No 32
Paige is attacking her punchbag, while Piper watches, bored. John turns up and asks to talk to Paige alone.
PIPER: Yeah, be my guest. She's in a bit of a mood.
Paige is indeed in a mood, and first has a go at John for kicking her out yesterday, and then for kissing Mandy last night.
JOHN: You saw that?
PAIGE: Yeah.
JOHN: She just thought it would trigger some memories.
PAIGE: How did that go for you? (!)
JOHN: Paige, she's the first person who's come looking for me. She's the only one who knows something about me right now.
PAIGE: Okay. I'm angry. I'm wearing boxing gloves. And you need to leave.
Paige pummels the punchbag again.
The titles roll.
No 26
A forlorn-looking Xanthe is flicking through images of herself on social media, when Sheila comes in and offers her breakfast.
XANTHE: No thank you. I'm not actually hungry.
SHEILA: You are fading away to a shadow.
XANTHE: Yeah, right (!)
Xanthe claims she's going out for a shopping trip with Alison Gore. Sheila is surprised given how nasty Alison's been to Xanthe. While Sheila's talking to her from the other room, Xanthe reaches into her bag and looks at a bottle of 'Herbal Arnica Tablets' for muscle pain and bruising.
SHEILA: That girl has more faces on her than a town hall clock.
XANTHE: Yes, I thought you would be pleased (!) We're just burying the axe.
SHEILA: I think it's a hatchet.
XANTHE: Whatever.
Xanthe leaves, saying she won't be home till late.
Ramsay Street
Angus, Susan and Karl (in a colourful shirt) are leaving No 28 to go to Off Air - Angus's punishment for setting off the fire alarm is to scrub the filthy tables for a day.
ANGUS: I can't believe you actually own a bar.
KARL: What can I say? I'm a man of many talents.
ANGUS: Like pulling off that outfit.
Ben follows them out of the door.
BEN: You said Angus and I should hang out.
ANGUS: You just want to see me up to my armpits in filth.
BEN: You betcha.
ANGUS: You're such a moron.
Ben tells them to wait while he rushes over to talk to Xanthe, who's just leaving No 26.
XANTHE: Hey.
BEN: It's been a while.
XANTHE: Yep.
BEN: I was gonna call you, but...
XANTHE: No, it's fine. I was being a little bit of a cow.
BEN: I wasn't being a very good friend. I deserved it. I'm going down to Off Air to watch Angus get what's coming to him. Want to join?
XANTHE: ... Actually, I have something that I need to do.
Looking uncomfortable, she rushes off.
No 32
Paige and Piper are hanging out in the spa. Paige whinges that John doesn't want her. Piper tells her to let John do his own thing, and to do some digging in the meantime, to find out if Mandy's legit. But Paige has already scoured social media.
PAIGE: Do you know how many Jason Joneses there are in this state alone?
Piper tells Paige she needs someone with 'next-level online stalking capabilities'.
PAIGE: You're talking about Bailey, aren't you?
PIPER: Yes.
Paige is all but ready to give up, but Piper tells her to stop being a quitter and find out the truth - she owes it to herself, and John.
Robinson's Motel
Paul is surprised to see Amy and Jimmy waiting outside his room, as he'd told Amy to have nothing more to do with him.
AMY: Please don't shut us out. We want to be a part of your life.
PAUL: Why? When I cause so much hurt?
JIMMY: Not to me, you don't. Some of the best times we've had was when we were together.
Jimmy's brought his chess board in a bid to cheer Paul up.
JIMMY: You know, until I beat you.
Paul reluctantly lets them in, but while Jimmy sets up the chess, he tells Amy he's resigned to going to jail, and isn't going to fight it.
PAUL: What's the point? When the people I care about the most think I'm guilty as well?
Paul admits that even his lawyers won't return his calls! He just doesn't have the strength to fight anymore.
No 26
Paige barges past Mandy to see John, but he's out the back. Mandy expresses a wish to make things better with Paige after they got off on the wrong foot - she understands Paige's position.
MANDY: Jason's a great guy. Anyone would fall for him. I did. So I understand why you're acting the way that you are.
PAIGE: Oh, I'm acting the way that I am because I don't trust you. And now I have proof.
Paige explains that Bailey has done a search comparing John's face to all the Jason Joneses in Australia, and come up with nothing.
MANDY: What are you saying? That he's been lying to me? Pretending to be someone that he's not?
PAIGE: No, I -
But Mandy interrupts with sudden tears, saying that her relationship with 'Jason' feels so real. Paige seems surprised. John comes in, and asks what's going on. Paige tells him there are some things that don't add up, but John interrupts, saying he and Mandy need space.
PAIGE: You need to know the truth.
JOHN: Yeah, and I will find it, but not here.
PAIGE: What do you mean, not here?
JOHN: Mandy and I - we're going back to Geelong.
Off Air
Outside the bar, Angus is hard at work doing chores for Karl, while Susan reads the paper nearby. Meanwhile, Ben and Piper are talking about Xanthe; Ben expresses concern that she's acting strangely. They each feel bad for not going to her party, but Ben thinks it has more to do with Angus.
