Previously on Neighbours
- Karl tries online dating, but goes overboard on his date with Olivia.
- Toadie tells Kyle to get a new housemate.
- Andrew arranges to have an overnight test.
- Paul sees Andrew having a fit in Charlie's, and Andrew tells Paul he has epilepsy.
Charlie's
A concerned looking Paul asks Andrew how long he's known about his condition. Andrew says since the accident. Paul wants to know how many fits he's had, but Andrew doesn't want to discuss it now. Paul wants to know why Andrew didn't come to him straightaway, to which Andrew replies that Sophie was worse off and they had just bought a bar, which was important to him.
PAUL: How do you think you're going to go running a bar when you're dead?
Tash gives him a death stare, and Paul asks who else knows. Andrew says just Karl and Aidan. So Paul assumes Andrew is getting treatment. Andrew says he's dealing with it. Paul points out he's not, because they've just had to close the bar because of his seizure. Tash says he'll have another if Paul doesn't stop going on at him. Paul asks about his treatment. Andrew says he's taking medication. Paul says Andrew's an idiot and Karl's more of an idiot because he's not getting the proper dosage. Andrew confesses that he got the meds online.
PAUL: You know, you are even dumber than I gave you credit for.
Tash tells Paul that Andrew is booked in to the hospital for tests. When Paul asks why he's not there, Andrew says he didn't want Paul to find out. Paul says they're going now, and he and Tash lift Andrew to his feet and they head off.
Hospital
Tash and Andrew are sitting on a bed. She tells him that Paul will calm down. Andrew is worried about whether he'll lose Charlie's. Aidan comes in to tell them that Paul is outside. Tash says that Paul knows. Paul walks into the treatment room and bluntly asks Aidan where the doctor is. Aidan says he was getting Andrew ready for the test. Paul is frustrated by the non-answer, and wants to know why Andrew's epilepsy wasn't picked up earlier. Aidan says that the symptoms can take a while to manifest. Paul sarcastically asks if that's Aidan's expert medical opinion. Aidan says he's not a doctor, adding that Paul's support means a lot to Andrew. Paul asks again for the doctor and Aidan leaves. Andrew tells Paul he'll only be a couple of nights at the most and then he'll be back at work. Paul says he's not fit to manage the bar, and he's not sure he can trust him.
No 28
Karl is messaging someone on his dating site saying he's looking for a long-term relationship. He answers the door to Susan, who's dropping off some stuff for Summer. Karl hides the dating site, but a reply pops up, and Susan looks to see what it is. She's surprised to see it's a dating site. He's a bit defensive and says he's just joined.
KARL: I'm allowed to have fun.
She agrees, and says she's OK with him dating casually. After all, she's already been there. Karl remembers Bernard, doing a yoga pose for good measure!
Harold's
Summer and Chris are chatting when Susan comes in and asks Summer how she is. Summer says she's not taking things too seriously and she's in a good place. Chris asks if she's going to start dating. Summer's not sure, so Susan says she and Karl can compare notes. She explains that she knows about the dating site, adding that it's good that Karl's not taking it too seriously. Chris says yes, if you don't call preparing a 7 course feast serious. Susan looks puzzled. Summer tells Susan that Karl isn't dating casually.
Kyle comes in and puts an ad for a new housemate on the noticeboard. Summer wonders about applying.
KYLE: Sorry, no chicks.
SUMMER: That's a bit sexist, isn't it?
KYLE: Yeah, it is.
Chris looks thoughtful.
No 26
Kyle is taking a call, obviously from a potential housemate. However, it seems that no ferrets are allowed either. There's a knock at the door and Chris says he's in - he'll take the room. Kyle says that Chris won't like it, and he's not the right fit. Chris frowns, disappointed.
Charlie's
Paul is in an empty bar. He opens the door to Tash, who barges in. She asks him why he thinks he's the only person Andrew didn't tell.
Hospital
Aidan is preparing Andrew for his tests.
Charlie's
Paul says Andrew is selfish and self absorbed. Tash says he's scared.
Hospital
Aidan tells Andrew he has to sleep for the test to work.
Charlie's
Tash reminds Paul that he's been on Andrew's back since he took over Charlie's. Paul says that's ridiculous. She says he criticises everything Andrew does. Paul says he treats Andrew like everyone else he does business with.
