No 22
We pick up exactly where we left off, on the patio. Daniel's about to explain what he was doing on the laptop, but Imogen interrupts - accusing him of only having been talking to her as a pretext to get access to Paul's stuff.
IMOGEN: You haven't changed at all!
DANIEL: I was here to see you.
IMOGEN: You're lying.
DANIEL: I'm not. Paul's laptop was open, and...
IMOGEN: I am so done with your excuses. How can anyone trust you?
At this point Terese arrives and asks what's going on. Daniel again begins to explain what he was looking for, but trails off, saying it doesn't matter and that he'd better go.
Cue titles.

Steph is extolling the virtues of riding a motorbike to a less-than-convinced Amy, when Sheila comes in. She reports that she's just heard Nate's left town, and that no-one knows how long he's gone for. Sheila's worried about covering Nate's shift at The Waterhole, but Steph offers to step in. Sheila's not keen, but Amy reminds her that Steph used to run the place.
Kyle comes in and hurries Sheila along - they're late for meeting Toadie prior to Bossy's council hearing. Sheila reluctantly gives Steph the keys to The Waterhole, but seems keen to retain the power in the relationship by giving her very specific instructions. Steph leaves to get started, while Amy wishes Kyle luck at Bossy's hearing.

Terese and Imogen discuss Daniel. Terese is curious as to what Daniel wanted with Paul's laptop; Imogen doesn't know (as she didn't stop to ask) but explains how Daniel previously leaked Paul's hard drive contents onto the web, then did everything he could to save Paul's empire out of guilt for what he'd done.
IMOGEN: Before I caught him on the laptop, we were really getting along. It was like how things used to be. But he was just using me, the whole time.
Power Street
Josh is driving to the garage with Piper. Tyler and Aaron are working; Tyler looks shifty as Josh's car pulls up. Piper coldly walks into the garage to begin work, while Josh chats to the Brennans about Nate's departure; Aaron's not sure what it will mean for their relationship. Aaron offers to give Josh's car a wax and polish, and Josh agrees. But he notices Tyler looking across at Piper...
History Wall
Kyle and Toadie convene with Sheila to report back from the council meeting. Kyle reveals that the council has said Bossy has been well-behaved since being impounded, and so can come home - but given that the vet's report on Bossy's brain tumour is still forthcoming, only provided that all the other residents at No 26 agree to her return.
Sheila is okay with this, but points out to Kyle that she's not sure that Amy will be, given how upset she was when Bossy bit Jimmy. Sheila rushes off to work to check up on Steph, telling Kyle to go and talk to Amy.

Terese has told Paul about Daniel accessing his laptop. Paul's convinced he's booby-trapped the computer or done something otherwise untoward. Terese asks Paul if Daniel sent him anything for his birthday, and Paul remembers that he did in fact get an e-card from Daniel, which he sent straight to his junk mail!
TERESE: ...
PAUL: What?!
TERESE: Do you have any idea how far Daniel tried to pull you back from the brink?
PAUL: To undo the damage that he did?
TERESE: No, to do the right thing for somebody he loves. I mean, Daniel's made a lot of mistakes. But his loyalty to you goes beyond question. And for somebody who's as short on friends as you are, that should mean something!
When Paul dismisses this, Terese notes the heavy irony of Paul being upset with Daniel for doing questionable things to protect the people he loves.
TERESE: I wonder where he learned that from?
As Terese leaves, Paul logs into his email and retrieves the birthday e-card from his junk mail folder. It reads - 'My Dearest Uncle, I write this hoping that we can move forward, on better terms than we have ever been before. I love you and sincerely miss you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE P. Your nephew always, Daniel.'
Paul is moved.
Power Street
Piper is sitting outside Grease Monkeys. Josh, emerging with some food, catches her staring at Tyler, who's servicing a car across the road at the garage while Aaron cleans Josh's car.
JOSH: Tyler - I'm sensing a little vibe.
PIPER: Ooh. That must be very exciting for you (!)
JOSH: He's the guy you've got a crush on, isn't he?
PIPER: I don't do crushes.
Josh isn't buying her denials, however, telling her about Brad almost catching Tyler with a girl in the house last night - and eventually Piper admits it was her.
JOSH: Hey, look, Pipes, don't worry about it. I know what it's like to feel a certain way about someone and not have them reciprocate.
PIPER: How do you know he doesn't?
JOSH: Well I gathered you'd been hanging around with him, trying to get his attention. And he just assumed that Dad was gonna come to the wrong conclusion.
PIPER: The right conclusion. We kissed.
Josh is outraged.
JOSH: That's just massively inappropriate. You're sixteen, and he's...
PIPER: What, ancient? Yes, everyone keeps telling me that.
JOSH: Piper...
PIPER: Chill, okay? It's not going to happen again.
JOSH: Are you sure about that?
PIPER: Yes. Tyler's a typical bad boy. As if I'd fall for someone so obvious.
Josh doesn't look convinced.
The Waterhole
Sheila arrives for a report from Steph on how things are going. Everything's under control, but Sheila keeps picking holes in how Steph's been managing the place in her absence. When Steph says the punters were pleased to have her back in charge, Sheila reminds her it's a temporary position while Nate's away - and tells Steph off for her inadequate lime-cutting technique!
Meanwhile, Daniel's having dinner, when Paul comes in. At first he appears to confront Daniel about going through his computer, but then admits he worked out what Daniel was doing - checking Paul had received his e-card. Paul admits he has received it,
PAUL: Couldn't find it in your pocket to get me a real one, hey?
DANIEL: It seemed wasteful to spend money on something you'd just end up tearing up.
PAUL: Fair point.
Paul also admits he hadn't shown enough appreciation of how much Daniel tried to fix things for him following the hard drive leak.
DANIEL: Is this you showing your appreciation?
PAUL: Yep.
DANIEL: Do you want to join me?
PAUL: Nah. Enemy camp and all, you know. Listen, there is one more thing - even though I'm not really pleased with who you're working for, I'm very proud of what you're doing. Stepping up, making positive changes. Maybe I should take a leaf out of your book, hey?
DANIEL: Thank you, Paul. Is this your way of saying that you forgive me?
PAUL: Might be. Don't push it, though.
Paul smiles and leaves.

