No.30
Sonya is quietly reflecting in the living room when Callum barges in and disturbs the peace. He notices her mood and asks her if she's OK. Toadie has apparently gone for a walk.
Lassiter's Lake
Toadie is standing by the lake, flashing back to some of the conversations Sonya and he have had about having children. He throws a stone into the lake, sadly.
No.30
Sonya asks Callum what he's doing on his last afternoon of freedom before going back to school. They decide to make home-made pizza.
Men's Shed
Lucas is sitting despondently, throwing coins into a tin can. Toadie comes in looking equally despondent.
TOADIE: Mind if I hang out here for a bit?
LUCAS: As long as you don't want to talk.
TOADIE: Fair enough.
He sits down and starts talking, but Lucas reminds him that he doesn't want to talk. Eventually he relents though.
TOADIE: Sonya wants to stop trying to have a baby. I mean, she was really for it, we both were...and then today, she suddenly changed her mind.
LUCAS: Oh.
TOADIE: What does 'Oh' mean?
LUCAS: She didn't tell you then.
TOADIE: Tell me what?
LUCAS: Yesterday, a girl turned up. I'm trying to remember her name, and then she tells me I'm going to have a kid.
TOADIE: What?! You're pregnant? Not you, obviously, but...who is she exactly?
LUCAS: I don't know. But she's pregnant, and apparently, it's mine.
Toadie is stunned.
TOADIE: Well, did you?
LUCAS: Once.
TOADIE: That's all it takes. If you're lucky.
LUCAS: Or not. Anyway, she told Sonya and they had a good old chat about it. then Sonya gave me a serve. That might have something to do with it.
TOADIE: I reckon you're right. I've got to go!
Lucas just keeps throwing coins into the can.
Charlie's

No.30
Toadie comes in. Sonya is making pizza and he gently wipes flour off her face.
SONYA: Hey, I'm sorry about before, I didn't mean to be so harsh about it.
TOADIE: That's OK. I understand. I saw Lucas, and he told me.
SONYA: Mmm. They didn't even want to have a baby.
She tries not to cry and Toadie hugs her.
TOADIE: I know, babe. I know it is really frustrating. That's no reason for us to stop trying though, is it? Eh? Babe? I know it's hard. But I'm not ready to give up, and I don't think you are, either.
SONYA: I'm just so tired. When you're telling yourself that it'll happen when you know, deep down, it might not, it's exhausting.
TOADIE: OK, so let's just take a break from the whole baby thing for a little while, you know, give it a little rest, forget about it.
SONYA: I can't stop thinking about it, any more than you can! I mean, it's taken over everything in our life. And...when was the last time that you really, really enjoyed being with me?
TOADIE: Are you kidding me? Why do you think I want to keep trying, eh?
SONYA: No, I mean without the niggling fear of disappointment?
Toadie's face says it all.
SONYA: Yeah. It shouldn't be like that. We've spent so much time trying to have a baby that we've forgotten just how lucky we are. You know, we both have jobs that we love, we have each other, we have this smart, funny, sensitive kid...
TOADIE: Yeah, I know, I know, and I really appreciate all that too...
SONYA: It's just made me realise how lucky we are! I have everything I need, and I do not need a baby to make me happy.
No.28
Toadie is having a beer with Karl and talking about Sonya and the baby situation.
TOADIE: I blame Lucas. Every time a Fitzgerald gets a woman pregnant, I suffer(!)
Toadie doesn't think that Sonya will change her mind. Karl advises him to keep talking to Sonya. Maybe they could consider IVF.
KARL: Toad...have you considered a sperm donor? It's just one of the possibilities.
TOADIE: No. No, no, no, that's not something that Sonya and I have even considered, you know, when we talked about this baby, I've always thought it would be mine...so...
KARL: Well, it would be. For what it's worth, I think you both would make excellent candidates. I mean, given that the fertility issue is on your side, you'd have a good chance of success.
No.32
Tash comes in, moaning about being totally exhausted and ruining her shoes. But Chris isn't there. She takes out her phone and calls him, but there's no reply. She leaves him several messages.
