Erinsborough Backpackers
Aaron is hanging around outside with Amy, who's chastising him for the incident with Rafael's shirt.
AMY: I know ripping shirts off was your job for a while there - but mate, there's a time and a place!
AARON: Please tell me that did not just happen.
David comes out of the backpackers'; he's even more annoyed with Aaron. Aaron insists he didn't know about Rafael's scars, and didn't mean to rip his shirt. But he says he's suspicious of Rafael because of the intense conversation he saw him having with Jayden, and the fact he has Sue Parker's business card in his bag.
AARON: Doesn't that sound suss to you?
DAVID: No. And I don't care. All I care about is Raf.
David says Raf is inside, collecting himself, then sets off for a walk - telling Aaron not to be here when he returns.

Karl and Susan watch anxiously, as an upset Holly reads Izzy's farewell letter in the garden.
HOLLY: Dumped again.
KARL: Oh, sweetheart. I genuinely think she's trying to put you first.
HOLLY: Yeah. That's what she said. 'You're better off without me.'
KARL: I'm so sorry.
HOLLY: Why? It's typical Mum. She does this all the time.
SUSAN: Now, Holly - your mum is a lot of things. But she does love you. You should never doubt that.
Holly isn't keen on facing school today, so Susan offers to work at home and stay with her. Looking happier, Holly goes inside. Karl tells Susan he appreciates this; but Susan just shakes her head at him witheringly, and walks off.
Harold's Café
Toadie breaks the news to Dipi that Izzy won't be funding her theatre group after all; the account she set up will be frozen by the end of the day. Dipi pretends to take the news well, saying it isn't the end of the world...
The Waterhole
... but she goes on to complain to Sheila and Shane about what a disaster it is! Dipi says she'd been planning a production of her musical stage show, Flapper!, but now it's all in ruins. She'd already cast the show from her improv group, she adds, including -
DIPI: Me, as Ginger LaPierre, and Shane as Shiny Pants Bobby, her cheating lover (...) It's set in Chicago in the roaring '20s.
SHEILA: Oh, it sounds like -
SHANE: No, no - it's nothing like that!
DIPI: Our show's about jazz and gangsters, and two women fighting it out in a man's world.
SHEILA: Oh, it still sounds like -
SHANE: No, no - it's different to that.
Dipi remarks that Sheila would make a great Loretta. Sheila seems excited by this, and suggests that Dipi could 'dip in' to Izzy's account today, before it's frozen, in order that the show may go on. Shane agrees that it may be worth bending the rules to make the dream happen.
SHANE: What would Ginger LaPierre do?
DIPI: She'd do whatever it takes...
Erinsborough Backpackers
David comes into the dorm and finds Rafael on his bunk, reading his mother's journal. David says that what Aaron did was completely out of line, but nonetheless asks how Raf knows Sue Parker - pointing out that Raf seems twitchy around Paul, and noting the leak to the newspaper shortly after Raf and David discussed the Robinson Heights development.
RAFAEL: If you have all this doubt, then why are you still here?
DAVID: Don't get angry.
RAFAEL: I'm just not used to explaining myself to someone.
DAVID: You write in your journal instead?
RAFAEL: It's my mum's. She mostly wrote about work stuff. But there's entries here and there about me. I read it. I hear her voice. Makes me feel like she's still here. That I'm not alone.
DAVID: Hey. You're not alone. I'm here.
David comforts a tearful Rafael.
The Waterhole
Sheila laments to Clive about the demise of Dipi's stage show. She also sees an advert in the local paper showing that the Ross Wilson Live concert in Elliott Park at the end of the month is sold out, and is disappointed - she'd meant to get tickets, but completely forgot. Clive suggests someone might sell their tickets online - and that if not, they'll think of something.
Clive sees Karl at a table and goes over to talk to him. Karl apologises for Izzy's donation for the hospital wing falling through. Clive says that without Izzy's donation, Paul's money alone is not enough to take the project forward - and that as a result, it's been cancelled. Instead, any money raised so far will be used to refurbish existing parts of the hospital.
Karl begs Clive to let him make some calls to other potential donors, but Clive says the decision's already been taken by the board. It will mean Karl's new position of research director won't exist - and they've already given his old job to someone else, meaning Karl is jobless!

