Previously on Neighbours
- Donna and Ringo making wedding plans.
- Toadie telling Libby his role in the plan.
- Susan telling Toadie he isn't part of their family anymore.
- Toadie explaining he was just helping Steph to Lucas.
- Steph collapsing and Libby walking out on her.
- Steph telling Lyn (and Ringo) that Libby didn't help her.
Hospital
Karl checks Steph over and wants to do more tests in case its pre- eclampsia given Steph's blood pressure has gone through the roof since he saw her earlier. He isn't amused at Lyn taking notes too (while he writes Steph's up) before he leaves to get the tests arranged - she is still furious at Libby abandoning Steph. "Karl's not Libby," Toadie points out and Steph is more than happy at the care Karl is showing to her.
LYN: You know the Kennedys; they stick together like self- righteous glue.
STEPH: Mum, please can we just not do this.
Number 28
Ringo finishes his call to Karl and relays to Donna and Susan that Steph is going to be okay - she's got gestational hypertension but should get home tomorrow. Libby meanwhile doesn't acknowledge what Ringo is saying as she makes herself some sandwiches. Susan picks her up on it, and isn't amused at the stance her daughter is taking especially when she points out that the baby hasn't done anything wrong - Libby thinks that she did more than enough getting Ringo involved.
LIBBY: So what now that she's sick everyone feels sorry for her? Is that how it works?
SUSAN: ...
LIBBY: Ben is in there hurt and confused because I had to tell him that Dan is the father of Steph's baby, so excuse me if I don't give a damn about Stephanie Scully.
Hospital
Karl finishes doing a scan of bubs and it's all good. He tells Steph how she has to treat her gestational hypertension - to avoid stress, she must remain calm and have a nice calm environment.
LYN: Tell that to your daughter!
Ignoring Lyn, Steph thanks Karl adding that she'll follow his instructions. Toadie asks when Doug is back and Karl replies he doesn't know - he took [immediate] leave when he broke up with Libby. Steph is shocked to hear that news and when Karl leaves the room, Lyn tells Steph it isn't her fault.
STEPH: Of course it's my fault, it's all my fault. Libby and Doug and Summer and Sonya and Callum and Lucas.
Toadie interrupts to tell her not to berate herself but she does, over how she treated Lucas. "Stop," Toadie tells her and puts the kyboshes on her making a start to apologise. Lyn backs him up too because she and bubs is all that is important now.
Number 22
Ringo isn't amused either at Libby walking out on Steph as he watches on whilst Donna dismantles the pattern for her dress from a mannequin. He wonders if she's having second thoughts but she quickly reassures him that she isn't before explaining that she wants their wedding to be real. She adds that what they've organised so far isn't them, "its fake" and neither of them want a fake wedding although Ringo isn't enthusiastic about what this all means... yes they are back to looking through magazines for wedding ideas! "Just remember it has to be real," she says after dumping a pile of magazines on the table although her payback is watching 3 action movies with him!
Help is on hand though when Kate and Declan arrive and are roped in. Kate suggests a trip to the wedding expo for inspiration but Ringo is dead against going to one of them however Kate has another suggestion - a wedding workshop that she also spotted in one of the magazines.
Hospital/Blokes Club HQ
Lyn dishes out the instructions before she leaves Steph for the night - no phonecalls and no stressing about other people! Steph breaks that rule within 5 seconds of Lyn closing the door, when she gets her mobile out from her bag and calls Lucas.
Lucas is at the Blokes Club HQ and can see its Steph calling but lets it go to voicemail.
STEPH: Hey it's me. Umm, oh I just want to say I'm sorry. I'm just so sorry, more than you'll ever know, you deserved so much more. (struggling for the right works) So much. I just ah, I just want to see you and explain and...
She again struggles for words and this time hangs up.
At the HQ, Lucas gets a text letting him know he has a message but makes no move to see it, as we cut back one final time to see Steph lying in her hospital bed before we head into the first commercial break.
And today's trip down memory lane is to 1989 and a picture of Katie Landers and Bouncer.
Wedding workshop (next day)
Donna, Ringo, Kate and Declan turn up for their appointment with Marlon the wedding planner (who moans that they are late). He gives instructions for them not to touch anything (the shop is full of junk!) as they head to his office area to begin making decisions although Donna struggles on the first one - what type of flowers!
And surprise, surprise someone else from Ramsay Street turns up at his shop - Susan! No, she and Karl aren't going for wedding #4, she's doing an article on a wedding planner for the paper after meeting him at the expo.
Susan wonders why they are there, so Donna explains about Steph and Toadie's fake wedding although Susan is quick to point out that was them, not her and Ringo. She tells Donna that her wedding should be fun, that's what makes it perfect.
