Susan's flat - night- time
Susan is working hard on a thrilling article, "New Roundabout For Black Spot" when her vision goes all blurred. She blinks a few times, then carries on. The clock reads 4.30am. She finally closes her laptop.
No.28, the following morning
Summer opens her laptop to find written confirmation from Susan about her official warning. Karl comes in from night- shift with another bloke with a guitar, who Karl introduces as Doctor Adrian Pearce - they're going to have a jam session.
Karl can see Summer is upset. She insists on rushing off, but Karl suggests they meet for a coffee at morning break.
(Later)
Karl and Adrian are playing guitar and enjoying themselves. Karl tells Adrian that he was a little behind the beat, but they'll work on it. Karl says they really need a drummer to keep them in time, but there's no sign of one yet.
Charlie's
Andrew tells Paul that after tonight he'll officially have paid off his debt to Paul. Summer comes in on a coffee run and talks a little awkwardly to Andrew. When Summer is at the counter, Paul warns Andrew that he's expecting too much to be friends with Summer - being friends mean you have to be happy for the other person when and if they move on. Andrew looks a bit troubled.
Just then, Paul gets a call from his Erinsborough News spy.
PAUL: She did WHAT?!
Harold's Store
Susan is telling one of her journalists on the phone that all stories have to go through her before printing now.
Paul comes in demands to know why Fiona has been fired.
PAUL: You have made a big mistake in firing her!
SUSAN: Why? Because now you have to find someone else to spy on me?
Susan says she'll fill in for Fiona until a replacement is found. Paul laughs and reminds Susan that they have an 8pm deadline - if the copy doesn't get in, there's no paper, and no paper means no adverts and a lot of unhappy clients. Susan points out that she has now been running the paper for six weeks, so this is not exactly news(!) Paul says he'd better not have any complaints or it'll be Susan's head on the block.
Susan looks very tired.
(Later)
Susan is on the phone trying to find a replacement journalist when Karl comes in. She tells him that she's short- staffed and Karl sympathises, but warns Susan not to overdo things. Susan says she's going to a meditation session at lunchtime.
SUSAN: I know what I need to do, I've been managing the MS for years.
KARL: Sure, sure. But still, it's a long time since you've had a job this demanding.
SUSAN: I know, and I can manage.
KARL: OK, I'm sure you can.
As Susan is leaving, Summer comes in to meet Karl. She doesn't tell Karl about the official warning, saying simply that she's had a rough morning.
Editor's Office
Susan is giving out work to various journalists. Summer gives Susan a summary of the online interest. Susan says she needs to look at Summer's work - she can't approve anything she hasn't read. Summer also wants to talk about the official warning, but Susan is too busy. They agree to meet tomorrow.
(Later)
Susan is working flat- out and looking rather stressed.
(Later)
Ajay comes in and tells her he's off to the official opening of the Community Centre. He invites Susan along as a friend - he feels she's supported him so much. Although Susan's meditation session is at 1pm, she decides to go to the Community Centre opening instead.
Community Centre
various local people are arriving for the Community Centre opening. Paul is also there and snipes at Ajay. Karl is also there and is surprised to see Susan there. Susan lies and says she's already finished her meditation session.
(Later)
Ajay declares the Community Centre open and explains that they'll have dance classes, business classes, cooking classes and much more. Paul continues to snips at Ajay who ignores him and shows the people the music room. Paul asks Ajay how he can justify spending rate- payers money on equipment for "jobless bums" to laze around. Ajay says it's for everyone to learn new skills, and also suburbs with Community Centres usually see a drop in petty crime.
AJAY: I can't stress enough how we want everyone in Erinsborough to feel welcome to use these facilites. I know I can't wait to test them out!
PAUL: Well, go on then! If these facilities really are for everyone.
AJAY: If you insist.
To his surprise, Ajay sits down at the drum kit and gives them a rather good demonstration. What a coincidence! Karl immediately gets on the phone to Adrian(!)
No.32
Summer is feeling miserable and looking for Chris, but he isn't at home.
As she comes down the driveway, she sees Andrew who waves, and then goes into No.22. She looks a bit sad.
No.22
Summer comes to see Andrew who is a bit non- plussed to see her.
SUMMER: I just thought I'd pop over, have a chat.
ANDREW: Er, good, good. There's no reason we can't be friends, eh?
SUMMER: That's what I was hoping.
Summer starts to tell Andrew that she is having a hard time in work, but suddenly notices a box with her stuff in. Andrew says he was going to bring it over to No.28, but since she's there now, she can take it with her(!) Summer picks up the box and heads off, looking stricken.
(Later)
Summer changes her Facebook relationship status to "Single".
Community Centre
Susan tells Karl that she'll definitely be leaving the office by 6pm tonight. Karl says he'll be checking up on her(!) Then he goes off with Ajay.
Paul comes over and snipes at Susan a bit for being out of the office so long. When he's gone, Susan literally runs towards the office.
No.28
Karl, Adrian and Ajay are having a jamming session. They all really enjoy it - including Ajay, who wants to join the band.
KARL: Welcome to The Right Prescription!
Ajay says he really likes the music, but Karl was a little ahead of the beat all the way through - something to work on(!) Adrian looks quietly pleased, Karl less so(!) They start to play again!
Erinsborough News
It's 5.55pm and Susan is about to leave the office. She has a final few words with the journalists and reminds them about the 8pm deadline.
When Susan has gone, Summer notices that the Internet Connection has gone down.
Susan's flat
Susan is lying on the sofa listening to relaxing music when the telephone rings. She gets up to answer it, but as she does so, she feels a little shaky. She struggles to the phone, though. Summer tells Susan that the Internet has gone down and everything hasn't gone to the printers yet. Susan tells her she'll come to the office. Summer says it's unnecessary, but Susan won't listen.
Erinsborough News
Summer is on the phone to IT support who are checking her computer settings (why, I don't know, it's not like they'd have suddenly changed, so it's clearly an outside problem, but I digress) Susan arrives and takes over, despite Summer's protests. As Susan uses the mouse, she realises her right hand is shaking. She uses her left hand instead.
