Recap
- Harold addressing the rowdy students at Lou's pub about the death of Dee
- He proposes a moving toast 'for those taken too soon'
As Harold comes off the stage, Lou approaches him and says that Dee would have been proud of the speech he made tonight; though he was quite worried when the students started to become restless at the fact it wasn't going to be an "Afro Harold" performance. Harold gave a small chuckle, and admitted he was worried himself when they started to throw things. Valda approaches them and shows Lou a business card from another pub, offering her a job. While Valda is telling Harold how much they are willing to pay for a four-month contract, Lou notices that the pub is located in Broome.
Nina and Jack are kissing when Nina suddenly pulls back. She asks if Lyn and Joe are coming home soon, and when Jack tell her that they should be, he asks if she wants to go to his room. Nina says that her parents are expecting her home soon, so that's not a good idea. Jack asks her if there is anything upsetting her, because every time they become close Nina runs away. Nina looks awkward, and tells him that her parents are going away this week, and they want her to spend some time with them, before they go. Lyn and Joe then come home, and Joe asks why the bins aren't out. They see Nina there, and they say hello to her. Nina says that she has to get going, and Joe asks Jack to walk her home. When Jack and Nina leave, they sit down and talk about Toadie. Joe hopes that Toadie can face the memorial, and Lyn sobs; saying that it was so wrong to take someone as loving as Dee.
Summer and Boyd are arguing over what movie they want to watch. Summer insists on watching Hugh Grant, but Boyd wants to watch Tomb Raider. Max says that Summer can watch Hugh Grant... until he finds out Boyd wants to watch Tomb Raider, and insists that a female role model would be good for Summer. She looks upset, but then decides that Steph will have the winning vote- and when Steph chooses Tomb Raider, Summer looks annoyed.
Lyn and Joe are debating over a movie, so Lyn just gives in and asks for some chocolate. Joe tells her to go get it, and she replies 'sure, so that means you can have the baby.' Joe mutters under his breath as he goes to get some chocolate, when Jack comes in asking a favour of Lyn. He tells Lyn that Nina's parents are going away, and wants to know if she can stay a few nights at the Scullys so she doesn't get lonely. Lyn is about to say something, when Joe comes in with the chocolate. Lyn notices the wrapper and look scandalized, as she says, "Fruit and Nut?" Joe looks embarrassed and says it was the only one they've got.
Steph and Max are kissing on the couch, when Summer comes running in and asks what are they going to do today? Max gives Summer a look, and tells her to go and make some breakfast. She continues to ask until Boyd pulls her out of the room, telling her she's a nuisance. Summer looks angry.
Joe is asking Lyn and Valda where the apricot jam is, but they're not listening because they are chatting about past memories. When they finally look up at Joe, Valda apologizes for eating the last of it. Joe rolls his eyes and asks where the strawberry jam is. Lyn holds up the empty container and tells Joe that he can have honey. Joe looks pained at the very thought, and asks where are the jam samples they took from Lassiders are. He turns around to look at them and sees Lou standing in the doorway. Joe flushes, while Lou asks Valda if she'll be working today. Valda gives Lou a 'look' and says of course she'll be working today. Lyn looks at her confused, so Valda stands up and heads to the pub with Lou in tow. Jack enters the kitchen, and Lyn decides to get straight to the point and tells him that having Nina over is not a good idea. Jack begins to protest, but Lyn says that it is not a good time. Jack looks frustrated.
Jack looks at Lyn and rolls his eyes. He tells Lyn that the only reason he is saying no is because it is not Lori. Lyn looks shocked and says that is not the reason at all, and that she thinks Nina's nice; but she is just to young to stay the night. Jack tries to bring Joe into the conversation, be he is determine and to stare at the cupboard waiting for more jam to appear. Lyn says that in the long run it would be better for everyone, but Jack interrupts her saying that he doesn't want to hurt Nina, or push her into anything she doesn't want to do. Joe then steps into the conversation, implying that Jack lives in their house, so whatever they say goes. Jack looks angry and storms out, saying that they didn't even listen. Lyn calls after him that they did.... But they still said no.
