Recap
Following Harold's injury, Karl becomes the umpire for the school football match.
Helen tells Phil she's been looking at retirement homes.
Kennedys
In the garage, Karl is studying the manual of 'Australian Rules Football - Rules and Regulations', as well as trying to toss the ball correctly. Inside, Billy tries once again to persuade Susan to persuade him out of it, but Toadie thinks he won't be able to last too long with rain and hail and mud up to his ankles, and will soon have too much work to do on Saturdays.
Ramsay Street
Karl retrieves his ball from Bonnie and tries once again to toss it, but ends up smashing the street light and quickly returns inside.
Kennedys
Susan tells Karl he'll have to ring the council as he comes in through the front door. Billy approaches his dad and tells him he doesn't want to take the position. Karl tells him he'll be too busy playing to know what his dad is doing, and doesn't seem bothered that Billy will be embarrassed. Karl tries some whistling trick and ends up falling backwards into the dining table before heading embarrassed to the bedroom.
TOADIE (to Susan, pointing at Karl): You are a beautiful, intelligent woman Mrs K. Why?
Martins
Looking at her books, Debbie realises that she needs to pull in more punters to the Coffee Shop. Hannah wonders about a bill board, but Debbie wants to try to attract the football crowd; she just needs to work out how.
Ramsay Street
Toadie watches on from the house as Susan reluctantly helps Karl with his practice. After half an hour, she is not impressed and freezing cold, but he makes her catch one more ball.
Martins
Debbie has come up with a plan to hold a pizza eating competition at the Coffee Shop. She asks Hannah if she'd come and help distribute some flyers for her. Hannah can't understand how no one else is sad about Helen moving out, but Phil reminds her they can't make her mind up for her. Hannah is still keen to try and persuade her to stay.
Kennedys
As the boys are having breakfast, Karl appears in his whites. Toadie tells him he's too keen, but Karl is quick to hurry them out the door.
Ramsay Street
As the footballers head off, Phil comes out to find Hannah sitting on the curb. She is still upset over Helen leaving, and admits to her father that since her mother died, Helen has felt a bit like a mum to her. She doesn't want to see the family get broken up again. Phil understands, but tells her they have to support Helen with her decision and that she's not leaving because she doesn't love them anymore, but because it's what she needs to do for herself. Hannah agrees, and heads off to help Debbie at the Coffee Shop.
Coffee Shop
Debbie gives Hannah a handful of posters and sends her on her way to deliver them. Susan arrives on her way to the football and offers to take some with her. Debbie asks if Libby is in as she would like to put an advert in the paper.
Martins
Lance arrives looking for Hannah, but instead finds Phil shifting boxes. Phil enquires after Ruth and Lance admits she's a bit down. Just as Lance is about to leave, Phil drops a box and hurts his back. Lance offers to go and get his mum, but Phil asks him to go and get Karl instead.
Playing Field
The boys are warming up for the match, under the orders of their coach. Billy spots Karl warming up in a very peculiar way. One of the other lads comments to Billy about his 'dorky dad', but the coach yells at them to keep going.
Martins
Lance returns not having found Karl, he takes the dripping ice-cream tub from Phil and shoes Holly back outside. Lance suggests going to find his mum, but Phil isn't keen, claiming it's humiliating. Lance points out that staying bent over crippled is probably more humiliating and runs to get his mum.
Playing Field
With the game underway, as Susan stands on the side with the video camera, Karl's umpiring skills seem a little unorthodox.
Martins
Lance arrives back with Ruth, who tells Phil just to let her do her job, as she tries to get him onto the table.
Playing Field
As the game continues, Susan seems more keen on recording Karl than the football match.
Martins
Ruth talks to Phil about getting some anti-inflammatories as she continues the physio. Phil isn't impressed when she quickly jerks his back.
Coffee Shop
As Hannah helps Debbie prepare the pizza's they wonder how many people will turn up. Hannah wonders if they should invite Helen down too. Debbie reassures Hannah that she is going to miss their gran too, but they have to be supportive of her decision.
Martins
Ruth takes the call from Debbie, and agrees to bring Helen down to the pizza eating competition. Lance leaves, leaving Ruth and Phil alone. It seems Phil isn't a great patient, but Ruth reminds him he'll have to take it easy for the next few days. Ruth gets him to admit that he didn't want her to come over, but Phil claims it was embarrassing. He apologises for avoiding her the past few days and she tells him not to worry.
Playing Field
With their team in the lead by only a few points, Billy goes to catch the ball by the sideline, but Karl calls it out. Billy starts to argue with Karl, causing the penalty to be given to the other team. The opponents take the penalty and score, giving them the win. The coach tells Billy that it was his arguing with the umpire (Karl) that cost them the game.
