Lassiter's
Sheila tells Kyle that he's got it all - nice place to live, job, friends - now all he needs is a nice girl to settle down with and Jade is not settling down material, and isn't the "family type". Kyle wants her to give Jade a chance.
SHEILA: I'm all for a bit of fun, love, but you know what's number one in the Canning rule book.
KYLE: Family comes first.
SHEILA: Right, and I can't really see Jade sitting around our Christmas table with one of our Santa hats on, can you?
No.32
Chris asks Tash if Summer and Griffin are together now. Tash doesn't know and is irritated by house viewers wandering around.
Aidan comes around with some supplies and suggests they go for lunch at Charlie's. Aidan shouts at the viewers to get out of Tash's bedroom so she can get dressed.
TASH: Your boyfriend's the best.
CHRIS: I know.
Community Centre
Lou is dancing with each of the ladies in turn and trying to find out which of them is rich(!) After several dances he settles on a lady called Vera and invites her for a coffee after class. She's a childless widow and has just got back from a cruise(!)
Charlie's
Chris tells Tash that her house will get sold. He suggests she makes her father a better offer - she could offer to rent it with a few housemates. Tash thinks it's a good idea and assumes Chris will move in(!) Chris agrees and says he'll asks Aidan too.
Hospital
AIDAN: Me?
CHRIS: Yeah, why not?
AIDAN: How much thought have you given this?
CHRIS: I don't know...Tash and I can't afford a place by ourselves...we need a third person and you're the obvious choice.
AIDAN: Chris, why would I move out of my own flat and into a shared house? Unless you're asking me to move in with you?
CHRIS: Wh...no...not like that...not that I don't want to move in one day, but...it's just a bit too soon...
AIDAN: Just relax, OK! I know. You really didn't think this through, did you?!
CHRIS: Nope. I'm an idiot.
AIDAN: No, you're not. I'd be rapt to move in with you. Just...not yet. I think it's great that you're moving out of home. You're going to love it.
CHRIS: Mmm. Not sure about doing my own laundry though.
AIDAN: So, what did your dad say?
CHRIS: ...
AIDAN: Oh, Chris, you are hopeless! Just call him and tell him. It'll be fine.
He kisses Chris on the forehead.
No.26
Sheila is making a spaghetti bolognaise when she hears the door open.
SHEILA: Oh, sounds like Sporty Spice is back! It's a wonder with all that lycra it doesn't cut off her circulation.
Kyle grimaces and goes into the other room to meet Jade. He aks her to stay for dinner, but Jade says she's busy. Kyle pushes the point, saying he wants Jade to get to know Sheila properly.
KYLE: Show her that family is important to you.
JADE: What?
KYLE: And if you can slip in Santa hats into the conversation that'd be awesome.
JADE: What are you talking about?
KYLE: Trust me. It's important.
JADE: Do we have a problem here?
KYLE:(lying) No.
JADE: She hates me, doesn't she?!
KYLE: No!
JADE: She does, you just did the tone thing!
KYLE: What thing?
JADE: When you lie you go up at the end of your sentences?
KYLE:(with a rising tone) I do not!
Jade just looks at him.
KYLE: Look. I love you. And I love my gran and I want you both to get along. Please? For me.
(Later)
Jade is sitting down to spag bol with Kyle and Sheila. They talk about the spag bol recipe and how it's a family tradition. Kyle asks Jade to tell them about their family traditions. Jade makes up that she, Sonya and Callum plant a tree every year at Christmas. Sheila thinks that's a bit hippy - the Cannings get plastered, wear Santa hats and eat till they're sick(!)
JADE:(putting down her fork) You know, I'm sorry, I just made all of that up!
KYLE: Jade!
JADE: No, I really hate cooking and I don't like Santa hats! Sheila, I can tell you don't like me! But I really like your grandson!
SHEILA: I like your style, sporty! But if we're really putting our cards on the table, I don't think you're right for my grandson.
KYLE: Gran, you can't say that!
JADE: No, Kyle it's fine. Do you know what, last year I absolutely would have agreed with you. But Kyle and I have been through way too much together to walk away just because you don't like me. I love him. And I'm staying. And if you stick around long enough you'll see just how well we work together.
SHEILA: I won't hold my breath, love.
Later, in the garden of No.26
Jade is trying to train the dog and Kyle begs his gran to give Jade a go. Sheila goes over and gives Jade some tips in training the dog. They talk about pets and Sheila is surprised to hear that Jade grew up in the country.
While they're talking, Kate comes along and Sheila greets her enthusiastically. In the background, Jade is having some success with the dog.
No.26
Jade and Sheila come in.
SHEILA: Just make sure she knows who's boss and you'll be fine!
KYLE:(putting down Handyman magazine) How d'ya go?
JADE: Yeah, well, I got her to roll over eventually. Apparently I need to be more...bossy.
SHEILA: Only way to earn respect.
JADE: Maybe that should be her name.
KYLE: What, Bossy?
The little dog reacts to the word.
KYLE: Come here, Bossy?
The dog jumps up.
KYLE: No way!
JADE: Bossy it is!
SHEILA: About time she had a name!
