Erinsborough Police Station
John tells Mark about the flashbacks he's been having, about being in the boiler room and visiting the manufacturing company in the weeks leading up to the explosion. Mark realises that this is why Paige was asking questions. Mark says John has an alibi, but John thinks she could be lying. He also suggests that Paul was set up. John doesn't know why he'd be remembering this if he wasn't involved somehow.
Cue Titles
Number 28
Susan gets a message from Karl. She tells Sheila that he's checked with emergency staff and the kids haven't been taken in to hospital overnight. She thinks if Angus hadn't run off, Xanthe and Ben would be safely at home. Susan says Angus wouldn't have run off if Xanthe hadn't told him about her mother's illness. Gary arrives, he's been driving around but there's been no sign of them. He thinks they should speak to the police. Sheila wants to know more about Angus and his mum.
Off Air
Ben wakes up on a bench in the bar. He calls out for Xanthe and Angus but they aren't there. Ben checks his phone, he has five missed calls from Sheila, Susan and Karl, and a text from Xanthe which reads 'Angus bailed. Gone after him.'
Road somewhere
Xanthe catches up with Angus and asks where he's going. He says Bali and he'll hitchhike his way there. Xanthe tries to talk him out of it. A car stops for Angus and he gets in. Xanthe tells the car to wait, as she's coming with him.
Harold's
Mark is on the phone, presumably to Det. Crabb, explaining that he knows he's off the case but John came in and wanted to speak to someone. Mark thinks John's a credible witness. Paige races in and asks Mark what is going on with John. Mark explains he's in an interview room. Paige apologises for sussing him about the boiler room, she was trying to prove John wrong. Mark says John's said enough to make him question what he thought was rock-solid. He wants to believe that he got the right guy, but guesses Paul could have had an accomplice. Paige doesn't think it could have been John, as Paul would have pinned it on him if he could. Mark says John described the boiler room, he was there. Paige knows John couldn't have done something so cold blooded.
Erinsborough Police Station
Detective Ellen Crabb is questioning Wendy, with Mark. Ellen gets Wendy to confirm that she saw John Doe before the explosion and asks if she could have been mistaken. Wendy stands by her original statement. Mark checks Wendy is absolutely certain about the time she saw John. Ellen says that's enough and lets Wendy go. Mark starts looking through the file, telling Ellen that they've got credible new evidence. Ellen says an amnesiac patient who may have been in a boiler room at some time is not credible evidence. Ellen says it is not worth their time, the case is closed.
Number 28
Sheila, Susan and Gary are sitting impatiently by the phone. Sheila says the last time she got a text from Xanthe she told her not to worry, but Sheila says that doesn't make her feel any better. Sheila says this stress is going to kill her. Ben arrives and hugs Susan. Ben explains he was at Off Air with Xanthe and Ben but they've gone off. Ben says Angus wants to leave the country but Ben's taken Angus's passport so he won't get far. They ask Ben to try calling Xanthe again. Xanthe picks up and says they've hitched a ride with a guy. As Sheila exclaims in shock, the phone cuts out. Sheila says Xanthe is who knows where, with a stranger in a car with a dead phone.
Somewhere
The car pulls up outside a house. The driver (Danny), says he won't be long, he's going to pick up a few mates. They'll make it a road trip and have some fun. Xanthe and Angus look extremely worried.
Number 28
Sheila is panicking about where Xanthe is. Ben suggests they use the 'find your phone' app to find out where Xanthe is.
SHEILA: I know her password!
SUSAN: How do you know her password?
SHEILA: I watched her type it in!
Ben says as long as Xanthe's phone is on they should be able to locate it.
Somewhere
Xanthe is going through the driver's stuff to check if he is who he says he is. Xanthe asks Angus how he knows which drivers are good and bad when he hitchhikes. Angus says he's never done this before.
XANTHE: The only reason I got in the car with you today is because I thought you had done this like a million times before.
ANGUS: Just relax, everything is going to be fine.
XANTHE: We are in the middle of nowhere, your phone is dead, my phone has like one bar, we're waiting for him to come back with his mates so that we can go on a road trip together. What part of that do you think is fine?
ANGUS: It's not like the world is full of crazy psychopaths who just cruise around looking for their next victim.
XANTHE: Would you really like to test that theory out with Danny and his mates in the middle of nowhere?
Xanthe and Angus decide to go. They leave the car and make a run for it.
Number 32
Paige tells Lauren that if John is responsible, then he killed Josh and Doug. Lauren says John's memories are troubling, but Paul has been convicted. Paige says Paul claims he was framed, maybe John did frame Paul, maybe that Justin guy helped him but Paige knows John is a good person. Lauren tells Paige to take a step back until the police have finished their investigation. Paige can't do that, she's in love with John.
