Previously on Neighbours

- Josh tells Amber that he will 'never, ever' forgive her for what she's done
- Chris's mum Patricia is arrested for stealing a watch, and Chris takes it out on Sonya
- Rebecca does her best to resist Paul's advances, but they end up falling into one another's arms
Paul's Penthouse
Rebecca is still in bed when Paul shows up with a breakfast trolley. He's in a ridiculously good mood after their having TITTNL, and tells her he plans to skive off his duties for the day so he can spend time with her.
PAUL: What's the point in attending mind-numbing mayoral functions when I can spend the day with the most stunning creature in the universe?
Rebecca is flattered by this rather dubious comment, but says she has to work today. But Paul tells her she might not have to do her job for much longer, if she quits and moves back to Erinsborough to be with him! Paul says he knows they still have a lot to work through, but that he thinks they can get there. He kisses her and tells her to think about it. Rebecca looks pensive.
No 26
Chris and Patricia are having breakfast in the garden. Chris is interrogating his mum about what she's getting up to after work, to make sure she isn't going out gambling. But she tells him to stop worrying; she can look after herself. We learn that Chris's dad George is coming home soon, and Patricia asks Chris not to tell him about her gambling.
CHRIS: No. But maybe you should.
PATRICIA: No.
CHRIS: If we take this on all together, we can beat it. Strength in numbers, you know?
PATRICIA: I can't. I'm sorry.
The Park
Josh is jogging through the park but his shoulder is still giving him grief. He gets a text from Imogen, asking to meet him in Harold's in ten minutes.
Harold's Store
Chris is talking to Toadie and Sonya about his mum's case. The court date is in two weeks, but Toadie says Patricia has a very good chance of getting off without a conviction. Once Chris has gone, Sonya thanks Toadie for being her 'rock' throughout the whole Patricia debacle. Sonya mentions an upcoming wrestling tournament on TV and suggests they should watch it together.
TOADIE: You don't like wrestling.
SONYA: No, I know, but I love you! So how does wrestling on TV and two pizzas and some snacks and the woman you love sound?
Toadie seems rather taken with this idea, and they kiss, before leaving.
Meanwhile, Imogen has summoned the Perennially Arguing Ones to Harold's in an attempt to stitch up their bruised relationship for the nineteenth time this month. When Josh realises he's been set up and that Amber's there, he makes straight for the door. But Imogen drags him back and sits them down together, where the bickering commences about who's in the wrong.
Josh is annoyed that Amber didn't believe he was done with the Bad Painkillers, but Amber says she hasn't anything to apologise for. Imogen leaves them to it.
Erinsborough Hospital
Brad and Terese are outside in the car; Brad is trying to call Josh as they are getting some test results back from his orthopaedic surgeon today. However, he doesn't appear to be answering.
As they head inside, Brad and Terese discuss the tension between them as a result of Lauren's revelations about her child with Brad. Terese is still struggling to digest it, but relations between them seemed to have thawed, as she tells him she knows it must be hard for him too. Terese is still keen to keep the news from the kids, however. Brad says it can't be forever, but agrees that for now, Josh needs their attention. Deciding they can't wait for Josh any longer, they decide to go and get the results without him.
Harold's Store
It becomes obvious that Josh is deliberately avoiding the meeting with the surgeon. Amber insists she was only looking out for him by telling Brad about the Bad Painkillers. While Josh is hurt that she didn't trust him, he tellingly doesn't deny that he might have considered taking them again had Amber not acted. Amber says she wants to help Josh get back on track; she believes he can come back from this and get back in the pool.
JOSH: I know I will.
AMBER: You've had some pretty major setbacks, but you're a champion. You can do anything you set your mind to; that's why I love you.
JOSH: Okay.
AMBER: Okay? You believe me?
JOSH: Yeah.
Josh gets a text from Brad, and Amber wonders why he's been ignoring his phone all the time they've been there. But Josh brushes it off, and suggests they go to the movies. They each declare their love for the other, Josh having somewhat reneged on his promise from the previous episode that he will 'never, ever' forgive Amber, to the surprise of absolutely nobody anywhere.
Lassiter's Complex
Patricia gives Chris the money back that she borrowed from him recently. He asks if she got it through gambling, but she says it's from her wages, and says she needs him to trust her - she's turned a corner with the gambling. Chris apologises for doubting her, and says he'll try to trust her. She kisses him.
Harold's Store
Rebecca runs into Susan, but tries her best to get out of a protracted conversation, not wishing to confront what happened last night. But Susan soon inveigles the truth out of her like the seasoned stickybeak she is - and before long Rebecca admits that she and Paul TITTNL. She also admits that she may have been lying to herself about staying in Erinsborough just to play cupid for Kate.
REBECCA: Go on, say it - you think I'm mad.
SUSAN: I think you're mad!
REBECCA: To be honest, it feels good.
SUSAN: Good?!
REBECCA: Like we've recaptured a little moment in time. Like all the bad stuff didn't happen.
If Susan raised her eyebrows any higher they'd get caught in the bread rack. She asks if they're getting back together; Rebecca doesn't know, but says she knows that Paul loves her, and that she used to love him.
SUSAN: But do you love him now?
REBECCA: I don't know if it's love. But I do feel something.
SUSAN: When you came back you were adamant. You just weren't interested.
REBECCA: I wasn't. But would it be so terrible if I changed my mind?
Charlie's
Never one to keep a confidence unnecessarily, Susan marches straight round to Charlie's and confronts Paul about him having TITTNL with Rebecca. Paul just gloats that Susan underestimated his reconciliatory prowess, and adds that he's asked Rebecca to move back to Erinsborough to be with him permanently.
