out what happened now.
Harold's Café
Paul and Terese run into Sky and Mark, and asks if there's any news on the Prue investigation.
SKY: We're now certain it was Finn Kelly who constructed the bomb.
MARK: Forensics have confirmed it.
PAUL: So you're saying that Finn rigged Prue's car?
SKY: Well, strangely, it doesn't appear that way. Our explosives expert determined the bomb was on the passenger seat when it detonated.
Paul tells Mark and Sky about the voicemail message Prue left; just before it cut out, she said that she needed a drink.
TERESE: Prue had one of the Lassiter's honeymoon boxes. She knew that there was champagne in there.
MARK: Right, so the bomb is in the box, and it's triggered by Prue opening the lid.
SKY: Right, but why would he target Prue?
TERESE: The box that Prue had - it was meant for Lucy.
Paul explains that Finn and Lucy had a few run-ins regarding his ban from Lassiter's.
SKY: Surely that's not enough to want her dead?
MARK: He was unhinged and paranoid. Who knows what his logic was?
Erinsborough Police Station
Mark gives Sky the forensics report from the scene of Finn's death, saying all the evidence for Elly's involvement is circumstantial. Sky skim-reads it.
SKY: Unfortunately there's nothing that disproves Elly did it, either.
MARK: I don't believe she's deliberately hiding anything from us. I mean, her account of what happened with the tap is plausible.
SKY: Material was found on Finn's phone that is looking like it's troubling, too (...) Video diaries - he's been logging them for the last month or so (...) A record of his memory coming back, what he was planning. It makes me think that there's more to this story than Elly has told us. It's not the only thing she hasn't been open about, Mark.
Sky passes Mark her laptop, telling him to watch the videos - he'll then understand why Elly has more questions to answer.
Lassiter's Complex
Karl pulls up in the car with a very agitated Susan. They're collecting some food so she can make meals for Sheila - and then Susan wants to go home and clear Finn's things out of the house, and get Bea some new bedding. Karl tells Susan she needs to rest.
SUSAN: No, I don't, Karl. I can't stop. If I stop... I think about him.
Susan decides she needs to call Claudia, Finn's mum, to let her know of his death. Karl suggests she wait a day or so.
SUSAN: She mightn't be the easiest person, Karl, but she's lost two sons in the space of a few months.
KARL: I'm not saying don't call her. But at the moment, you're putting everyone else's needs first. You need to focus on yourself!
But Susan just walks away.
Erinsborough Hospital
Roxy is still with a very sombre Harlow, but manages to get a smile out of her with the news that she's brought choccies. Hendrix turns up, which prompts another smile from Harlow - Roxy reveals she texted him, so they could chat. She leaves them to talk.
HARLOW: You knew, didn't you? Yesterday, when you came to see me?
HENDRIX: I hated keeping it from you. It just wasn't my place. I'm so sorry.
He sits down next to her.
HENDRIX: I don't really know what to say.
HARLOW: It's okay. I don't really want to talk about it anyway. So, can we just sit here and talk about nothing?
HENDRIX: Yeah. Yeah, we can totally do that.
He holds her hand, then kisses it.
No 32
Elly is having a cuppa on the patio, when Susan turns up. They hug, and Susan says she's come round to take Aster and give Elly a break. But Elly says she feels at her most normal when she's concentrating on Aster.
ELLY: I'm kicking myself for not listening to you.
SUSAN: You did what you could.
ELLY: No, I didn't. I should have told you how complicated things were between me and Finn, like when we kissed.
SUSAN: You're not the one to blame for this.
ELLY: I told you I was in control of the situation. Clearly I wasn't. I knew it was a bad idea that we were together on that island.
SUSAN: Finn's problems started way before that (...) Elly, come home. You need support; I can help you. I know Karl will feel the same.
ELLY: Bea won't, not when she finds out about me and Finn. Besides, I don't know if I can face living with all the memories of him. I don't know how you're doing it.
