Number 26
Rebecca checks into India's room and finds Declan sitting on the floor holding his daughter. She realizes that Declan probably hasn't slept all night and tells him she thinks he should reconsider the idea of letting the Parkers take India with them to Oakey.
The Gym
Dan and Libby are working out when Toadie comes in to give them a report on how the delivery of the cakes went. Dan gets worried that the pepper icing cakes were handed over, but Libby says she and Steph baked new ones. Libby wants to know if there's anything they can do to help the Parkers, but Toadie suggests they leave them alone for the moment. Dan asks about any news regarding a funeral, but before Toadie can answer they see Steve coming out of the locker room for some training. Steve lines up at the punching ball so Dan walks over to hold it while Steve starts hitting the ball.
Number 26
Rebecca tells Declan they need to talk about what's going to happen with India, but he's more concerned about the baby bottle he's holding in his hand. The bottle contains the last of Bridget's breast milk, after that it's all gone.
The Gym
Steve is still hitting the punching ball as hard and fast as he can until he's all out of energy. Dan slowly walks away from the ball and leaves an exhausted Steve to himself.
Number 26
Declan is staring into space whilst holding India and Rebecca can't do more than look at him and wish she could make it all better.
The Gym
Steve is sitting in the locker room when Miranda finds him. She says Dan called her to tell her about Steve's mental state. Miranda asks if he's okay and he says he's getting there. She reminds him that he doesn't have to be tough all the time and Steve says it was just really hard to have to tell Riley about what happened to his sister. Steve asks if Miranda has talked to Rebecca, but she doesn't fall for his attempt to change the subject. Miranda says the accident wasn't Steve's fault, it was the horse in the middle of the road that caused it. It was an accident and anyone would have reacted the same way that he did. Steve's not convinced, but lets his wife give him a hug.
Harold's store
Elle is having a coffee and working on her laptop in one end of the store when Dan comes in to speak to Steve who's sitting to himself at the other end of the store. Dan takes a seat and says he just wants to explain about calling Miranda earlier. Steve tells him not to worry about it. Dan offers his assistance whether it's for another workout or if Steve fancies a chat. Steve says he wishes he had never organized the holiday to Oakey and that he just wants the police report to come in so that he'll know who to blame. Now all he can do is ask himself over and over why different things happened the way they did. The mention of a police report makes Elle start to pay attention over at her table. Steve gets ready to leave and Kate comes over to take away the dirty dishes. She says she's really sorry to hear about Bridget and Steve thanks her for telling him. Elle also wants to put her apologies forward and tells Steve that 'we all loved Bridget'. Once Steve leaves Elle goes back to her table to make a phone call. She's holding pictures from the accident scene in her hand and asks the person on the phone who she could call to find out about a road accident report.
Lassiter's
Elle is still on the phone and walks out of Harold's store and over towards Lassiter's. She's trying to find out what kind of damages are typical for a road accident when she bumps into Lucas. He notices the pictures from the accident scene that Elle's holding in her hands and wants to know where she's got them from. Lucas works out that Elle is writing about the accident and Elle admits that Josh the editor put her on the case as he found out Elle lives in the same street as the Parkers. Lucas tries to get Elle to drop the story as she's too close to the Parker family to write it. Elle won't give him a straight answer and tries to pretend that the call she just made wasn't about finding out more information for her story but rather to see if she could speed up the police report coming back. Lucas wants to know if Elle would then also be the one to tell the Parkers if the police report finds that the accident was caused by driver error. Elle says anything could have happened to the car- mechanical defect, maintenance issues... Before she can finish her sentence Lucas interrupts her and says that the garage were the ones to service the Parkers' car and they did a solid job so that possible cause of accident can be taken off the list.
Harold's store
Toadie, Libby and Steph are doing some shopping for the Parkers. Lucas comes over and asks to speak to Steph in private. They walk over to the other side of the store. Lucas asks what Steph can remember about servicing the Parkers' car and if everything was alright when the returned it. She says that of course it was alright or she wouldn't have returned the car. Lucas apologises for asking about it, but Steph says it's alright as she already had the same thought herself. She's already been over to the garage to check the paperwork and it's all clear. There was nothing wrong with the car. Lucas says he just wanted to double check that everything was alright and also apologises for dumping a lot of work on Steph. She says it was wrong of her to mention their 'moment' in the first place, but she's happy that he's now willing to talk about it. They hug and just then Elle walks into the store. Jumping to the wrong conclusion, Elle leaves as suddenly as she came. Libby is also watching from afar with a concerned look on her face.
Lassiter's
Declan sits down outside Harold's store while Kate watches from another table where she's picking up dirty dishes. Harry comes over to her and drops off a big bag full of clothes, toys and other stuff. Kate brings it over to Declan and gives the bag to him.
KATE: I thought it might be good for India.
DECLAN: Thanks, but India's going to Oakey in a few days.
KATE: I thought it was just the Parkers.
DECLAN: It is.
KATE: You're letting her go?
DECLAN: Yeah, they offered.
