Number 22
Aaron is delighted with Paige and Mark's wedding news and gives them both a hug and a kiss on the cheek. He's keen to get his "planning pants" on (along with the happy couple, David, Ned and Yashvi). But Mark says they don't really get a say in proceedings; it's pretty much all locked in. Except for Aaron being the best man of course. Paige adds that they're off to see Terese soon to finalise everything but at least they know they're going to Rome for a honeymoon. Yashvi tries to take a peek in the honeymoon box (of doom), while Aaron shakes another, less explode-y, box.
MARK: Put that down!
PAIGE: Aww Mark, no one's going to know if we sneak a little peek.
MARK: I will! It's against the rules.
NED: Bet you've missed that catchphrase.
PAIGE: Can't say I have.
Mark says he needs to ring Chloe and tell her the good news, but Aaron calls dibs. He knows she's going to freak out.
Ramsay Street
Paul sees Gary washing the car he bought Prue and can't help paying him out.
PAUL: Get a load of this beaten-up old wreck. And he's got a new car!
GARY: It's not my car, Paul. I bought this little beauty for my special lady.
PAUL: Ahh right, well that's pretty good forward-thinking there, Gary. I think you should supply all your fiancées with a getaway vehicle.
Terese finishes putting out the rubbish and walks over to Gary, trying to offer him upbeat vibes about the wedding in the face of Paul's negativity. Gary notes that it's difficult to be truly happy with both Kyle and Harlow bailing on the ceremony. Paul realises Gary doesn't know about Harlow's fight with Prue and begins to gloat, but Terese snaps "enough Paul", before gently explaining things to Gary.
TERESE: Ignore him. He's being insufferable.
GARY: He's right. People aren't exactly queuing up to wish us well. I feel like no one really gives a rat's.
TERESE: No, I do. Gary I'm in your corner. I've seen how you look at Prue.
GARY: I'm glad you get it. I just wish other people could see how happy we are.
TERESE: They will. You can't ignore wedded bliss when it's staring you in the face. I mean it either warms the heart or makes you wanna puke!
GARY: Terese, that's just beautiful.
TERESE: Yeah I thought so.
They grin at one another.
Number 26
Prue has an old brooch, a new dress and then asks Gary for a $10 note as that covers both borrowed and blue. Gary jokes that he hopes he doesn't find that down "some bloke's g-banger later" it being Prue's last night as a single woman and all. Prue says she'll probably just go to the bar for a quiet drink since Harlow and Roxy are away. Gary asks if Prue had a fight with Harlow. Prue admits they did but fluffs the truth, claiming it was about Harlow not wanting to share her mum. Gary then wonders if they should postpone the wedding until all their kids are on board with the idea. But Prue is adamant the wedding go ahead as planned.
Number 22
Jane says that Terese must be proud of how beautifully Mark and Lucy's wedding turned out. Terese is acting quite brusque with Jane, though, and when Paul makes yet another crack about Gary and Prue, she looses her cool.
TERESE: Leave it, Paul.
PAUL: Oh come on, you don't seriously expect smooth sailing with those two clowns do you?
TERESE: Listen, why are you being so negative? I am getting sick of your constant sniping, Paul.
JANE: Ah, okay, that's enough! With all this love in the air you two have been behaving as though you barely even like each other. What's going on?
Terese asks if Paul cares to fill Jane in, and when Paul says no, she glares at him until he relents. Paul tells Jane that Terese knows all about Mannix, the money and the letter.
TERESE: The letter that included...
PAUL: Vows that Terese wrote for our wedding.
Jane buries her face into her hands.
TERESE: I poured my heart and soul into those words and then he just goes and gives them to you!
Jane says she feels terrible and can't imagine what Terese feels like. Terese retorts that she's not great, and then heads off to bed in quite the foul mood.
Harold's Café
The next morning Sky is having a catch up with Shane, Dipi, Yashvi and Ned. Dipi asks what brought Sky back to Erinsborough. Sky mentions the wedding expo and that it was a good excuse to see everyone. She also wants to see Toadie and asks when he might be back. Shane says it should be some time that afternoon.
