Ben Dalziel telling Danni that they have to separate their personal and professional lives.
Alan McKenna catching Hannah holding Toadie's cigarette.
No. 26
Philip and Hannah march into No. 26, Philip snapping:
PHILIP: What a proud moment *that* was. Year 8 and you're already smoking. I can't *wait* to see what you're doing by Year 10.
Hannah insists that it wasn't her cigarette. Philip asks if it was Lance's. Hannah explains that she had a lousy night with Lance and a 'friend' was trying to cheer her up. Philip warns her that she should think about why this 'friend' is letting her take the blame for something they did.
No. 28
Karl settles himself down on the couch when Toadie comes in, looking upset. Karl comments that he's supposed to be at the dance and he asks him why he came home early:
KARL: Did you burn down the hall, did you? Get caught flogging the takings from the cordial stand?!
TOADIE (glumly): You don't think much of me, do you, doc?
KARL: We don't have a lot in common, Jarrod - but you *are* my son's best friend, so I suppose I should defer to his better judgement.
TOADIE: Which means?
KARL: Which means that I'll accept there's the possibility that deep down - very well hidden - you have one redeeming quality.
Toadie then asks Karl if he's ever had someone reach into his chest, pull out his heart and then dance around the floor with it like he doesn't exist. Looking uncomfortable, Karl suggests talking to Billy about it. Toadie, however, tells Karl that if fells all right talking to him. He then explains that George is a mega- babe, and tonight... He adds that George doesn't think he exists. Karl suggests to him that he move on and try and find someone else. Toadie clearly isn't impressed at the idea!
Holy Roll
Libby is sipping from a cup of coffee when George comes in and comments to her snidely that Rupert's left her on her own, has he? Libby retorts that he's just gone to get some more money from the ATM. George smiles that she might just wait 'til he gets back. Libby asks where Toadie is. George shrugs that she guesses he went home. Libby comments that you can't just use and abuse people. George retorts that Toadie was the one who invited *her* to the dance; if he can't handle just being friends, that's *his* problem. Libby snaps:
LIBBY: So why is it *you* can't handle being friends with *Rupert*?
She warns George that she and Rupert know where they stand with each other; they're just waiting for George to catch up...
Chez Chez
Danni is working behind the bar when Mal comes in. He gives her a kiss and asks about her trip. Danni tells him that she's got a job as a designer - working for Ben Dalziel: her fiancé! She shows off her engagement ring. Mal asks in astonishment who Ben *is*. Danni explains that they met in Sydney and got on so well - and now he's going to be her husband as well as her business partner. Mal remarks that it's all a bit sudden; there's got to be something suss going on. Looking annoyed, Danni snaps that he's jealous because she's getting somewhere and leaving Erinsborough behind.
No. 28
Toadie is asleep on the couch, next to Karl, when Susan and Billy arrive home. Susan smiles that she's never seen Toadie look so sweet! Karl asks how the dance was and Susan replies that it was really good - although Hannah Martin was caught smoking. She adds that she claims she was only holding it for a friend, but wouldn't say who. The front door opens and Libby comes in. Karl comments that he was *wondering* where she'd got to. Billy tells him that she was snogging- on with Rupert!
No. 26
Hannah is making a snack in the kitchen when George arrives home. She comments:
GEORGE: I heard someone say you were doing a great Jim Carrey impersonation: you know - Smokin'!
Hannah snaps that she *wasn't* smoking - and why should she listen to anything George says anyway?: she took Toadfish to the dance and she *used* him - and that really sucks. George retorts that Hannah's too young to understand anything about it. Hannah snaps:
HANNAH: How old do you have to be to know wrong from right?
GEORGE: Oh, and so smoking's *right*, is it?
HANNAH (yells): I *wasn't* smoking.
Philip emerges from his room suddenly, wearing his pyjamas, and demands to know what's going on. George apologises, saying they were just mucking around. Philip comments:
PHILIP: I hope you'll be a bit more considerate when Deb gets home.
HANNAH (surprised): *Deb's* coming home?
Philip explains that she rang when Hannah was at the dance. Hannah beams that Deb will make things much better round there.
Holy Roll
The next morning, Cheryl walks into the coffee shop and orders a coffee from Mal. She then asks him if he's seen Danni since he got back. Mal nods that she told him about that Ben guy. Cheryl asks him if he thinks Danni is doing this just to get back at him. Mal, however, tells her that she's doing it for the money and image: those things have always meant a lot to Danni.
No. 28
Karl and Susan are packing for their trip away. Libby tells them that it's really good of them to trust her, Billy and Mal to stay there by themselves - especially with Toadie there. Billy adds that this will give them the chance to prove they can be responsible. There's a knock on the door and Karl opens it to Philip, who says he's there to see Susan about Hannah. Susan warns him that if Hannah won't say what happened, McKenna will assume it was her cigarette and she'll cop the punishment.