Erinsborough Police Station
Ellen tells John that they've spoken to the witness, his alibi is solid and they can let him go. There's no evidence that links him to the explosion. Ellen understands John's memories are disturbing, but they believe he's innocent. Mark overhears and doesn't look happy. Ellen tells John to go home, forget about this and get on with his life. As John leaves, Mark tells Ellen that he still believes there is something worth following up here, and he will do it in his spare time if he needs. Ellen tells Mark to pull his head in, and if she even hears a whisper of him pursuing this, he will be looking for a new career.
Road Somewhere
Xanthe is worried those guys will come after them. Angus hopes to find a bus to take him to the airport. Xanthe tells him to look after his sick mum, but Angus doesn't think she wants him around. Xanthe tells him he can't go to Bali as Ben took his passport.
ANGUS: You are so lucky you're a girl right now.
XANTHE: Why because I have to look after an idiotic boy?
ANGUS: Look I didn't ask for you to get involved.
XANTHE: Okay, you need to stop with this tough guy act, your mum is dying and clearly you are putting on a front, but running away, that is not going to help.
ANGUS: I'm not running, I'm trying to look after myself.
Xanthe spots Danny's car on the road behind them. They start running as the car chases after them. Xanthe and Angus run to stop a car which is approaching in another direction, and are relieved when they see Gary emerge from the car with Ben. Gary gives Xanthe a hug. Danny and his mate slowly drive past, while Angus and Ben shake hands.
Number 28
Gary returns with the kids, telling Susan he's glad they got there in the nick of time.
XANTHE: Dad and Ben came to the rescue like X-Men. They were crazy lit.
Angus passes Susan the money he found at Off Air. Gary tells Angus to think twice before he does something that stupid again. Gary and Xanthe leave to tell Sheila. Angus looks nervous about explaining himself to Susan.
The Waterhole
Mark has a beer with Tyler and Aaron, telling them he can't shake the feeling that there is more to this case. Mark is worried that Paige is getting into something dangerous with this guy. Tyler asks if this has more to do with him and Paige than it is about John. Mark assures Tyler that it isn't about Paige, he's with Steph now and they've both moved on. Tyler says he'll be hated if he goes after this. Mark says he owes it to Josh and Doug to make sure the right person is punished.
Number 28
Susan says that he and Xanthe could have landed in so much trouble. Angus apologises, but he wasn't thinking straight. Susan asks to make a deal, if he keeps talking to them and toe the line then they can wipe the slate clean and start afresh. Angus agrees. Susan just wants to help him. Angus thinks it's hard because of what's happening with his mum, being dragged out of school and brought to Australia. Xanthe kept convincing him to come home but he doesn't know where that is anymore. Susan tells him it's okay to be upset. Angus knows his dad doesn't want him, but Susan and Karl welcomed him and he thought that maybe this could be home. Then he realised they were only being nice because they felt sorry for him. Susan says they did feel sorry for him but they also really like him, there's no other reason. Angus hugs Susan.
Lassiter's Lake
Paige tells John he was very brave for going to the police, but she's pleased he's in the clear. John invites her to celebrate but she says she can't.
PAIGE: I can't go for dinner with you because I would be sitting there wishing it was more. And I know that's not what you want. And I'm trying really hard to be a good friend and not a needy pushy person who just wants to jump you every time I see you.
(Try harder Paige.) John tells Paige he wants to be more than friends, he doesn't know how he got here and he has nothing to offer her. Paige walks off but John calls her back. They kiss.
Number 26
Gary tells Xanthe he wanted his return to be a surprise, Xanthe says it was the best surprise ever. Gary says if it wasn't for Ben they wouldn't have found her. Xanthe apologises, even though technically it wasn't her fault. Gary asks why it was so important that she help Angus. Xanthe says she felt sorry for him, she knows how it feels to have no options and no one that cares for you. Gary is sorry if she ever felt that way. Xanthe asks if that means she isn't in trouble. Gary wants her to stay on the straight and narrow so they can give Sheila a break for a while.
XANTHE: There's something I should probably tell you.
GARY: Is this about Angus?
XANTHE: No it's about this guy, Tom Quill, and the hotel explosion, and some money we found.
Erinsborough Police Station
Mark interviews Wendy again. He got a bank statement of hers with a warrant. Mark says she had a series of large deposits in the weeks after the explosion and had a bit of a shopping spree afterwards. He asks where she got the money. She claims she was left a big tip by some customers. Ellen meanwhile sees the interview and comes in, asking to speak to Mark. Mark shows Ellen the bank statement.
WENDY: I can't do this anymore. You are right, I was paid to lie.