YASHVI: What's the deal with you and Dylan? I heard it's splitsville?
DIPI: Yashvi! Don't just say stuff like that!
SKY: No, it's fine. You know what, it's not a big story. We just grew apart. Still best friends, co-parenting...
She trails off when she sees Jane come in the door and excuses herself to have a chat with her cousin. Sky quietly asks Jane to keep her engagement news a secret because she doesn't want to tell anyone yet. Jane wonders why she wants to keep the news from the rest of her family, but Sky says it's a timing thing. "I'll shout it from the rooftops when I'm ready, but just not now." Jane's still confused but assures Sky her secret is safe.
Number 26 Backyard
Gary knows Dipi is familiar with his pigeons and was hoping she would look after them while he's on his honeymoon. Dipi happily agrees and says she'll even whip up a special batch of her "Dipi feed".
GARY: They're gonna be spoilt. Gourmet grub and lotsa love!
DIPI: Well yeah, that is my special ingredient. That and the linseed of course.
GARY: I reckon it's more love than linseed because that's just who you are, Dip. You just put your heart and soul into everything.
DIPI: Gary that's so sweet!
GARY: It's true. I guess days like this just make you a bit philosophical, y'know? You count your blessings.
Dipi wraps Gary in a hug.
DIPI: You are a great man, Gary Canning.
GARY: And you're a good mate. I like you almost as much as my birds. (Whispering) Okay, maybe a little bit more but shhh!
Sheila walks out with Gary's phone and says he has a text message. She accidentally saw it when she was plugging in the steamer for her best man dress. The text is from Harlow, sent last night. Gary looks distraught and then runs off without explaining to Sheila and Dipi was the message was about.
Number 22
Prue is dolled up in her wedding dress talking to Terese. She sees the honeymoon packages on the bench and goes over to take a peek but Terese shoos her away. Gary comes over and Terese makes a fuss about not seeing the bride before the wedding, but Prue doesn't mind. Terese leaves them to chat and Prue waggles her eyebrows at Gary suggesting they smooch. But Gary's not in a jovial mood.
GARY: I got a text from Harlow earlier. She said that it wasn't your choice to leave The Order. Is that true?
Prue's smile disappears.
Number 24
Mark asks how Paige's phone call with Brad and Lauren went. Paige says her parents had some concerns about them moving too quickly but ultimately gave their blessing. She adds that it was actually Jack who convinced them.
PAIGE: They did have one big question that I couldn't answer and I think that we should maybe start talking about it.
MARK: Let me guess, a geography question.
PAIGE: (nodding) I mean a long distance relationship is one thing, but a long distance marriage?
MARK: One of us is going to have to move.
Number 22
Gary insists that Prue answers his question and his heart is crushed when she says Harlow's text is true. The Order kicked her out because she couldn't pay her fees and now they're chasing her for money. Prue says she wanted to tell Gary but she was too embarrassed. Gary starts to get upset. Prue is adamant they'll get through this, "it's only money". But Gary doesn't give a stuff about the debt.
GARY: You've been lying to me! You didn't have an epiphany, you got the boot.
PRUE: It's not that black and white.
GARY: But if they take you back would you re-join?
Prue's silence confirms his fears. Gary can't believe what's happening and is hurt and angry that the "pretty picture" Prue had been painting about their new life together isn't actually what she wants.
GARY: Your daughter and my son both told me that I didn't know you well enough to marry you and I should have listened to them! I can't marry someone when I feel like a consolation prize.
PRUE: No you're not, you're my jackpot, Gary! (She grabs him by the shoulders) I love you and you love me and we need each other.
GARY: (incredibly frustrated and upset) PRUE! I just... can't... do this.
Prue pleads with him to listen but Gary turns away from her and leaves.
Harold's Café
Dipi and Sky ask Jane what exactly happened between Terese and Paul to cause their fight. Jane won't go into details except to say it's her fault.
SKY: Ah, knowing Paul Robinson, I highly doubt his relationship drama is down to you.
