Toadie is with Karl, who's surprised that Heather has agreed to hypnosis. Toadie says Heather wants answers just as much as they do; she was also baffled by the DNA results.
KARL: Do you think she could be playing one of her games?
TOADIE: Hmm, could be - but I dunno. It feels different.
KARL: Right. Well, is there a possibility she gave Dee away and just doesn't want to admit to it?
TOADIE: Well, anything's possible. But if that were true, there's no advantage in her hiding it. She believes that she gave birth to one baby at Perth General, but there is no record.
KARL: So, you think that somehow she's just forgotten what happened?
TOADIE: Well, it would explain why she's so confused about having had twins. And then there's this memory of the redheaded woman that both Dee and Andrea recall. Maybe there's something in it, but maybe there's not - I dunno. We just need to find out more.
KARL: Yeah. Beverly can help with that... I saw Dee at home before. She... she seems quite overwhelmed.
TOADIE: Well, wouldn't you be? It's like finding out you're related to the Mansons!
KARL: Yeah, but is she ready to get the full story?
TOADIE: I think it's the not knowing that's worse. Makes me sick knowing that she's Heather's daughter, but she is. We just have to find out how this happened.

Terese and Harlow are eating cake, while Harlow shares her opinions about Roxy.
HARLOW: Roxy is just attention-seeking. It's textbook behaviour. She's a malignant narcissist who only cares about herself.
Terese laughs, but Harlow doesn't look like she's joking.
TERESE: Don't hold back!
HARLOW: Look - she's not beyond hope, but the worst thing you can do is indulge her.
TERESE: You know what? I'm wondering what somebody as insightful as you must be thinking of your grandfather after today's antics.
HARLOW: He's going to take longer to peg.
TERESE: And me, for marrying him?
HARLOW: You obviously love him. And you don't seem surprised by what he did to Gary and Amy.
TERESE: Well, I tell myself, 'better the devil you know'.
Harlow smiles. Terese gets a phone call from Roxy.
TERESE: Whoa, whoa - stop, slow down. What?
Erinsborough Hospital
Roxy is in the waiting area, looking upset. Terese bursts in, followed by Aaron, Harlow and Leo. Roxy claims that she heard Paul yelling, but by the time she got to him, 'the man, or whoever it was' was running off.
LEO: Did you get a look at him?
ROXY: It was dark. Paul was out cold (...)
HARLOW: So you didn't get a good look, but did you see anything?
ROXY: Like I said, it was just someone running in the other direction.
HARLOW: You could tell it was a man, though?
ROXY: I mean, I... yeah, I think. I dunno. It's just... it's all a bit of a blur.
David emerges to give them all an update.
DAVID: They're working to stabilise him now. There's a blow to the head, which was quite severe (...) as well as some internal bleeding and some broken ribs (...) They're prepping him for surgery, so I don't know much more. Except that he's in the best hands.
LEO: Who would do this to him?

Cut to Gary looking shifty. Sheila asks him when he got home; he says a while ago and asks what's up. An upset Amy explains that Paul has been attacked, and that everyone's at the hospital. Gary offers to go with Amy, but she says no - she'll call him later.
As Amy leaves, Kyle comes in. He asks Sheila if they know who's behind the attack. She looks shifty as Gary walks out of the room, and admits that she's wondering where Gary was tonight. Kyle reluctantly admits that Gary had a barney with Paul at the pub earlier.
SHEILA: And what happened then? Did you leave together?
KYLE: No, he went for a walk.
SHEILA: Oh, and that would've been around the time that Paul got attacked! Gary was so angry at me - what if he's done something stupid? I've driven him to it!
KYLE: Gran, give him the benefit of the doubt. It's the least you can do.
Goodwood Prison
Beverly is back! Like the pro she is, she's making sure that Heather is absolutely comfortable and consenting before their hypnosis session begins - while Toadie and Karl observe.
HEATHER: Yeah. I'm gonna do it for Jarrod.
BEV: And you understand the implications? And you consent to Dr Kennedy and Mr Rebecchi being present?
HEATHER: Yeah.
BEV: Alright, let's begin. Close your eyes and relax... You've reached the final door. This is where you've come to have your baby. What do you see?
HEATHER: Gartside Women's Shelter.
BEV: You're at a shelter?