Karl rejoins Susan in the garden; Holly's in her bedroom, Susan explains. Karl tells Susan that he's lost his job as a result of the hospital wing being cancelled. Susan is sympathetic initially, but when Karl starts moaning about being 'tossed aside' after all his hard work on the wing, she's incredulous.
SUSAN: No, no, Karl! What happened was unfair, but you're hardly an innocent victim in all this! Did you stop to think that maybe you brought some of this on yourself?
KARL: Are you saying I deserve this?!
SUSAN: Oh, no - no! Let's talk about it later.
Susan announces that she's going to be taking some leave from work. She's heading to Oakey to help Ben settle in there, and also to spend some time with Libby who is flying in to do the same - and Billy too, on the way home. Karl is surprised at Susan's timing, with so much to sort out here.
SUSAN: To tell you the truth, Karl - I'm as fed up as you must be hearing me complain about Isabelle. I just need a break.
KARL: Okay. Well, maybe Holly and I can join you.
SUSAN: No, no, Karl - I need a break from *you*.
KARL: Hey, I know things have been difficult - and you've been patient, more than I deserve. But surely we can work things out together - here at our home?
SUSAN: I can't keep going over the same old ground, again and again. I think the best thing for both of us would be just to have some space. And then we'll talk when I get back, okay?
Karl looks devastated as Susan walks away.
Harold's Café
Dipi admits to Shane that she has taken Sheila's advice and dipped into Izzy's account before it's frozen later, to buy some costumes for Flapper! Dipi's worried as to whether she's done the right thing; Shane says they can always return the costumes, but that they may as well have some fun with them in the meantime...
DIPI: What were you thinking?
SHANE (US accent): Just call me Bobby!
They rush out of the café excitedly!
Meanwhile, Amy is telling Elly about Aaron ripping Rafael's shirt off earlier.
ELLY: Well, I drove a car at someone once, so I can't judge.
Mishti comes in and overhears this - Elly tells Mishti not to arrest her, as it was ages ago and has all been looked into! They explain to Mishti about the tension between Aaron and 'David's new boyfriend'. Mishti's shocked when she hears that the boyfriend is called Rafael, and realises who David has been seeing. She looks worried, admitting she's crossed paths with Rafael already...

In the back garden, we hear jazz show-tune music as Dipi and Shane, clad in 1920s apparel, indulge in a private performance of Flapper! Toadie enters via the side gate, unnoticed, and is amused by what he sees - he begins to photograph proceedings on his phone!
SHANE (singing): That Ginger's got me in a flap!
DIPI: So says your mouth. But your eyes said something different when that Rosie shimmied into the room.
SHANE: But Ginger - you know you're the only dame for me!
Toadie continues to laugh and photograph them, until things take a rather kinky turn - and Dipi bends Shane over her knee and starts to spank him! Taking a few last snaps, Toadie begins to fear he's seen enough, and creeps back out of the gate again without Shane or Dipi noticing he was ever there.

Mishti arrives to see Aaron, and begins to ask him about Rafael and why Aaron chose to confront him. Aaron explains about finding Sue Parker's business card amongst Rafael's possessions, and how Sue and Paul are longstanding enemies etc. Aaron then relays Amy's suspicions about the incidents on the construction site being the result of sabotage.
MISHTI: But Leo could have been killed!
AARON: Yeah, I know. The thing is, Sue's own son has been working with Amy. And I saw him and Rafael talking the other day. And don't forget - Sue hates Paul.
A worried Mishti thanks Aaron, and leaves.