Harold's Store
Toadie and Callum are having a milkshake. Callum asks him if there's a problem at home.
CALLUM: Mum and I made pizzas, now you're taking me out for drinks!
TOADIE: No, it's all good, buddy.
CALLUM: Is mum pregnant?
TOADIE:(controlling his emotions) No.
CALLUM: Look, I know you probably want to keep it quiet, at least for the first few weeks...
TOADIE: Your mum's not pregnant.
CALLUM: Oh. Sorry.
Lucas comes in and almost falls over a random toddler. The toddler's father retrieves him, then has a conversation with them about kids. What a coincidence.
When the bloke has gone, Callum heads off to hang out with Sophie, while Toadie buys Sonya some flowers.
No.30
Sonya wakes up from a nap to find Toadie putting flowers in a vase.
TOADIE: Can we sit down for a minute.
SONYA: No...talking about this again isn't going to change anything.
TOADIE: So far you've done all the talking, and I've done the listening. So, can you hear me out, please?
They sit down on the sofa.
TOADIE: I love you and Callum to bits, you know that. And I appreciate everything that we have.
SONYA: Jarrod, I know what's coming next...
TOADIE: No, I don't think you do.
SONYA: You're going to do your lawyer thing, and make a case. And convince me to keep trying...
TOADIE: Please...let me finish. I know that what we've been doing hasn't worked. There are other options, though. What about IVF? I know it's not something we've actually discussed, but we could do it, and financially we're in a good position.
SONYA: It's not about the money...it's the emotional toll. And physical, what it does to your body, all those hormones, I'm not...
TOADIE: Well, you wouldn't necessarily have to do that. We could get a sperm donor.
Sonya gives him a long look.
SONYA: You would want to do that?
TOADIE: I never thought I would. But, if that's what it takes...and, I mean, the fact that I'm not Callum's biological dad doesn't mean I love him any less.
SONYA: I know, I know that. And so does he.
TOADIE: Adopting Callum is the best thing I've ever done. My only regret is that I didn't get to do it sooner.
SONYA: IVF is no guarantee.
TOADIE: It's as close to a guarantee as I can get.
No.32
Chris and Aidan come in from playing basketball. Aidan goes off for a shower while Tash tells Chris about her day at work. She's exhausted, but at least she has money in her pocket, and noone to tell her how to spend it. Tash tells Chris that they should become formal housemates. He isn't sure he could pay all the bills, or what his parents would think.
Chris's Dad rings up at that moment and he says he's hanging out with Tash. Aidan has come back to look for towels and looks confused that Chris didn't mention him. Chris's dad invites him and Tash over to Sunday lunch. Chris says that Tash is working on Sunday. An awkward pause comes between Chris and Aidan.
No.32 (evening)
Aidan tackles Chris about not telling his dad about their relationship. Chris awkwardly says that his dad isn't good on the phone. He fixes the TV, and Tash insists that Aidan stays for dinner. But they'll have to go grocery shopping first. Chris and Aidan head off to the shop.
No.30
Callum has gone off to his room to play on the computer.
TOADIE:(gently) Babe, did you think about what I said?
SONYA: Jarrod, I know how much you want this, because I've wanted it too.
TOADIE: But...?
SONYA: I know that you think you're OK with the idea of a sperm donor, but the reality might be different.
TOADIE: I can deal with this.
SONYA: Yeah, I know, I know you can. But deep down, I know it's not what you really want. And, it's not what I want, either. If it can't be yours, then it's just not meant to be.
TOADIE: So that's it?
SONYA: Yeah.
Toadie looks gutted.
SONYA: I'm sorry.
TOADIE: Me too.
No.32
Chris, Aidan and Tash are having a glass of wine. Tash opens a letter saying that there will be an inspection of the No.32 property...prior to sale!
Aidan: On whose authority?
Tash looks more closely at the letter.
TASH: Dad's!
(Later)
Tash has rung Michael and it's true! Apparently he's been trying to call Tash and told her she can just come and live with him(!) Tash starts to panic and says she can't afford rent - she can hardly afford food, and her job isn't secure.
TASH: How am I supposed to go to Uni, work, and pay rent, all on my own?!