BEN: I found out that they were going to... you know.
PIPER: What? Are you serious?
Piper decides they need to go and check on Xanthe to make sure she's okay. Ben announces to the Kennedys that they're leaving, and Karl suggests they take Angus, as he deserves a break. But none of the kids like the sound of that idea, and Angus opts to stay and scrub tables.
Harold's Café
Toadie is at a table when Amy arrives, to ask him something 'pretty out there'; she wants Toadie to take a look at Paul's court case, which is due in a few weeks. Toadie doesn't seem keen.
AMY: He's not doing well, Toadie. He's depressed, and he's just given up. It's so unlike him.
TOADIE: Okay. Well maybe he's coming to terms with his own guilt.
She explains Paul's lawyers have been giving him the runaround.
TOADIE: Amy, listen, I know he's your father. But two of our friends died in that explosion.
AMY: Yeah, I know. And I'm not saying he shouldn't be held accountable. But he's scared. And he doesn't know what's gonna happen to him. Can't we at least give him some clarity? Just to help him get through the next few weeks?
No 26
John and Mandy are talking to Sheila about their imminent drive to Geelong, which Mandy says will give them a chance to get to know each other.
SHEILA: Or kill each other. Either/or!
There's a knock at the door. Sheila goes to answer it, while John thanks Mandy 'for everything'. At the door are Ben and Piper, come to see Xanthe. Sheila explains she's out with Alison, which makes them even more worried - so Piper asks if she can go and fetch something that she left in Xanthe's room. Sheila lets them in, and they head into Xanthe's bedroom.
Rush Street Clinic
A sad-looking Xanthe enters a waiting room, and looks around nervously. She looks at various advertisements on the wall, for cosmetic procedures like liposuction and buttock implants.
Off Air
Angus and Susan are still hanging around outside the bar. Susan asks if Angus has thought about building bridges with Ben; he says no, but she points out that he could be here for a while, before realising she's said too much.
ANGUS: Why? Have you spoken to my mum? What did she say?
SUSAN: ...
KARL: What Susan means is, we're still not sure if your mum's contract is gonna be extended.
Angus is worried.
Robinson's Motel
Paul and Jimmy are playing chess when Toadie arrives. He explains to Paul that Amy's sent him to discuss the case. At first Paul says he's not interested.
TOADIE: Get over yourself, Paul. Amy's stuck her neck out for you.
PAUL: I didn't ask her to.
He explains that he wanted Jimmy and Amy to keep their distance from him. But Toadie says Amy's putting aside her own feelings for Paul's sake - adding that he didn't have to come here either.
TOADIE: So the least you could do is hear me out.
Paul grudgingly agrees, but keeps breaking off the conversation to make chess moves - while the rest of the time, he and Toadie talk in hushed voices. Toadie reveals that he's learned Paul's lawyer is an incompetent newbie who's in no way ready for a double manslaughter trial. If Paul's found guilty, Toadie says, he's looking at 15-20 years in jail. Jimmy overhears this and looks worried.
TOADIE: Now Amy's told me that you're done fighting this. But I'd seriously reconsider. Otherwise...
JIMMY: Checkmate.
Off Air
Karl and Angus are now indoors as Angus continues to clean tables etc.
ANGUS: This must be hard for Susan.
KARL: Sorry, what's hard?
ANGUS: Me being here. The son of a woman that you once had a fling with.
KARL: What prompted you to say that?
ANGUS: Look - I know she doesn't like my mum. Uncle Mal told me heaps of times.
KARL: What happened, it was a very long time ago.
ANGUS: Right, so you love Susan. And you would never want to remind her of that? Yet still, I'm here, living with you?
KARL: Angus, where is this coming from?
ANGUS: I just... got to thinking. It's very strange.
KARL: Well, we're all friends now. That's all that matters.
Angus looks confused.
Harold's Café
Paige is sitting around looking pensive. She suddenly smiles as a plan forms...
No 26
Paige calls round to see John and Mandy, ostensibly to make amends for not being supportive of their situation. To indicate her goodwill, she's brought a takeaway pizza - and suggests Mandy go and get plates so they can have a meal together. While Mandy's in the kitchen, John thanks Paige for making the effort. When Mandy returns, Paige forces a smile.
PAIGE: I'm not a huge fan of Hawaiian, but this guy loves it!
Remembering his pineapple allergy, John immediately realises what Paige is doing, but remains silent.
MANDY: I know, it's his favourite!
JOHN: ... Favourite?
MANDY: Yeah. Ham and pineapple fiend! It's a little boring sometimes.
JOHN: ... Err, I'm actually not that hungry. Why don't we make a move?
MANDY: Oh. Okay. Well at least we'll beat the traffic.
JOHN: I've been meaning to ask - the scar on my shin. Where does that come from?
MANDY: It was a weekend at Mount Buller. Let's just say that skiing isn't your forte.
