Number 30/Ramsay Street
Sonya's visibly upset and wants to know what an "on hold" timeframe means for their IVF - months or years - but Toadie isn't sure.
SONYA: It could take us so long to conceive we can't put it off.
TOADIE: I know how much this means to you... uh, to us. It's just I can't do this. Not all at once, not right now.
SONYA: What does that actually mean 'not right now'? Does that mean never?
TOADIE: No it doesn't mean never.
But Sonya is too angry and upset to continue the conversation and leaves the house to pick up Nell from day care. While Sonya's out the front of the house, she pauses a moment to collect her thoughts, completely overwhelmed by everything.
The Waterhole
Leo catches up with Ned and asks how the new job's going. Ned's not entirely enthused with the role but is grateful to Terese for putting a roof over his head.
NED: She's a good woman.
LEO: Yeah, but a lonely one.
NED: ... OK?
LEO: She told me, but that's why I'm going to set her up with dad.
NED: Why?
LEO: Terese has been good to me too and, I don't know, it's a way of saying thanks.
NED: Buy her a box of chocolates! Paul and Terese, haven't they been there done that?
LEO: Mate that's unfinished business, and now Gary's out of the picture they might have a chance to work it out.
NED: If you say so.
LEO: Dad just has to show his vulnerable side.
NED: Does he have one?
Leo ropes Ned into coming to the Lassiter's work drinks later then he'll be able to see the more vulnerable side to Paul himself. Ned's not at all excited by this prospect.
Lassiter's Complex
Sonya sits on a bench with Nell and says they're going to have a picnic, but Nell just wants to go home and see Hugo. David stops by to say hello and notices that Sonya's in no hurry to go home. He offers to take Nell back with him - he's on his way to Aaron's for their dance lessons. Sonya gratefully accepts.
Leo walks and talks with Terese out the front of the pub, letting her know about the pool competition he's putting on for the Lassiter's employees. He gets her attention by saying it's good for management to put in some face time with the staff - then compliments her on her pool shark skills. Terese smiles: she's in.
Dipi and Mishti are observing Sonya standing by herself over by the lake. They both feel sympathy towards her and Toadie and Mishti says they'll be there for both of them.
DIPI: As long as you don't use them as an excuse to ignore yourself.
MISHTI: Of course not, I'm fine.
DIPI: Mish you fired a gun in our house, there's no way you'd do something like that if you weren't feeling stressed.
MISHTI: Yeah I know but I feel like I'm finally getting back on track.
Dipi then has to dash off to her dance lessons with Aaron and David. Mishti asks if the boys are going to get the "Dipi special" and Dipi says it's gonna be the works.
Number 24
Aaron and David are rearranging the furniture for the their lessons. David's worried about looking like a fool, especially since Aaron has a dance background, but Aaron says that's like "comparing Magic Mike to Strictly Ballroom". Dipi arrives and the boys are keen to start busting a move but Dipi says no one is actually dancing today. Their first theory lesson is all about the history of dance!
The Waterhole
Sonya's found Paul and updated him on the Toadie and Hugo situation. She then asks Paul to use his contacts to track Andrea down again because they cannot keep the baby. It's putting too much stress on their lives.
PAUL: Sonya I appreciate where you're coming from but have you actually thought this through? Even if we find Andrea what happens then?
SONYA: We'll come to some kind of arrangement with her.
PAUL: She gave the baby away! Do you honestly think that Toadie is going to be happy with her raising his son?
SONYA: By the time we find her she will have got her life together.
PAUL: I'm afraid that's wishful thinking.
SONYA: I know that Jarrod's always going to want some involvement with Hugo, but we just can't go putting our lives on hold.
PAUL: All right well here's a thought, have you considered that Andrea may actually move in around the corner so that she can raise him with Toadie? How would you feel about that?
SONYA: I don't know what to do.
PAUL: I think it's time for some risk assessment. You have to weigh up inviting Andrea back into your lives versus loving that baby as if he was your own.
Later on in the pub, the Lassiter's pool comp has begun. Terese is playing a round against Ned while Paul and Leo watch from the bar. Leo says how much of a shark Terese is and then cons his dad into playing pool by goading him about his rusty skills.
Number 24
Dipi is droning on and on about the history of the waltz while Aaron and David sit on the couch half-heartedly listening. The boys are saved when Mishti arrives to tell Dipi there's been an emergency with the scavenger hunt clues - all of them have been printed with an error. Dipi rushes out but Mishti confesses to the boys she lied to save them from the "Dipi special". She experienced it first hand when her and Zander took dance lessons for their wedding. Mishti then offers to teach them a few simple steps while Dipi's gone. She's picked up a few things from Dipi over the years.