No. 26
Hannah is doing some washing- up when Toadie knocks on the back door and calls out:
TOADIE: Little pig, little pig, let me in or I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in.
As he heads inside, Hannah mutters at him:
HANNAH: The only huffing and puffing *you* could do Toadfish, come from a packet of cigarettes.
Toadie realises she's still mad at him and asks why she hasn't dobbed him in yet. He adds that he'll tell them it was him. He then says glumly:
TOADIE: I wonder what Port Keats is going to be like...
Feeling suddenly guilty, Hannah tells him that she'll take the blame for him. Toadie then asks her why she took the rap for him at the dance. Hannah tells him that she didn't like the way George was treating him
No. 22
Mal has turned up at No. 22 and Danni says she hopes he's come to apologise about what he said about her relationship with Ben being dodgy. Mal retorts that he's sorry he had to point it out to her. He adds that she's on the rebound and he doesn't want to see her doing anything stupid. Danni snaps that the two of *them* broke up. She goes on:
DANNI: Just for the record, Malcolm, you were never very good. Nothing like Ben. In fact, you're still a *boy* compared to him.
Mal asks her why she's *engaged* to Ben. Danni retorts that they love each other. Mal tells her that he's worried about her. Danni just snaps that he needn't be. As Mal goes to walk out, he adds pointedly:
MAL: By the way, I know I was good because you're not that good an actress.
No. 28
Karl and Susan are asking Toadie, Libby and Billy to promise they'll behave. Libby assures them that the house will be exactly as it is now when they get back. Mal comes in and asks his parents if they haven't gone yet, as they want to get the party started! Susan hugs the kids and she and Karl head out. Mal closes the front door and then yells:
MAL: YES! I feel the need to PARTY!
Chez Chez
Philip is sipping from a glass of orange juice as Cheryl comments to him that he's looking a bit tired and weary. Philip explains that Debbie's coming home and the house isn't running very smoothly: Hannah and George aren't getting on at all and now it seems that Hannah's becoming a smoker. Cheryl comments on how quickly kids grow up, adding:
CHERYL: With *my* four, they were crawling round on all fours one minute; the next they were in the Navy, in jail, in a sailboat or engaged to a complete stranger.
PHILIP (exclaims): Engaged?!
Cheryl explains sarcastically about Danni and Ben. Philip muses that he thought Hannah smoking was a nightmare!
No. 28
It's evening- time and Mal is talking on the 'phone, telling the person on the other end to pass the word around about the party! Toadie and Billy are looking at some of the 'sick pictures' in Karl's medical books! There's suddenly a knock on the front door and Mal opens it to George, who says she's looking for Toadie. Mal lets her in and she and Toadie step over to the kitchen area, where George tells Toadie that she wanted to apologise for how she acted; she shouldn't have ignored him like that and was hoping they could start again - as friends. Toadie says blankly:
TOADIE: I don't know. I mean, like, all my friends, they're worth being friends *with*.
GEORGE: And you don't think *I* am?
TOADIE: Not after the way you treated me, no.
GEORGE: Fine.
She goes to walk out. Toadie calls after her that she could always try to prove him wrong. George just murmurs:
GEORGE: Maybe.
She heads out. When she's gone, Libby comments to Toadie that she doesn't believe that she's actually impressed at how he handled that in a very mature manner!
No. 26
Philip is gluing together the pieces of a vase when Hannah comes in. He asks her where she's been and she explains that she's been out for the last hour at the coffee shop, thinking about George: she hates her and can't keep living with her; this is *her* house - George should be *nice* to her. Philip asks what exactly is going on. Hannah retorts that she wants things back the way they used to be; she hopes George's dad gets better soon, then they can get rid of her. Neither of them notices George come in and start listening as Philip tells Hannah that George's dad is in traction and will be in hospital for quite a while. Hannah cries:
HANNAH: I hope he *dies* then.
PHILIP (shocked): Hannah!
They suddenly notice George standing there, listening. She turns and walks off. Hannah murmurs:
HANNAH: I didn't *mean* that.
PHILIP (angrily): Sometimes you remind me *so* much of your mother: *she* used to say things without thinking them through, too.
No. 28
Mal is on the 'phone, organising a keg for the party. Toadie is talking about taping Dahl to the back of Cassie - who's in the lounge room! There's suddenly a knock on the front door and Libby goes and opens it - to find Grandpa Tom standing on the step! He beams:
TOM: Surprise!
LIBBY (astonished): Grandpa! What are *you* doing here?
TOM: I've come to stay. Two whole weeks with my favourite family!
Billy and Mal look at each other in horror!