Jade decides to take the newly-christened Bossy out the back. When Jade has gone, Kyle tells Sheila to stop judging Jade - it won't change his mind.
KYLE: This is my life. And Jade is who I want. You're just going to have to get used to it.
Harold's Store
Lou is having a coffee with Vera when Toadie and Lucas come in. They look in surprise at Lou on a date and Toadie gets talking to Vera about travel in Europe. Lou tries to get rid of them(!)
VERA: He's such a charmer!
TOADIE: Isn't he?
No.26
Kyle is cutting up a hedgehog slice that Sheila has made. Kyle tells Jade that Sheila will get used to her - and if she doesn't, Jade can always sleep outside with the dog(!)
Sheila comes into the room, having dragged Kate in off the street. She's invited her for afternoon tea. Kyle rolls his eyes.
KYLE:(to Sheila) What are you doing?
SHEILA: Just having afternoon tea.
Outside Harold's Store
Tash and Chris are still discussing renting No.32. Chris has apparently rung his dad who was quite grumpy about it.
Chris's dad arrives and Tash sits at another table. They talk about the effect on Chris's mother of Chris moving out. Chris points out that things are different these days.
CHRIS'S DAD: I'm not happy about this Chris.
CHRIS:(looking down) Right.
CHRIS'S DAD: But, I'm not going to stand in the way of your happiness.
CHRIS: So...it's OK?

He nods and Chris looks very pleased.
CHRIS'S DAD: But there are a few conditions.
CHRIS: Sure.
CHRIS'S DAD: You come home once a week for a family dinner.
CHRIS: Yeah, of course!
CHRIS'S DAD: You call your mum every second day.
CHRIS: I can do that.
CHRIS'S DAD: And I come and visit the house to make sure you're living responsibly
CHRIS: No worries! When do you want to do it?
CHRIS'S DAD: Now?
CHRIS: ...Now?
CHRIS'S DAD: Is that a problem?
CHRIS: Er...no...it's no problem...
In the background, Tash gets up and runs off.
CHRIS'S DAD: We'll give her ten minutes head start. For the clean-up.
Harold's Store
Jade asks Kyle if Sheila likes Kate a lot more than her. Kyle tells her to hang in and Sheila will come around eventually.
Vera invites Lou to be her date at a wedding. But she's not looking for a husband- just some company every now and then. Lou tells her that he doesn't have suitable shoes for a wedding and Vera offers to buy him some.
LOU: No, I couldn't let you do that!
VERA: Don't be silly, it's only money...it's not like I haven't got any.
LOU: Well that's very good of you...but only if you're sure.
VERA: I'll bring you the cash next week.
LOU: Vera, you are a gem!
No.32
Tash has managed to clean the house ahead of Chris and Mr Pappas arriving. He comments that the house is very tidy. Tash tells him not to look under the sofa(!)
Mr Pappas looks around and says No.32 is a nice house, and comments that Tash is very young to be living there by herself.
TASH: Dad left...a while ago. Since then it's been kind of hard. Chris has been great though, really supportive.
CHRIS'S DAD: I'm pleased to hear that. He's growing up to be a fine young man.
CHRIS: So what do you think, Dad? Are you happy for me to move in?
CHRIS'S DAD: Happy, no. But you have my permission.
CHRIS: That is awesome, thank you so much, Dad!
CHRIS'S DAD: As long as you respect this house.
CHRIS: Of course.
Tash offers them a coffee and goes off to make it.
CHRIS: Thank you, Dad, really.
CHRIS'S DAD: I meant what I said before. About being proud of how you're growing up.
CHRIS: Dad...
CHRIS'S DAD: I don't say it much sometimes, but you and me...I'm glad we're in a good place now.
Chris goes off to help Tash with the coffee and Mr Pappas sits down on the couch. Unfortunately, Aidan chooses that moment to stride into the house.
AIDAN: Hi, honey, I'm home!!
He stops short when he sees Mr Pappas and both look shocked.
AIDAN: Hi, uh...Mr Pappas.
CHRIS'S DAD: Hello.
AIDAN: It's Aidan.
CHRIS'S DAD: Yes, I remember.
Awkward.
Chris and Tash rush in.
CHRIS'S DAD: So you live here too, do you?
CHRIS: No, no he doesn't.
AIDAN: No, it was just a joke.
CHRIS'S DAD: Right.
(Later)
Tash is serving up the coffee and takes Aidan off to the kitchen to find some sugar.
CHRIS'S DAD: I didn't realise you were friends with that young man. Er...are you and he...?
CHRIS: No! No, no, nothing like that. No, um, he and Tash are pretty close. They muck around a lot.
CHRIS'S DAD: Right.
CHRIS: Yeah, pretending to be husband and wife, that kind of thing. I only see him because he's here to see Tash.
CHRIS'S DAD: Right, then.
Aidan and Tash come back with some snacks.
CHRIS'S DAD:(to Aidan) So, how did you meet Natasha?
TASH: At the hospital. Chris was there. Aidan was his nurse, remember?
CHRIS'S DAD: Yes, of course.
An awkward silence ensues.
