CHERYL: What does she want, Lou?
LOU: Well, you heard her. To make peace, apparently.
CHERYL: Do you believe her?
LOU: I don't know, I don't know. Maybe she *has* changed. It's been ten years...more. I know I've changed in that time.
CHERYL: She wants something else.
LOU: Listen, why don't we just give her the benefit of the doubt and forget all about her. Let's not ruin tomorrow.
They hug.

Africa
Now, I thought it had cut to an advert for Save the Children, but it turns out it's Brett and Susan being shown round an African classroom. In a voiceover, Brett is writing in his journal. After the classroom, they wander round the village saying it's a sad place, but the kids are great. They are eating maize porridge and then teach Brett and Susan some of their games. Brett feels quite humbled.
Afterwards, Susan and Brett are driven around the village looking at small shops and market stalls, and the barren landscape beyond.
BRETT (VO): I can't imagine what it must be like growing up here. Assuming you're lucky enough to grow up at all, that is. I suppose I knew there were place like this where people lived in this kind of poverty. I mean, of course I did, I'd read about them and I'd seen it on telly. But until you've actually been there...the point is, once you have, you can't pretend they don't exist.

Cheryl is still upset about Linda crashing her birthday breakfast. She is feeling quite threatened by Linda (she is very slim and has nice hair, unlike Cheryl). Karl tells him firmly that Luke is behaving out of character and a lot of people care about him. Karl practically man- handles him into a seat and tells him that he will accept Phil's offer of accommodation and stay there as long as it takes for him to get back on his feet. Luke starts to cry and suddenly tells Karl that he does need help - he's lost his way and can't seem to care about anyone.