Hospital
Toadie ticks Steph off for using her phone when he comes into see her but she explains that she was just checking for messages. She sets him the task of returning the wedding gifts they got and that he's to call Sonya. Lyn arrives and after the pleasantries are over and hearing of Steph's request, agrees to take care of it. Toadie then spots that Steph has a visitor - Lucas.
(Later)
Their chat begins with the polite bits first - Steph and bubs are okay and as Steph is about to begin her real chat to him, Lucas interrupts her. He explains he isn't here to talk about them, rather that he talked to Dan and he wants to be involved with the baby, requesting she calls him when she gets home. She wonders why he delivered that message personally and it then dawns on him, so he announces he's off, but before he does, Steph asks that he tells her whatever he wants to say.
STEPH: Just get it out in the open.
LUCAS: Right because having things out in the open is such a big thing for you? (pause) You should have told me about Dan. We could have worked it out you know, it might have been rocky, but we could have tried. I would have tried.
Steph is literally gobsmacked at hearing him say that and eventually replies back that she didn't think he'd understand. "We'll never know will we?" he laments but doesn't want to go back there and before he leaves, reminds her to call Dan.
Number 22
Lucas runs into the returning teens and he confirms he isn't moving back in, just here to do his laundry... and get some food (he was sprung taking a handful of nuts) so Donna gives him the rest of the nuts and some more food and instructions to come back soon before he leaves them to it.
Donna literally takes Ringo for his word when he jokingly suggests they could use the Blokes Club shed for the wedding! Declan bums it up too (but not Karl playing guitar) although Kate is aghast at the suggestion.
DONNA: It doesn't matter what it is, its like Susan said, we can have it anywhere.
"Are you serious," Kate asks her friend when Donna is getting into wedding planning mode, and her reply is that its what Ringo wants and she can make it work!
Ramsay Street
Lyn is returning the wedding pressies and first stop is #28 to returning a blender, although she leaves it on the doorstep rather than handing it in personally.
Toadie pulls up in his car after collecting Steph and Lyn tells her about returning the wedding pressie to #28. She then asks how things went with Lucas and Steph replies fine before they noticing that someone has exited #28 - it's Libby who is putting the returned pressie into the wheelie bin before putting the bin out to the street ready to be emptied.
Number 26
Lyn is mightily annoyed at what Libby has done and tries to restrain Steph from going over to #28 and talking to Libby - what is going on between them is really getting to her and admits she can't take much more. In the end, it's Toadie who gets her to sit down when he shouts at her and tells her that she needs to let them take care of her.
Number 28
Susan is struggling with her report about the wedding expo although Karl thinks it's because she is working for Paul that is the problem and suggests she asks him for wedding stories given the number of weddings he's had when there is a knock at the door. She tells him to answer it and its Toadie. He begins by acknowledging that he knows he isn't welcome but wants to speak to Libby and isn't leaving until that happens.
Libby silently gives her permission and Toadie moves into the centre of the house. He again begins by acknowledging that she's got ever right to be angry then asks that she goes easier on Steph.
LIBBY: (nonchalantly) Because she's pregnant? It's not a get out of jail free card.
Toadie brings up the fact she left Steph lying after she collapsed and asks if she wants to be responsible for something happening to the baby.
LIBBY: (defiant) I will not be responsible for anything. Okay she deserves whatever comes her way.
TOADIE: (stunned) Whoa! She deserves to lose her baby?
(Karl and Susan try to get them to stop)
LIBBY: You know what? Do your worst Toadie, oh that's right, you already have.
TOADIE: She was there for you when you lost Grace and when Susan lost Sean, so was I. Think whatever you want about me but I will not let you harm that baby. Stop punishing Steph, you got it?!
LIBBY: (angrily) Tell her I haven't even started yet.
Toadie just shakes his head at her as he leaves the house and even Susan and Karl look embarrassed and stunned at what their daughter has just said.
(Later)
Susan delivers a cuppa as Libby does some marking and attempts to talk to her, saying that she mustn't let it take over her life.
LIBBY: What life? The one where I used to have a husband who loved me and friends I could trust.
Karl points out that her marriage to Dan was over before Steph slept with Dan but that isn't washing with Libby, instead she accuses her father of defending Steph. He asks that she backs off, to give herself some perspective, and Susan joins in too, telling Libby that this anger isn't like her. "Well maybe you're wrong, maybe this is me now" she informs them.
Susan tries another tact - doing as Toadie asked but that does down like a lead balloon. Trying to diffuse the situation, Karl suggests they all take Audrey for a walk but Libby remains rooted while her parents walk out the door.
Libby then opens up Susan's laptop and on seeing the headline, 'glam wedding expo' changes it to 'sham wedding exposed' and begins to write:
The Erinsborough community was rocked recently by a wedding. But this was no ordinary wedding. It was a sham from beginning to end. Let's pull no punches Stephanie Scully is a liar. Stephanie Scully's betrayal began not just on her wedding day. No, this lie was neatly [calculated?], it began when she slept with her best friends husband.
