The Recap in which TPTB demonstrate Continuity
Rachel tells Katya she wishes she lived with Susan again. CamRob turns on the gas whilst Isabelle is *asleep* with a newborn baby in her arms.
Outside Number 22 where everyone's running - except Izzy
Lyn is knocking on the door - she has a folder in her hands. No-one answers, so she goes to put the folder under the door and smells gas. Then tells us.
LYN: Gas!
No! Really?! She runs to the window and sees Izzy. Then tells us.
LYN: Izzy! Izzy!
Yeah, can't hear you through double glazing, love. So she runs round the side of the house, flailing arms and all, as the drumbeat and fast synth music continues in the background.
She runs at the camera. She runs away from the camera. She runs up some steps. Is there no end to this woman's talents? Apparently not because she kicks Paul's super-fortified, triple-locked, fort knox backdoor in.
She coughs at the gas, calls to Izzy to wake up and takes a crying Charlie. As she runs outside, she runs into Paul and CamRob and a very nice sports car. She tells him Izzy's in there, and there's leaking gas. Leaking?! Positively raging! CamRob runs into the house and takes Isabelle from the sofa. She's completely unconscious, yet holds tightly onto his shoulder (note her gripping fingers) as he leaves the house with her in his arms. Paul calls an ambulance and CamRob says the gas is still on and goes to turn it off.
A shot of Lyn holding Charlie.
Dum Dum Dum!
The General Store where Katya is not Katty At All
Rach and Zeke tell Katya that Susan wouldn't admit she's upset because she wouldn't want the kids to feel responsible, but they know she's not happy. Katya knows that Alex would want them to make Susan happy, but she didn't realise that Susan was so fragile; she thought she was so capable. Rachel, Zeke and Katya agree that they've bonded again, now - so Rachel thinks that maybe they should live with Susan...Katya agrees and thinks she should live there too. Zeke can't believe that this is Katya talking - after all, she and Susan are hardly the best of friends.
Zeke thinks they should ask Susan - but Katya thinks it's more complicated; Susan won't love it if she thinks they're doing it out of pity for her.
Number 28
The Kinski kids are doing a very poor rendition of "How To Convince Susan We Need Help" and she ain't buying it. Actually, I think she's deliberately making it difficult, coming up with reasons why they shouldn't need her help at all. Good ol' Susie.
KATYA: I mean, here I am dishing out all this advice and most of the time I feel younger than Zeke!
SUSAN: Well, Zeke and Rachel can always come to me, they know that.
KATYA: And who would I go to?
SUSAN: What do you mean?
She's SO making them work for it! It's rather lovely to see them getting on.
But having said that, I don't think she was anticipating the next request - could they all live with her, please? They come as a package deal these days. Susan looks all touched, even with her dreadfully flat post-Plane-Crash hair, and of course they can live with her - how soon can they move in?
Rach bags Libby's old room and her and Zeke run off. Susan suggests to Katya that next time she rehearse the speech some more. Katya is worried it'll be too much pressure for Susan, but she says no - Alex would be so happy to have such a thoughtful daughter. She welcomes Katya home, and they hug.
Aw. All we need now is a father who's alive and well.
Where *is* Karl when you need him?
Erinsborough Hospital where Max is Unfazed
Max saunters in oh so casually, and without a trace of panic asks Paul if Charlie will be alright. Paul says yes, they're just doing more tests. Izzy's got a headache and they're keeping an eye on Lyn. He tells Max that the gas was left on, but he doesn't know how it happened.
Max does - it was Isabelle. Steph comes running in asking after her baby, and won't take no for an answer. Now *that's* more like a panicked parent!
Cut to later where Max, Steph (holding Charlie), CamRob and Paul come into Isabelle's hospital room. Max asks her if she's incapable of thinking of anyone but herself, but Izzy doesn't know what she's done. Max tells her she stuffed up, and Paul tells her that she left the gas on. Izzy denies it - she turned the gas off, she knows she did, but Paul tells her that CamRob found it on.