Holly finds Karl in the garden, and is surprised to see him back from work so early. She's still upset about Izzy leaving.
HOLLY: I knew she wouldn't stay. Even when you and Susan were telling me the plan this morning, I didn't really buy it. But I didn't think she'd leave me behind.
KARL: You know, maybe this is part of a new plan - a plan where you get to stay here, and we get to find out more about each other.
HOLLY: Maybe.
They discuss gardening, which Holly opines is boring. Karl admits that he likes it because it takes him away from his problems.
KARL: But then, ironically, I find my problems are still here - in microcosm.
He gives Holly some gardening gloves (since she's worried about her fingernails) and invites her to join him in planting some beans! She smiles as they get to work.

Steph is talking to Charlie on Skype, and has just finished when Toadie comes in. Toadie shows Steph the pictures of Dipi spanking Shane! Steph is amused, but warns Toadie that Dipi and Shane won't want the photos getting about in case their kids see them!
TOADIE: I know - Stonie is gonna love 'em!
STEPH: What? Are you sure you should be doing that?!
TOADIE: Yeah, relax! What happens between brothers stays between brothers. It's an old Rebecchi rule.
STEPH: If you say so...!
Giddy on his own mischievousness, Toadie sends the photos to Stonie!
Lassiter's Complex
Rafael encounters Aaron outside Harold's, and quickly walks away - but Aaron catches up with him. He insists he didn't know about the scars, or mean to rip his shirt off, but adds...
AARON: I don't know what your deal is. But whatever you're up to, it had better not end up in David getting hurt.
RAFAEL: Just stay away from me!
Meanwhile, Dipi and Shane return to the café with their costume bags, having decided to return them to the shops and repay the money. Toadie and Steph turn up, and Toadie subtly teases Shane and Dipi, asking what they've been up to. When Toadie asks if they've been in 'a bit of a flap', Dipi's forced to admit that they 'borrowed' money from Izzy's account, against Toadie's instructions.
Toadie is surprised and annoyed by this. Dipi says that the money will be back in the account by the end of the day, and Toadie says it had better be. Shane and Dipi scurry off.
STEPH: You were pretty quick to let them off the hook (...)
TOADIE: Oh, that's what you think.
The Handywoman
Amy and Jayden are at work moving bags of gravel. Amy asks Jayden how his mum feels about him having an apprenticeship with Amy, given how much Sue dislikes Paul. Jayden looks rattled, but says he doesn't know anything about that. Mishti pulls up in a police car, and asks for a word with Jayden, who seems unsurprised to see her.
Mishti asks if Jayden knows Rafael; he grudgingly admits he does, but is silent on how Sue knows Rafael. She then asks how the concrete slab fell, and whether Jayden sabotaged the truck.
MISHTI: Was Leo Tanaka your target?
JAYDEN: What? No, he wasn't! It was an accident, I swear!
MISHTI: Okay, well, you need to start telling the truth. If you don't, Amy will be the one to face the consequences.
JAYDEN: She wasn't involved.
MISHTI: But you were. And you're going to tell me everything.
Jayden looks contrite, while Amy, who has been overhearing all this, looks disappointed.

Holly is surprised to learn from Karl that Susan has gone on a trip - he admits it wasn't planned, and that Susan left to get a break from him, but that it's nothing to worry about. Holly correctly guesses that Susan's upset about Izzy, but Karl promises they'll work through it.
Karl suggests a bike ride tomorrow, but Holly wonders why he won't be at work. Karl admits that the hospital wing is now 'on the back burner' and claims he's on 'temporary leave'. Holly remarks that that doesn't sound good, but Karl says that at least it means they have more time to spend together.
Paul's Penthouse
Mishti enters from the lift, and finds Rafael and David having a cup of tea together. Mishti asks Rafael to come to the station with her; and David, assuming she's talking about the incident at the backpackers' with Aaron, says there's no reason for police involvement.
MISHTI: It's not about that.
DAVID: What's going on?
MISHTI: Sue Parker and her son Jayden have been called in for questioning. We believe that Sue was trying to discredit Paul, and that she used Jayden to sabotage the work site.
DAVID: So, why do you need to talk to Raf, then?
MISHTI: We suspect he was working with Sue. And that he helped plan the accident that hurt Leo.
DAVID: Is this true?
RAFAEL: ... I'm sorry, David.