TASH: Well, Andrew's not just anyone. He's your son.
Hospital
Aidan asks if Andrew wants Paul there.
ANDREW: Why? So he can watch me sleep?
AIDAN: He's your dad.
Charlie's
Tash tells Paul that Andrew feels like he has to earn his love. He's in hospital on his own. Paul says Andrew only thinks about himself. She reminds him that Andrew has epilepsy: he needs Paul. Paul tells her to get out.
Hospital
Andrew has been fitted with the electrodes for his EEG and is asleep. Paul comes in and sits by the bed, remembering some of the times when he went off at him for apparently slacking off.
Harold's
Karl is rather dejectedly telling Summer that a few woman have sent messages, but he doesn't have much in common with them. Susan comes over. She gives him the phone number of Samantha from accounts. Karl asks why. Susan says she is divorced, plays golf and likes nature programmes, so they have lots in common. Karl says his last blind date didn't go well. Susan says she knows him better than Georgia does. Karl thanks her politely. Susan pulls up a chair and says she could help him with the online dates as well. Karl suggests that's weird. Susan agrees, but says she wants him to be happy.
At a nearby table, Chris tells Aidan he can play guitar: he wanted to confess all his secrets. Aidan looks a bit uncomfortable. Then Chris says he wanted to move to Ramsay Street but Kyle knocked him back. Aidan asks him why. Chris says it almost felt as though it was because he was gay. Aidan says he wouldn't want to live with someone like that. Chris says he thought Kyle was better than that and walks out.
Meanwhile, Susan is writing replies for Karl. He is finding it "terrific"(!)
No 26
Chris strides in and asks if Kyle thinks he is going to hit on him. He says Kyle isn't his type, he doesn't just hit on any bloke he meets, and it's discrimination to refuse him a room because of his sexuality. Kyle says it's not because he's gay, it's because he's got a boyfriend. Chris says it sounds like he's got a problem... Kyle says he and Jade have just broken up and he doesn't want to see loved-up couples when he comes home. Chris apologises.
Harold's
Susan is still sorting through Karl's prospective partners, without success (in her view). Karl sighs and says he wished Summer hadn't told her. Susan says it's just as well she was there. Karl points out a "possible". Susan gives him a patronising look over her glasses. Karl asks what's wrong.
SUSAN: She's half your age.
KARL: She says she likes mature men, and SHE messaged me.
He insists that they stop. She says she thought he wanted help. He tells she foisted herself on him. She said in was in her face. He says he was hiding it. She is annoyed by that and marches out. Karl sighs and shakes his head.
Ramsay Street
Chris is waiting in the street and Kyle comes out to his ute. Kyle is in a hurry but Chris asks for a minute. He apologises for going off at Kyle. Then he says that he and Aidan aren't all over each other, and he will probably be at Aidan's more than there anyway, and he's really not that insensitive. Finally he produces some of his mum's moussaka, promising that she would look after them all. He holds out a forkful.
KYLE: You're not spoon-feeding me.
CHRIS: You're lucky I'm not making aeroplane noises.
Kyle tastes the moussaka and agrees that Chris can move in.
Hospital
Paul and Karl are outside Andrew's room. Karl tells Paul he's sorry he couldn't tell him, although he tried to hint. Paul says he's the worst father. Karl says people will understand he has high expectations. Paul thinks he should have seen what was happening. Karl tells him to concentrate on the future and give Andrew the support he needs.
Paul goes into the room and watches Andrew sleeping. When Andrew wakes, he tells Paul he feels good. Paul says he only pressured him so he didn't waste his potential. But he's pushed him too far, and he's sorry. Andrew says this will not make a difference to his life. They smile. Tash comes in. Andrew asks who's looking after Charlie's while he's away. Paul says he's not coming back. Andrew begs him not to do that, pointing out that he owns half the bar. Paul says it's for his own good. Paul goes.
Tash comes over and takes Andrew's hand, but he shakes it off. He tells her that it's her fault: she kept on at him to have the test when he couldn't leave his dad. She tells him it was for his own good. He says his dad used the same words.
ANDREW: And now he thinks I'm some pathetic, weak cripple that can't even run his own bar.
He blames her for the seizure. When she protests, he tells her to shut her mouth. He rolls over and turns his back on her. She's upset and leaves. He wipes tears from his eyes.