Number 30
Sindi brings over more baby supplies for Toadie because she wants to help out as much as she can. She asks how he's coping and Toadie says he's still in shock. Sonya arrives home and Sindi makes herself scarce in the bathroom. While Nell's playing with Hugo, Toadie has a chat with Sonya. She apologises for being out for so long but Toadie understands. He does want to finish off their conversation from earlier however.
SONYA: I'm struggling, Jarrod.
TOADIE: OK, well I can't help but think that's another reason why we should put IVF on hold.
Nell calls out for her parents to come and play with her and Hugo. Toadie wants to keep talking but Sonya tells him to be with the kids. She just needs time to get used to everything but she's going to start by making Hugo some food.
The Waterhole
Leo and Ned watch Paul and Terese at the pool table. Paul flips a coin to start the game but it doesn't go his way.
PAUL: Ladies first.
TERESE: I'm no lady; I'm your worst nightmare.
Ned congratulates Leo on getting them to play pool but still doesn't think this situation is going to end well. He knows Terese is going to beat the pants off Paul but Leo thinks it'll be the perfect opportunity for Paul to show his vulnerable side. Ned doesn't believe that will happen and instead Paul will crack it, but Leo tells him to have faith. Terese and Paul continue to banter with each other while they play.
Number 30
Sindi stays with the kids while Toadie goes to Sonya in the kitchen because he can see how upset and distracted she is. He tells Sonya that all of this is just as scary for him as well, that's why he thinks they need to take everything one step at a time.
TOADIE: I don't want you to see that as a lack of faith between us. It's about taking the pressure off. Sweetheart, the only way this is going to work is if we're on the same page. And I really hope that you can be because I can't do this on my own. I need you. Hugo does too.
Number 24
Mishti's guiding the boys in some dance steps, not realising that David has been standing on Aaron's feet the whole time. David laughs and says at least this way he can't mess up and tread on Aaron's toes because he already is. Dipi gets back and is extremely upset Mishti sent her on a wild goose chase, and she's become the new dance teacher in the meantime! David and Aaron confess that her theory lesson was bad and they need practical lessons. They try to placate her by saying they still need a whole routine choreographed for their first dance. Dipi sulks a bit first but looks as though she's changing her mind when Aaron says they'll do anything she wants.
Number 30
Toadie smiles as he watches Sonya play with Hugo, Nell and a toy koala. Sonya even gets Lyra in on the act by asking her a question about koalas. Sindi brings the washing in from the line on her quest to do all that she can to make things right with the Rebecchis. Toadie invites her to stay for lunch, which Sindi is hesitant to do, but Toadie insists. Toadie's surprised when Sonya tells him to go with Sindi to Harold's to pick up the takeaway while she stays with the kids.
Number 24
Mishti returns to the house and catches Dipi out teaching Aaron and David the dance routine to the finale of Flapper. The boys aren't impressed but Dipi really took that 'we'll do anything you want' thing to heart. Mishti has a chat with her sister, telling her to go back to basics, while Aaron and David get a drink in the kitchen and practice their waltz steps. Dipi notes that they're actually not that bad for beginners.
The Waterhole
Terese wins her match against Paul as predicted, but Paul takes it quite well. He then offers to buy Terese a drink before her next game to congratulate her. Terese smiles and accepts. Over at the bar Leo gloats to Ned about being right.
NED: OK, OK, you were right, but would it kill you to think about everyone else in all of this?
LEO: Huh?
NED: Well you get those two together and I have to deal with Paul hanging around the house all the time.
Ned heads off when Paul approaches Leo. Paul can see his son is smug about something and Leo confesses he set the whole pool game up just to see if Paul could be vulnerable around Terese, and he was. Leo adds that Terese seems to find that an attractive quality in Paul.
PAUL: I'm aware of that.
LEO: (incredulous) Then why don't you show her that side of you more often?
PAUL: Because she's been keeping me at arms length ever since she split up with Gary.
LEO: That's ancient history now. You should go for it.
PAUL: If you were able to find some more opportunities for us to spend time together I probably wouldn't object.
Leo shares a smile with Paul - it's a deal.
Harold's Café/Number 30
Sindi tells Toadie that he shouldn't worry so much about Sonya but Toadie says he's asking a lot of his wife.
At home, Sonya is changing Hugo's nappy on the change table. She becomes more and more distracted and flustered, though, when Lyra starts reminding her about her IVF hormone injections. Then Nell keeps asking her questions.
Toadie hopes that the more time Sonya spends with Hugo then the easier it'll be for her to accept him into their life.
Nell goes to climb on the furniture to reach something she'd been asking Sonya about. Sonya moves towards Nell to tell her to stop but is horrified when she hears a thud behind her and realises Hugo's rolled off the change table onto the floor. Hugo starts crying and Sonya rushes over to see if he's OK.
