Recap
- Jack telling Lyn about meeting Mac.
- Darren surprising Libby.
- Susan confessing her true feelings towards Tom.
The Church
After the shock revelation, Tom remains silent. He thanks Susan for being honest, pleased she's made a decision that is 'right for her'. In tears, she leaves with Tom staring after her, looking anguished.
Susan's
Libby, another person in shock, listens as Darren fills her in on how he got his electrical certificate. He has spent the past 2 weeks settling into the new business he purchased from McCauley and that is why he's not dropped in on his old mates. She playfully punches him, after he thought she liked surprises! When he mentions she should tell Karl about the work he's done, Libby vaguely answers him. He accepts her invitation to coffee and Libby is left with a pleased, but apprehensive look on her face.
Bishops
Scott, Serena, Boyd and Sky (otherwise known as the 'teen gang') have just finished mucking around in the pool. Scott has invented a new swimming technique which is something like a mad kick/crawl. Sky is less than impressed and focuses her attention towards the council, arts application form, explaining to Serena and Boyd that she's got some wacky ideas for it. Like making a fireplace out of paper and setting it alight, or making a model of the Titanic out of ice and floating it down the river. Scott calls her a 'cake taker' causing Sky to look slightly uncomfortable.
Susan's
Libby explains to what the Kennedy's have been up to and when Darren enquires about Karl, she just tells him that he's fine. He gives her condolences about Drew, saying he heard he was a really nice guy. Hearing Ben's cries, she leaves to get him.
Scullys
Yet again after a night from clubbing, Lyn warns Jack she's going to have to tell Joe what's going on, but Jack brushes it off reckoning he's got it all under control. She notes the lipstick marks on one of his shirts, though he reckons that the big crowds at the club caused a girl to get some lippy there. And besides, Mac wasn't even there last night. Lyn is still sceptical on Jack's promise, so bets $200 that he won't be able to just be friends with her. He agrees but wonders how she's even going to know he if 'caves in'!
LYN: Mothers always know, don't they Oscar? Don't they? I only have to look in your eyes love and I can tell. Don't always let on of course.
Jack looks really put off.
Susan's
Darren notes what a great mother Libby is after she introduces Ben to him. He hasn't 'gotten around' to getting married, though he might one day after Libby enquires. There's a bit of silence before Darren remembers about another appointment he has at Eden Hills.
Coffee Shop
Sky shows the gang some sketches on ideas that she wants to use for a series of art installations. Scott laughs, saying that the red boxes look stupid and is something like a four year old, again making Sky look slightly worried. Even though that is exactly what Sky wants to prove - that the grants are just a waste of time. Serena follows Scott to the fridge and encourages him to apply for it, thinking that Sky is wrong about the whole grant scheme. She really believes that his collages are real works of art but Scott is skivvy about the idea and doesn't want even want to be an artist as they end up 'cutting off their ears anyway'.
The Pub
'Darren Stark' is the name on everyone's lips because is he greeted enthusiastically by Lou, Susan and Harold. He tells them about buying out 'McCauley's Sparks and Wires' and asks if they can spread word of his new business. Lou invites him over for a BBQ later on.
The Church
Tom silently fingers a stack of wedding programs, glancing up at the cross.
Jack then arrives to do some repair work on one of the pews and noticing the programs remarks about another 'poor sucker tying the noose'.
TOM: Your parents are the best advertisements for marriage I know.
Settling down, Jack starts ranting about the impossibilities of guys and girls being just friends.
TOM: If you can wait for your friendship to grow into love, then you'll find the physical part of the relationship that much more exciting, more fulfilling. (Jack gives him a strange look) Or so I'm lead to believe anyway.
The Pub
Susan fills Lil in about Darren's history - he was Cheryl's son, Lou's late wife and a former flame of Libby. David looks relieved when his mobile goes off, after the two start to gossip about whether there are still some sparks in the relationship. Lil nudges Susan, pointing out David's odd behaviour when he leaves to take the call but Susan is still adamant that he's 'not that sort of man'.
