Francesca is being unreceptive to Lucas's powers of persuasion. She says she warned Vanessa what would happen if she didn't go through with the wedding; Lucas argues that it was Vanessa's choice to make. Now she's terrified of giving birth, he explains, and says she needs Francesca there with her.
FRANCESCA: She's never needed me.
LUCAS: Do you know how petty that sounds? This isn't about you! It's about her!
FRANCESCA: You're not even a father yet. Maybe once you are you'll understand. No-one can hurt you the way your child can.
LUCAS: No, I won't understand that. No matter what choices my kid makes, or how much they hurt me. If they needed me, nothing could keep me away.
Sheila is decking out a hat-stand to look like a Christmas tree, when Georgia bursts in for the share-house Christmas bash that Kyle invited her to. Kyle comes out of his room and is pleased to hear Sheila's done his laundry - but less pleased that there's a new chores roster stuck on the washing machine! Neither is he over the moon about the rather gaudy and OTT Christmas crockery that Sheila's set out on the kitchen table. While Sheila gets the veggies on, Kyle complains to Georgia that he wanted this to be a housemates' affair; he loves his gran but wanted a day with his mates, as Sheila already controls Christmas Day in Frankston! Sheila calls Georgia to help with the sprouts...
Callum gets home from school, wanting to know if Sonya's had the baby; Toadie and Doula Alex tell him no. He's disappointed as he told everyone he'd have the day off tomorrow, but Toadie says he's going to school either way. Sonya comes out from the bath, and Toadie suggests they go down to the birthing centre as it's unusual that the contractions haven't progressed yet. Sonya insists she's having a home birth, however, and Alex backs her up, telling Toadie he shouldn't stress her out. He suggests Toadie call the midwives, give them an update and ask their opinion. Callum despairs.
Georgia and Sheila prepare veggies and discuss Christmas; Georgia explains she has to work on Christmas Day, but she's seeing the positive side of it. Sheila says Kyle could really do with Georgia's positive attitude about now after all that happened with Harley. Especially now he doesn't have Jade, Georgia points out.
SHEILA: You know, I didn't rate her much at the start. But there was more to Sporty than met the eye.
Georgia says Kyle really misses Jade, and hints to Sheila that this was why Kyle wanted to do the share-house Christmas, as a way of proving that life goes on and that he's in control. Realising that she's barged in and taken over, Sheila feels a bit guilty and offers to make herself scarce; after all, she's been invited to a spit-roast by Brian at the RSL! Sheila rushes off, leaving Georgia to explain to Kyle that he's back in charge; and that, since Rhys has gone AWOL, Kyle can now do the cooking.
At the hospital, Vanessa is 8cm dilated, but it's too late for an epidural. Vanessa's in a lot of pain, while Rhys seems mildly amused.
RHYS: You can tell this is your baby. It's been quiet for weeks, then suddenly, total chaos!
VANESSA: Where's Lucas?
RHYS: He'll be here. Don't worry.
Rhys goes out to call Lucas, but Vanessa begs him to stay with her. He tells her Caroline the midwife will look after her.

Lucas continues to attempt to persuade Francesca to come and see Vanessa, but Francesca claims Vanessa has been pushing her away her whole life. Lucas says Vanessa wants her there, but that ultimately it's her choice and she'll have to live with it. He starts to leave, and realises he has six missed calls; telling Francesca he thinks the baby's coming, he dashes back to his bike.
Chris, Aidan, Kyle and Georgia are feeling pretty stuffed after their Christmas lunch. They raise a toast and retire to the living room to open presents. Kyle has bought Aidan four cans of silly string and they all start spraying each other with them. Just as Kyle is leaping on top of Georgia on the sofa, a stranger walks through the door - it's Georgia's boyfriend, Scotty!
Alex the doula has come out for some fresh air and to give Sonya and Toadie some space. Toadie comes out for a chat; he's not comfortable with waiting around. The midwife on the phone said the labour did seem prolonged and that they could come in to the hospital if they were worried. Alex says he's only there to provide support for Sonya, but that there's no reason to think there's anything wrong. Toadie explains that the only reason Sonya wanted a home birth was because she had such a difficult and lonely experience giving birth to Callum in hospital, but that Toadie won't let that happen again. Alex reluctantly agrees to back Toadie up about going to the hospital, but says the final decision must be Sonya's.
Back indoors, Toadie begs Sonya to come to the hospital and check Jellyfish's heartbeat - and if it's all well, they can come straight back home. Sonya just gets mad; and when Alex tries to get her to agree, she gets madder still, saying the only reason Toadie went along with the doula idea was because he thought Alex was gay. Sonya strops off for another bath, while Toadie is still shocked by the revelation that Alex is straight!
Kyle hands Georgia one of the presents, which she donates to Scotty. It turns out to be a plastic pink tiara, but Scotty isn't comfortable putting it on, and refuses! Scotty watches with concern as Georgia puts the tiara on Kyle's head instead, while Chris and Aidan fetch a present they've brought for the house - a table football set! But before they can play, Aidan has to go to work, and Chris goes with him.
GEORGIA: Aidan and I work together at the hospital. Aren't they the cutest couple?
SCOTTY: What, they're together?!
Kyle challenges Scotty to a game of table football, and the match begins.
Vanessa is still very uncomfortable, as Rhys and Caroline try to reassure her. Again she asks where Lucas is, before promptly throwing up.
Lucas is speeding back towards Erinsborough on his motorbike.
Vanessa groans - she's worried about giving birth without drugs, but Rhys assures her the hardest part's nearly over.
Lucas goes under a bridge.
Caroline tells Vanessa to give her a big push on the next contraction. She pushes hard, while Rhys holds her hand.
The table football match turns ultra-competitive; Kyle scores a goal, but Scotty claims it doesn't count. He calls Kyle a dirty cheat, much to Georgia's bafflement, just as Sheila comes in. Georgia introduces her to Scotty. Sheila's not impressed with the state of the house, and they all start tidying up - but Sheila tells Georgia and Scotty they can leave the tidying up to Kyle, as he's obviously come a long way to see her. The pair head off, asking Sheila to say goodbye to Kyle for them. He comes back in and is disappointed to see that Georgia's gone.
Lucas is still riding...
Vanessa is still pushing - the baby's head is now visible.
Lucas goes through some traffic lights.
Vanessa pushes one last time, as Lucas pulls up outside and rushes through the doors. She's given birth to a baby boy! Vanessa is overcome with emotion at the sight of her son, and she's not the only one...
RHYS: I love you. I've never stopped loving you. Marry me!
RHYS: I've got a ring; I've had it for months. I was going to propose to you in Japan, but...
RHYS: Look, I know I stuffed everything up, I know that. I've never loved anyone as much as I love you. Marry me. Please.
Rhys and Vanessa kiss emotionally, as Lucas watches in horror through the window! Heartbroken, he walks away.
Toadie is panicking, and wants to call Karl over. Alex thinks it's a good idea, while Callum worries Sonya's been in the bath for ages. She suddenly emerges - her waters have broken in the bath, but she says the fluid is a green colour. Alex tells Toadie to call an ambulance; he tells Sonya to relax but that the green fluid could indicate a problem. Sonya starts tearfully apologising to Toadie, saying she should have agreed to go to the hospital sooner. He reassures her, while Alex calls the ambulance.
A terrified Sonya is loaded into the ambulance by paramedics, while Toadie tells her she'll be okay. He tells Alex they should never have left it this long, and asks him for reassurance; Alex says they couldn't have anticipated this and that the doctors will do everything they can. Toadie leaps in the ambulance with Sonya, while Alex and Callum follow in Alex's car.
