Erinsborough Hospital
David is telling the staff that Karl who is on a trolley has a suspected major pulmonary embolism. Karl experienced cardiovascular instability and they had to resuscitate Karl. The theatre has been prepped and Karl's in a critical condition. Xanthe follows the trolley in and explains that Karl's heart stopped twice and they were working on him all the way to the hospital. David promises to keep updating her.

Car
Dipi is driving and Susan is in the passenger seat. Susan who is sounding agitated thanks Dipi for driving her and thinks Dipi would prefer to be with her daughters. Dipi explains that Shane was willing to take the girls home. Dipi guesses that Karl will now be at the hospital. Susan wonders what was going through Karl's head and says he shouldn't be in the helicopter in the first place. Dipi points out that Karl was worried. Susan is adamant that Karl needed to put his health first.

DIPI: When I found out that Kirsha was lost in the bush there was no stopping me coming out.

Susan reminds her that Dipi didn't venture further than the camp. Karl knew that all the teams who knew what they were doing were searching for Susan and Kirsha. Karl was very stubborn and was determined to be a hero and go by himself. Susan is still unsure how badly Karl was injured and the SES haven't been able to tell her all she needs to know. Dipi suggests that Susan phones Xanthe who might be able to tell her more. Dipi reassures Susan that Karl will be ok.

Middle of Nowhere
Chloe has been changing in Paul's car. Chloe admits it's about as comfortable as Leo's desk! Leo points out that the bonus is they haven't been interrupted. Leo wants to know why Chloe is now wearing workout clothes, she had planned to visit the gym during her lunch break! She mentions a quickie before the end of lunch which sends Leo's mind racing! Chloe points out she meant a workout! Leo lets Chloe know that Paul won't notice if she is late as he has meetings this afternoon. Leo offers Chloe a lift to The Shed.

No.30
Sonya is sitting at the table as Toadie is looking around. Sonya hears a motorbike and realises it will be Steph. Toadie is looking for his keys and seems distracted. Sonya admits that the Mother's Day brunch could have gone better. Toadie points out they thought it was the right thing to do. Steph arrives home and Toadie leaves for the hospital, explaining that Karl is now in danger.

Sonya fills Steph in, they don't know what Karl's condition is. Sonya apologises about the brunch, Steph brushes it off. Sonya hadn't wanted Steph to feel they were rubbing her nose in it, Steph denies this. Steph admits that this day is the worst, she thinks about her boys each day but she promises she is ok. Steph admits she went for a ride with Paul, Sonya is bemused. Steph wanted to clear her head but she kept thinking of Charlie and Adam. Sonya offers to help.

STEPH: I've done all I can do from here. I think it's time for a big change.
SONYA: Meaning what?
STEPH: I think I need to leave Erinsborough.

The Shed
Chloe is surprised to see Brandon working out as he is meant to be in charge of Reception. Brandon coolly tells her he has taken the afternoon off, he asks if she got his e-mail about it. She demands that he returns to work. She reminds him he can't just choose to leave work and shirk his responsibilities. Brandon asks if it's ok then to sleep with Leo. He offers to tell Terese about this. He tells her she will need to find someone to cover for him. Chloe walks off in disgust as Brandon just smirks.

Lassiter's Reception
Chloe arrives still in her workout clothes. Amy arrives and Chloe begs to borrow her clothes. Amy is astounded, Chloe explains she needs them for work. Amy has returned from work but Chloe isn't interested in how everyone is after what happened. She sends Amy into a room and goes off to find a robe. Chloe comes back, takes the clothes but heads off leaving Amy without a robe!

Erinsborough Hospital
Dipi and Susan are waiting. Toadie runs in and gives Susan a hug, she confirms she is ok and has been checked over. David arrives and Susan wants to know how Karl is. Nobody has given her any information. David explains that Karl has a broken fibula and that his knee was dislocated. Xanthe did a splint and relocated his knee. The DVT had developed into a pulmonary embolism. His condition worsened and he went into cardiac arrest. Xanthe did CPR until the helicopter arrived.

DAVID: His heart stopped twice on the way over.

