Lassiters Complex
Dipi wants to have a serious conversation with her sister - she can't believe that Mishti has decided to go with the first guy she met through the website. Mishti thinks that the fact Pavan is great and they both like him is enough. "We barely know him and neither do you," Dipi points out backed up by Shane. "Yeah we may be strangers but we're compatible," Mishti retaliates with along with the fact they are both singing from the same hymn sheet, "the rest can we found out later."
DIPI: Wow, this is insane!
SHANE: Okay, I think what Dipi means is that marriage isn't just about the big stuff, it's also about the small things that make people compatible.
Dipi then declares that she knows what her sister should do and getting on her phone, calls Susan to seek her help.
The Waterhole
Susan is trying to get to know her newly found sister-in-law by asking about her children. However, Jemima isn't in the mood to expand on anything more that she doesn't talk to her kids after a falling out. She is though willing to teach Sheila to speed-read - she only came over to take their order, but Jemima found out about her studying for her VCE during the small talk and despite Susan trying to get Sheila to say no, Sheila is keen for the help.
"Good choice," Karl says diplomatically when Jemima announces she's forgotten her purse and after Karl says they will cover the bill, orders the expensive seafood pasta. Unseen by Jemima, Susan can't but roll her eyes!
The Flametree Retreat
Mishti suggests to Pavan that they do a marriage compatibility test - she's not backing out but feels that it will help them find out more things about each other. "Okay," he replies, and they agree to do the test with Susan first thing in the morning.
Mishti heads off, passing Gary and Amy on the way out of the reception - she's got an idea for him to raise the revenue, a food cart outside The Shed and not just volunteering to help, she's cleared it with Paul too.
The Waterhole
Paul properly introduces himself to Jemima when she is at the bar seeking wine advice from Sheila. Its Susan that comes to the bar to pay for the wine as Jemima has no cash. Paul is curious to know more about her new sister-in-law and she describes her as "a freeloader" and thinks she is conning Karl who is oblivious to what is going on and will get his heart broken.
SHEILA: So the great man is related to a freeloader...who knew!
Susan also thinks she is hiding something and Sheila volunteers to find out what that is. "That's not necessary," Susan replies but Sheila's mindset is that she is helping
PAUL: Nobody asked for your help Sheila.
SHEILA: And nobody asked for your opinion bags. When it comes to Jemima, I know exactly what to do.
Penthouse suite
Amy is surprised to see Rob appear when she is having a girly chat with Elly. Elly excuses herself to look at the view and Rob explains the reason for his visit - he knows she has tomorrow off and has bought them tickets for an afternoon of swing dancing. Amy has plans, so has to turn his offer down - he is suss that this isn't the first time she's said no to a date. "I know, it's just life it's really busy," she explains and reassures him that she is interested in him after he was fearful she'd gone off him.
Elly can't believe she turned Rob down after she joins her friend on the balcony after he leaves. Amy doesn't want to let Gary down and she adds that if Rob is serious about her, he will wait.
Number 28 (next day)
The K's and Jemima receive an early morning visitor - Sheila, keen to get her speed reading training underway. Jemima heads off to get dressed and Karl thanks her for making his sister's day by asking for the help. When he too heads off to get dressed, Susan quietly asks Sheila what she is up to. Sheila's plan is during the lesson, she will get on her good side and thus she'll reveal her entire agenda without realising it!
SUSAN: Sheila, whatever you do, please just be subtle.
SHEILA: Susan, subtle is my middle name!
Harold's café
Pavan isn't too happy the test is being conducted in the café where Dipi can spy on them! "Don't worry, she won't bother us," Mishti reassures him with before they get started. First question is would she take on their debt but before she even replies, there is an 'I need to tell you something' moment from Pavan.
PAVAN: Yes, we've got a lot to talk about.
The Shed
The food cart is set up and proving popular enough among the users for Gary to leave Amy running it while he heads back to the retreat. However, Elly appears and literally forces Amy to go on her date as she will cover the cart instead. Gary doesn't look too happy that she has bailed to go on her date.
The Waterhole (exterior)
Sheila wastes no time in subtly questioning Jemima and first is why she isn't working - apparently, she is perpetuity between jobs and is in no rush to get one. She is full of praise for her brother's generosity, despite the rumour, unlike Susan. Despite Susan's warning, Jemima has seen right through Sheila's guise but adds that they both have something in common - Susan looks down on them both.
SHEILA: I suppose she can be a bit judgey.
Jemima concedes that although she and Susan are from very different worlds, she would like them to be friends and wonders if Sheila could facilitate that by giving her "the A-Z of what I'm up against."
