Taj offers to exchange the ring he bought for Nina, but she tells him it's beautiful, there's just something she needs to tell him. Jack rushes in and interrupts the pair, telling Nina he really needs to talk to her about the play, what they were just talking about at the coffee shop. He tells her the lines they didn't want to say have now been changed back, so there's no need to say them anymore, "everything is back to how it was." He apologises and leaves. Taj asks Nina again what she wanted to say to him, and she tells him that he doesn't have to buy her expensive jewellery. Taj complains that he wanted to, and Nina says just so long as he knows that (about not having to buy her jewellery). Taj presses on about what Nina really wanted to say, so she tells him she really loves him heaps.
Jack arrives back at the Coffee Shop with flowers, where a very bored Lori is waiting for him. He avoids the issue of where he was, and Lori forgives him 'only for the flowers'. She asks him what he wanted to say, and spying a Charity Ball poster, Jack asks her if she wants to go. He uses the tickets being nearly sold out as an excuse for where he just was. Lori tells him the tickets are $100 each, to Jack's surprise, but he covers and says he just wanted to take her somewhere nice. Lori tells him he's a hard guy not to like.
Karl receives information from Toadie about his upcoming court date, and he beats himself up for getting caught the one day he was drinking. Toadie tells him they're going to argue his impeccable record and hope the magistrate will drop the license cancellation. After all, Karl is a GP and depends on his license. Karl tells Toadie he thinks it's a risk, doesn't he, but Toadie says they'll do what Karl wants. They just hope they get the right magistrate on the right day and the most he'll get is a fine. Karl agrees he'll be okay, he's never done anything wrong in his life.
Darcy walks into the clinic with his suit for the Charity Ball, and Dee remarks how it's easy for him, women aren't allowed to wear the same dress twice. Toadie tells her that's okay, his suit is from around 1985. Dee doesn't want to go, but Darcy protests. Toadie agrees, saying Cinderella will go to the ball. Dee asks if Prince Charming is going to wear something from this century, Toadie asks maybe something from 1995? Karl laughs saying that would be even worse. Toadie tells them not to worry, they'll come up with something. Dee suddenly gets an idea and they run off.
Nina marvels at her ring from Taj. He still presses her about what she wanted to say earlier, telling her he doesn't believe her when she says she did tell him. He remarks that Jack wasn't talking about the play, and Nina agrees. She tells Taj that she and Jack do have a secret, and Taj gathers that's what Jack was talking about before. Nina says it's silly, but Taj still presses. Nina covers, saying they were planing a surprise double date to make up for the last one. Taj believes her and gives her a hug.
Back at the medical centre Darcy turns Karl down for dinner, saying it's not every night he gets off free. Jack shows up and asks him for Charity Ball tickets, seeing as the booking office is sold out. Jack pleads his case and Darcy laughs about female troubles, but says he'll see what he can do. He tells Jack the conditions about the Ball, to which Jack agrees and then leaves. Darcy then calls Darren again to confirm he's coming to the Ball.
Toadie is unsure of the outfit Dee has chosen for him, but when he comes out Dee marvels at him. Toadie is worried people will think he stole his shoes from Mickey Mouse. The pair argue over the suit, and Toadie changes to the subject to what Dee is going to wear. She avoids him and goes to cut the tag off the suit, but he's still not sure. Dee tells him he is going to wear it.
Lori shows off her dress to Jack and comments on his suit, and he remarks they're going to be a bit of a Brad and Jennifer. Lori says it's a pity Jack's parents can't come, but he says they probably won't be going anywhere till Michelle and Connor come back. Jack runs off to answer the door and finds Taj there. Taj apologises for before, and says Nina finally told him everything. Jack gets scared while Taj remarks on how good Lori looks. Lori tells him they're going to the Charity Ball, and Taj mistakes that for what Nina said about the double date, as does Lori. Jack says he was going to tell her soon. Taj asks aren't the tickets really expensive, to which Jack agrees, sadly.
Jack waits for Nina at school, then asks her for money when she arrives. Nina asks him what he's on about, and he says now she knows how he feels. Nina says she was going to tell him about the double date thing, but Jack says it's too late. Lori talked about the Ball and now Taj thinks they're all going. Nina gets upset at the cost and asks Jack why he couldn't have just said they were going to the movies or something, but he says he didn't have time to think. Nina gets upset that now they have to go to the Ball together, and Jack isn't happy either. Taj and Lori wander in, happy about the double date. They ask who thought of it, to which Jack and Nina reply the other did, then they both did. Lori doesn't care, it should be a heap of fun.