Isabelle protests her innocence - she would never hurt Charlie; but Steph is too upset and knew she should have trusted her own instincts. Paul doesn't understand why Isabelle always tries to sabotage her own happiness, and saunters away to see the doctor.
CamRob creepily takes Isabelle's hand and makes guilty-looking faces.
It must be horrible when no-one believes you, but I guess that's what happens when you've lied and cheated so many times before.
Number 28
What a lovely juxtaposition to the last scene! There's something ironic about it, but I won't go into detail.
Susie-cruise is pleased that Rachel's back because she can wash Audrey for her. Katya tells Susan she won't unpack in case it doesn't all work out, but Susan thinks she's mad wasting all that money on rent. Rachel finds some chocolate wrapper. Whose is it, please?
SUSAN: Ah, yes, ah, that's from when, ah, you and Zeke were here last time.
RACH: Me and Zeke were never allowed to eat chocolate on the couch. Neither of us likes dark chocolate.
SUSAN: (making a guilty face) Janelle. She was house-sitting.
RACH: Oh, and look! There's *more* of them!
SUSAN: Oh, alright! There was a Las Novella marathon over Easter. So shoot me.
RACH: Oh, tell me! Did they catch Rosalita impersonating her comatose twin sister?
SUSAN: No, they haven't! I don't know how it's gonna end, but you just know it's not going to be pretty.
TOO FUNNY! And one wonders if because of this mention, that Susan will click about CamRob, and it won't end prettily...
Stingray's at the door - he wants to watch a DVD with Susan, who reminds him that she doesn't spend all her time watching TV - which he laughs at. Rach tells him that the Kinski kids are here to stay, and then Zeke turns up and announces that they can all go to the Bishops' and have a barbecue and use the pool. After Easter? Isn't it cold?!
Meantime, Katya is folding up some of Rachel's clothes, one T-shirt has "Nice Puppies" written on it. Stingray doesn't want to join them until Rach innocently asks 'why not' and holds her bikini against her body. He agrees to come along...
Erinsborough Hospital where...
...Max goes to get a nurse to sort Charlie out, and Lyn coos at Charlie in Steph's arms. Steph tells her mother that she should have trusted her instincts, and Lyn says that she knows she drives her daughter crazy sometimes. She would have left her alone more, but Steph was so sick, and she was so terrified for her.
They hug and make up. Aw.
Number 22 where Isabelle Isn't Believed
Isabelle returns home to Paul and CamRob, and questions whether or not she's welcome there anymore.
PAUL: Ah, see, I should have predicted this. First you stuff up, and then you go into self-denial, followed very very closely by 'destroy' mode.
CAMROB: Give her a break, dad.
Paul says he knows it wasn't intentional, but she was so careless even though she was so desperate to look after Charlie. They look at the gas switch again, and she shouts that she knows she turned everything off. CamRob suggests that maybe the pilot light just went out, but she knows it was off. She would have smelt the gas. Paul reminds her that she fell asleep...
Backyard of Number 24 where it's Too Cold for a BBQ
Zeke and Scott cook sausages, and Zeke is being nerdy about the fat content and volatility of sausages. Susan suggests that Bree and Janae come over, but they're at the footie. Scott explains to Katya that he's banned from footie for five years, since he stripped at one, once.
Rachel turns up in her new bikini, which Scott tries not to react to. The girls think it looks nice, Zeke hates it, and Scotty just runs off, supposedly to get a drink. He runs through the house and out the front door.
Number 22 where it's Anzac Day
CamRob makes his father some tea. Paul wonders if his expectations of people are too high - he's been let down by Dylan and Isabelle, who don't respect him or themselves enough to do the right thing. He can't keep policing them - it's too exhausting. CamRob wonders if he's one more person to look after, but Paul says that his son is good for him - he likes the way he is with people.
Scary thought.
He's the only person Paul knows he can trust. CamRob's phone bidalings, and he's been invited to an Anzac Day Barbie. I love Anzac Biscuits. An NZ colleague of mine used to bake them. Yum!
