Buddhist Retreat
In a scene that'll have Stax fans throwing stuff at their screens Max and Katya discover that they've been put in a double room (despite Max asked for separate rooms). Katya jumps into bed fully clothed and Max asks her if she might be too hot. She says no as Max warns her that he snores. He gets into bed and then notices the lights are still on. Both of them get up to switch them off. Max rushes a bit too much, aggravating an old footy injury that makes his back seize up. Katya's all for going and getting someone but Max says all he needs is a rest - and a massage.
Katya obliges.
Number 26
The next morning and Carmella pays Lyn a visit. Lyn's made tons of cakes for a fundraiser. Carmella is pleased and Lyn admits that it's the least she can do - she's not been a very regular church-goer of late and feels a bit hypocritical.
They get on to the subject of 'poor Elle' and Carmella says one would never have known about it from the way Paul's been acting. Lyn is very surprised to discover that Carmella has been counselling him, but it doesn't look like she'll be able to bring him into the faith as Paul's interests seem to lie more in the flesh than the spirit.
Number 30
Janae receives a $1000 cheque from her Nan, who wants her to spend it on something extravagant. When Boyd reads that Nan Timmins doesn't want Janelle to know Janae explains that they hate each other.
Buddhist Retreat
Max is trying (and failing) to eat the buckwheat porridge. Katya can't face another day of visualisation and Max says that the bed was torture (it's only due to Katya's magic fingers that he's still walking). Katya quickly says that they should go. Max agrees, but he was kinda enjoying letting his imagination run wild. Katya has a flashback to yet more MaxPashing and says that they should get back to the real world.
They turn and nearly walk right into the retreat leader (and all their fellow retreat attendees, sitting at a long table, staring at them). The retreat leader says it's perfectly normal that it's getting a little too much for them. Max tells him that his back has seized up and the leader says that there just happens to be a session on healing (and then, after that, a session with more pertinence to Katya: Making Our Desires Come True).
Next thing Max and Katya have staged a jailbreak. They see the leader looking at them from upon a bridge and break into a run, giggling. They jump into the car and sing along with 'Leave This All Behind' by Philip Foxman, before speeding away.
Number 22
Lyn demands to know what Paul's up to with Carmella. Paul thinks she's jealous and Lyn is convinced he's out to seduce her - a nun! (What, does she think she's living in a soap or something? Duh.) Anyhoo she tells him that she and Carmella are onto him. Paul says it might be a good idea, now he thinks of it, but he, being a good Catholic lad, had never even thought of it before now. Lyn wonders why he's making jokes when Elle's sick. Paul says he's getting counselling because he needs help. Flirting with Carmella is just a bit of fun. Lynnie is outraged that he's so self-involved. She wants him to prove that he's as generous as he claims to be or else he'll get no more attention from her.
Number 30
Janae is coming up with loadsa ideas for how they can spend the money; personal chefs, hiring a Harley Davidson, buying an OTT wedding gown. Boyd thinks all those ideas are rubbish and they should open a savings account.
JANAE: Since when did I marry Harold?
She reminds him that her nan said they had to be irresponsible.
A Road Somewhere
Max pulls over and asks Katya what way she wants to go; the boring way or the scenic route? She thought he wanted to get home quickly but Max says he quite fancies more of a break. And then there's his back...he tells her that it's been 'strangely better' since they left the retreat. Katya decides to bring in Steph, saying his wife would be happy to see him back early, but Max thinks she'd like a bit more of a break too. Katya stares at him and then remarks on the lovely surroundings. It seems Max is too busy map reading to hear her. He declares they should go and have some fun...hang the consequences.
Scarlet Bar
Paul shouts Boyd lunch - but only because Lyn is sitting in the bar to see just what a generous guy he really is. Lyn isn't buying it though (because she isn't daft). She's off to a meeting with her lawyers and she's told them to invoice their fee to Paul.
Carmella comes in with a charity tin, just as Lyn leaves. She informs Paul that the crisis centre will be closed by the end of the month the way things are going. Paul gives her enough to keep it open for another day.
He takes Carmella aside and asks what she'd say to him paying the centre's operating costs for the next 12 months. Would she be grateful enough to spend some time with him? Carmella tells him she already does that. Paul states it in more definite terms...