Coming back, he says that Karl had to perform some emergency operation so he had to cancel on The Who concert on that night. He's reluctant about going, as he doesn't want to be on his own and then thinks of taking to Serena to the concert. She does like pop concerts after all! The women start laughing at him, saying it'd be like for her going to Jurassic Park or something, however David is convinced it will give them a chance to do some quality bonding.
The Church
Seeking out Tom, Harold spills out the dilemma about his wavering faith to attending Church and being such a devout Christian as he was before his stroke. Jack still doing the repair work overhears Tom's advice.
TOM: Well, the standard advice is to remember the power of prayer. And just remember that once you've committed yourself to God, as you clearly have, then he is with you always.
Clearly there is a double meaning to this but it hits home with Harold as he leaves much happier. Jack gives Tom another odd look which maybe dawns to him that something more is going on.
BBQ - Outside Lou's
Darren is introduced to Lyn and Jack, with Lou explaining that they bought Number 26 from Phil Martin many years ago. Jack and Darren swap business cards as they realise what the other does.
Further down, Serena whispers to Boyd and Sky that she thinks Darren is cute. She need not worry about any jealous boyfriends because Scott is mucking about in Lou's bushes. He emerges, crawling out with a huge branch behind him. David arrives and invites Serena to The Who concert, but as soon as she hears the band she quickly backs out faking a test she has.
DAVID: Just you and me, it'll be a gask!
SERENA: Ah, is that a good thing?
Scott volunteers to go with 'Dave' instead (he's not in Serena's class so he has no test!), enthused that it will give them a chance to bond. He runs up to Lou, presenting him the branch, telling him that his branches are falling off the tree.
Susan's
Susan chats to Libby about Darren's arrival, wondering how she felt to have him back there. Libby is vague about it, happy that he's arrived though it's very weird. She declines to go to the BBQ but as soon as Susan leaves, quickly races to the windows and has a peek outside.
BBQ - Outside Lou's
Susan apologises to Darren about Libby's absence, as she had to finish her article for the paper. However, as soon as the words leave her mouth, Libby pops up with Ben. Darren leaves to get some wine for Libby, taking Ben with him. Libby has a somewhat love struck, happy face as she notices how Darren is with him.
Bishops (Evening)
Scott's arrived for the concert, completely decked out in a 70s wardrobe. Platinum blonde mullet wig (from Sindi), metallic blue jacket (from Susan) and a pair of white hotpants, with the fly held up with safety pins (Karl's). He is completely hyped up, bouncing around on the couch as he tells Lil about an old concert story about getting up on the stage. As soon as David and Scott leave, Sky gets up to send off her council application and Serena joins her, showing an application form that she has filled out for Scott. She asks to keep it a secret because she didn't tell him and once again Sky looks concerned.
Urinal
Scott and David are on their third trip to the toilets because David doesn't want to miss a moment of the action. There's no way of drying their hands, so David is grimaces when Scott touches him with his wet hands.
Susan's
Opening the door, Libby is surprised to see Darren who has come to give back some of Ben's toys. He can't stay as it's too late and once he's gone she sighs to herself.
Bishops
Dave and Scott arrived home, though much earlier than Serena anticipated. David tries to get Scott to leave, however sits back down when Scott makes him explain. They got kicked out of the concert after only 3 songs and David's crushed about his life long dream ending.
DAVID: I got excited and got up on stage, didn't I? Well my favourite song was playing, I felt like I was 15 again. And I would have got away with it too, only he got up and joined me and started doing that mashing or whatever...
SCOTT: Oh moshing? (jumps up on the seat and starts to wiggle his butt at them...there's a huge gaping split on the back of his hot pants)
DAVID: And that's why we got kicked out!
The Church
Tom is praying to the cross.
TOM: I've spent the whole day giving advice to people about marriage, love, relationships. Laying down the law on what's right and proper between men and women. What would I know Lord, about any of it?
Nightclub
After the concert, Susan spills to Lil her real feelings towards Tom, about how she hasn't felt this way about someone other than Karl. Lil is very sympathetic, even though she's quite shocked that it's a priest. She agrees with Susan about completely cutting off any contact with Tom.
The Church
TOM: I know everyone has doubts, but this is different. Susan Kennedy is like no one I've ever met before.
