Recap
Paul telling Kirsten that he isn't with Rebecca anymore and them pashing.
Marco asking Harold he is interested in selling No. 24.
Toadie explaining to Rebecca why he doesn't want the press involved yet.
Rebecchi/Cammeniti Law Firm
Rebecca comes clean and admits that she told Elle and that it is going to be printed. To say Rosie and Toadie are not happy would be an understatement as she tries to get phone Elle but its ringing out. Toadie starts to leave the office to find a way to salvage the case and their plans.
Charlie's
Heather, Riley and Elle are going through the information that they have associated with the collapse. Brad surprised them with an appearance and he is most surprised to see 'Skinny' aka Elle. Elle tells Brad her scoop and he is most impressed and says that the story will be in tomorrow's paper.
As Brad takes Heather aside to talk, Rebecca, Toadie and Rosie arrive and tell Elle that she can't run with the story but Elle tells them its too late, Brad has decided to run with the story.
No. 24
OMG we finally see the inside of No. 24 after an absence of 8 months!!! And confirmation that Tazzle is alive too!!!
Harold is looking at the classifieds and Lou questions whether he has the strength to tour Australia after moaning about travelling to see Sky in a plane for 4 hours. He dismisses those allegations and shows Lou some information he has obtained for campervans but does confirm to Lou that although he hasn't sold up to Marco, he is seriously thinking about it.
Charlie's
Toadie is trying to touch Brad's heartstrings to get the story stopped but he isn't budging at all and Elle suggests that they sit on it for a couple of days to see what the council do. Brad agrees to sit on the story... as long as they can guarantee him a no-confidentiality clause, which of course they can't, so he tells them that the story is going to print.
Rebecchi/Cammeniti Law Firm
Rosie thinks that the council will settle when they see the headlines but Toadie doesn't think so. Rebecca puts in her notice and Rosie refuses to accept it and Toadie is forced to agree given that time isn't on their side. However, Rosie lays down the law to her - no second guessing them!
Inside Toadie's office, he accuses her of going soft but Rosie reminds him that if it weren't for Rebecca they wouldn't be working on this case and more importantly that despite the emotional problems they've both had lately they won't be giving up!
ROSIE: We have one more day to make a difference and we're going to use it to its best advantage. No more sulking okay!
Toadie gets his phone out to talk to Jackie Jones.
The General Store
Kirsten is showing off her uniform and the plans she has for the holiday in Queensland with Mickey and Harold mentions that is on his destination chart too. He tells Kirsten and Valda of his plans and Valda thinks it's a great idea especially as it means seeing Australia. Valda suggests to Kirsten that she co-ordinates her visit with Harold so they can meet up but Lou pips up saying that why would Kirsten and Mickey want to be held up by an old codger like him!
VALDA: Well you are a little ray of sunshine today aren't you?!
Kirsten tells Harold that is a great idea to meet up as Toadie enters the store and sits at a table with Jackie.
Bypassing the pleasantries, he reminds her about her about how many of her constituents suffered in the collapse. She seems rather taken aback by his attitude and is quick to remind Toadie that it was a tragedy. "One that could have been easily avoided," he replies back although Jackie doesn't to think so and Toadie brings up the fact that the 24-hour security was stopped.
TOADIE: I think its time we got serious and talked compensation, don't you?
Jackie tells him she doesn't and adds that he doesn't have a case and mentions Steph when Toadie goes to call the Erinsborough News.
TOADIE: Miss Scully has nothing to do with this.
JACKIE: Oh no? The council gets dragged through the mud, so does she.
TOADIE: You used her proxy vote without her knowledge.
JACKIE: And how are you going to prove that?
Toadie doesn't answer that and Jackie reiterates that she (and the community) should put the awful tragedy behind them but he doesn't agree with that until real compensation has been paid. Jackie gets personal and says she was sorry to hear about his recent personal problems and hopes Steph is home soon. Almost smirking, she then questions why he is being so loyal to Steph after the non-wedding.
JACKIE: It's just nice to see someone so faithful...no matter what.
She about turns and heads out the door but not before Toadie tells her to make sure she mentions their meeting to her lawyers "I'm sure they won't feel as kindly towards me as you do."
Charlie's
Heather and Riley agree on a date (she's cooking) as Elle enters the bar and she invites Elle to sit with them. Elle confirms that Brad isn't changing his mind and Heather refuses to assist because she too thinks it's a good story. Riley and Heather then debate amongst themselves how to get on the good side of Brad.
Conveniently, the legal trio enter the bar and standing right beside the journo's table, Toadie mentions that they are awaiting a call from the council about compensation. Elle joins them and apologises for not being able to stop Brad but they are confident a deal will be struck with the council before the paper hits the street.
No. 24
Valda is suggesting places for Harold to visit as Lou packs up his belongings in the background. Harold is surprised to see Lou is leaving especially as nothing is agreed with Marco and that there aren't arrangements in place for him. "Very kind of you oh great banterful one" says Lou but thinks it is a good idea for him to get a new housemate... one that isn't so fussy all the time.
Harold asks Valda to leave so he can talk to his friend alone. He reiterates that he doesn't want Lou to move out especially as his plans aren't definite. Lou rejects an offer to talk about it as the only thing he wants to know is when Harold is leaving town!
The General Store
Kirsten catches Paul as he comes into the store to see his approval on how she looks before starting her first shift. Paul cuts short the small talk to suggest they meet properly later, which Kirsten seems happy with and before she leaves the store thanks Paul for the job... and everything.