HEATHER: Can't go to hospital - can't give them my name. Don't let them find me, please.
BEV: It's okay, you're safe. Go on inside, and tell me what you see.
HEATHER: I dunno... I feel dizzy... I'm hot... It hurts.
BEV: Are you having contractions?
HEATHER: Uhh... I'm calming down. I'm calming down... Please, I'm scared...
BEV: You're okay. You're lying down now, Heather - you're safe and protected.
But Heather begins to sob.
BEV: Who's with you? ... Who can you see?
HEATHER: Ah! I've had my baby!
BEV: You need to go back, Heather. Remember the birth.
HEATHER: Nah. Can't. All done. It's all done... Hang on... There's someone next to the bed. She's holding my baby.
BEV: Who is it?
HEATHER: She's holding my little girl. But she's not like the *mean* nuns. She's... young. She's like me. She's... she's got red hair...
Toadie and Karl look concerned.
Erinsborough Hospital
Terese, Amy, Leo, Aaron, Roxy and Harlow continue to wait for news on Paul. Leo asks what time Paul left the house - Terese says around three or three-thirty, to go and look for Roxy. Terese pointedly says that Paul saw Roxy earlier in the day; Leo remarks that it's a good thing Roxy was passing by. An ashen-looking Roxy agrees.
David emerges; he reports that the surgery went well, and Paul's bleeding has stopped. A CT scan has shown that there doesn't seem to be any serious damage, but they'll have to monitor him overnight, to make sure the swelling on his brain settles. Terese asks if they can see him; David says yes, but one at a time. Terese goes in first.
A worried-looking Roxy walks out, claiming she needs some air. Harlow looks suspicious; but Leo says Roxy's in shock, as it must have been traumatic finding Paul like that.
In Paul's room, an emotional Terese tells a sleeping Paul to 'please be okay'...
TERESE: I love you so much.
She kisses him on the forehead, and Paul begins to wake up...

Toadie is reporting back to Dee about the hypnosis session, and how it revealed that Heather actually gave birth in a refuge for at-risk women.
DEE: She said she gave birth in a hospital. She gave us all those details.
TOADIE: Beverly said it's not uncommon for people who've gone through a traumatic event to actually create an alternate version of it.
Goodwood Prison
Karl has stayed behind to look after a confused Heather.
HEATHER: You're saying... I blocked out the real birth?
KARL: Mm. To dissociate yourself from the truth. It's a coping mechanism.
HEATHER: Yeah, but... I still... I only remember having one baby - Andie.
No 28
Toadie reports to Dee that, even under hypnosis, Heather couldn't recall giving birth to her - just Andrea.
TOADIE: We'll keep investigating; we'll figure it out.
Goodwood Prison
Heather tells Karl that surely she'd remember if she was having two babies.
KARL: Well, your check-ups must have been part of the delusion. If you can remember anything else from that period...
HEATHER: Gartside Women's Shelter... and the lovely nun. That's all I remember.
No 28
Dee asks if the 'lovely nun' in question is the same woman that she and Andrea met as children.
TOADIE: Well, the red hair makes you wonder.
DEE: Yeah. Do you think my parents knew? I mean, were they involved?
TOADIE: Oh, I can't really speculate.
Dee is getting emotional.
DEE: She came to see me. How could they not be involved?
TOADIE: I gave Mark a call on the way over. He's looking into the shelter.
Goodwood Prison
Heather is in tears again.
HEATHER: It's just all such a mess!

Dee is still talking to Toadie.
DEE: So, Heather's my mother, and Andrea's my sister. So, in a weird way, we're all victims, aren't we?
Erinsborough Hospital
Mark is on the phone to someone, asking for 'her mobile number', as he'd 'like to speak to her'.
Meanwhile, Paul is now fully awake, and surrounded by Terese, Amy, David and Leo. David tells Paul that all his scans are clear; everyone is relieved.
PAUL (to Amy): So where's that thug boyfriend of yours?
AMY: I hope you're not implying -
But at that moment Mark comes in, to take Paul's statement.
PAUL: Ah. About time you got here (...) I want everyone to hear this.
MARK: Did you see who attacked you?
PAUL: No - didn't need to.
MARK: We think you were struck with a blunt object.
PAUL: Yeah. That sounds about right for that goon.
MARK: Who are you referring to?