Susan looks shaken.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul and Terese arrive at Harlow's room, to find Hendrix keeping her occupied by reading one of Roxy's trashy magazines to her.
HENDRIX (reading): Taking to Twitter, the fashion mogul posted two tweets about her baby daddy (...) She went on to highlight that the facts have been blown completely out of proportion.
HARLOW: Hmm. Like her lips.
Seeing that it's helping Harlow, Terese tells Paul they should give the kids some time alone, so they don't go in. Chloe arrives in the ward to pick up Hendrix, and chats to Paul and Terese; we learn Harlow doesn't yet know that Finn's bomb caused the explosion that killed Prue. But Terese says they'll have to tell her.
Ramsay Street
Susan marches out of the house with a box of Finn's belongings, and starts tossing them into the wheelie bin. First up is the photo of the family, including Finn, from Aster's naming day. Susan tears it up bitterly, and throws it away. Karl emerges, telling Susan to let him do all this.
Susan explains Elly won't move back home because of the memories of Finn; that's why she's throwing everything of his away.
SUSAN: The police have taken what they want; I want everything else gone!
Mark and Sky pull up in a car, and head towards No 32. Susan guesses they need to talk to Elly again and wants to go and support her, but Karl doesn't think she should. Susan says that in that case, he should go instead - but Karl insists he's staying with Susan to support her right now.
No 32
Sky and Mark are grilling Elly about the findings of the forensics report.
SKY: As you know, Finn died from drowning, after suffering a blunt force trauma to the base of his neck.
MARK: (...) We believe that the neck injury was caused by a rock found lying near his body. There were flecks of it in the wound.
ELLY: Right. So he fell back and hit his neck on it.
MARK: That would be the likely conclusion - except your DNA was found on that rock.
ELLY: What? How?!
SKY: Can you tell us?
ELLY: Do you - do you think that I hit him with it?! I jumped in the hole to check his pulse. I could have touched the rock. I probably touched lots of them.
SKY: What about your Feelings™ for Finn Kelly? He left behind some pretty detailed video diaries, where he talks about the fact his feelings for you had returned. Elly, now is the time to be completely honest with us.
ELLY: I have been nothing but honest with you guys. The reason I didn't mention it is I didn't think it was relevant. Surely this can't be used against me as evidence - I didn't kill Finn!
Lassiter's Complex
Chloe and Hendrix have stopped for a drink outside The Waterhole. He's worried for Harlow, saying her whole life has changed because of Finn - and he has no idea how to make her feel better.
CHLOE: You seemed to be doing a pretty good job of it at the hospital earlier.
HENDRIX: I felt useless. I was just reading dumb magazines to her.
CHLOE: Sometimes, just being there is enough.
HENDRIX: Harlow's mum is all she had. Her dad's in jail.
CHLOE: She's got good friends like you. And Paul and Terese - they'll look after her.
HENDRIX: You know, for the first time, it's made me think how lucky I am. I've got two half-decent parents. Actually... I've kind of got three.
CHLOE: Did you just call me half-decent?
HENDRIX: Do you want me to take it back?
CHLOE: Nope!
No 32
Susan and Karl arrive to see Elly following Sky and Mark's departure. Susan says they wanted to question her afterwards, but she wasn't ready; she's got to go to the police station soon. Elly's panicking as Mark told her to have a lawyer, but she didn't think she'd need one. Karl goes indoors to make them all a cup of tea.
ELLY: Finn made video diaries, Susan (...) The police have been going through them.
SUSAN: Well, what does he say on them?
ELLY: They wouldn't tell me much. Apart from the fact that he said I felt something for him, too.
SUSAN: Did you explain to Mark and Sky?
ELLY: Yes, and that I didn't keep it from them deliberately. But it wasn't good enough for Sky. The way she was talking, it's like she thinks I killed him.
SUSAN: But you didn't - you didn't! And you just have to hold onto that... If they ask me if I knew about you and Finn, I'm gonna have to tell them the truth.