Dipi and Susan are shocked. Susan wants to know where Karl is, David explains he's still in surgery. They are attempting to get rid of the clot that travelled to his lungs. David goes to head off when Dipi asks how Karl is. David says he keeps checking on Karl but it has been taking longer than they expected at first.

DAVID: I can't offer any assurances. I'm so sorry Susan.

David heads off as Susan looks aghast.

No.30
Steph admits that she is glad Jack persuaded her to make a goals list even though things didn't work out between them. Sonya points out that she hadn't realised one of Steph's goal was to leave Erinsborough.

STEPH: It wasn't. But I've set out and achieved everything I wanted to here. I've stabilised my mental health, started my business.
Steph admits the retreat is still a work in progress. Her boys are more important though. As Dan and Adam have made a life for them in Sydney and wouldn't move to Melbourne she wants to move there. Steph has gone back to square one with Max over Charlie after what happened with her visa. She doesn't want to force the issue. She would prefer to build a relationship with one child than neither of her children. That is why she is relocating to Sydney. She will have to work out what to do with the retreat, finding a place to live and work in Sydney. She's hoping that Dan will agree with the idea after things went well after Christmas. Sonya suggests that Steph checks with Dan before making plans. Steph agrees and goes to call him.

Hotel Reception
Chloe who is in Amy's clothes apologises to a guest for the delay and gives her a key card. Terese comes over and Chloe tries putting her off by talking about her day spa appointment. Terese reminds Chloe about maintaining a certain standard. Chloe claims she had tried a new look but it obviously hasn't worked! Terese isn't amused!

Leo arrives and Chloe tells him that need to sort something out. Leo comments on her outfit. Chloe tells him about Brandon slacking and threatening to tell everyone about them. Leo comments that things are getting out of hand. Leo promises to talk to Brandon after his meeting with Liam. He agrees to get Chloe's bag from her locker so she can change her clothes.

Erinsborough Hospital
Xanthe is getting some water from the machine. She hears Karl in her head telling her she needs to do it, she drops the water to the ground. David (the voice is faraway in her head) comes and asks if she's ok. He takes her to a treatment room, telling her she is in shock.

Susan is looking at a text Karl sent her when she was missing. She got the text on the way to the hospital and shows it to Toadie and Dipi.

Text : The kids are lucky to have you, but I miss you. And love you more. K XX

Toadie points out Karl hasn't put any emojis to lighten the mood. She was angry with him in the car that he put himself in this situation and be so stupid. The one thing she wants to say now is that he is the person she loves. Toadie reassures Susan that Karl does know that she feels this way about him as the tears start falling. Susan is worried she might not get to tell Karl.

No.30
Sonya is telling Toadie over the fact that she wants him to stay there and support Susan. Sonya comes off the phone that Karl is in surgery and it's taking longer than expected. Everyone is worried and Steph sympathises. Steph offers to look after Nell if Sonya wants to go to the hospital. Sonya is grateful but declines but doesn't think she can offer any extra help. Steph has spoken to Dan and things are looking up. Steph feels bad about being happy about this after what has happened to Karl. Sonya wants to hear more about the phone call with Dan, he's happy for Steph to move to Sydney. The co-parenting won't happen immediately but Dan is fine with Steph and Adam spending more time together. Sonya is happy but she reminds Steph that she needs to sort things out. Steph is convinced that Adam will be worth it.

SONYA: I'm just gonna miss you.
STEPH: I'm gonna miss you too.

Steph states that she needs Charlie and Adam. Sonya realises this and would do the same for her own kids. Steph acknowledges Sonya and Toadie have been her support and got her to where she is now. Sonya promises to help make this happen. They exchange a hug.

The Shed
Leo arrives in his car. Terese is speaking to Susan's voicemail She's just heard the news and offering her help. Leo comes over and Terese explains she's looking for classes to fill her spare time. Leo goes to find Brandon and tells him the pay rise should have been enough. He tells Brandon to stop this silly way he's behaving. Brandon isn't fazed, Leo insists Brandon returns to work. Brandon mentions a hot date tonight then gets Terese attention. Leo realises Brandon would carry through his threat and tells Brandon he can take tonight off work. Brandon suggests he borrows Leo's car for the hot date, Leo tells him it's Paul's newest car. Brandon holds out his hand for the keys, Leo hands them off reluctantly.

