Michael warns Emilia to stay away from Tash, but she warns him he won't be able to hide the truth forever.
Lucas and Emilia continue to flirt with each other.
Rhys figures out that Jade is using Mal as a distraction from Kyle.
Jade arrives home in the early hours, and in the darkness knocks a picture of her and Kyle off the counter. Mal texts to thank her for a top night.
Michael wishes his daughter a happy 18th birthday. Tash isn't sure where to begin with her presents, so Michael suggests she starts with the smallest - a new iPhone 4. She's delighted, and curious to know if all the presents (there is a rather large pile) are from her father.
MICHAEL: Well it's not just any birthday, and you deserve it.
Michael informs his daughter that he has an appointment with the therapist later that morning, but promises he'll take her out to celebrate afterwards. He heads off to fetch the breakfast he's already prepared from the kitchen, leaving Tash to wonder why she hasn't received anything from her aunt.
Tash decides to send her aunt a text, just as Chris arrives with a present for her - a towel with her name on for schoolies.
TASH: Monogrammed! You know this is probably the gayest thing you've done since you bought those leather pants.
CHRIS: Hey, I did not buy them; I only tried them on, because you wanted a photo!
Tash gets a birthday text, but not the one she was after. Chris persuades her to head to out for a second breakfast.
Chris is tucking into his breakfast, but admits he will be disappointed with no more Grease Monkey's when the development goes ahead. Over the road, Lucas pulls up looking rather smart, and wanders over to say hello. The youngsters enquire what he's up to, but to avoid the subject, Lucas wishes Tash a happy 18th.
CHRIS: No changing the subject.
TASH: Hey, hey, hey. I AM the subject.
They soon figure out Lucas has a date, but he refuses to tell them any more. Heading back over to the garage he receives a text from Emilia, explaining she won't be able to make it as she has to work.
Lucas arrives to find Michael at the bar. Michael is impressed by Lucas' attire, and Lucas revealed he had a date lined up; till she had to work. Michael is pleased for his friend that there is someone on the scene, but sympathises that his date has fallen through. Mal shows up and joins the blokes.
LUCAS: Hey, good to see someone's in a good mood.
MAL: Why, what's up?
MICHAEL: I'm alright. Can't speak for his one though; he's been stood up.
LUCAS: Hang on a sec, technically I wasn't stood up.
MAL: So, she bailed?
MAL: And that's it?... Mate, where is your fighting spirit?
LUCAS: It went out the door when she cancelled on me.
Mal comments that maybe she was just playing hard to get. Michael agrees that Lucas shouldn't call it quits; it's not like she's gone to Portugal, besides, if work got in the way of a date, no one would get anywhere in life.
MICHAEL: So this 'date'; she's obviously not worth it then?
MAL: Ah, clearly not.
LUCAS: I did not say that.
MICHAEL: So what are you doing moping around here?
Michael points out if that if she's working, she's going to need a break at some point. So, if she can't go on a date, the date could go to her.
Michael and Mal head off, leaving Lucas wondering.
Lassiter's Park - Rotunda
Michael meets with his therapist, and they take a seat in the rotunda to avoid the rain.
Lucas is on the phone to Emilia, and asks her to come outside for a moment.
Lassiter's Park - Rotunda
Michael feels that he may finally be getting somewhere in his relationship with his daughter, now that she is 18.
Emilia informs Lucas she won't be able to go anywhere, but she doesn't have to worry, he's brought the picnic to her - in the back of his van. She is touched.
Lassiter's Park - Rotunda
Amy asks Michael how he plans to celebrate his daughter's birthday. Michael explains they'll go for lunch, the two of them, as they've always done.
MICHAEL: It's been just the two of us for so long, it's the one constant in both our lives...
As Michael talks, we see Lucas and Emilia enjoying the picnic lunch he's bought, sharing wine and laughing on their first date.
MICHAEL: (cont)...it's the only way I know how to protect my daughter. It's always been just the two of us, and I don't ever want that to change.
Emilia is impressed by Lucas' efforts to woo her; first the waxing, and now a picnic.
LUCAS: I had to make a bit of an effort, or you wouldn't come back for seconds.
She likes the idea of seconds, but he admits he had a hand from Mike. Emilia is surprised to hear that Lucas is friends with Michael, and that he knows Tash, but she doesn't give anything away. When he asks about her friends and family, she admits she caused a bit of trouble as youngster. He asks if she has time for cake, and is pleased to hear she does.
Tash is enjoying her first glass of bubbly in Charlie's with Chris, when Rhys wanders past. He congratulates her and informs her that now she's 18, she'd be able to get the info she wanted on her mother. Tash thanks him, but decides to head off for some retail therapy, dragging Chris along with her.
Dane beats Jade to the end of their run, and asks for Jade's help with a care package to send to Kyle's mother. Jade isn't keen, and besides she's not a girly girl, but Dane thinks she'd still pick better items than he would.
DANE: C'mon, you're his mate and girly girl or not, you're way better at this than me. It'd mean a lot to Kyle.
Dane and Jade arrive en- route to the post office with the package and bump into Rhys. Dane jokes that they've ended up with more in the package for Kyle than for his mum, because of Jade's input.
Over at the bar, Rhys winds Jade up about the care package for Kyle. Jade is adamant that she and Kyle are just friends, leading Rhys to decide it must've been a guy who hurt Jade. Silently fuming, Jade heads off to a sit at a different table.
Finishing their meal, Dane heads off with the care package, leaving Jade to talk to Rhys. Jade warns him that figuring her out is not going to work.
RHYS: You don't have to be scared Jade, I'm not going to hurt you.
JADE: Don't you dare pull that patronising act on me. You know nothing about me, or my past, and that's the way it's going to stay. I'm not with Kyle, for the same reason I'm not with any guy. I don't need help. I don't need protecting, and I definitely don't need psycho- analysing.
JADE: No, I like to keep things simple. It works for me. Nothing more, nothing less, so if you find that chapter in your little book here, you let me know; otherwise just back the hell off.
Jade returns home, and goes to get a glass from the cupboard, but it slips from her hand to the floor by mistake. Kyle phones her mobile. He's keen for gossip, but she downplays the situation, joking she doesn't 'do' gossip. Feeling frustrated, she claims she has a client waiting and has to go.
She fetches the broom to clean the glass, before sending a message to Mal:
'Repeat tonight? J.'
Lucas tells Emilia about Dan, but since his son was born he doesn't see so much of him. He realises it's easy to make excuses not to visit family; especially when it's complicated.
EMILIA: What family isn't?
Tash has found an app on her phone, that'll show her dad the tides for his surfing. Tash asks Chris to take a photo of her and her father.
Emilia admits that her parents are in Serbia so she doesn't see so much of them. She reveals that she does have family in Australia that she'd like to get to know better, but they lost contact years ago, and she's only just found them again.
LUCAS: If there's part of you that wants to (find them), you should do it.
EMILIA: Oh, I want to. I just don't know if they'll want to see me.
Lucas admits he left it to late with his father, and wishes he hadn't.
Chris and Michael are teasing Tash about putting a video Michael is busy recording up on Facebook. They are interrupted by the front door and Michael is shocked to see Emilia standing the other side of the doorway.
