Number 32
Lucas (complete with a nice new short hairstyle that the future mother in law approves of!) zones out during wedding preparations, to dream that he and Vanessa marry for real. Back in the real world, Mrs V has them going through their vows and both are unimpressed with them (very traditional) and when she leaves to take a call, he suggests they re-write them but Vanessa doesn't want to because it will offend her mum. Since they are alone, she sincerely thanks Lucas for putting up and going through with the shotgun wedding. "It's nothing," he replies casually.
Harold's Store
Susan admits she is a bit apprehensive about going round to #28 for with her sister for brunch after deciding to put some space between them. Carmel thinks it's because she still loves Karl and although Susan agrees with that statement, she just doesn't want to be with him anymore.
CARMEL: So there's no chance of you two getting back together again?
SUSAN: Absolutely not.
Carmel reminds her she's said that before too but Susan replies that this time it's different since the separation was because they'd drifted apart. Susan also admits that she is fine if Karl finds someone else, because they are over.
Number 28
Karl welcomes his guests and the three of them banter away with each other.
Number 32
Vanessa and her mum clash over the flowers for the church. Lucas also picks up that Mrs V seems to be bypassing questions Vanessa is asking about her dad.
(Later)
Mrs V checks that the wedding dress is still going to fit the bride before she retires to rest.
Lucas decides to confront Francesca about Mr V and she admits he's finding it all hard to deal with and that she isn't sure if he will actually be at the wedding or not! He wants Mrs V to tell Vanessa today that her dad might not be at the wedding but she wants to delay doing that, to allow her to convince Tony (by phone) to come.
Harold's Store
Lucas is surprised to hear that Summer isn't working at the paper anymore when he pops in to collect his wedding suit that has been dry-cleaned. Oops though, Sum as gives him Rhys' suit instead before going back to give Lucas the right one.
Ramsay Street
Lucas confronts Rhys with the accusation that he's planning on turning up to his wedding. Rhys denies that, and its just coincidence his suit is into be dry-cleaned. Lucas then turns guilt-trip on him as to why Vanessa has to marry him, before warning him to stay away from the wedding.
Number 32
Vanessa leaves another voicemail message for her dad, worried why she can't get hold of him. Francesca explains that he just needs more time but Vanessa is getting upset over the prospect of her dad not being at her wedding. "What's the point of any of this?!" she asks them tearfully before walking out and Lucas gives Mrs V the look that says 'you have to tell her'.
Number 28
Karl's eggs Benedict have gone down a storm with Carmel, so much so she wants to know when his next gig is! Carmel asks if he's planning on going back to speed dating (he isn't) and as she chats to him about it more, Susan is getting more uncomfortable and wants them to leave but Carmel isn't in the mood to depart and goes to put the kettle on!
Harold's Store
Mrs V drops by with the wedding cake for them to decorate but the mood Vanessa is in, she threatens to call it all off. Francesca spells it out bluntly - she has to marry the baby's father before its born, and that Tony will come round once a) she's married and b) bubs arrives. Vanessa threatens to do the walk of shame by herself but Mrs V volunteers to accompany her on that journey.
(Later)
Rhys and Vanessa exchange looks when he comes in to pick up his dry cleaning. He then calls the hospital to cancel the leave day he's booked for tomorrow.
Lassiters Grounds
As they take a walk towards the complex, Carmel is still singing the praises of Karl and she eventually gets out of Susan why she's so glum - its hearing Karl make plans to settle down with someone that is making her feel uncomfortable. Susan confirms that she's happy for her sister and Karl to catch up again as long as she isn't tagging along!
Number 28
Summer shows Carmel into the house and they do the intros with each other. She also remarks, that when Carmel smiles, she has the same smile as Susan, which now it's pointed out, Karl can see too.
Carmel invites Karl to dinner (although he doesn't seem to twig that she wants it to be just them, not because Susan can't manage) and to seek his advice on internet dating since he's an expert! Karl agrees to give her some help and when she leaves, Sum remarks that she seems good fun, and Karl describes her as the "big sister I never had."
Lassiters Complex
Mrs V and Lucas drag Vanessa out of work to show off the car (a vintage one) that will take her to the church in style tomorrow. She is thrilled at the car and someone else watches on as the bride and groom to be share a hug - Rhys as he gets into his car in the car park.
Charlie's
Well he obviously didn't get far as Rhys sits nursing a beer and looking at the engagement ring Elaine gave to him (for Vanessa) when Lucas comes into the bar. With some Dutch courage inside him, Rhys saunters up to the bar as Lucas finishes the call to wind him up over the reason why he's marrying Vanessa.
RHYS: It's like nobody's doing it for the right reasons.
LUCAS: Well its happening. Doesn't really matter what the reasons are.
Rhys has been putting two and two together and confronts Lucas over why he is doing this.
RHYS: You're in love with her.
LUCAS: ...
Number 32
Vanessa rehearses the vows she will say to Lucas but as she gets to the end, she doesn't look very happy.
Charlie's
Lucas refuses to rise to Rhys' bait, who is acting like he's seen the light! "I'm the father of her child," is Lucas' rebuttal.
RHYS: That's all you are to her, you know that. You think if she marries you it's going to change the way she feels about me? It won't. It doesn't matter now anyway; she's not going to go through with the wedding, not once I show up.
LUCAS: She doesn't want you there Rhys. If she did, she would have invited you.
RHYS: And she doesn't want to marry you Lucas. Not for the right reasons.
Number 32
Vanessa repeats the last line of the vows, "I will love you and honour you all the days of my life" and still doesn't look any happier!
Charlie's
"If it weren't for her parents, she wouldn't even be considering it," Rhys reminds Lucas but all he does is remind him what will happen to Vanessa (from her family) if the wedding doesn't take place.
RHYS: They'll get over it but its Vanessa's life. It's her choice. I'm not going to let her make the wrong one.
Tomorrow on Neighbours
