Recap
Libby telling Declan after Bridget's death that things will get better.
Donna telling Declan off for calling Kate a skank.
Libby begging Dan to give Ben one last Christmas.
Dan leaving.
Number 22
Rebecca's excited as she sifts through the mail because she's spotted the deb photos - yay! Declan doesn't open it, and grumpily tells Rebecca he knows what they are. She goes to the kitchen and Declan pulls out the photos to reveal a picture of him and Kate looking like a happy couple.
The gym
Donna is excited to see Kate's deb photo of her and Declan. (Although why Kate bought the photos to the gym is beyond me!) Donna thinks it's a lovely photo, even though Declan is a horrible sexist pig. Kate sticks up for him and Donna wonders if they've made up, Kate reassures Donna that they're fine.
DONNA: What's with the face then?
KATE: It's just...my hair, it looks awful.
Donna thinks Kate's hair was amazing.
Number 22
Rebecca looks at the photo of Declan and Kate over his shoulder, whilst holding India. Rebecca thinks he should have the photo framed, as it's lovely. Declan says he doesn't want it framed. Rebecca sits next to him and wonders if this is about his VCE results. When Declan says nothing, she continues to talk about how he'll find another course to do.
REBECCA: Why don't you let me get this framed for you?
Declan says nothing.
REBECCA: Are you OK?
Declan says he's fine and takes India off Rebecca so that she can get ready for work. Rebecca tells India ("my possum") to look after her daddy.
The Gym
Donna thinks Kate looks grumpy. In walks Sophie to get breakfast with Kate. She asks "what's that?" as Kate stuffs the photo into her bag. I'm sure if Sophie knew what it was, she would also be wondering why Kate took it to the gym with her. They leave to get breakfast.
Harold's Store
Lyn unveils a sign that says "Free Mince Pies".
REBECCA: Oh, I see your spelling has improved!
LYN: Oh, and good morning to you too Rebecca.
Rebecca thinks it's a shame that Lyn can't come up with her own ideas, and says that she'll need more than free mince pies to win the competition. Lyn says that the mince pies are just about celebrating the festive season - she hasn't begun on the competition yet.
REBECCA: Yeah well, you're not going to win, you know.
LYN: Well we'll see. Jesus invented mince pies, Rebecca, not you.
Libby walks in and Lyn wishes her a merry Christmas.
REBECCA: Oh, Libby, I'd love to talk, but I have to *CRUSH* Lyn like an ant.
Rebecca looks like she means it, which is the funniest thing! Rebecca notices that Libby is smiling sadly and she asks if she is OK.
Lassiter's Complex
Libby and Rebecca are sitting on a bench, and Libby looks as though she's been crying. She apologises to Rebecca, who doesn't need to hear all of this. Rebecca can't believe Dan would just leave like that.
REBECCA: Ben's going to be devastated. [Libby looks at her] You haven't told him?
LIBBY: Well, he knows about us. [She sighs] But he still thinks Dan is coming to Christmas Eve lunch.
Libby says she doesn't know how she's going to tell Ben, it'll break his heart. Rebecca says it's better to tell him now than Ben finding out at lunch, and Libby agrees.
LIBBY: Hey, thanks for the chat. I've been trying to keep it all together for mum.
REBECCA: You don't have to worry about Susan, I think she's tougher than both of us.
LIBBY: Yeah, I'm still waiting for some of that to rub off.
REBECCA: You're doing fine.
Lyn comes out of Harold's and is confronted with a fully decorated Charlie's Bar - with inflatable Santa's. Lyn can't believe it! Rebecca joins Paul.
REBECCA: Merry Christmas, Lyn. Pah! Mince pies!
Number 22
Donna is staring at the deb photos. Ringo runs in - their VCE results are here. Together they get out their phones and open them.
They stare at their phones.
They stare at each other.
It's all a little bit tense.
RINGO: I can't believe it...
DONNA: What? 'Can't believe it' good? Or, 'can't believe it' disaster?
RINGO: 'Can't believe it' amazing! I got higher than I needed, I'm going to get into my course
DONNA: Oh my God!
RINGO: How mad is that?
Donna kisses him. She shows him her results, which are also amazing. Hooray! Donna is excited, she can't wait to go to uni with him. She hugs him and Ringo looks a bit unsure.
Harold's Store
Lou is dressing up as Santa in the kitchen. Lyn is moaning because she can't possibly compete when Rebecca can dip into Paul's account.
LOU: There must be a lot of money in that account. [He laughs] He hasn't even noticed that he's overpaid me for the Ramsay's yet.
LYN: It's like we need a cash injection of some kind. I don't know where we're going to get it from...
LOU: I SAID: He hasn't even noticed that he's overpaid me for the Ramsay's yet.
And the penny drops.
LYN: Lou. You wouldn't?
LOU: Technically the money is my account. We could borrow some?
LYN: LOU! Sometimes I could kiss you...!
LOU: [looking scared]Don't let's get carried away.
Number 22
Rebecca presents Declan with a frame for his photo. He takes it off her and puts it back in the bag, and sits down on the sofa. He thinks it's a stupid photo that he doesn't want to see. Rebecca think he's over-reacting.
DECLAN: It should have been Bridget.
He sighs sadly and Rebecca looks at him lovingly.