Number 26 where we find Stingray's Insecurity
I wish they'd stop these freaky new shots of the houses where the angles are different - it takes me a while to work out where we are.
Susan has located Stingray and asks what happened - apparently he got bored! You know, hanging out with kids all day. Susan doesn't get it, so Stingray explains that Rachel's fourteen, and isn't is strange that he hangs out with a fourteen year old? Susan doesn't think so, and Rachel's not your average fourteen year old, either.
She asks him if it's any stranger than hanging out with a forty-something year old woman (who's fifty, this year, by the way. Don't forget that, Producers. I want a nice celebration, please. Something like her 40th in 1996 would be lovely. Thanks.)
Scotty thinks he's a freak - why can't he just like people his own age like most normal people? Oh, poor Scott. I can so sympathise with him on this one. Makes me want to hug him. They talk about uni and how Boyd has changed now he's there, and Stingray thinks he's finding out lots about himself at film school and doesn't like what he sees.
Susan tells Scotty that he's a big kid - it's part of his charm and 'why we all love you.'
SCOTT: We?
SUSAN: Yeah, all of us. Me, Rachel. Especially Rachel.
Backyard of Number 24 where it's all Very Nice
Rachel is in a large water ring and Zeke tips her out. CamRob approaches Katya who doesn't want to swim, so he threatens to throw her in. She begs him not to and concedes to go in the pool later.
Susan approaches this time, and Rach asks where Scott is. Susan says he went home, he was out of sorts; Rach is disappointed - she wanted to know how his talk went.
Zeke hurts himself on the way out of the pool and CamRob takes him to find a plaster. I'd call it a Band Aid, too, but it sounds like a charity concert, so I won't. Susan asks Katya if she likes him. She does, but she's not sure she's ready. Susie encourages her to take a risk. If it doesn't work out, then so be it, but she won't lose anything by it.
CamRob and the kids return, and he grabs Katya, opens the gate and they fall into the pool to the delight of Rach and Zeke.
The General Store where Steph and Lyn have Made Up
Steph and Lyn good-naturedly talk about the advice about getting babies to sleep, and Lyn offers some of her own......before apologising for it! Charlie is whimpering in his buggie. Lyn tells her that there's no advice on the Baby Belt! It's such a good idea, and Paul's willing to put up the money for it, so why not?
Steph doesn't want Paul making money off her idea, but Lyn reminds her that she'd make money, too, plus Paul thought it would be good for her and Steph to work on something together!
Charlie goes to sleep, and Lyn says "See?" before apologising profusely again!
Really lovely scene, that one.
Number 22 where there's More Crying
Paul is working at the table when Isabelle comes into the kitchen. He apologises for losing his patience with her, but he doesn't understand her carelessness. What if that had been their child? She says there's no point going there, as it's never going to happen, but Paul tells her she doesn't know that.
But she does.
ISABELLE: I can't have children, Paul. Ever. Except the time I was pregnant with Gus's child.
Paul can't believe that she hadn't told him; if she'd have told him it might have made a difference to them. She cries and Paul takes her in his arms. She tells him that she can't even look after her own nephew, now, and CamRob is in the doorway, listening.
The Scarlet Bar where...Katya - NO!
CamRob asks Katya if she could ever forgive someone who hurt a child. Katya thinks so - everyone makes mistakes. CamRob thinks that Paul is blind when it comes to Isabelle, but Katya suggests that they're just in love.
CamRob leans in and kisses Katya who doesn't really respond. He apologises immediately, but she takes his face in her hands and kisses him back.
A Dark Room in a Dark Place in a Dark World
CamRob is talking to RobCam, still comatose, and not going by the name of Rosalita.
CamRob says that this is what RobCam must have experienced his whole life...people caring for him, listening to him, asking him out. He tells RobCam he kissed Katya again, and she liked it. He's getting too distracted and needs to focus - he used to be so good at it.
But he really likes her, Katya. It's a shame, then, that she has to go...
