Piper tries to hide the fact she's been crying when the door opens - it's her mum who can see she's upset and pulls her in for a hug.
Lassiters Complex
"I'm glad we're not there," Susan remarks after Karl hears from Izzy to say she is outside #28. She wants to do the pregnancy test this afternoon, but Karl is in a pickle - they were supposed to be taking Ben to the airport then. "Grandad doesn't have to come," Ben offers.
SUSAN: The longer this goes on, the more I think she truly believes that we can all just be happy together. Her, us, Holly... the baby.
Karl is refusing to dwell on that last part until he knows the results.
Number 24
Terese is relieved that Mark told her about Piper and tries to reassure her tearful daughter that what she is going through is normal.
PIPER: What, feeling like a crazy person?
"Going to court is a hugely stressful thing," but Terese promises to be with Piper whatever she decides. Piper realises that she needs to testify but wishes the prospect wasn't so scary and wants to take up her mum's offer of sitting with her in court, even if it means Terese has to juggle her schedule ahead of her London trip.
TERESE: You're my priority.
Harold's café
Toadie is impressed at Rita's prompt arrival and reveals that her London solicitor is surprised he's been engaged by her. Rita explains that he has history with Izzy, knows what she is capable of and how to handle her.
TOADIE: I don't know that anyone can handle her, but I will give it my best.
Toadie confirms he's read all the documents and that Rita has a strong case. Rita wants him to talk to Izzy today, even if it means having to reschedule other appointments and promises to make it "worth your while" to get the papers signed as she is flying out this evening.
TOADIE: I guess it's just going to be an interesting day.
School
Jack chats to Yashvi ahead of her work experience stint. She isn't happy to hear that Gus (Tia's brother) will be there too because he has more footy experience than her, but eventually accepts the situation.
Lassiters hotel
Izzy is surprised to see Toadie at her hotel room door and sends Holly out of the room, so they can talk privately. He explains about his visitor (Rita, her late hubby's daughter) who has hired him to be her lawyer to contest the validity of her father's will on the grounds of undue influence and duress.
TOADIE: She says you coerced him into signing it.
According to Izzy, Clint wouldn't do that but Toadie explains that as far as UK law goes, if the will is suspicions, Izzy has to prove the validity of the will. Izzy hopes to talk Rita out of her plans but hears that there is an injunction on the money too until its resolved!
IZZY: But that's my money.
TOADIE: A judge will decide that now.
Toadie then says that Rita doesn't want a long drawn-out expensive legal battle and is offering a deal - in exchange for Izzy giving up all claims to the estate, Rita will forgive all the money that has already spent.
IZZY: What sort of a deal is that?
TOADIE: One where she doesn't come after you for all the costs and the money already blown and I can only assume that that is a considerable amount.
Toadie hands over the paperwork for Izzy to read and adds that the deal is only valid until the end of business hours today.
(Later)
Commercial break later, a stunned Holly comes out of the bathroom having of course heard the conversation and asks her mum what they are going to do. "Your dad will look after us," is Izzy's fall-back plan.
Number 28
Susan can't contain her glee as Toadie tells Susan and Karl about his visit to Izzy! He is giving them the heads up, in case it affects the money for the hospital wing - as the donation is simply a pledge, Rita might not honour it. "That's outrageous!" Karl protests and Toadie reminds him that it is $20m they are talking about and doesn't think if Izzy were to contest it that she'd stand a chance of winning.
KARL: There goes the hospital wing.
After Toadie leaves, Susan offers Karl her sympathy, but he isn't exactly accepting it and gets out his phone to call Izzy.
Whitten Oval
Ellie Blackburn of the Western Bulldogs AFL Women's team warmly greets Yashvi and Gus and tells them to go warm up ahead of doing some ball skills work to see what level they are at. "I'll have to check my schedule first," Yashvi jokingly replies and after Ellie leaves, remarks, "she probably thinks I'm an idiot now."
GUS: Yip!
He isn't amused that him, someone who has played footy all his life, is having to share his work experience with someone who is new to the game. "But I love it now," she tries to tell him, but his advice is not to embarrass herself!
Ellie returns with the equipment and explains what they are going to do in the session. Yashvi suddenly announces she has hamstring issues so she can sit it out.
Terese's office
Over the phone, Paige lies about Terese's presence to Paul as she rushes into the room. Paige isn't too amused to hear that Terese hasn't got the final version of the video but softens on hearing where she was. Terese admits she is surprised to see Paige in the office, given the trial starts tomorrow but the lass wants to work and volunteers to make sure the video is correct too.
Terese then announces that she doesn't think she can go to London even if Paul won't be amused!
