Recap
Tad can't believe he's being sent home - but he has a plan B
Lyn finds lingerie - she and Joe think Joel bought it for Flick
Number 30
Flick decides she'd better get going. Before she does Joel presents her with a present - a CD of Romantic tunes which they can practice their dancing to. Flick tells him that the music organised for the Deb is terrible and the guys in the band are like hundreds of years old. Tad has offered to DJ though. Joel is worried about Joe being annoyed at her being late and she is persuaded to go.
Number 26
Joe is a little annoyed and continually paces the carpet, remonstrating about Joel's two-facedness. Lyn practices caution but Mick thinks Joe should go and sort him out. Mick decides to go out when Lyn asks him to keep out of it. Joe goes over to see Joel.
Lou's Place
Mick talks to Lou, mentioning his lack of cash. Lou offers him a job of unloading the beer the next day. Mick takes his offer up but won't take cash - he's just helping out a mate.
Number 30
And now for a lesson in Frasier-style farce resulting from miscommunication. Joe tells Joel he wants to talk about the present he gave Flick. Joel says it's just a bit of fun, but Joe thinks that giving such a present to a girl of Flick's age is inappropriate. Joel is confused - it's a little tacky but...Joe is annoyed - he gave him his word and he's disappointed in him. Now he can't take Flick to the Deb ball. Joel says he won't, if that's what Joe wants. Joe leaves and Joel is a little more than confused.
Number 24
Flick and Paul talk about Tad's predicament with Tad overhearing Paul saying that he doesn't have many options. Tad tells them that he has it all under control. He might even chuck school and get a job in the music industry. He's going to Toadies' to crash for a while.
Number 26
Joe tells Lyn about his visit to number 30 and Lyn doesn't think it sounds like Joel. Flick comes in and Joe tells her that she can forget the Deb - they know about the present. Flick is confused and presents the CD to them. It was Michelle who bought her the lingerie for the ball and Joel had nothing to do with it.
Number 30
Toadie wants to know what Tad's done to want to stay with him. Tad says it isn't anything. Toadie won't let him stay until he knows the truth. Tad tells him to stick it and leaves. Joel comes in, going on about the Joe thing. Toadie thinks that at least he doesn't have to go to the Deb. Joel was looking forward to it, thought, the amount of effort he put into it. Toadie thinks he might be protesting too much.
Number 26
Flick thinks that Joe has ruined absolutely everything now. Joe tells her that he'll fix it up, but that doesn't stop the embarrassment he's caused her. Joe didn't want another Sean fiasco, but Flick protests that Joel is nothing like Sean! She is going to go and sort it herself- this way Joe won't muck things up again. But Joe says he'll do it first thing tomorrow. The girls go to bed. Lyn blames Mick for his input and Joe would rather she laid off him. She asks where he is - shouldn't he be home by now???
Lou's Place
Lou is locking up and gives Mick a beer on the house. Mick muses how everything can go so wrong - life is good then it isn't. Lou says that even without money there's still the dole. Mick can't do it, on principle. Lou says he's no bludger - he's worked hard and now it's his turn. Mick looks thoughtful.
Number 26
Mick comes to brekkie and announces his little job with Lou. Joe is going to talk to Joel. Michelle apologises to Flick for what she did, Lyn says it was a nice thing and it was all a misunderstanding. Flick thinks it was more like Lynoe jumping to conclusions. Lyn stutters about how it's different when a boy buys you lingerie instead of yourself - wrong signals etc etc. Flick thanks her sister for the present.
Number 30
Joe apologises, and admits that he thought he had given Flick a teddy, not a CD. He should've checked. Joel accepts the apology but warns him to get his facts straight next time "I thought you were going to kill me." "Oh I was...but I didn't." Joe hopes that he'll still take Flick to the ball, otherwise he'll be the one being killed. Joel will.
Ramsay Street
Joe sees Lou and runs over, thanking him for giving the work to Mick. Lou wouldn't call it work, what with it being unpaid and all. This is news to Joe. Mick has weird ideas about charity. He also discovers about Mick's phoney job interview. Lou thinks he should have a good talk with Mick - it's his gut instinct. He needs a good listener. Joe thanks him, promising to do that.
Number 24
Toadie comes round - he knows the truth. Tad tells him that's why he has to stay at number 30. He tries to explain how important the gig was but Toadie reminds him (rather loudly) that he can't do both that and school. He has it easy here and he has to do right by Madge and Harold. If things don't work out though, Toadie reluctantly agrees to him staying at number 30 for a few weeks. But after that, Tad's going home and that looks like what Madge and Harold will be doing.
He leaves and Paul hangs up the phone, annoyed that Cheyenne can't stay on her own during the hols and has been packed off to her granny's in the country. He hasn't got a date for the Deb now!
Number 26
Joe tells Flick that the business with Joel is sorted and she thanks him. Lyn's just off the phone from Di - she's so worried about Mick and now so is Lyn. Although Di loves him he has to help himself. She tells Joe that there's something really odd going on - he hasn't been to see Di or the kids since he left and he was never frozen out.
Number 30
Tad and Joel are talking about Tad. Toad is worried - he can see himself in Tad. Joel agrees to Tad staying with them.
Number 26
Mick comes in and Joe tells him that they need to talk. He knows that there's something Mick isn't saying. Mick pleads ignorance, saying it's nothing that a job wouldn't fix. Joe doesn't think that's good enough - what's he going to do, just sit about, feeling sorry for himself? Mick won't stay where he isn't wanted - he'll be gone tonight.
Number 30
Toadie doesn't believe Joel wants to be just friends with Flick. Joel doesn't think Joe is all that bad. Flick appears, throwing her arms around Joel. Joel asks her to take a seat - there's something they need to talk about.
