Harold's Café/Number 28
Pierce finds Chloe looking gloomy and apologises for crashing the double date earlier. He only wants the best for Chloe and Elly. But Chloe says Pierce was right - being with Elly wasn't like she thought it would be. She understands now she'll never be a priority in Elly's life now she's pregnant. Chloe offers Pierce one "I told you so", but Pierce says he'd never do that.
Meanwhile, Bea brings up the awkwardness of Chloe calling Elly her girlfriend, but Elly believes they've talked things through and they'll be fine now they're on the same wavelength. Bea can't help but ask if Elly actually wants to be in a relationship with Chloe, but Elly insists their connection is strong.
Lassiters Complex
Terese ends a call with one of the Cannings, assuring them Sheila's shifts are covered at the pub. Roxy saunters over and asks Terese to shout her a coffee since money's tight at work after the theft. Roxy's in a sour mood but Terese says if she's going to put blame anyone it should be Vance. Roxy reckons she could rough some information out of her ex on Carly's whereabouts if she were left to her own devices, but Terese suggests they just leave the police work to the professionals.
Number 24
Mark's planning on a quiet night in for his 36th birthday, especially since he's worked on Sheila's disappearance, sorted out Finn's house arrest and had a full-on chat with Chloe already today. But Aaron and David have other ideas - ideas that include partying and the worst innuendo I think I've ever heard Aaron utter.
AARON: Tonight we are going to hit the town, we're gonna burn up that dance floor, and you, sir, you are gonna collect vertically.
MARK: I'm gonna what?
AARON: You're gonna pick up!
MARK: Oh my goodness.
DAVID: (cringing) Please don't make that a thing.
Wingman Aaron will not be deterred and encourages Mark to take a shower. But Mark already has a date with a doctor... Doctor Who.
MARK: I'm going to watch Kerblam! again, try and get over my bubble wrap phobia.
But Aaron won't take no for an answer and Mark's forced to go out.
Lassiters Complex
Terese overhears Pierce on what appears to be a tense phone call with someone, saying things like, "Sorry, I don't know what else to do" and "What did you do last time?" Pierce hangs up when he notices Terese looking. She offers to lend an ear if he needs a chat, but Pierce says he doesn't want to discuss whatever's troubling him.
Number 28
Elly suggests a movie night to Chloe but then notices she's upset about something. Chloe says she's been thinking about what the future might look like for them - babies, careers, Huntington's. Elly reminds her she needs time to process everything, but Chloe doesn't think Elly can afford the time right now.
CHLOE: You've got more important things to get your head around.
ELLY: What are you saying?
CHLOE: Our friendship is so important to me, and I never want that to be ruined. So we need to end this.
Elly asks if this is about her pregnancy, but Chloe says it's about everything. Elly's shocked by Chloe's decision, especially since she thought they'd cleared the air a few hours ago.
ELLY: We were working. You have been so amazing. Chloe, this connection, it's more than just friendship.
CHLOE: Pre-baby things might have been different. But now the timing's off. Your priorities are about to change, they already have.
ELLY: Come on, we have to at least try. We have something so special.
Chloe looks like she wants to cry. She places her hand over Elly's.
CHLOE: We're never going to get to where I want us to be. And life is only going to get harder for both of us. We need to quit while we're ahead.
ELLY: I hope you don't feel like I ever used you.
CHLOE: No, never.
ELLY: I'm sorry I didn't turn out to be the person you wanted me to be.
Both Elly and Chloe look upset at how things have turned out.
Number 24
Aaron and David are happy to see Mark has changed out of his trackies, but the mood sobers when Chloe stops by and tells them she called things off with Elly. Chloe knows this whole thing has been hard for Mark and he's probably relieved he doesn't have to see them together anymore. But Mark hugs Chloe and tells her she'll be okay. He invites her along to the Back Lane Bar with them and Chloe figures an outing would be better than wallowing in her own misery.
Number 28
Elly tells the #28 crew about the break up. Finn hopes it had nothing to do with what he said during the double date, but Elly says it was Chloe's decision. Elly's downtrodden because she didn't see it coming and feels like an idiot, but Bea says she can't blame herself. Elly adds that she doesn't regret anything, she just hopes she didn't mess Chloe around again. Susan tells Elly she was genuine, they could all see that. Karl asks if they parted on good terms and Elly nods, saying they intend to stay friends. Elly thanks them all for the chat and Bea offers to play some of her new music for her as a distraction.
Back Lane Bar
Leo's pleased to see everyone and says birthday drinks are on him, but Aaron and David insist they'll be paying customers to help with the cash flow. Aaron asks "Robocop" what he wants to drink, but when Mark says water everyone bags him out. Mark's not really in the partying mood, especially in a bar full of strangers, but Leo fixes that by pausing the music and encouraging the patrons to wish the birthday boy well. Aaron can't help throwing in that his brother is single and ready to mingle. Mark sighs and calls his family idiots but Aaron just laughs and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
Later, Leo tells Roxy he's halved the wine list and cut out all the tequila to save on costs for a while, which doesn't sit well with Roxy 'drink away all the profits' Willis. She's also channelling all her anger towards Mark (or as she calls him, "Bore and order"), wondering why he's out celebrating instead of finding their money. Leo reminds her Mark's off the clock, but Roxy doesn't care. Mark walks over and asks for another round of drinks but Roxy rudely cuts him off and says she doesn't serve lazy pigs. Mark's like, 'I changed out of my trackies for this?!'
