Ramsay Street
"It's not as bad as it looks," Tyler tells Paige after she finally sees his injuries as they walk home. He refuses to seek medical assistance because he doesn't want to answer the question they will ask - how did it happen and instead asks her to get some painkillers for him and he'll be fine.
Number 28
Karl ropes Nate into helping him find some rogue receipts so he can complete his tax return, his favourite time of the year according to Susan!
Off Air
Daniel shows a potential buyer for the bar (Forrest) round the place and he seems quite pleased with what he sees. Imogen spots Forrest leaving and asks Daniel about him and he explains that he can't wait for the bar to return healthy profits (as he's got commitments to Amber/Junior) so plans on selling the bar and getting a regular job instead.
(Later)
Imogen returns with Amber and Josh in tow and his fiancée isn't pleased that the place is going to be turned into a martial arts venue. Daniel explains his rationale for selling, and admits he doesn't really want to sell, but circumstances are forcing that. "We'll manage," Amber tries to tell him and tries to convince him that selling up is not the right thing to do.
Number 24
Paige is surprised to see Mark home when she comes out of Tyler's room to get him some water. She then has to cover for him (saying that he's asleep) but refuses to confirm exactly why Tyler is asleep at 3pm!!! While Mark was after Tyler to play basketball with him, and Paige volunteers to play in his place, but he then suggests watching a Dr Who episode, which she is happy to agree to on condition they keep the sound down.
Just as she's about to head to Tyler's room with the water, Mark comments that she's too good for Tyler and how dumb was he letting her go!
Number 28
Karl is rabbiting on to Nate about tax when he shows him an account that's got a lot of interest. "I've never seen this," Karl says then looks a bit closer - it's an account Susan has set up in her maiden name.
NATE: Looks like she's squirreling money away in a secret account.
KARL: Nah, she wouldn't do that.
NATE: How well do you really know your wife?!
That question has really got Karl thinking!
Number 24
Mark and Paige discuss the episode of Dr Who they've just watched, which was a good one by the comments they are making.
Tyler appears from his room and Paige goes over to see him - he's after more (and stronger) painkillers but she points out that will require going to a doctor. Again, he refuses to seek medical attention and she reluctantly agrees to help him and after giving Mark an excuse as to why she's got to leave, exits the house.
Number 28
Karl confronts Susan with the bank statement as soon as she gets home. She downplays having the bank account, one that she opened when they separated and just never got round to closing it. "There's no deception," she cries and reassures him she's not planning on running away with the milkman! "Or am I?!" she teases him with seconds after saying the first part.
Number 22
Imogen is trying to get from her brother why he suddenly wants to help Daniel and accuses him of taking the 'who's the better dad' game too far. "Can you think about what's at stake?" she asks and he points out that's all he's thinking about because he fears Daniel won't stick around to look after a kid that isn't his. That's silenced Imogen and Josh accuses her of being as delusional as Daniel.
JOSH: I'm this baby's father forever. I'm going to be around long after Daniel moves onto the next commune so if you think that I'm going to apologise for putting my kids' needs before his you can forget it.
Number 28
Paige calls round to see if Karl can give her something to help Tyler's pain (without actually mentioning his name). He suggests the obvious over the counter meds (paracetamol/ibuprofen) but she says that's not strong enough and is told that he wouldn't prescribe anything without seeing her friend (she's suggested friend is afraid of doctors hence why they've not seen one) and she can't get anything stronger from a pharmacy without a prescription. "I really think your friend needs to see a doctor," he sums it up with.
Number 24
Paige is back with just over the counter meds for Tyler and after he complains that they aren't strong enough, says that she can't get anything without a prescription which means a visit to the doctors.
Mark inadvertently finds out that Tyler is hurt but they use the excuse he came off his bike, which Mark accepts readily. He turns down Paige's offer of having takeaway with her at #32 as he's going out with some work colleagues.
Tyler is unimpressed at Paige trying to hit on his brother especially as he is still bitter she was having coffee with Mark while he got done over, even though Paige points out she could have been bashed up too. He's not so sure on that point, suggesting that she could have warned him. "Are you blaming me for this?" she asks and he doesn't directly answer her question, instead saying that if she wasn't having coffee she'd have been there and "things may have played out differently."
Number 28
Karl still isn't happy about Susan having a separate bank account (even one that's years old) and eventually she explains that she likes having her own account... and money he doesn't know about so she can splurge without him knowing about it. "This is your mad money?" he asks and this leads into an argument about spending wantonly and Susan demanding that he spends as much as he wants.
KARL: I will.
SUSAN: I dare you!
Off Air
Karl is telling Imogen about his orders to spend wantonly from Susan (he fancies a $6500 guitar previously owned by Bruce Springsteen) and she suggests he uses the money to buy into Off Air to keep it afloat. "Maybe I should," he says laughing at her but when she walks away Karl begins to think about what she said.
Josh enters the bar and engages Forest in conversation (they have common ground in that both are sportsmen who had to give up their sporting careers due to shoulder injuries). Forest then hands Josh a business card for him to make contact as there is a possible job for him.
Number 24
Paige is telling Tyler about the chart she's made up to monitor his pain meds and wondering (since they still owe $6k) if Michelle will be the one to bash her "or get some thug to do it?!" When she goes into the livingroom to check on him (she's been in the kitchen) she isn't happy at how he is and wants to seek medical help but he refuses to as he fears the beatings he'll get inside will be worse. "Please Paige," he begs.
Off Air
Susan comes to see what Karl has bought and is stunned to hear Karl tell her he's bought into the bar (but refuses to say how much) however Daniel is extremely grateful at what he's done!
Josh expresses his commiserations to Forest that he's now not buying the bar although there is a plus side for him - he's still got a job out of their conversation. Forest's phone goes and Josh leaves to let him take it and tells the caller about their new employee.
FOREST: Former athlete, trouble with the cops, desperate for cash and the best thing is he's totally clueless.
Number 28
Paige is round to see Karl but Nate tells her he isn't in. He suggests to her she can wait (she will) and asks if she'll be okay as he's going out on a run but warns her to stay away from the tax stuff on the table!
Moments after Nate leaves, Paige goes over and opens Karl's medical bag and steals a prescription script from his pad and takes a photo of his signature on her phone before leaving.
Unmissable drama
- Paige handing over a bottle of stronger meds to Tyler.
- Mark puzzled when he checks Tyler's bike over.