Number 24
Piper is spending some final time with Ben before he leaves. She admits that she is glad Terese is going with her to court when he asks her about it. Ben asks if she will to look out for Susan, especially if Izzy is pregnant when he's gone, something she readily agrees to do.
Ramsay Street
Karl and Susan are packing the last of Ben's things into the car when Holly and Izzy approach them. Izzy is already acting the 'woe is me' but is not getting any sympathy from Susan!
IZZY: I know we've had our difference Susan, but I thought you would just be a little bit more sympathetic.
SUSAN: Really after everything you've done to my husband, to our family?!
IZZY: Everything that I have done has been in the interest of family.
SUSAN: Everything that you have done has been in the interest of you.
Karl decides it's a good time to step in and suggests to Izzy that they postpone the test, but she wants to go ahead with it so they all know where they stand. Susan literally rolls her eyes when Izzy then says that she's potentially going to end up on the street.
IZZY: Don't suppose you know anyone who has a spare room?
Susan gives Karl one of her famous glares before he opens his mouth, but he ignores that and tells Izzy and Holly to head inside out of the thundery rain.
SUSAN: Not happening!
KARL: I didn't say anything.
SUSAN: I'm pre-empting!
Susan then offers him her terms - she is happy for Holly to stay as long as she wants but Izzy has to sort herself out. Karl wants them to focus first on saying bye to Ben, but he's ordered to stay home and find out the result of the test, Susan will take Ben to the airport.
Number 28
Karl enters the house as Izzy is making a cuppa for herself (Holly is out in the garden). He spells it out that he isn't happy especially at what he perceives is Izzy not realising the gravity of the situation.
IZZY: Okay I stuffed up, is that what you want to hear?
KARL: No, I want to hear you taking responsibility.
"I do," Izzy replies and acknowledges that she could have done things differently... just like he could over his silence about being tempted to have another child. She asks him to tell her in the eye that he doesn't want to be a father again.
KARL: Imagining something for an instant and wanting it, well they're two different things.
IZZY: They don't have to be.
The chat is interrupted by a text Izzy receives - its Lassiters seeing if she can pay her bill! Izzy departs to sort out the hotel and promises to text later, so they can meet to do the pregnancy test.
Number 30
Rita looks over the paperwork Toadie has drafted up since Izzy plans not to contest the will, but she turns down his plea to honour the hospital donation. She is very impressed at Toadie's legal skills, so much so, offers him the chance to do more work for her instead of the Sydney firm she usually uses. Toadie agrees as long as he can still also work independently, which she agrees to before leaving.
Number 30/Whitten Oval
Toadie's other favourite client is on the phone looking for advice - Yashvi wanting to know how she can get out of the hole she dug for herself on work experience. "You get up and give it another go," is his advice as well as telling her the tale of Leon Baker in the 1984 Grand Final. "Leon Baker," is her new mantra as she grabs a footy and runs back out to the oval.
Number 22
Terese is giving Piper advice ahead of appearing in court as they sit and chat. Paige arrives home with bad news that the video isn't good because there isn't enough material to use and explains to Piper that she isn't going to London, she will do the presentation via video link. Piper tries to talk her mum out of staying but she wants to be there for her daughter.
Whitten Oval
Session over and Ellie is impressed with the pair of them but especially so Yashvi and suggests that she finds herself a team to play for.
GUS: Girls look after each other.
YASHVI: Yeah, go ahead and tell yourself that if it makes you feel better... I've got to start thinking about my future in football. Bye!
Ramsay Street
Over the aptly titled 'This is hell' Ben places his guitar into the car before spending some final precious time with Xanthe. "It's not goodbye, its long distance," she reiterates as she gives him a hug before adding that they can make it work.
Number 28[/b]
Susan steps back into the garden for her phone before heading off with Ben. Karl receives his summons from Izzy that she is ready to do the test.
SUSAN: Don't keep her waiting then!
Lassiters hotel
Karl sits waiting as Izzy comes out of the bathroom, test in her hand and starts the timer on her phone. Both sit nervously for the 3 minutes it's going to be before the result is known.
Street somewhere
Susan is on her way back from the airport and is talking (hands free!) to Xanthe on the phone and turns the lass down on having a cuppa with her. "I'm not sure what I'll be doing," she explains while trying to keep the tears at bay.
Lassiters hotel
And the 3 minutes are up! Nervously, and silently, they turn their attention to the test. After what feels like an eternity, Karl bows his head down before standing up with his hands behind his head.
Road somewhere
Susan desperately tries not to cry as she drives and with the audience wanting to know the test result, the promo begins!
