- Brooke is outraged that Sheila was snooping through her jewellery
- Steph and Mark agree to do a round of IVF treatment
- Piper screams that at Tyler that she's sick of him
- Tyler speeds away in a car from the garage
- Elly admires Mark's Halloween costume
- Angus dedicates his song to someone special as Elly walks out
- Elly wakes up to find Angus kissing her
Elly sits in disbelief on the sofa as Angus slowly backs away.
ELLY: Oh my god. Did you really think that was going to work?
ANGUS: Umm, yeah, I guess so. Look, I figured that once we kissed then you wouldn't be able to deny that there's actually something between us.
ELLY: There is nothing between us!
Angus tries to plead with Elly, but the pair is interrupted as Susan, Karl and Ben return home. Ben goads Angus for not staying to pack up and Susan is suspicious, asking when Elly and Angus decided to leave. Elly says that they arrived separately and heads to bed.
Tyler is sitting against a tree somewhere, as he clutches his hand and gasps with pain. In the background, the stolen car has been crashed into a tree and the crumpled bonnet is steaming.
It's now morning, and Tyler apologises to Ben for being late. Ben is panicking as it seems that someone has broken into the garage and stolen Tim Collins' car, although Tyler doesn't seem too surprised. Ben says he's going to call the police and leaves Tyler looking mighty guilty.
There's a very frosty atmosphere over breakfast, as Susan tries to get to the bottom what happened the previous night. NinjaSuse is on the case and asks Angus if there's something going on between him and Elly. He denies the accusation and claims that his song was dedicated to Bec Simmons and not to Elly, as Susan suggests. Susan doesn't quite seem to buy the story but Angus has already left for his bedroom before she can question him further. Karl enters looking very worried and presents Susan with the front page of the West Warratah Star.
Toadie and Sonya have had the same idea, and the camera pans away from the front page, which reads 'Mayor Rebecchi to Carry Local Cop's Baby', and is accompanied by a photo of Sonya and Mark looking friendly together. Sonya reckons that Steph won't be happy about it...
...and she's right! Aaron, Mark and Steph are gathered around the newspaper and Steph is sounding off about how it shouldn't even be a news item.
The news has also spread to the Canning household, where Sheila can't believe that she hadn't been told beforehand! Brooke comments that Mark and Sonya make a perfect couple but Gary warns them both to stop spouting gossip.
The newspaper is also being read by the Willis clan and Terese can't believe that all parties have agreed to go through with the surrogacy. Paige points out that since she's known him, Mark has always longed to be a father.
Steph blames herself for pushing the surrogacy idea and questions whether it will be worth the pain if everyone's names are to be dragged through the mud.
STEPH: What if it's the universe's way of telling us it's not meant to be?
AARON: What, because you can't conceive naturally? Yeah, well if you believe that, then you also believe that I shouldn't be a father either. Steph, surrogacy gives people like you and I the opportunity to be loving, giving parents. How can anyone oppose that?
Mark points out that there's clearly an agenda to the newspaper article.
Sonya reckons that Tim Collins is trying to force Sonya to resign as mayor, whilst Toadie ponders how Tim managed to find out about the surrogacy in the first place.
Brad mouths off that he can't believe that Toadie would agree to the surrogacy and Piper is quick to point out that Sonya is free to do what she wants with her body.
Sonya starts to have second thoughts about giving an address at The Waterhole for the Melbourne Cup. Toadie gives her a pep talk and pleads her to go.
Terese is incredulous that Sheila hasn't rostered on additional bar staff for the Melbourne Cup. Sheila makes insinuates that Terese is just angry because of Gary and Brooke spending time together, but Terese is quick to warn her not to test their professional relationship. Both Gary and Brooke volunteer their services (Brooke's fully bar trained) and they persuade Terese to let them work. Terese isn't happy about it but reluctantly accepts their invitation and storms off. Sheila reckons that she'll cheer up once the money comes rolling in!