PAUL: Oh, come on, Mark. It could only have been one person - Gary Canning.
Amy looks angry, but conflicted...

Gary is having breakfast. Sheila thinks he should go to the hospital; he sullenly replies that he's texting Amy - there's nothing more he can do.
SHEILA: But aren't you worried about how it looks? I mean, you not being there with her?
GARY: No.
Amy comes in, with Mark.
GARY: Here we go.
AMY: I told him you had nothing to do with this.
MARK: Gary, you were at The Waterhole last night, around 6pm.
GARY: Yep. And I had an argument with Paul. But I'm sure you already know that.
MARK: Where did you go after that?
GARY: ... Went for a walk.
SHEILA: But he was here later on - I can vouch for that.
MARK: From what time?
SHEILA: Uh, I dunno - around seven?
Mark asks Gary if anyone could verify seeing him on his walk. Gary says Mark should wait till Paul wakes up and tells him what happened.
AMY: He is awake, Gary. He's saying you attacked him. But he didn't see the person, so he's just assuming.
MARK: Still, you are a person of interest.
GARY: Yeah. And that scumbag's lying about me, again!
Mark gets a phone call and goes off to take it - telling Gary that if he thinks of anyone he saw on the walk, to let him know.
MARK (on the phone): Hey... did you get that number? ... You're kidding! ... Great, thanks.
No 28
Karl and Dee are also having breakfast.
KARL: I never thought I'd feel sorry for Heather.
DEE: It was very kind of you to comfort her.
KARL: She's desperate to see Andrea. Knowing she's there, under the same roof, but they're apart - it's very hard on her.
Toadie appears; he's been on the phone to Mark.
DEE: Did he hear back from the shelter?
TOADIE: Yeah. There was actually quite a lot of information on file. There were a number of women that gave birth there around the same time that Heather would've - all women outside of the healthcare system.
KARL: Was this place part of a church?
TOADIE: No, no - but there were a number of nuns that volunteered there, and Mark managed to track down the one that Heather described - Sister Grace.
DEE: Oh! So, can we speak to her?
TOADIE: Yes - in person. She's gonna meet us at the police station (...) She's on her way.
DEE: No, no, actually, it shouldn't be the police station (...) It needs to be at the prison.
TOADIE: Oh, no - hang on. I don't think we need to involve Heather just yet.
DEE: I want to involve Andrea, too.
TOADIE: Are you sure?!
DEE: Toad, this didn't just happen to me; it happened to them as well. And if we're gonna hear this story, we need to hear it together.
Toadie looks unconvinced...
Erinsborough Hospital
Aaron and Harlow convene with Roxy outside the hospital. Aaron asks if it's true that Paul is blaming Gary; Roxy confirms that this is what Auntie T has told her.
At this point, Gary himself pulls up in a car, and marches towards them. He's fuming that Paul has accused him of the attack, and demands to know which floor Paul is on. (Come off it, Gary, you know there's only one floor!) Aaron tries to persuade him not to cause a scene, but Gary 'just wants to see his lying face'.
GARY: I can't do nothing.
AARON: Well, if you haven't got anything to hide, Gary, maybe that's what you should be doing!
GARY: But he's told half the world it was me! You don't believe him, do you?
AARON: ...
GARY: Oh, yeah, great (!)
AARON: Gary, I didn't say I did. It's just, look, with your record - you just need to be smart, okay? And going up there and blasting Paul - that's not smart!
GARY: So, what am I supposed to do? Just let him get away with it?
AARON: Look, he's probably not thinking straight. Gary, if you want to win people's trust back, how about you try and have a little bit of sympathy?
GARY: Sympathy?! Are you kidding?! That guy deserves everything he's got coming to him! You know, the only thing that I'm sorry about is that I didn't do it.
Roxy is observing all this carefully...
Goodwood Prison
Andrea is let into the visiting area, where Heather is already waiting - and the pair share a hug and a very emotional reunion.
ANDREA: Mum!
HEATHER: Oh, pumpkin! Oh, I missed you!
ANDREA: Are you okay?
Noticing that Dee and Toadie have come in, Andrea dries her eyes to maintain her bad girl persona! With Dee and Toadie is a red-haired woman - Sister Grace.
SISTER GRACE: It's been almost forty years, Heather...