Lou asks Toadie if Harold (Jellybelly) is around, saying they might go to the Charity Ball together. Toadie laughs at the idea of them on a date. Karl shows up and he and Toadie banter over food and exercise. Lou says he'll be seeing Karl at the top of the AFL draft, and Toadie tells them how he thought he was in great shape too until Dee went shopping for him. Karl tells him Dee has good taste, and Toadie agrees, then mention he could be taking his same sex platonic life partner as a date after all. Lou tells him it's for charity, Harold would get a kick out of it. Toadie tells him tickets are sold out, but Karl mentions Darcy might have some. Lou leaves to find Darcy, and Karl remarks it should be a night, Lou on a date with Harold and Karl with Darcy. Toadie says it'll be a veritable Mardi Gras. Either way, it should be a night to remember.
Darcy shows a patient off, and Jack shows up asking for more tickets, at the same time as Lou. Darcy tells them one will be in luck. Lou tries to use his age and even offers to buy Jack out, but Darcy uses a coin toss. Jack picks heads and wins. Lou tells him to enjoy himself, Harold probably would have trampled him in the waltz anyway. Darcy shows Jack the coin and it's tails. He thanks him a lot, but Darcy says not to worry, he thinks they have a lot in common.
Dee shows Toadie her outfit and he is very impressed, now no one will look at him because Dee looks so great. He remarks how he never dreamed of meeting someone like Dee, but she reminds him she's only human. Toadie asks then if he should ring Lassiters and get them to take the pedestal out of the room he booked for them, and Dee gets excited. She answers the door and Karl comes in, remarking on her lovely outfit. Dee says it's a pity Susan couldn't come, and he tells her she feels the same, she's stuck in a motel watching soap reruns. He suspects she's always been a closet soapy fan. Karl sees Toadie and makes an 'ah' sound. Toadie gets self conscious, and Karl says the suit is unique, but won't let him change it.
Nina arrives at the Scully's and Jack fawns over her. Lori comes out asking how she looks, and Jack tells her she should wear red every day. Taj shows up and remarks how he and Jack are lucky guys, then gives Nina a present. Lori says she doesn't know what they did to deserve it, but she and Taj are the luckiest pair on earth. Taj agrees.
Darcy arrives at the Ball, and checks the places at his table. He changes them to fit his liking, so Toadie, Dee and Darren are all next to each other. The gang show up and marvel at all the outfits and people. Taj says he heard Patrick Rafter would be there and points him out, but it's only Darcy. Karl, Dee and Toadie show up and Toadie feels self conscious again. The gang talk to Darcy, and Lori and Nina offer to dance with him, seeing as he has no partner. Darcy doesn't think the boys would be so happy, but Jack says whatever. Lori is touched by his 'concern', and Taj (jokingly) says if Nina even talks to another guy he gets jealous.
The gang leave and Karl and co show up. Darcy flirts a bit with Dee and then tells Toadie he's very brave (referring to the outfit). Karl shows Darcy a name tag (Samantha Hamilton) and asks if it's another of his conquests. Darcy tells Karl he's not moving in that direction tonight. Karl asks who is sitting next to her, there's no name tag. Darcy says that would be her date, to which Karl replies "For now..."
Jack and Lori, Taj and Nina dance together, while Jack and Nina share looks. Karl and Darcy sit at a table looking rather bored. Karl says if it makes him feel better he'll ask Darcy to dance. Darcy says he's dancing on the inside, and spies presumably Darren and his date at the door. He leaves to greet them. Lori cuts in on Taj and Nina, leaving Jack and Nina to dance. Nina doesn't want to, but Jack just smiles and takes her in his arms. Meanwhile Toadie is choking on the feathers in Dee's hair, so the pair go to sit down. Karl interrupts them, then Darcy brings Darren over and introduces him to everyone. Dee remarks "Darren?" Darcy asks if they know each other, and Dee storms off. Darcy takes Darren and his date to their table. Outside Dee sits down, visibly shaken.
The gang, now at a table, ask Nina if she's doing okay. Nina says she's just overwhelmed by it all. Taj takes her outside for some fresh air, and Lori thinks that would be a good idea for her and Jack as well, asking him where his romance is.
Toadie and Darren strike up conversation. Darren says he's currently living in Queensland, the phone company flew him down for some prize package. He says the city has changed a fair bit, they had a look around earlier. Dee comes back and sits down, still very upset, but fakes niceties. Darren asks Dee what she's up to now and they talk a little. Darcy asks him to enlighten them on how they know each other. He says their old friends, and Dee nods, saying they dated a while in their teens. Darcy remarks "a grand romance." Darren says you could say that, and Darcy asks to tell them more. Dee says it's nothing, but Darren tells them all hardly, they were once married. Toadie's face drops, while Dee looks guilty and Darcy looks very pleased with himself.