JOHN: ... Mandy, I don't have a scar on my shin.
Mandy tries to cover, but John then reveals he's allergic to pineapple.
MANDY: ... Of course. It's been so long.
JOHN: You're not actually my girlfriend, are you?
MANDY: ... No.
Off Air
Outside the bar, Ben and Piper confront Angus, showing him a card they've found in Xanthe's bedroom for the Rush Street Clinic. They seem to have concluded that it could be an abortion clinic.
PIPER: You guys were... careful, weren't you?
ANGUS: We didn't do anything, okay? We stopped before anything happened.
Piper looks up the clinic online, and realises that it's a cosmetic surgery specialist. She and Ben look confused.
Robinson's Motel
Paul and Jimmy are in the storeroom.
JIMMY: I'm really gonna miss you when you go to jail.
PAUL: If I go to jail. We don't know what's gonna happen yet, mate.
JIMMY: But Toadie thinks you will.
PAUL: Alright. Maybe I will go away. I don't want to. But the important thing is that you understand that I didn't do it, okay?
JIMMY: ...
PAUL: Jimmy? You do believe that I didn't do what they say, don't you?
JIMMY: ... Well, I know you didn't *mean* to do it.
Paul looks broken.
Off Air
Outside, Susan and Karl are discussing Angus. Karl suspects he's enjoying living with them more than he's letting on. At that moment, Susan notices that Angus has parked himself on a nearby table with a bottle of beer!
KARL: Hang on, what are you doing?!
ANGUS: What does it look like?
KARL: Oh, come on, hand it over.
ANGUS: I've had a few before.
KARL: Yeah, alright. Not on my watch, you haven't.
ANGUS: If you don't like it, send me back to London.
SUSAN: Oh, we're not gonna send you back to London.
ANGUS: Why do you put up with me? I don't get it.
KARL: Oh, Angus.
ANGUS: You're my father, aren't you?
KARL: What?!
ANGUS: You and Mum had a fling. It's the only thing I can think of.
KARL: Hang on!
ANGUS: I knew it.
Angus storms off before Karl can properly refute his suggestion. Susan tells Karl to let him go.
No 26
Mandy is about to leave, the explanation for her lies having apparently been skipped altogether. But we do learn she met John on the day of the explosion.
JOHN: Mandy, when we met, the morning of the explosion, was there anything I said - anything - that'll help me with my background?
MANDY: Just that you were passing through, and that you liked the area.
JOHN: No names, addresses?
MANDY: ... I did remember you being a bit distracted, though.
JOHN: By what?
MANDY: You didn't say. Just that you had something you needed to do. That's right - and someone you were anxious to find.
Wishing him luck, a sad-looking Mandy leaves.
PAIGE: Wow. What a nutter. Do you want me to call the cops? Really, because she should be locked up.
JOHN: Paige, just let it go. Please. For a moment, I thought I was getting my life back.
PAIGE: You still can.
Rush Street Clinic
Xanthe is still waiting for her appointment. Piper and Ben burst in.
PIPER: Plastic surgery? Xanthe, are you serious?
XANTHE: What? It's fine, okay?
BEN: It's not fine. It's a huge deal.
XANTHE: Everyone is doing it.
PIPER: What are you even having done?
XANTHE: ...
Piper snatches the paperwork on the desk and reads it.
PIPER: Breast augmentation? Xanthe, you don't need this!

Ben looks concerned.
XANTHE: If you guys aren't here to support me, can you please just leave?
PIPER: Does this have anything to do with Angus?
XANTHE: No! No, this is about me. I want to do this.
BEN: But why?!
XANTHE: I can't just be plain old Xanthe.
PIPER: Xanthe, you're not plain. You're beautiful.
XANTHE: I've already made up my mind. Besides, today is just a consultation. Can you please just go?
Piper sighs, and she and Ben leave. Xanthe looks upset.
Robinson's Motel
Amy arrives to find Jimmy on his own, waiting for her. Paul has gone, Jimmy explains - he just put some things in a bag and left. He's written a note for Amy, which Jimmy gives to her. Paul's also taken off his curfew anklet, which is lying on the sideboard. Amy reads the note.
PAUL (voiceover): My dearest Amy, by now you'll know what I've decided to do...
The Road Out Of Town™
Paul walks up the road, looking a sorry sight with his baseball cap on, his arm in a sling and his bag of clothes.
PAUL (voiceover): ... And if I know you, you won't be happy about it. But if you know me, you'll know the last thing that I want...
Robinson's Motel
An upset Amy is still reading.
PAUL (voiceover): ... Is to tie you and Jimmy into visiting me in jail for the next twenty years...
The Road Out Of Town™
Paul is still walking...
PAUL (voiceover): ... You know, finding you and Jimmy is the best thing that's happened to me in a long time. So go on - go and make brilliant lives. You'll always be in my heart. Love, Dad.
Pausing for an emotional second, Paul crosses the Erinsborough municipal boundary, and keeps on walking.