SUSAN: This is madness!
Paul insists he's not deluding himself; he regrets the way he treated Rebecca, but wants to show her that he can change.
SUSAN: She's heard all that before.
PAUL: Really? And how many times have you heard it from Karl, eh? And look at the two of you now. Look, eventually, one way or another, I am gonna prove to Rebecca that we do belong together. I don't need to prove it to you, though!
Erinsborough Hospital
Terese and Brad are leaving. Terese has spoken to Imogen on the phone, who's told her that she saw Josh at Harold's earlier. They conclude he had cold feet about the appointment. Judging from their conversation, Josh's fears were well-founded.
BRAD: It's not fair.
TERESE: No, I know.
BRAD: How am I going to tell him? How am I going to look my son in the eye and tell him that he's - TERESE: Come on. Let's go home. We'll tell him together.
Paul's Penthouse
Rebecca arrives. Paul has arranged a romantic lunch, and says he has an even more lavish spread organised for the Twin Cities announcement later in the week. Paul says that he feels in some ways he was born to play the role of Erinsborough mayor, even if he did do it mainly to get Rebecca back. Rebecca agrees with him.
The subject quickly turns back to Paul's proposal of Rebecca moving back to Erinsborough. He offers to buy her a local business of her choosing, or the chance to be a lady of leisure if she'd prefer. Paul also says, rather presumptuously, that they would get her son Declan and his daughter India to move back to Erinsborough too. Rebecca says this would change her whole life. Paul tells her to take all the time she needs to decide, just as long as she'll give him the chance to prove he's changed. She raises a glass uncertainly.
The History Wall
Sonya has arranged to meet Patricia, who begins by saying she's not coming back to the Gamblers Anonymous meetings; with George coming back next week, she thinks her secret will be hard to keep if she's going to the meetings all the time. Sonya tells Patricia she's kidding herself - she still needs help.
PATRICIA: Thanks for your concern. And I mean that - you've been a great support. But I've made up my mind... I don't need your help anymore. And I'd like it if you could respect my wishes.
Which, needless to say, is like waving a red rag at a bull...
Harold's Store
Josh and Amber are back following their trip to the movies. Josh looks at his phone; he's missed seven calls from Brad, and is still avoiding going home to face the music. Amber then gets a text herself, and rushes off to organise a 'surprise', which she tells Josh he'll like...
Chris is sitting at another table, when Toadie and Sonya turn up. They've come in to buy snacks for their TV wrestling date, but guess what - Sonya has spotted Chris. In the interests of respecting Patricia's wishes, she makes a beeline for his table, and tells him he needs to help her convince his mum to keep attending the GA meetings. Chris asks for Sonya's advice on how to do this. Toadie comes over, all snacked up, but sees what's going on and selflessly tells Sonya to stay and help. Thus ending the prospect of their cosy afternoon together.
No 30
Toadie is at home with Nell. He gets a text from Sonya, telling him she'll be 'another hour or so' talking to Chris. Disappointed, he takes a seat and turns on the wrestling - but it's not the same without Sonya.
Lassiter's Complex
Rebecca stares up wistfully at the balcony of the Lassiter's mezzanine, from which she famously pushed Paul back in 2010. She has a flashback to that fateful night, remembering how Paul told her he loved her, seconds before she shoved him in a fit of rage. Susan turns up, and Rebecca unconvincingly claims she was admiring the canopy that Paul's had fitted since she was last in Erinsborough (perhaps, on reflection, to mitigate the possibility of any repeat incidents!) Susan and Rebecca take a seat outside Charlie's.
SUSAN: I hope I didn't come across as being judgemental before.
Susan? Judgemental? She explains she was 'shocked' and 'a bit concerned', but Rebecca says she understands.
SUSAN: It was the last thing I expected to hear. Oh - now I sound as if I'm being judgemental again, don't I?
REBECCA: A little bit.
But Rebecca goes on to say she's lucky to have Susan looking out for her. Since talking to Paul, Susan has formed the impression that he wants Rebecca back for the right reasons, but says she still wonders about Rebecca's own motivations.
SUSAN: Are you sure you're falling for him again? Or do you think maybe you're just somehow trying to fix the past?
REBECCA: Oh, Susan, it's got nothing to do with that. Look - as strange as it may seem, I think there's a chance that Paul and I could make it work again.
SUSAN: Wow! In that case, if you're happy, I'm happy!
Susan leaves, and Rebecca goes back to staring pensively at the Balcony of (Almost) Death.
No 22
Brad, Terese and Imogen wonder where Josh has got to, when he finally walks through the door. His parents tell him what the specialist said.
BRAD: He says your shoulder isn't healing the way he'd like it to; in fact it's worse.
TERESE: And after you overdid the training - you kept exercising under a blanket of painkillers -
BRAD: That did a lot more damage. Look, I'm sorry, mate. You're not going to make these Games. Or any others.
So there you have it, kids - don't do drugs. Guess there's nothing for it now but for Josh to show some humility and lay his swimming career, and this storyline, mercifully to rest.
JOSH: I want a second opinion.
BRAD: The scans are conclusive.
JOSH: Scans can be wrong.
TERESE: Sweetheart, we could get a hundred of them and they'd all be the same.
JOSH: Well you're both wrong. I can make the Games. Doesn't matter if you don't believe in me. I believe in me.
IMOGEN: Josh, of course we believe in you. That's not what they're saying.
JOSH: I'm still in the Commonwealth team. I'll pass that physical and I'll show you all.
BRAD: Be reasonable, okay. There's no point bashing your head against a brick wall.
JOSH: I'm not. But I'm not giving up either. I can't. And I won't.
And so it continues.