Kyle comes in and tells Amy the results of Bossy's hearing. Amy says she wants to agree to Bossy coming home, but that Jimmy has to come first. Kyle begs her to let Bossy come back, saying the council will put her down if Amy doesn't agree. Amy suggests that she and Jimmy could move out for a bit, since Kyle can't guarantee Bossy won't bite again. He says he'd be extra careful with her.
KYLE: I know it's a risk. But babe, please - just give Bossy another chance. Please.
The Waterhole
Sheila has progressed to picking holes in the roster Steph has drawn up. She's put Courtney (presumably Josh's ex) on the breakfast shift, but Sheila points out that...
SHEILA: The girl has no energy. She hibernates before noon. You've worked with her.
STEPH: Yeah. Okay. No Courtney.
SHEILA: Maybe I should take over doing the roster.
STEPH: What's wrong?
SHEILA: What?
STEPH: You have been finding mistakes in everything I'm doing. Now, my mum is a class-A nitpicker, but you, lady, are heading into legendary territory. What's going on?
SHEILA: Well, you're clearly a natural at this.
STEPH: And that's a bad thing because...?
SHEILA: We don't need two naturals.
STEPH: Ah. Well, who needs the stress of managing people like Courtney, anyway?
SHEILA: Well, there's quite the knack to it.
STEPH: Yeah, well - lucky you've got it. I've got my hands full as it is. You want to adjust it?
SHEILA: Oh, no. I think you're in control now.
Steph smiles as Sheila walks off.
Daniel is sitting alone, when Terese walks in and joins him. She says she admires Daniel's loyalty to Paul. Daniel asks how Imogen is.
TERESE: She's confused. She's been burnt by you so many times, it's only natural that she's jumped at the worst-case scenario. You're gonna have to work really, really hard to get her trust back.
Daniel says it was 'awesome' when he and Imogen were hanging out before - just like old times. Terese reveals that Imogen said the same thing.
DANIEL: I really miss her.
TERESE: Well, then make it right. But please, please don't hurt her again.
Power Street
Piper and Josh cross the road to rejoin Aaron and Tyler outside the garage. Josh pays Aaron for cleaning the car, while Piper pulls Tyler out from underneath the other car and tells him Josh knows they kissed. When Tyler asks how, Piper snaps at him for humiliating her.
TYLER: Look, I'm sorry if I led you on, okay? I'd never take advantage of you.
PIPER: You didn't. If anything it was the other way around.
TYLER: I'm too old for you.
PIPER: Paige is, like, a decade younger than Mark.
TYLER: Yeah, and they've had massive issues because of it.
PIPER: But they still make it work.
TYLER: That's not the point. They're adults - she's not in school.
PIPER: Oh, whatever! You're so gutless, I can't believe I ever went there!
Piper departs but, having overheard her shouting at Tyler, Josh comes out and tells Tyler to leave Piper alone.
Shortly afterwards, Tyler is explaining himself to Josh, who is annoyed to learn that Aaron had an inkling of a vibe between Tyler and Piper, too.
TYLER: It was just a kiss initiated by her, so I put the brakes on.
JOSH: Oh, right - so my tiny little sister pinned you down and kissed you against your will, did she?
TYLER: Well, yeah. Piper isn't totally innocent. She's had a few boyfriends back in Canada. And 16 isn't that young.
JOSH: It is when you're in your twenties!
AARON: Hey, Josh - calm down, there's no need to rip his head off. Brad's gonna do that.
TYLER: Thanks. Let's not share this with Brad, okay?
JOSH: Okay, fine. But on one condition - you don't ever, ever mess with Piper again.
Tyler nods and looks upset.
The Waterhole
Amy and Kyle talk. She explains that, since it's always been just her and Jimmy up until now, he's always been her first priority.
AMY: But I've been forgetting about someone else who's really important to me. I love you. And I know how much you love Bossy.
KYLE: She's been with me through everything.
Amy says she wants Bossy to come home, and Kyle kisses her, promising he'll do everything he can to keep Jimmy safe.
KYLE: For the record... I love you too.
They kiss some more.
Harold's Café
Josh joins a glum-looking Piper at a table, and apologises for giving her a hard time.
JOSH: It's only because you're my baby sister and I love and care about you.
PIPER: Okay, but you don't need to protect me. It's not like Tyler's this creepy old man. You know, the way he acts sometimes, you'd think he was sixteen.
JOSH: You really like him, huh?
PIPER: We just click, you know? We have the same sense of humour and he is really cool. But I dunno - yeah. I like him.
JOSH: Well maybe you could just stay Really Good Friends.
PIPER: Or maybe we could be together. I know he likes me as well.
JOSH: Are you sure? Or are you just seeing what you want to see?
PIPER: I know how to read people. He's just stopping himself for some reason.
JOSH: Yeah, because it's wrong, Piper.
PIPER: Well it feels right.
JOSH: He's too old for you. And he's a player.
PIPER: I'm sure someone's said that about you at some point.
JOSH: Well, yeah, but I wouldn't let you go out with someone like me either!
PIPER: Sorry, you wouldn't let me? Why are trying to be my big brother all of a sudden?
JOSH: Look, Piper. I know I haven't been there for you recently - but can't you see that this is me trying to make up for that?
PIPER: Okay, fine, then just make it up to me by staying out of it! It's very sweet of you to try and protect me, but I don't need you to, alright? I'm a big girl.

