Number 22
Donna is lying on her bed looking at the earrings Ringo gave her.
Number 28
Ringo is looking out of the window. He turns around and goes back to studying Macbeth.
Number 22
Donna looks from the earrings to her Macbeth books.
Elle comes in. She asks Donna about Ringo and then about Saffron. Donna reckons she's blown her chances of getting into fashion, and she'll never get into a good college because she's too far behind and doesn't know anything. Elle pulls out another birthday present for Donna - a Macbeth DVD.
Number 28
Ringo gives up the study and checks his phone. Nothing.
Number 22
Donna and Elle are watching Macbeth. Donna explains that the witches represent temptation etc which links with the play later and Macbeth's actions and Elle is impressed - Donna does know what she's talking about.
Number 28
It's the next morning and Zeke can't find a breakfast bar - he has one before every exam. Sunny has pinched it and she hides it from him while he tries to get it. Ringo snaps and then apologises - he didn't sleep well last night. Kate and Declan walk in and Karl wonders where Donna is. Ooops. Ringo explains that they had a fight and are on a break until the end of exams.
Charlie's Bar
Dan is nervous for the kids exam. Dan, Libby and Toadie not getting served because Charlie's is so busy and Dan leaves to get breakfast at school. They all leave the table to Elle and Lucas. Lucas wants to know what Elle's new job is.
Number 22
Elle explains she is working for Waratah Heights - to turn all the paperwork into a press release. They're a housing company. Donna comes downstairs munching carrots for brain food, until Elle tells her it's fish for brain food - not carrots. Donna leaves to seek out some fish on her way to school.
Elle notices something about Waratah Heights - last week it was zoned industrial, now they're putting a housing estate on it. Elle smells a story!
Waratah Heights
Elle is sniffing around, seeing what she can see, when she bumps into Josh Burns! They banter about the stories - and neither of them are giving anything away. Josh shoos her away, and on her way out Elle spies a trapdoor. Well, what do you know? She's going to go down it! Josh spies her, and follows her down.
The ladder is rusty and beneath Elle's feel the steps wobble. The ladder begins to come away from the wall.
JOSH: Whoa. Did you feel that? I think the ladder just moved.
ELLE: Must be all the doughnuts you're eating.
JOSH: Excuse me?
ELLE: Every lunchtime - two doughnuts. No wonder the ladder is struggling!
Elle makes it off the ladder and Josh begins some more journaling banter with her. One of the steps gives way and Josh is hanging on with just his arms - as all the other steps fall out too. Elle shouts to him, and he is kicking frantically trying t get something to hold on to. His grip slips and he falls to the floor - the ladder as well.
Moments later...
Elle is trying to wake Josh. He eventually comes around and Elle tells him not to move. She checks both of their phones for signal - but neither of them have any.
Elle looks for another way out and spots a narrow tunnel with a light at the end.
ELLE: [panicky] I'm going to have to go in there.
JOSH: What's the problem?
ELLE: No. No problem.
She's about to go, when Josh calls to her.
JOSH: I can't move my legs.
Elle looks scared and gets warily into the tunnel.
Erinsborough High
I'm going to ignore everything wrong with the next exam scene!
Libby congratulates Kate on her dancing and tells her she'll be fine in the exam. Declan and Kate compare luck items. Kate's is a little finger puppet witch, and Declan's is India's little tiny shoes.
DECLAN: I figure she's the luckiest thing to ever happen to me, so...
Donna walks in and offers her sardines around - she's eating them straight from the tin. Sunny says she's not going to sit near her in the exam room! Donna turns to Ringo and Zeke and Sunny make themselves scarce. Donna apologises to Ringo and asks him not to be mad with her anymore.
RINGO: Donna, when I said I needed a break until the exams were over, I meant it, OK? I just need to focus.
Dan comes into the corridor and sends everyone in to the classroom - reminding them not to talk once they enter, and that they shouldn't have their mobiles with them.
In the classroom
Everyone enters and sits down and begins the exam.
Zeke and Sunny are both writing hard and exchange glances.
Declan and Kate both have their lucky charms on their desks - both are scribbling away.
Donna and Ringo exchange glances - both of them look stuck. Eventually they begin to write.
RINGO: Macbeth wants to be king, but he never notices his wife Lady Macbeth. He is starting to fall apart.
DONNA: The whole thing was Lady Macbeth's fault. She pushed her husband to be ambitious, but then couldn't handle it when he started to achieve his goals.
RINGO: Macbeth should have listened, because then he would have understood that being together is much more important than his ambition.
DONNA: Lady Macbeth had issues. She should have dealt with them herself instead of trying to make Macbeth do it for her.
RINGO: If the two of them had talked they could have worked it out. But they didn't.
BOTH: And so it ends in tragedy.
The two of them exchange glances.
Erinsborough High - corridor
The teens are all happy with how it went.
DECLAN: If I never have to read another Shakespeare book in my life, and I mean never, I will be happy.
ZEKE: [in a strange voice] Thou doth protest too much!
Donna and Ringo talk about the exam - they both agree that they think they did enough to pass. Ringo reckons the worst is over and Donna thinks they should go out and celebrate. She then remembers that Ringo has other exams and apologises. They'll have lots of time to hang out when school is over.
Charlie's Bar
Susan gets off the phone to Zeke and relays back to Toadie and Karl that all the teens think the exam went well. Toadie isn't surprised - even he knows a load of Macbeth after spending so much time in the same house as Libby.
KARL: [dramatically, with a spoon] Is this a dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand?
TOADIE: [deadpan] No Karl, it's a spoon.
Karl and Susan laugh and got to sit at a table. Lucas comes over and explains to Toadie that Elle is missing - she was meant to meet him for lunch at Charlie's. Toadie thinks they should arrange to meet elsewhere as Dan and Libby, Karl and Susan are meeting before going to the ultrasound.
Charlie's Bar/Waratah Heights
Lucas gets a call from Elle who explains the whole situation to him. She's up on normal ground level now and has called for an ambulance. Despite Lucas' pleas she has to go back down and check on Josh. Lucas begs her not to, but she hangs up on him and does it anyway.
Underground Waratah Heights
Elle's back and tells Josh that she's rung for help. She notices that he's cold and takes off her jacket to cover him. Josh nearly falls asleep and she urges him to keep talking to her. Josh knows he sounds like a wuss but asks her to hold his hand, which she does.
JOSH: Don't let go.
ELLE: I won't. I promise.
A little while later
They're waiting still for the ambulance. Josh is still freezing so Elle lies down next to him and gives him a sort of side hug for warmth.
JOSH: I always knew you had a thing for me.
They laugh.
ELLE: [sarcastically]It must have really hurt to sack me. You must have lost a lot of sleep over that one.
JOSH: Not a wink.
He apologises for sacking her - she's a good journo. She tells him that when they get out of there she'll be wanting her job back!
JOSH: I'll say I was delirious.
Josh gives her his memory stick and tells her to hang on to it. She very reluctantly agrees. The ambulance arrives.
