Tad gets his bike to go off to see Rachel. Paul tries to make him see sense but he can't. Toadie comes over and asks what's happening - Tad tells him quickly and then rides off. Toadie discourages Paul from following. Tad gets to Rachel's house and looks in the window to see his half-brother and sister playing happily with their Dad. Quite how they don't notice the strange boy in the ugly t-shirt staring at them is a mystery to me. He knocks on the door and his half-brother answers - he suddenly changes his mind and pretends he's looking for someone else. He quickly heads off - Rachel comes to the door and sees him riding away.

Steph and Lance are chatting and Michelle comes in with a list from Lyn of goodies to buy for Stephanie's birthday party. Steph says it's not a party, just a family gathering - she doesn't want a party. Lance says they should all go to the shops and wants to know more about Steph's problem with birthdays.

Toadie asks Joel if he thinks Stephanie likes Lance. Joel says that she might be, he should ask her. Toadie says he doesn't want to know, he just doesn't think it will do Lance any good if she's not interested in him. Joel asks what's up with him, Toadfish says he's just worried about Tad. It's quite clear that he's totally in love with Steph himself though.

When they get back from the shops, Lance tells Stephanie that she has to have a party. Toadie knocks on the door and is clearly frustrated that Lance is there - he finds out that Stephanie doesn't want a party.

Tad comes home and Harold and Paul tell him how worried they were - Rachel has called for him and she's been worried too. Tad is frustrated when Harold and Paul try to help. Rachel then arrives at the door to talk to Tad - he's really angry with her. She tells him that he's got to see things from her point of view - she only contacted the adoption agency to find out if he was being well looked after. She says she feels guilty and always will, but it would ruin her family if they found out the truth. Tad tells her that he's related to her kids and they don't even know it. He asks her if she's happy now and she says no. He tells her that he isn't either. He says she can't just run away from her responsibilities. She tells him that she's not running away, she's making a choice - she's made her decision and he'll have to respect it.

Lance goes to see Lyn but she isn't in, so he talks to Michelle about Stephanie. He asks her advice on presents and she tells him that Steph is mad on glass-blown ornaments and has a big collection of them in her cupboard. Later, at the Coffee Shop, Michelle tells Toadfish the same thing when he asks about a present for her.

Toadfish goes to see Tad to find out how he is, Tad tells him everything is fine and that he's got to go to school. Once Toadie and Paul have gone, Tad calls Rachel and says he's got to see her. They meet by Lassiter's Lake.

Tad tells Rachel that he doesn't want to see her again and that he's only arranged the meeting to say goodbye. He asks whether she'd like to be able to click her fingers and wish he'd never been born - she doesn't respond - he says that if he could wish for another mother he would. He says that before he met her he thought she'd be great, but she's nothing like he'd hoped. He tells her that he used to think he didn't deserve her but now he knows that she doesn't deserve him. He adds that he wishes he never found her and tells her to go back to her life with her nice house, husband and the kids she cares about. She says she's sorry. He says he survived without her for this long and at least now he can put a face to the name.