Kate wants to say something, but stops herself when she sees the look on Declan's face. She starts walking away, but only gets a few steps away before she turns around and walks back over to Declan's table. Kate says she knows it's none of her business, but she thinks Declan will change his mind later on about wanting to keep India. She starts talking about how she couldn't do what Declan will have to do with both school, shopping, housework etc and moves on to talk about how she wouldn't have coped without her brother and sister after their Mum died. This hits a bit of a nerve with Declan who decides it's time for him to go so he thanks Kate for the clothes and leaves.
Number 26 - Kitchen
A chocolate cake sits on the middle of the kitchen table (possibly the one the other Ramsay St residents baked the other day) when Libby drops off two big bags of shopping to Rebecca. Libby says that the Napier-Parkers just need to let their friends know if there's anything else they want help with. Rebecca says that actually there is and explains the situation with Miranda and Steve taking India with them to Oakey. Libby thinks it's a bit early for them to assume that Declan isn't coping since it's only been a day since Bridget died, but Rebecca explains that Declan accepted that they would take India away. Declan comes home and just drops off the bag from Kate in the kitchen and walks into the living room without a single word. Rebecca says she doesn't know what Declan will do without India as he won't have anything to hold on to then.
Number 26 - India's room
Declan is going through India's clothes when Libby finds him. Libby says she's heard about his decision regarding India and just wants him to know that it does get better over time even though it doesn't seem like it right now. Declan asks how she coped with it then and Libby says she didn't cope, not for a long time. But she did have Ben who needed her and as it turned out she needed him just as much. Declan starts crying and says he can barely even look at India as she's got Bridget's eyes. Libby sits down next to him as he says he can't do it alone, Bridget was the smart one out of the two of them. Libby says she's not going to lie, it is really hard to do it all by yourself. But India can sense what's going on and would know that Mum's gone and that Dad is scared. Declan says he's got nothing to offer his daughter, but Libby says that India won't need much. All she needs is her Dad. Libby leaves to give Declan a chance to think things through. He hears Bridget's voice in his head asking him to promise that he will look after India and he replies to her saying that he will.
Number 26 - India's room
It's now night time and Declan is sitting in a rocking chair holding a sleeping India in his arms. He starts telling her a story like Bridget used to, but doesn't get very far so has to start over.
DECLAN: Once up on a time there was a girl named Bridget and she was smart and beautiful. And everybody wanted to be her friend.
Miranda and Steve appear in the doorway listening in on Declan's story.
DECLAN: She loved animals and she loved football. And she loved to beat anybody in a fight. In fact, she was probably the most stubborn person you would ever meet. She was also the most loyal and she knew she hated being told what to do.
Steve and Miranda share a look then leave without letting Declan know they've been there.
DECLAN: In fact she hated it more than brussel sprouts and mustard pickle.
Number 26 - Kitchen
With Rebecca hovering in the background, Miranda tells Steve that Zeke and Donna stopped by earlier asking if they could be the ones to decorate the room for the funeral. They talk about how Bridget never really liked flowers so if those who want to could give donations instead then that would be better and in terms of music they need to talk to Bridget's friends. Declan comes in and asks them all to take a seat so that they can talk. He says he's changed his mind and he wants to keep India with him. He tells Miranda and Steve not to worry about whether or not he can look after his daughter, because he will. They say they never doubted that he could do it. Declan says he and India will come and visit them in Oakey 'heaps' and they can always come back to Ramsay St to visit as well unless they find it too hard. Declan and the Parkers have a group hug.
Number 26
Miranda is standing in the living room staring into space when Steve comes in and puts his arms around her from behind. They agree that it will be hard to leave India behind, but they know she'll be OK. Rebecca appears behind them and apologises for being so protective about India before. Miranda says it's fine, they know that Rebecca was just looking out for Declan. Miranda asks if Rebecca would like to help organize Bridget's funeral and she says she does and they hug. Declan walks in and asks if they would all like some cake. They all go into the kitchen and Declan starts cutting up the cake. He says he can't be sure exactly what flavour the cake is and they talk about how Toadie mentioned there was a baking competition. Without thinking, Declan cuts up a slice of cake for Bridget as well, but they don't realise until Rebecca is about to put the plate for Bridget down at her seat at the table. There is an awkward pause before they decide to put the plate for Bridget on the table even though she's not there. They share some positive comments about the cake and glancing over at Bridget's plate Declan says it's not so bad after all.
The Gym
Steph is working out when Elle comes in. Elle says she's been trying to get in touch, but Steph's mobile has been switched off. Elle says she spoke to Lucas earlier and wanted to get Steph's perspective as well. Thinking that Elle is talking about the hug in the coffee shop, Steph says it was her fault, she was just being an idiot before and is prepared to take full responsibility. Now she just wants to clear the air between the two of them. When Steph starts talking about stealing 'him' away, Elle realises that they're not talking about the same thing. Elle was talking about the Parkers' car.
The Gym
Elle follows Steph into the girls' locker room and wants an explanation for why Steph would be using the words 'stealing him away'. Steph pretends she was talking about the Parkers' car earlier, but Elle won't fall for it. She wants to know why Steph would like to clear the air between them and wants full details of whatever has happened. Steph says she and Lucas shared a 'moment', but it didn't mean anything. Elle asks how long ago this happened and Steph says it was a few weeks ago. Steph says Elle can put all the blame on her, but shouldn't blame Lucas. Besides, it didn't mean anything. Elle then wonders why Lucas didn't tell her that it happened.