Terese walks in and goes to the counter. Jane joins her and tries apologising again, asking if they can sit and talk. Terese still isn't in the mood to listen. Jane understands she feels betrayed but says Paul was just trying to help.
TERESE: Jane I can't really talk to you about this.
JANE: I know me standing up for Paul isn't what you want to hear right now.
TERESE: You're right! It's not.
JANE: Yes, Paul Robinson is controlling. He's loose with the truth but the choices he makes, good or bad, he makes because he cares. You know exactly who Paul is; you married him, meddling and all. And you're doing a better job at keeping him in check than anyone else has. So please, please don't let this come between you. Love like yours is too precious to waste.
Ramsay Street
Sheila is wearing a nice blue 'best man' frock as she chases Gary down the #26 driveway in concern. He has a backpack with him and a plan to head to the island to make up with Kyle.
SHEILA: But we can always get him on the phone.
GARY: Mum he tried to warn me about Prue and I ignored him and almost decked him because I am a crap dad.
SHEILA: Gary you are not a crap dad, you are a good father and you set a good example. And you followed your heart like you always do!
GARY: And mum look where that's got me!
SHEILA: There are worse places you could have ended up, son. There are a whole lot of people out there in the world who love and respect you and you know why? Because they are people who can see who you really are.
GARY: Yeah, an idiot.
SHEILA: Yeah, that too. But a kind and brave man who is not afraid to take risks and is so vulnerable.
GARY: I don't deserve a mum as good as you.
SHEILA: (smiling) Well, you're stuck with me.
GARY: It's a pity you can't be my best man. But you're the best Sheila I've ever known. You're the only Sheila I've ever known.
They have a chuckle together but their mood is soured when Paul joins them. He's annoyed that Gary isn't at the hotel for his wedding then starts to laugh when he thinks that Prue dumped him.
PAUL: I should have known that you wouldn't have been able to seal the deal, even with her.
SHEILA: Listen to me, Bags...
GARY: No mum it's okay. You know what? I mightn't have a lot of luck with the ladies, and I mightn't be able to buy flash cars and have stacks of cash. But I'm richer than you'll ever be.
PAUL: (sighing) This is gonna be great, go on.
GARY: Yeah? You know why? Because I have family who love and respect me. And let's face it, you've got more children than either of us will probably ever know about, and most of them can't stand you!
PAUL: You are a waste of space, Canning.
GARY: No, you are a waste of space, Robinson. The only thing you've got going for you is Terese and you'll probably lose her in the end as well. Just like the rest of your wives. And I can't wait for that to happen because she deserves a hell of a lot better than you!
Paul actually looks as though Gary's words might have finally got through his steely armour for once. Sheila looks on proudly at her son.
GARY: I'll let you know when I get there, mum. I love you.
He turns to Paul.
GARY: Screw you.
He gets into the car and burns out the driveway into the street, nearly running Paul over in the process.
Number 24
Mark and Paige return home after their chat with Terese about the wedding. They tell David and Aaron they basically have to use Tom and Ian's whole plan - even right down to Mark wearing a kilt.
AARON: At least it will save you time. You won't have to iron your lucky undies!
MARK: Hey! I will be wearing, and ironing, my favourite underpants thank you very much.
AARON: Lets look at the damage, McBrennan.
He takes the wedding pamphlet from Mark with a chuckle.
Number 22
Prue is pacing the living room when Paul returns home to gloat about her and Gary splitting up. Prue insists that Gary loves her and they're still getting married, she just needs a breather to figure things out. Paul looks on in disdain as Prue starts reciting one of her Order chants: "Out of the puddle and into the pond." He bursts her bubble by telling her that Gary has escaped to the island and suggests she pack her bags and get out too. But Prue has other ideas. She grabs her flowers and one of the honeymoon boxes - she's going to chase after Gary.
Ramsay Street
Prue deposits the honeymoon box onto the passenger seat of the car Gary bought her before climbing into the driver's side. She speeds out of the street.