PAUL: I'm talking you, me, and a night together.
Carmella clearly thinks he's off his heid and thanks him for his donation before walking off. Paul asks what all the needy children will do without the centre and Carmella says they'll find another way.
Number 30
Boyd returns home to find that Janae (wearing a Lyn Scully-inspired leopard print dress) has organised for a photographer to come round and take their photos (along a jungle theme). Boyd isn't happy she isn't at school and has blown all the money on these photos. Her nan will love it, though!
The Middle Of Nowhere
Meanwhile, on the scenic route, Max and Katya have broken down. Max suddenly wishes Steph were here (but only for her mechanical expertise). Katya's mobile is out of range and Max muses that they could be stuck here for days or weeks before anyone finds them (no one even knows where they are) - a situation which he thinks most definitely calls for chocolate. Katya thinks that something isn't quite right (besides Max being so uncharacteristically laid back) - is there really something wrong with the car? Max tells her she can try it for herself if she likes - the power keeps cutting out.
Katya decides to walk into town, to get a signal, but Max says it's miles and he won't let her go all that way on her own. She starts yelling, wondering why they had to come this way in the first place, and, even though Max tries to calm her down, she decides to leave in pursuit of hitching a ride.
MAX: Katya!
KATYA, walking away: I can't be with you!
Lassiter's Lake
Carmella is standing, deep in thought, when Lynnie and her briefcase appear. Lyn confesses that she's just found out how bad things are for her - she could lose everything. There's nothing she can do, unless she compromises her principles. And if she doesn't do that, Oscar could be on the crisis centre doorstep, literally (she's obviously forgotten all about Joe...)
Lyn wonders if she does something wrong for her family, will He forgive her? Carmella tells her that God always forgives us when we repent. Lyn says she can't repent while she is committing a sin knowingly. Carmella says that the best outcome, then, is achieving what they want, without compromising their morals.
Carmella and Lyn decide to pray together for guidance.
Number 30
Boyd and Janae get their photos done, but Boyd isn't really into it - he's only doing this for his wife. The photographer bloke wonders if he's ever thought of modelling professionally (Boyd gives a grumpy 'no').
Janae is just off the phone from her nan; she wants to send them more money and catch up more often with Janae when she's in town. Of course, Janelle can't know, as Kim's family has always treated her badly because she's not as loaded as they are. Boyd doesn't think she should get involved but Janae thinks it's time her dad's family put out. They just have to make sure Janelle doesn't find out.
Number 22
Carmella tells Paul (who's acting like a total sleazebag, by the way) that she's been thinking about his offer and, if he's prepared to pledge the funds, then she's prepared to spend the night with him.
He wants to make the arrangements now. As he writes a cheque he tells her that he underestimated her; she really is still her father's daughter.
Number 26
There's no getting away from Paul today because now he's at Lyn's place, giving her cups of tea; good deed #15. Lyn finds he's donated to the crisis centre, and she's convinced it's a bribe. Paul says Carmella told him about it and he had a sudden rush to the head, resulting in his generous donation. Lyn buys this right away and says she just knew that Paul was a good man! Oh, Lynnie, why'd you have to go and let the side down now??
Paul hugs her and wonders if he'll get a reward. They walk off to the bedroom as Lyn giggles.
Ramsay Street - outside Number 30
Boyd thinks Janae's daft to think she'll be able to keep this from Janelle. His phone rings - it's Susan - and he tells her that Janae is just on her way.
Max arrives back, without Katya. Just as he and Boyd talk Katya walks up number 28's driveway with the wheelie bin. He calls out her name but she just glances up then walks back inside.
Boyd watches, slightly confused and intrigued, as his dad runs off towards number 28 with Katya's bag.
Number 28
Katya is all serious looking when Max knocks on the door and tells her that he won't leave until she speaks to him. She lets him in and walks off to the kitchen area, clearly nervous. He asks why she ran off and she tells him she had to. He says it was dangerous for her just to run off and Katya retorts that it was dangerous that he put them in that position in the first place - he knew the car was going to break down! Max doesn't know what she's talking about.
KATYA: Look, I can't pretend anymore, Max.
MAX: Pretend what?
KATYA: We have to be honest with one another and ourselves. We're falling for each other and you know it.
