Hannah argues with Phil about getting plastic surgery for her ears while Paul looks at their computer in the background while waiting for her. She storms out of her argument with her Dad and asks Paul to go for a walk with her, he says he will as soon as she tells him how long she's been e-mailing Pascale.
Paul goes back to Number 24 in a bad mood. Harold tells Madge about his job at the school and how bad the traffic is, he tries to talk to Paul about it and says he'd prefer it if he used the crossing rather than taking his own route home. He says the behaviour of some of his schoolmates is pretty terrible and Paul should set a good example for the others.
Karl and Ruth get a new sign for the surgery that acknowledges both of them. Ruth is really pleased with it until she notices there is a mistake - it says 'Spots Injuries' instead of 'Sports Injuries.' They both laugh about it but she says it'll have to be redone.
Phil asks Hannah how she plans to pay for the plastic surgery, she tells him all he thinks about is money - he says it's a pretty important question, she says she doesn't need his support to get it done. She goes to see Paul who reluctantly lets her in. He says she should have told him that she was still in contact with Pascale, but Hannah says he's just a pen-friend and she's been e-mailing since she got back from France. Hannah walks out when Paul won't listen to her reasons. At school the next day, Paul avoids talking to Hannah so she takes the initiative and explains things to him again - he says he might have overreacted and he doesn't mind if she keeps e-mailing Pascale, as long as she tells him what they're talking about sometimes. She says that's fine and that at the moment they're discussing arrangements for him to come and stay for a while in the holidays! Paul's not as excited as she is. He tells Tad that he can't believe she said that and expected him to be happy about it, Tad doesn't really pay much attention and tries to get his work finished. The bell rings and Tad waits around to finish what he's doing, Paul says he can't believe it - he's being two-timed by his girlfriend and his best mate's become a teacher's pet! Hannah has been listening to their conversation. Paul argues with Hannah about it again after the lesson. In a bad mood, he leaves school that day and crosses the road in front of Harold without looking, infuriating him!
Tad asks Susan if he can come around that evening to do some extra work. She says she hasn't got very much spare time, but he manages to twist her arm and she says he can come around after dinner. Susan gets home from work and checks the post, she notices an airmail letter for Karl and realises that it must be from Sarah. Karl comes home and tries to talk to Susan, she doesn't respond very much. He asks her if there's anything in the mail, she says she hasn't looked yet. She goes to see Ruth and when she leaves, Karl looks at the post and notices the letter. Susan sees Ruth and Ruth asks her if she wants to tell her what's wrong. She says it's her and Karl, things have been really good between them and nothing specific has happened, but she thought with Sarah getting married and leaving there would be no more problems, but she thinks it's all starting up again. She says she noticed a look between Sarah and Karl at the wedding, it was so strong that it was like she wasn't there. Later back at Number 28, Tad arrives in the middle of Susan and Karl's dinner for his lesson, but Susan turns him away and asks him to see her tomorrow. Tad reluctantly leaves and Karl asks her if everything's okay. She says she's fine and wishes he'd stop asking, she asks him if there was anything interesting in the mail but he says there was nothing.
Phil sees Paul at the Coffee Shop and asks him about Hannah, Paul says she's being an idiot. Phil says he's glad he sees it like that and asks Paul if he knows where she got the idea for surgery in the first place, Paul says it was when they went to see Karl's friend and picked up a leaflet about it. Phil asks how they can deal with it, but Paul says she's not interested in what he says and maybe he could get that guy from Paris to talk to her because she'd listen to him - or he could wait until he gets here. Phil didn't know anything about Hannah and Pascale's plans! Back at Number 26, Ruth tells Hannah she really can't see what's wrong with her ears - she's very attractive. She tells Hannah that she used to be paranoid about her neck and her mouth when she was younger but Hannah says they look fine, Ruth says she thinks the same about her ears. She seems to be cheering her up when Phil bursts in and asks Hannah what this is about Pascale coming to stay.
Harold tells Madge about the incident at the crossing with Paul and she tries to calm him down. Madge says she's sure he didn't do it deliberately so Harold tries to get Tad's support when he comes home, he says it was a bit confusing though.
Paul comes in and Harold shouts at him that he does not like his position being undermined by the type of behaviour that he showed that afternoon. Paul shouts back at him that the whole thing is crazy. Madge tries to calm them both down but Harold continues and says he will not be defied. Paul tells him he's just a lollipop man, the kids laugh behind his back and to make things worse, they laugh at him too. He tells Harold he's one big embarrassment.