Ben gives his evidence to Mark as they do a tour of the garage and he explains that he found the roller door wide open when he arrived that morning. Tyler has been on the phone to Tim Collins for twenty minutes and is getting an ear- full from him! Mark says he'll be over later to dust for prints and look for evidence.
Elly approaches Mark and eagerly asks if he and Steph have broken up because of the surrogacy. He explains that they've reconciled but they are interrupted by a noisy reporter who is chasing after Sonya and Toadie looking for a comment. Sonya quickly loses her temper and swiped a hand at the journalist to get her phone out of her face, knocking it to the floor in the process. The phone's screen has been cracked but this doesn't deter the reporter who then tries to get a comment from Mark!
Tim Collins is laying into Tyler and demands that he wants his car back. Tim asks if there's any CCTV footage of the incident but Tyler claims that the camera hasn't been working. Tim is distracted by a phone call but shouts that they should get their insurance sorted out pretty damn quick! Ben asks Tyler if the surveillance camera was really broken and Tyler acts sheepish.
Brooke is on top form as she works the bar and warns Elly not to drink on an empty stomach as she upsells the food on the menu. Sheila and Brooke bond over their similar experiences growing up and working from a young age in order to make ends meet.
Outside the garden is buzzing with punters for the Melbourne Cup and Elly takes a seat to watch the race. Angus approaches her and apologises for his actions.
ELLY: It's not romantic tricking women into kissing you. I know you're young Angus, but you're not stupid.
Elly says she's going to have to report what Angus did to Susan but Angus pleads with her and says that he'll be sent away. She ignores him and goes to watch the race.
Piper and Paige talk about how hard it must be to want to have children but not be able to. Paige muses that she and Mark wouldn't have worked out in the long- run as they both wanted such different things and to make matters worse, she's now fallen in love with a priest. Speak of the devil (pardon the pun), Father Jack approaches the counter looking for Sonya as the Warratah Star wants a comment from him. Paige points out that they probably want to get Christian angle as the Church frowns upon surrogacy.
JACK: If science has to intervene, then it's not God's will. I'd better get going.
Tyler drops something heavy and clasps his wrist. Ben asks what's wrong and Tyler confesses to stealing Tim's car. He explains that he's just left the car crashed and Ben pleads Tyler to tell the police. Tyler gets Ben to promise not to tell anyone as they can easily claim that the car was stolen for a joy ride.
Gary is chuffed as he has won $200 from betting on the race and he thanks Brooke for all of her help. He promises to spend his winnings on a fancy dinner for the two of them, just as Terese steps into the bar and witnesses them getting cosy together.
Sonya is busy on her phone when she is ambushed by Tim Collins who follows her and goads her for the bad headlines. He tells Sonya that his reporter is upset that she cracked her phone and starts to imagine headlines slandering Sonya for taking out her hormonal rage on an innocent reporter.
SONYA: This ploy of yours, it's not going to work. I'm not resigning.
TIM: We'll see.
Sonya returns home and complains that everyone in her office wanted to comment on the surrogacy and then relays her encounter with Tim. Steph becomes upset that Sonya's had such a tough time and voices her doubts about going ahead with the surrogacy. Sonya silences Steph and insists that no amount of outside pressure if going to prevent her from having the baby.
Elly returns home and Susan does some low- key detective work about what Elly has been up to. She expresses her concerns about Angus' crush on Elly, suggesting that it may make their living arrangements difficult. Elly confesses that she had similar concerns but explains that she has already spoken to Angus and made it clear that it's inappropriate and nothing will come of it. Elly suggests that perhaps Angus is just missing his mother and reassures Susan that there's nothing to worry about, although Elly's face says otherwise.
Tyler tells Mark that he's managed to sort everything with the insurance company and that Lucas has been understanding about the theft. Mark asks Jack if he's seen Simone because he wants to speak to her about the stolen car and suggests that she may have been involved. Jack assures Mark that Simone is innocent but Mark persists and says that the evidence points towards her considering she has already tried to steal Amy's ute a few days before.