Number 28
Bea talks Elly out of sending a text to Chloe, reminding her the two of them need some space to reflect and "calm the waters". The sisters are just about to listen to Bea's new song material when Finn interrupts to ask for Bea's help. He wants her input on something music related for the foundation. Bea's at odds because she already said she'd hang out with Elly, but then says maybe all three of them could work together. Elly agrees but doesn't look impressed at the turn of events.
Back Lane Bar
Chloe notices Pierce sitting alone at the bar and goes over to chat. He tells her he's trying to get back into the dating game. Chloe thanks him for their chat earlier and lets Pierce know she broke things off with Elly. Pierce says he's sorry to hear it and thinks it's good Chloe's out for the night to take her mind off things. Chloe invites him to come and join them for Mark's birthday - just as Pierce receives a text that says, 'Call me ASAP'. Pierce ignores the text and decides to join Chloe instead.
Number 28
Elly asks Susan and Karl if they've noticed that Bea tends to give in to Finn and do whatever he wants. Susan thinks it's probably to do with the fact that it's a new relationship, but Elly thinks it's a bigger issue than that.
ELLY: I think they're co-dependent.
SUSAN: Are you still upset with Finn because he doubted you and Chloe?
ELLY: Yes but that's not what this is about.
SUSAN: Maybe not even a little bit?
ELLY: No it's got nothing to do with it. I think that he's not letting her be independent.
KARL: Well if that's your take on it, Susan and I can keep a closer eye out.
SUSAN: (not convinced) Sure, but I don't think Bea's gone into this blindly. She and Finn have put a lot of work into the relationship. Maybe we just have to respect their decision and give them a fair go.
Judging by the look on Elly's face it appears as though she is going to do the exact opposite of that.
Back Lane Bar
Mark tells Aaron and David he thinks he should go and clear the air with Roxy as "community perception" is important in police work. The boys think Mark should focus his energy on the two women making eyes at him across the room, but Mark doesn't listen and heads to the bar. Roxy's in complete brat mode and barely listens to Mark as he explains the police are doing all they can to retrieve the money. She pumps the music up to drown Mark out, but Leo intervenes, unimpressed with her attitude. Aaron tries to steer Mark away before things get more out of hand, but Roxy takes it upon herself to throw a drink all over Mark's jeans like the mature 3-year-old she is.
Later in the night when the bar looks empty, Leo gives Roxy a talking to while she mops up the floor. He says if she wants out of the bar then he'll start looking for someone to buy her share. Roxy retorts she doesn't want out, she just wants her money back so they can buy more tequila.
LEO: You've got to stop blaming the people who are actually trying to help us. You need to go and tell Mark you're sorry.
ROXY: The only thing that I'm sorry about is that there wasn't more drink in that glass.
Leo again tries to insist Roxy apologises to Mark, but Roxy grabs her purse, a bottle of booze and says "Constable Clueless" isn't getting anything from her. Leo's whole body practically sighs with weariness.
Number 32 Backyard
Chloe and Pierce are sitting with their feet in the pool while David and Aaron are in the water. Chloe's laughing at Pierce because he offered to swap pants with Mark after Roxy ruined them. The boys notice Chloe smiling again and go over to speak with her after Pierce excuses himself to take a call (from Ebony, hmm...). Chloe shuts down the 'oooh you two are getting along well' smirks before they even begin.
CHLOE: We're friends.
AARON: Yeah friends with a history of benefits. Not that long ago you were keen to try again.
Annoyed, Chloe tells her brother to calm down. She doesn't want to think about that because then her mind goes to Elly. Aaron feels bad and tells her to forget he said anything. Pierce returns and pretends the call was about nothing, and Aaron leaps out of the pool to go and check on Mark.
Number 24
Mark is only wearing his boxers when Aaron stops by to apologise for "tanking" on the whole wingman thing. Mark doesn't seem too concerned and says it's okay. Aaron gives Mark a hug before he leaves and there's a moment of silence... before Roxy pops up from her hiding place on the couch, half undressed. Her and Mark grin at one another and Roxy says, "Now, where were we?" before they start kissing.
Coming up on Neighbours
ROXY: I don't want to talk about it.
MARK: Then what are you doing here?
Karl and Susan chat in the Lassiters Complex.
KARL: What are the chances of two ex-wives showing up so close to the wedding?
Paul sees a packed suitcase next to Terese.
PAUL: What's this?
Chloe and Elly are having a tough time adjusting back to 'normal'.
ELLY: Chloe's free to date whoever she wants.
CHLOE: It's so easy for her to snap back into friends-mode.
Pierce seeks Elly out for a chat.
PIERCE: I can't just stand back and say nothing.