Later on Lyn is down at the pub, and Valda shows her the job she was offered. Lyn looks impressed and says that it is a lifetime opportunity. Valda smiles, and says that the timing is too wrong, with Lyn going to have the baby and the pub being short staffed. She holds Lyn's hand and says that home is where the heart is; and her home at the moment is Erinsborough. Valda heads to the kitchen, and Lyn steps into Lou's office. She tells Lou that this is a great opportunity for Valda, and asks him if he can put in a good word, and encourage her to take the job.
Summer asks Steph if she wants to cook gingerbread today, because she has got all the ingredients... except the ginger. Boyd tells Summer that they have plans to go to the footy today. Summer whines that she wants to bake with Steph, but Steph says as soon as she explains the rules of the game to Summer, she'll enjoy it. Summer sighs and agrees.
Lyn and Nina are sitting at the table waiting for Jack, so Lyn decides to talk to Nina about why she cannot stay at the Scullys for a few days. Nina looks relieved, and says that she understands where Lyn is coming from and agrees with her. Lyn looks a little bit taken aback, but after the conversation has finished, it leaves tension in the air. Jack comes into the kitchen and feels the awkwardness between the two and asks what is wrong. Lyn remembers that she put some washing on the line and goes to see how it's going. Nina immediately asks why he asked if she could stay. Jack smiles and says that he wanted to stay, so she didn't feel so lonely. He says that he's working on them, but they can at least be alone at Nina's house. Nina looks worried, and tells him that her parents aren't going away anymore, so there's no need to worry. Jack looks slightly disappointed, but says that there will be plenty off opportunities. Nina forces a smile.
While Valda is serving customers, Lou pulls her up and says that it is a good idea to take the job offer in Broome. Valda says that she doesn't want to leave Lou short staffed and Lyn either; especially when things are getting back on track. Lou asks is that all she is staying for, and she says she doesn't want to leave Lyn. He once again asks her is that all. She quickly replies yes, and heads for the kitchen.
Nina and Jack are discussing her singing career. Jack tells her how talented she is and tries to kiss her. Nina leans back and says that she needs to get a drink. Jack then asks her to the movies... and then perhaps back to her place, but Nina says she can't. She tells Jack that she wants to work on her song writing tonight and that she will see him tomorrow. She dashes out of the coffee shop, and Jack looks put out.
Lyn is still trying to persuade Valda to take that job in Broome, when finally Lyn figures out why she is so hesitant in leaving. She gives Valda a hug and says no matter how far Valda wants to travel, that she will always be thinking of her, and will always love her. As a matter of fact the farther away you are from someone, the closer the bond will be. Lyn jokes with her, and says that she better earn more pay, because she will be using it in phone calls.
Harold and Lou are at the bar counter, talking about Toadie. They are worried about him because he goes down to the beach every day and waits for Dee to turn up- determine she will come out alive. Valda interrupts them saying that they better congratulate them, because she's taken the job in Broome. She says that she better go and pack her things and shuts the door behind her, as Harold and Lou watch her go. Harold looks Lou and asks if he'll miss her. Lou smiles and says that he will, but the peace and quiet won't go astray.
The Scullys are wishing Valda goodbye, as the taxi waits for her in the street. She hugs Steph goodbye and tells her to keep a hold on Max, as he as good catch. It's then Jack's turn and he tells her if Cameron Diaz drops by the pub, you know who to call. Lou and Harold see her from a distance, and go to say goodbye. She hugs Lou and says that he has been a great friend to her, and she will never forget it. Lou gives her a kiss on the cheek, and tells her to have a good time. Harold smiles at her, and ends up hugging her too. At last she is standing face to face with Lyn. When they hug Valda whispers 'I love you dear daughter,' and Lyn bursts into tears. Valda lets go of her and wishes Joe good luck with the baby, and reminds Lyn to keep a diary on the baby, as she doesn't want to miss a thing. She hops into the taxi and calls out 'Only four months!' as the taxi drives down the street. They all wave the taxi goodbye.