HEATHER: Oh, my god. Yeah, I... yeah, I remember you! That... that's her. You were there. They reckon I had two babies. Tell them. Tell them they're wrong.
SISTER GRACE: Not a day goes past when I don't think of you all. When I heard that you were together, well, I thought, I can't keep this a secret any longer.
HEATHER: What secret?
TOADIE: Maybe you could start by explaining what happened when Heather arrived at the shelter.
SISTER GRACE: You were in a bad way. We tried to get you to go to hospital, but you refused.
TOADIE: Well, Heather was most likely in trouble with the law.
SISTER GRACE: We never knew any of the details. We only ever wanted to help. You went into labour that night. You were delirious. You obviously had no idea that you were carrying twins... My superior - Sister Mildred, who is no longer with us - she thought she was doing the right thing.
HEATHER: Wait, wait - what happened to my other baby?
SISTER GRACE: It was a young couple - the Bliss family. You were struggling, Heather; you were in no position to look after even one. Sister Mildred felt that it was for the best.
DEE: My parents... my adoptive family... did they know about this?
SISTER GRACE: Sister Mildred... told them that Heather agreed.
HEATHER (furious): I never! I never would have! I didn't even know she existed!
Heather bursts into tears.
HEATHER: Oh, my god!
SISTER GRACE: It all happened so quickly, and they were a good family.
HEATHER: They were good and I was bad, so you gave them my baby?! Oh my -
Heather breaks into more sobs, and a tearful Andrea comforts her.
SISTER GRACE: I was always worried. That's why I kept tabs on you both when you were little.
ANDREA: Oh, yeah, I remember you coming around, like, once.
SISTER GRACE: Several times. But mostly, I watched from afar. (to Dee) I could be a little more open with your parents, and I saw that they were giving you a wonderful life.
HEATHER (furious): No! You wrecked *all* of our lives! That's what you did!
TOADIE: What you all did was a crime.
SISTER GRACE: I know. And I'm prepared to accept any consequences coming my way.
Sister Grace leaves, to give a statement to Mark who is waiting outside. Andrea continues to comfort a very distressed Heather; and Dee, who's distressed herself by the spectacle, takes Toadie's hand in comfort.

Toadie asks Dee if she's glad she found out the truth.
DEE: ... I've been running away from things for a long time. And I can't run away from this... It's just so sad.
TOADIE: I'm sorry for what Heather and Andrea went through. But what's actually got me really worried is you feeling connected to them.
DEE: Well, how could I not? They're my family. Their life has been horrible. I mean, that could've been my life.
TOADIE: Yeah, but it wasn't.
DEE: ... You can't say their experiences haven't played into who they've become and the things they've done. I'm not for a moment... I'm not for a *moment* excusing what they've done to you and Sonya.
TOADIE: And you. Andrea tried to kill you.
DEE: And Heather found me. And took care of me.
Toadie laughs incredulously.
DEE: I saw how damaged she was in Byron, okay? Her problems go way back, long before the trauma of the birth. And my biological father - who is he? Why did he abandon us? I mean, do I even want to ask those questions?
TOADIE: Yeah. It's a lot to take in, isn't it?
DEE: I feel like every time I have an answer, more questions pop up.
TOADIE: Well, you don't have to make any decisions about anything just yet.
DEE: No... Thank you.
TOADIE: What for? All I'm doing is listening.
DEE: You're helping me rebuild my life. And no matter what happens, I'll always be grateful for that.
Toadie hugs her.
Erinsborough Hospital
Terese is sitting with Paul, when Roxy comes in to see how he's doing.
PAUL: I have been better. Anyway, I guess I should be thankful that you called an ambulance.
ROXY: Oh, well, it was the least that I could do.
TERESE: Look, just so you know - Paul told me what you tried on yesterday.
ROXY: I thought that he would. I'm sorry. What I did was next-level stupid.
PAUL: Yeah - Roxy, listen - when you found me, did you see Gary around?
TERESE: She's already given her statement to the police, Paul.
Mark walks in at this point.
PAUL: Did you see him? Cos it can't have been anyone else.
ROXY: I did.
TERESE: What? Hang on - that's not what you told the police before.
MARK: Roxy?
ROXY: ... I was too scared to say anything before, but I saw the whole thing. It was Gary that attacked you.
Paul looks somewhat happier than his current state of health justifies!
