Garage
Lucas lets rip at Billy for phoning him at home and tells him not to do so again. Billy explains it was better to say what he has to say in private - Garland wants him to race again and he must lose. Lucas makes it clear that he isn't going to lose, even when Billy mentions that it's rare for Garland to give someone a second chance, and considers the garage being smashed up as them calling things even.
BILLY: You won't be even until Garland wins his money back... with interest!
He then gives Lucas his advice - do what he wants "for both our sakes."
BILLY: One more race, that's it. End of problem, happy life. Let me know tomorrow what you are going to do, Garland's not going to wait any longer.
Number 24
Lucas comes home and feigns that he's no longer hungry to Kate and just as he is about to head into his room, Mark catches him to quiz him about Billy. He's correctly guessed who Billy is and tries to warn him off, which Lucas, to his face, appreciates as he finally retreats to his room.
Charlie's
Zeke summons Declan to help him with his crush problem although when he says who it is (Declan thought it was someone older), Declan bursts out laughing.
Number 24
Looks like Sophie's head is still over the place regarding Zeke because she tries to wash a jar of Vegemite by mistake! She manages to get away with her absentmindedness when she lies and says it's an assignment she has on her mind and Kate leaves her to it while she heads out. However instead of doing the assignment, she instead listens to a Lost Boy PirateNet podcast.
Charlie's
Declan tries to tell Zeke that Sophie's crush won't last long - she'll be onto someone else next week! Zeke is relived that he won't need to hurt Sophie.
Garage (next day)
Kate interrupts Lucas as he fits an alarm to the garage. A mystery biker than approaches the garage and just as it looks like Lucas is about to have an accident in his pants, the rider is revealed as Mark! Kate is surprised to hear about Mark getting a bike and after she leaves, Lucas turns down going for a ride with Mark and is pleased to hear that Lucas is keeping is distance from Billy too when he brought it up.
After Mark leaves, Lucas calls Billy to pass a message onto Garland - thanks but no thanks, he isn't interested, he's done with it all.
Harold's Store
When Jade catches up with Zeke, she isn't impressed with how he has dealt with is Sophie problem (doing nothing as she'll grow out of it). She points out that girls never ever forget their first crush and if he continues to do nothing then it will continue to keep growing and he really will break Sophie's heart, which he doesn't want to do. "Then come up with something better," is her parting comment before she leaves the store.
Toadie now adds his tuppenceworth in - he's got to stop being him and suggests dressing like an idiot and listening to bad music! "She will lose interest like that," Toadie adds whilst snapping his fingers.
"Amateurs," is Paul's thoughts on Toadie's plan after overhearing it since the store is fairly quiet. Being cold and direct is Paul's suggestion, comparing it to removing a band aid - you've just got to rip it off!
TOADIE: You're taking advice from this man?
PAUL: Works for me!
TOADIE: And do your ex- wives still speaking to you?
Zeke dismisses Paul's suggestion but thanks Toadie for his before leaving the store.
Number 24
Kate is telling Sophie about Mark's bike as they walk up to the front door but they get a shock when Kate unlocks the door - the place has been trashed. Just as they are about to retreat, Lucas arrives home and quickly escorts the girls elsewhere when he finds that even the bedrooms have been trashed too after he goes to see if there is anyone still lurking on the premises.
Commercial break later and Mark thanks his silent uniformed colleagues for their help and asks to put a rush on things. Paul enters the house, after seeing the police car outside and offers to put the girls up but Lucas is quick to say that won't be necessary, the police say it's unlikely whoever did it will be back. Satisfied with that answer, and Lucas' promise to look after them, Paul leaves the house.
Mark tries to reassure the girls that their arrival home probably interrupted them hence why nothing was stolen but adds for Lucas' benefit, "unless of course you can think of someone that might wanna, I don't know, give you a fright." Neither girl can think of anyone, and Mark agrees to keep an eye on things while Lucas takes the ladies back to school/work.
Ramsay Street
"You're scum Billy d'you know that, my friends could have been hurt. You call yourself a mate," Lucas barks down the phone as he heads towards his Ute seconds before the others.
Just as Mark is escorting the girls to the Ute, the village idiot, sorry Zeke makes an appearance. It looks like he's taken Toadie's (daft) advice and has decided to dress up like he's some American teenager complete with an LA Lakers basketball shirt, an ill- fitting baseball cap whist attempting to talk in some awful American language and to add to his guise, he had a ghettoblaster playing some awful loud music!
Thankfully he quickly twigs onto the situation after Lucas says something and instead offers his help. However before Sophie gets into the Ute, she complements Zeke on his choice of headwear!
Harold's Store
"Mission accomplished," Declan tells Zeke when he explains why he is dressed like an idiot after he enters the store looking to have a word with Toadie! Toadie cites he is blameless because Zeke didn't follow out his instructions and Zeke pleads for more advice. "Oh for god's sakes," the eavesdropping Paul says aloud before reminding him of what he said earlier - band aid.
PAUL: It's fast, emphatic and nothing else will work.