Daniel has come round to talk to Imogen. He asks how he can make things better. Imogen isn't sure, admitting she feels like she doesn't really know who Daniel is anymore.
DANIEL: You know me perfectly.
IMOGEN: How can I? All this talk about change and growing up, and living the real world - who is that going to make you?
DANIEL: Look, when I saw your mum, she made me see that I need to show you the kind of loyalty that you deserve. So how's this - I'm trying to be a better person so that I can deserve you.
IMOGEN :Really? Because you said you wanted to be friends.
DANIEL: Yeah, I do. I did. But when we were hanging out before, I felt something - I still feel something. Imogen, I miss you. I miss you bossing me around; I miss the way we argue; I miss kissing you. Most of all I just miss having you by my side.
IMOGEN: I miss you too. Sometimes so much it makes me crazy.
DANIEL: Then can we just forget that this break ever happened?
IMOGEN: I can't.
DANIEL: But you just said -
IMOGEN: I can't do this on blind faith anymore. I don't want to be with someone who's under construction. You want to fix yourself, then, good, you should do that. But you've made your choice. Now I'm making mine.

Sheila is hugging Amy for having agreed to let Bossy come home, when Kyle comes in with Bossy herself. Kyle kisses Amy again, deeply grateful for letting it happen.
AMY: Stop it! Bossy will get jealous!
Amy goes out to the back yard, to fetch some new toys she's bought Bossy. But in the meantime, Kyle attempts to get close to Bossy, and she bites him. Sheila overhears, but a shaken Kyle asks her to let it go.
SHEILA: Amy's never going to let her stay here if she's carrying on like that.
KYLE: That's why we're not gonna tell her, are we?
SHEILA: She deserves to know.
KYLE: If Amy finds out, then I'll be forced to put Bossy down. Is that what you want?
SHEILA: You know it's not!
KYLE: Then please, don't tell her. Let me handle this my way.