ELLY: Yes, absolutely. You need to be completely honest, okay? I need them to see I have nothing to hide.
Susan nods. She's visibly struggling to hold it together.
Erinsborough Hospital
A forlorn Harlow is listening to the voicemail message from Prue. It reaches the end, where we can hear the explosion ripping through Prue's car; but Harlow restarts the recording from the beginning, and listens again. She cries as Prue's harsher, earlier words resonate with her, and feels guilty for her role in what happened.
Erinsborough Police Station
Susan is in the interview room with Mark and Sky.
SKY: We'd like to start by clarifying a small point in your earlier statement (...) specifically when Elly headed back to the cabin (...) You and Elly were about to escape with Aster. You were all safe. It seems like an odd decision for her to make.
SUSAN: We were terrified. We weren't thinking straight.
SKY: I understand. But did she say anything about her intentions? Did she say anything to you when she left you at the car?
SUSAN: Well, she may have.
SKY: I know how difficult this must be, Susan, I do. But I need you to try and remember. Susan?
SUSAN: She possibly said something about Finn.
SKY: What, exactly?
SUSAN (defensive): Well, she was upset! You have to remember what he'd just done to us!
SKY: Of course. It was horrific. But I need to know Elly's exact words.
SUSAN: ... She said she was gonna make sure that... that Finn could never hurt any of us ever again.
SKY: Is that all? Susan?
SUSAN: I asked her what she thought she was gonna do, and she said, 'whatever it takes'.
Sky and Mark fall into surprised silence.
SUSAN: Elly did not kill Finn. I know that with every fibre of my being. She just wanted to make sure that he was brought to justice. Mark, please, come on - you know Elly. You know she could never do anything like that!
SKY: Thank you, Susan. That's all I need from you.
SUSAN: No!
Susan looks pleadingly at Mark.
Lassiter's Complex
Hendrix is sitting in the courtyard pensively. He sees Susan nearby, looking traumatised, and goes over to ask if she's okay health-wise, having heard she was in hospital from Harlow.
SUSAN: How is she?
HENDRIX: Pretty bad - especially after she found out about her mum.
SUSAN: Why? What happened with Prue?
HENDRIX: Uh, I thought everyone knew... She's dead.
SUSAN: No! How?!
HENDRIX: The police think Finn put a bomb inside one of the honeymoon boxes (...) Prue took it, and it exploded in her car.
But this is really the last straw for Susan, and she breaks down completely, sobbing uncontrollably. Hendrix doesn't know what to do, and gingerly tries to comfort her. But she's inconsolable by the time Karl arrives and asks her what's wrong.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul, Terese and Roxy are with Harlow.
PAUL: Harlow, about your mum - there's more we have to tell you... We knew that she took a honeymoon box with her. What we didn't know is that Finn had tampered with it.
Harlow is shaking her head in disbelief.
PAUL: He put a bomb in the box. It wasn't meant for your mum. It was actually meant for Lucy. It was a... a terrible, terrible accident.
Harlow can't take this news and starts sobbing loudly. Terese goes to hug her, as Paul and Roxy look almost as distraught.
Ramsay Street
Karl and Susan arrive home in the car. Susan is desperate to talk to Elly, who is across the street, and starts walking towards her.
KARL (to Susan): Now, remember, you had to answer their questions truthfully. She'll understand.
ELLY: Are you okay?
SUSAN: I'm so sorry. I think I've made everything worse.
Indeed, it appears that way; as Sky and Mark pull up in the street, followed by another police car.
ELLY: Mark? Mark!
Apparently unwilling to arrest Elly himself, Mark asks 'Detective Mangel?' But Sky, who's looking a little traumatised herself, shakes her head and passes her handcuffs to Mark.
ELLY: Mark, what is going on?
MARK: ...Elly Conway, you are under arrest for the murder of Finn Kelly.
KARL: You know this isn't right!
But Mark slaps the cuffs on her anyway! Elly looks frantic.