Erinsborough Hospital
Susan has a flashback to her and Karl's wedding in London and her declaration of love to him. David comes to speak to her which brings her out of her flashback. Susan asks if Karl is ok.

DAVID: They did everything they could but he didn't make it. I'm so sorry.

Susan starts crying.

No.28
At No.28 Susan is all dressed in black and throws her keys on the side. She picks up Karl's jacket from a chair and inhales Karl's aroma.

Erinsborough Hospital
David calls Susan's name and we see she imagined being given the news Karl was dead. Susan asks if Karl is ok.

DAVID: He's out of surgery and he's in recovery and in a stable condition. We think he'll pull through.

Everyone is happy with relief! Karl, Toadie and Dipi share a hug.

Penthouse Suite
Leo is impressed at the response to Liam's product. He suggests that Liam broadens his market. Liam admits there is an opportunity that would be exciting but he's still making up his mind. Also it would happen at the right time. There is a knock at the door and Chloe comes in. Leo apologises for changing the time, Liam doesn't mind. Liam notices Chloe's wearing a shirt very similar to the one Amy has. Chloe confirms it's the same shirt and Liam leaves.

Leo admits that he's covered Brandon's shift and lent him Paul's car. Chloe points out things are getting out of hand. Leo states the only other option is to tell others about them. Leo's happy to come clean but Chloe is more hesitant, she wants her brothers to take her more seriously. She asks how Paul would react. Leo says Paul would reprimand him and be furious. Someone else would be Head of Business Affairs. Chloe reminds him she would lose her job which she can't afford to do. Leo suggests they stop seeing each other, Chloe reminds him they're only having fun and no one gets hurt. Leo suggests they find a way to sort out Brandon. They agree to keep having fun for now and Leo locks the door.

No.30
Toadie and Sonya are hugging with relief. Toadie tells her and Steph that Susan was upset and Toadie was trying to keep going to support Susan. Sonya suggests they let the family know. Steph gets an e-mail notification which she hopes is the management company contacting her. Toadie is clueless so Sonya fills him in on Steph's plans. Toadie is stunned that it will be Sydney, Steph tells him it's the right thing to do. Even though Sonya won't like losing her, she tells Toadie she's promised to help Steph sort things out, Toadie agrees. Steph tells him she needs to be near Adam so she is looking for a place to live and costs etc. She is looking for a Retreat Manager. Sonya can't believe the salary as it is more money than she pays herself! She says the Retreat wouldn't be able to afford it. She worries she can't make this happen and starts despairing about what to do.

Erinsborough Hospital
SUSAN: I thought I'd lost you.

Karl is wired up to the monitors in recovery. Susan tells Karl that she was furious with him for going by himself to find her. He was aware of the dangers as well. She worried he would die and waited to be given that exact news by David. She was trying to come to terms with how she would cope without him, what everything would be like without him. He drives her mad at various times.

SUSAN: There is no me without you. I know it's going to happen one day. But we still have so much to do, so much life to live. I don't want to do it on my own. I love you so much.

Xanthe is in another room sitting on the bed. David comes in and Xanthe asks after Karl. David says Karl will be ok and he's in recovery, Xanthe is relieved. David checks her over, she feels a bit shaky. She keeps thinking about what happened. David tells her it's understandable as it was an intense situation. She had been worried that things would go wrong, the helicopter wouldn't make it, Karl would die. David reminds her that didn't happen and she was calm in the situation. He points out that doctors might not have been as calm as her. Xanthe says she just followed Karl's instructions, there wasn't time to do anything else. David points out she kept going when she needed to perform CPR. She did the necessary things to make sure he was still alive. Xanthe is glad Karl will be ok. David thinks she would be a great doctor.

Lassiter's Complex
Chloe is now back in her own clothes and comes and exchanges flirty banter with Leo. Leo gets a text to say Paul is on his way over. Brandon arrives in the car and Leo can't believe Brandon has the roof up. Brandon claims the roof is stuck. Brandon hints there might be a speeding fine as he was speeding down the highway. Brandon heads off and Chloe states that Paul will go mad! Leo points out that Paul is due to arrive at any minute!