Charlie's
As they head to the bar to settle their bill, Rebecca and Elle chat about the positives to come out of this - that she has her job back and gets to spend time with the handsome Mr Parker who is sitting in a corner with Heather. Elle denies she has feelings for Riley especially after she pushed him away but Rebecca says that he will understand that she was ill. "You two had the promise of something good" says Rebecca but turning to look at Riley, Elle replies that she thinks he has moved on...but she can handle it, it's in the past.
Rebecchi/Cammeniti Law Firm
Well despite what Toadie said last week about him and Steph being over, he still her picture on his desk and is sitting looking at their wedding rings waiting for that all important call.
Literally jumping for the phone when it goes, he finds Rebecca has got there first but it isn't the council calling rather someone about a survey. Rosie reassures him that Jackie (or Steph) will call as they enter his office.
Toadie tells his partner that Jackie implied he was a fool for defending Steph but Rosie replies that's a good thing, he has rattled her.
ROSIE: The clients are one thing but this is make or break for us. Are you sure you can handle whatever Jackie throws at you? Especially the stuff about Steph?
TOADIE: Jackie Jones was responsible for that accident and she shall be held accountable.
Lassiter's Lake
Kirsten arrives for her chat with Paul but he has to reject her advances towards him before starting on the let down speech he has probably used a thousand times before. She eventually twigs what he actually wanted to talk about and he doesn't correct her when she thinks the reason he is calling it off is because it's too soon after Rebecca.
Charlie's (night time)
Brad calls Skinny over with a lead she wants her (and Heather and Riley) to follow up for tomorrow's paper. Elle is thrilled to be getting work again and goes off with Brad to discuss it. Meanwhile Riley brings up the chat he had with Heather earlier about being "totally professional" and seductively Heather says they can keep things "professional" with him as Elle looks on envious from the other side of the bar.
The General Store
Valda delivers news from Shelley Bay - that Steph is enjoying quality time with Lyn & Oscar and that Oscar is recovering well from his appendicitis. Harold volunteers himself if help is required which irritates Lou who thought he'd heard the end of Harold being the good Samaritan routine in favour of the 'Harold Bishop time'. Surprisingly its Valda who chastises Lou and says he can fight with her if he wants one although Lou denies (despite the tone he is using) that they are fighting.
Thinking he is worried about money, Valda offers to buy Harold's stake in the business once she's sweet talked the bank manager but Lou quickly replies that Harold is only an employee and he only retains the business just so that Harold has something to do. Harold takes offence at Lou's childish behaviour.
HAROLD: I need your job about as much as I need your hand-fisted emotional blackmail. You can just go hang.
Valda is stunned at what Harold has said but he follows it up by telling Lou that he has made his decision to leave a lot easier.
LOU: (sniping at Harold) Good.
HAROLD: (sniping at Lou) Fine.
LOU: (retaliating) Excellent.
Both then scuttle in different directions leaving Valda rooted to the spot.
Ramsay Street (next day)
A still angry Lou is sweeping the driveway repeating what Harold said to him other the previous night. He stops to catch his breath and Harold arrives wanting to explain but Lou isn't listening and puts his words down to him being in shock.
After retrieving the newspaper, Harold spots that Lou looks unwell but replies that he is fine when Harold questions him and grabs the paper from Harold.
The main page has a photo of Steph on it along with 'ROOF COLLAPSE COUNCILLOR SKIPS TOWN' and Lou reads the start of the article:
Stephanie Scully, ring leader of the Council decision to strip security from the deadly dance party warehouse, has gone into hiding.
Both are aghast at the rubbish that has been printed and watch as Toadie comes out of No. 28 to collect his newspaper.
No. 22
Paul and Rebecca are reading the newspaper too and aren't impressed - Paul for the fact that Elle shouldn't be back at work and Rebecca for them printing lies.
"They're not lies," says Elle as she makes her way down from the bedrooms. Rebecca stands up for Steph and points out that it was Jackie who used Steph's vote but Elle isn't listening and has the proof to back it up. Rebecca doesn't believe Elle's claims that Steph siphoned money from the security budget to pay for childcare places but Elle is sticking to what she printed even if she is a neighbour.
REBECCA: Whatever proof you've got its false okay. Someone is trying to set Steph up.
Elle isn't totally sure of what Rebecca is saying and she asks Elle's help to prove it.
Rebecchi/Cammeniti Law Firm
To say Toadie is annoyed by the article (and what he will tell Steph) is the understatement of the episode. Rosie thinks it may be a good thing (Jackie panicking) because mistakes will have been made but emphasises to them all (Rebecca has now arrived) that they don't panic nor (despite how they may feel) lash out at Jackie.
Rebecca volunteers her (and Elle's) help to get the proof that Jackie is lying but when Rebecca asks if Toadie is in, he withdraws from the case because he feels that he's not only compromised their client and the firm but Steph too.
The General Store
Elle comes of the phone from Brad to tell Rebecca that the minutes Steph gave her were the fakes, the ones they got from the council match the other documents they got last night. Rebecca is insistent that Jackie has tampered with them but Elle explains that another councillor (Lydia O'Brien) has verified that they ones they have are correct.
Elle leaves Paul and Rebecca (who is frustrated at the whole thing) and Paul suggests that the two of them go off somewhere once the case is all over. Rebecca likes his suggestion and as they begin to kiss and hug, Kirsten enters the store and spots them.