DECLAN: The only thing worse than listening to Toadie's advice will be...
PAUL: Yes and yet you're still talking about this.
Toadie comes up with another plan - he's to pretend he is going out with someone else so Sophie thinks he is unavailable. "Like a fake girlfriend?" Zeke asks when the penny slowly drops. Declan offers his good luck and just as Toadie is remarking that he needs to find someone, Jade walks into the store and its suggested he asks her.
Ramsay Street
As he arrives home in the street, Lucas gets a text from Billy telling him to change his mind. He ignores this but runs into Mark who is more than onto him as he tries to walk up the #24 driveway.
MARK: Mate, don't insult my intelligence. It's my job to know when people are lying to me and right now, you're one of those people.
LUCAS: ...
MARK: You're up to something with Billy Foreman and it's got something to do with this break in.
LUCAS: Oh come on.
MARK: Don't lie to me!
After a few seconds Lucas comes up with a plan to put Mark off the scent - he says that he owes one of Billy's mates some money from an old gambling debt but is quick to say that he no longer has a problem and that he doesn't want the girls to know. "Its a bit late now mate," Mark points out and asks if they are going to keep coming after him? Lucas replies that he's taken a loan out and is going to pay them tonight and is told he'd better otherwise Billy and himself will be paying a formal visit to the police station!
MARK: Lucas, this is Kate and Sophie's home. Nothing can happen to them right!
LUCAS: It won't.
MARK: If you need help?
LUCAS: I will fix it.
MARK: Well make sure you do!
Harold's Store
Lucas gets a new message from Billy saying 'mate this will never end' but puts it to the back of his mind when the newly arrived Paul enquires how the girls are (they're okay). He offers his help to install any security device that will keep them safe (without knowing he's behind the finances for it) but Lucas rejects the offer and reassures Paul that they will be safe.
Charlie's
Declan offers Kate and Sophie his sympathies over the break- in and they've just to shout if they need help.
Sophie is still giving Zeke the 'love- sick' look but relief may be on hand as Jade responds to Zeke's text asking to meet. She joins Zeke and he immediately sits close to her before putting his left arm round her shoulder and holds his right hand tenderly over her clasped hands, acting as if they were a couple.
JADE: What are you doing?
ZEKE: (playing the innocent) Mmm?
JADE: (quietly but sternly) Give me back my hand or I'll cut yours off with my teeth!
(Zeke removes his hand from her hands)
JADE: And your arm.
(Arm removed)
JADE: Move your chair away from me.
She's correctly twigged he is (or was!) doing the fake girlfriend routine and refuses to help him, instead telling him to tell her the truth. "I don't want to hurt her," he implores.
JADE: If you lie to her, you'll just have to hurt her more. Okay? Tell her the truth and do it gently... and don't stuff it up!
(Later)
As Mark is setting up the drinks bill, Kate invites Mark over for dinner to help Sophie feel reassured. Just as Kate asks Sophie to come with her to the store (to get some shopping), Zeke decides its time to have the chat with her and sits down at her table.
Zeke comes clean and tells her whilst he does like her, he doesn't like her like a girlfriend.
He really should have just stopped there but he explains why - that it's because she is a kid and he isn't and then tells her about all the advice he's been given today!
ZEKE: I'm going to be straight with you. This can't ever happen.
Oh he really should have kept quiet because he then goes onto say that he doesn't want things to become even weirder than they are now! Sophie has done really well not react but after that last bit, she runs out of the bar really struggling not to cry in front of him.
Warehouse somewhere
"About time Fitzgerald," Garland calls out when Lucas arrives at today's secret racing venue. Billy wheels himself over to where Lucas has stopped to remind him of what he has to do. "You're doing the right thing," Billy tells him after Garland has popped over to tell Lucas who he is racing against today. Lucas isn't in the mood and replies back that he didn't ask his opinion!
LUCAS: This is the last time mate, the very last time.
Billy nods his acceptance of Lucas' demand and wheels himself back over to where everyone is congregated.
Commercial break later and the race is over with, Lucas duly obeying instructions this time. Billy wheels himself over to commiserate the loser and reminds Lucas that he did try to warn him about Garland. Lucas isn't happy at throwing the race and Billy asks if he'd like more visits from Garland and his mates!
BILLY: You got off lightly.
Lucas asks what would happen if the punters knew what he'd done and Billy replies that there would be trouble. "I've never chucked a race before in my life," Lucas bemoans but he isn't winning any sympathy and is told to have a cry and get over it!
Number 24
Mark is trying to secure the windows but complains about the drill he is using so Kate heads off to see if she can find a better one just as Lucas arrives home.
"Is it sorted?" Mark asks him and he confirms that it is and stops Mark from again reminding him what sort of friends Billy knows.
After Mark goes to check something with Kate, Lucas ponders for a bit and after noticing a smashed trophy that once was his, gets out his mobile to call Billy and enquires when the next race is.
LUCAS: This isn't about the money mate; I'm not going out like this. I'm racing again Billy and this time I'm going to win.