Harold's Café
Jane looks tense about keeping Sky's secret while Sky continues her chat with Dipi and Shane.
DIPI: I can't believe Dylan's a skydiving instructor. That is impressive.
SHANE: I thought he was afraid of heights. Isn't he afraid of heights? I should call him, it's been ages.
SKY: No, you can't... um, he's doing a recertification flight in the middle of nowhere. There's no reception.
She gives a pointed look at Jane who quickly complies with her story, which the Rebecchis seemingly buy. Sky's phone starts to ring and she freezes before putting on a smile.
SKY: It's granddad. How funny, granddad calling while I'm in Harold's!
She walks off to take her call. Shane asks Dipi if she thinks Sky's acting a bit strange. Dipi nods and says it's almost like there's something she's not telling them, before asking Jane if she knows anything. Jane smiles and says if Sky has something to say then she'll tell them in her own time.
The Waterhole
Terese is alarmed when she sees Sheila and finds out that Gary called off the wedding. She's even more frustrated when she gets a text message from Paul that says, 'Meet me at the Terrace. Let me fix this.'
TERESE: This is a nightmare. What am I supposed to do? I don't have a Plan B.
SHEILA: Well if anyone can find a Plan B, it's you... Sorry.
Sheila walks off and Terese gets another text from Paul. 'Please come. I love you.'
Number 22
Paige happily tells Mark that they're going to have to update the guest list; she just spoke to Jack and he's bringing Gabe down for the wedding. Paige says it's the last piece of the "crazy puzzle" falling into place to make everything perfect. Mark teases that she may want to rethink that when she sees him in a kilt. She smirks and leans in for a smooch.
PAIGE: Have you got your leg wax yet?
MARK: No, and I don't think I have time. The clock is ticking.
PAIGE: It is, and I am counting every tick.
Cut to: very obvious shot of Possible! Honeymoon! Bomb! Box! Of! Doom!
The Terrace
Terese finds Paul standing near the archway where Gary and Prue were supposed to be married. She tells him she doesn't have time for his shenanigans, but Paul has something he'd like to say.
PAUL: Look, I know what I did was wrong. Marrying you is my most precious memory. You see, our wedding was perfect and I've gone and tarnished that.
TERESE: You have.
PAUL: So, I want to try and put things right.
TERESE: And how do you intend on doing that?
PAUL: By renewing my vows.
TERESE: (scoffing) You think it's that easy? Flick on the fairy lights and wipe the slate clean?
PAUL: Terese I can't deny that yes, I have made mistakes. But I do love you, and I always will. Because you accept me for my flaws and my strengths.
TERESE: (softening slightly) You don't have any new material?
Paul smiles and takes her hands in his.
PAUL: Terese you are my great love and my best friend. And you know, living by your side, that's an honour and a privilege to me. I guess words can't express how devoted I am to you, and I want to spend the rest of my life loving, protecting and worshipping you. Are you going to let me do that?
TERESE: What am I suppose to say to that, Paul?
PAUL: Yes would be good.
TERESE: (blunt) You are lucky to have me.
PAUL: Luckiest man alive.
They share a kiss.
The Waterhole
Paul and Terese find a table and he asks if she wants something to eat. But all Terese wants is for her husband to keep grovelling; she's quite enjoying that. She also wishes that their vow renewal counted as an expo wedding, she's fretting that they're never going to make five. Terese sees Jane walk towards the bar with Sky and says she thinks she needs to apologise to Jane. But first, Terese has a confession to make to Paul.
TERESE: I shredded her emails but I read a couple of them first. I couldn't help myself, but I did see something that, I don't know, it's just been playing on my mind.
She whispers something to Paul. Jane sees them from the bar and tells Sky that the couple must be back on track. Sky says it's a good thing, now Jane can stop feeling so guilty. Back at the table, Terese asks Paul what he thinks about what she just told him.
PAUL: I think that's something that could change Jane's life!
TERESE: Yeah but for better or worse?
PAUL: There's only one way to find out, isn't there.
He takes his phone out to make a call, smiling at Terese.