Harold's café
Pavan's secret is he was a gambler, something that is forbidden for Sikhs - he took some stupid risks that resulted in him losing a lot of money, so he'd to fess up to his parents. They weren't happy and once the debt was paid off, they kicked him out and the only way to get back into their fold was to agree to arranging a marriage.
MISHTI: So you're in this for your family?
"No," he replies although admits it started out that way until he realised that it was a great idea for himself.
PAVAN: I'm done with making stupid mistakes. I just want some stability in my life. I hope after hearing all this, you'll still want to marry me.
MISHTI: I can accept your past if you'll accept mine.
"You did nothing wrong," he reassures Mishti with and it is her turn to open up to him over going to the dark place after Zander died. He is shocked at her full admission (about wanting to shoot who killed Zander) and announces that he needs to take a break and can't get out of the café quick enough!
The Waterhole
Shane jovial asks if Mishti found all of Pavan's secrets after she sits herself down at the bar. She confirms she has and then tells him about Pavan's reaction on hearing her dark secret.
MISHTI: It was stupid to think that he'd ever want anyone as complicated as me.
Shane points out the obvious - if Pavan can't accept what happened, then they don't really have a future. Mishti is torn as the longer they spend together, the more she feels that it could work out between them.
MISHTI: It's all up to him now.
The Waterhole (exterior)
Jemima and Sheila have bonded over the fact Susan looks down on them!
Susan looks rather peeved at what she's seen and remarks that "they seem to be getting along very well," when she and Karl pause begore walking down the side of the bar towards where the ladies are sitting. They join the ladies and Karl seems chuffed at how well the lesson has gone, so much so that he wonders if he needs a lesson himself!
JEMIMA: Of course the really important thing is learning to read between the lines.
Harold's café
Dipi spots Pavan entering the store and wants Yashvi to spy on them so she knows what is happening but the lass refuses to do that!
"Sorry for bailing on you," Pavan greets Mishti with, admitting that there was a lot to take on board. "I understand," Mishti acknowledges and he cannot imagine all she went through, adding that it's her life experience which is intimidating.
PAVAN: You're an impressive woman Mishti, and I am more sure than ever that I want to commit to you.
MISHTI: So it's happening, we're getting married?!
With that decided, she wants to meet his family and he plans on beginning to find employment in Melbourne.
"You are joking," Dipi remarks despondently once the pair kiss - she thought they were going to call the engagement off. "Look, you're going to have to accept that this is happening," Yashvi tells her mum while giving her a hug.
The Shed
Gary stops by to see how Elly is going (business is booming) although she seems more interested in Amy's date with Dr Rob.
GARY: Let's hope he's as good as everyone seems to think he is, Amy deserves nothing less.
Penthouse suite
Rob nervously waits in the livingroom for Amy to come out.
The Shed
"They're just going to make such a good couple aren't they," Elly asks, and Gary gives a non-committal response.
Penthouse suite
Rob's chin just about hits the floor when Amy comes out and sees what she is wearing (think a 50s style dress). "You're gorgeous," he tells her before they get a spot of dance practice in.
The Shed
Gary has heard enough of Elly talking about Amy and Rob that he tries to change the conversation! He tries to ignore Elly telling him that she thinks Amy has found the man of her dreams.
Harold's café
"Sounds like it all went well," Dipi opens up with when she comes over to join her sister at a table. "I know what I'm doing with this marriage," Mishti informs her and almost begrudgingly, Dipi tells her sister that she will support her.
DIPI: I don't understand it, but I hope it works out.
Mishti thanks her sister for suggesting the test, explaining that it helped them talk honestly with each other. "Must have been hard though, discussing everything from the past," Dipi comments and Mishti confesses that there is something she hasn't told him - the video Dilhan took of her. She admits that she will tell him... just not yet because she isn't ready.
The newly arrived Karl and Susan argue over whether Sheila is right in her take about Jemima and Karl is quick to tell his wife that just because Jemima has a few freebies, "it doesn't make her a scammer." Naturally, Susan thinks otherwise and asks that they keep their eyes open. Karl agrees as he simply wants to get to know his sister "without the tension." Susan concedes to stop the questioning and will welcome her to the family.
KARL: It's all I ask.
Lassiters foyer
Jemima is on the phone asking someone to find out what properly Karl, Susan or their family own. She quickly ends the call when she spots Paul. However, she might not have ended the call so quickly when she hears what he says - he's done some digging and knows the porkies she has been telling! "Whatever do you mean?" she innocently replies.
PAUL: Come on Jemima, no point in hiding it any more. I know who you really are.