DECLAN: It's not even been sixth months, and now there's this stupid photo. I don't want to see it. It's just wrong...And I think I like her.
Rebecca sits down next to him.
DECLAN: What does that make me?
REBECCA: Well, it makes you human doesn't it?
Declan says he thinks Kate likes him too and he's an idiot. Rebecca doesn't think so - he's beginning to live again. Declan disagrees, he thinks it's too soon. Rebecca doesn't think that they always get to choose that. She reassures him that it's OK to feel the way he does. Delcan doesn't think it's fair, and Rebecca agrees. But, she doesn't want him to beat himself up about it. She tells him everything is fine, and gives him a thumbs up, which he returns.
Charlie's Bar
Paul is directing Kate and Sophie where to put a Christmassy lantern. Rebecca returns and Paul wonders what she thinks.
REBEECA: Lyn is so going down!
Rebecca pulls Kate aside to talk to her about Declan. She tells Kate that Declan likes her, and that they'd be good together. Rebecca tells Kate that he's worth it. She promises to say no more.
Rebecca returns to Paul and wants to see Lyn top this.
And then...the sound of carol singers is heard...cueing some awesome facial expressions from Rebecca and Paul.
Outside Harold's Store
Lyn looks smug as her carol singers are singing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". Rebecca isn't impressed - she has a santa suit for Paul inside.
Declan approaches Kate and wishes they'd have sorted things out before. Declan thinks it would be a shame to lose their friendship - he wants them to be friends again. He misses it, and Kate says she does too. I think she was hoping for a declaration of love though...!
Over the top of the carol singers singing Silent Night we watch Libby and Ben together on a bench, Kate and Declan and India sleeping, Libby holding onto Ben, looking sad.
Charlie's Bar
Rebecca is desperately on the phone.
Paul wonders where Sophie is, and Kate says she's crossed over to the dark side. Paul wants her back, but Kate doesn't go and get her. Paul says she can go too if she wants, but Kate sadly says she's happy here. Paul tells her that he knows it isn't easy without her mum, and without Harry - but they will make this a happy time for her. Aww, Paul the softie.
Rebecca appears, having just got off the phone.
REBECCA: [grinning] Lyn's going to freak.
Outside Harold's Store
That carol singers are still going.
RINGO: Hey, what do you know about Sydney?
LIBBY: Err...there's a big bridge and an opera house!
RINGO: Very funny. Cracking me up.
Ringo tells Libby his possible plans about uni and leaving Donna. He's not sure about leaving her and being apart form her might not be doing the right thing for them. Libby thinks he already knows what he really wants to do.
A jazz Christmassy band starts up and Rebecca and Paul dance. Lyn storms over - whatever they do, her and Lou will go one better. Rebecca thinks she should concede defeat.
LYN: Why? When we've got all that lovely cash from Paul's money transfer.
Lou can't believe she just told him! Nor can I, what a dingbat. Paul can't believe it - that's a loan for the Ramsay kids. He goes to phone the bank. Lyn turns around to her carol singers.
LYN: Sing! Come on girls, you can do it. LOUDER!
REBECCA: Come on guys! I can't hear you! Let's go!
Later...
The carol singers are leaving and Lyn wants to know what's going on.
LOU: Nothing to do with me - the choir just quit. Something to do with being overworked by a mad woman. Actually I think they left because they were broken-hearted they were drowned out.
Lyn tries to think up some ideas, which Paul reminds her she can't afford it. The transfer is being reversed. Lou thinks it's getting a bit out of hand.
LYN: Are you kidding? I haven't felt this alive in years!
Inside Harold's Store
Declan gives Kate a cute picture of India he thought she might like. He leaves and Donna is glad that they're friends again. Donna isn't sure about uni anymore, she's going to concentrate on her studies. Ringo says it's up to her, and Donna replies that as long as they're together it doesn't matter what she does. Ringo agrees - that's exactly what he thinks.
Number 22
Ringo tells Declan he'd rather be here with Donna, than in Sydney. Declan's still thinking about what he wants to do. Ringo goes to finish wrapping and packing before he goes to see the family. He leaves and Declan looks at the photo of him and Bridget, and then over at the framed photo of himself and Kate.
Number 24
Donna is rattling on about her business and Kate isn't really listening. Donna asks if she's OK and Kate explains that it's not the same without Harry or her mum and there's other stuff going on to. Donna wants to know what the other stuff is - she can't bottle it up. Kate reluctantly tells Donna that she really like Declan.
Donna tells her to stop thinking about him. Declan is off limits.
Later...
DONNA: Dec and Didge were special, they were like the golden couple. You know, they were meant to grow old together, they were soulmates. You jsut, you can't be with him - it's wrong.
KATE: It's just....It's all in my head anyway.
Declan's at the door! He asks Kate to go shopping for him to get something for India for Christmas. Kate tells him she can't and apologises before shutting the door on him.
Preview
Sophie thinks Christmas is going to be rubbish.
CALLUM: Ever heard of a Christmas miracle?
SOPHIE: This isn't some silly movie where everything has to have a happy ending!
Libby doesn't know how to tell Ben about Dan.
LUCAS: [on the phone to Dan] Ben is going to be heartbroken. Is that really the way you want to leave, ruining a kid's Christmas?!
Lucas about to tell Libby that Dan left because he felt guilty about something he did.
Lucas speeding off on a bike.
