MARK: Will you?
LUCY: Why not.
MARK: Thanks, Lucy. This means a lot to me.
Drug group
Only six of the drop-out kids have turned up. Mark thanks them for coming back and introduces Lucy to them.
LUCY: Makes me sound like some sort of celebrity guest. Well, I'm not. He's not a priest. He's straight. Born that way.
She sits down and address the group.
LUCY: I don't know how you guys are doing, but at the moment I'm clean. I don't know how long I'll stay clean. But over the past few years it's been a couple of weeks max. This time, eight weeks so far.
KID: What were you on?
LUCY: Started with appetite surpressants, would you believe. And booze. Speed. Uppers and downers. But always the booze. It's the one that really scares me. I mean, I would love a drink right now.
KIDS: Me too!
LUCY: Yeah, it'd be beautiful wouldn't it, that first few minutes when it hits. But you can't expect straights to understand that. All they see is the damage. The agony. The throwing up. Finding yourself down in the garbage. The hustling. The lying and ripping-off your friends. Sweating on another few dollars so that you can make another score. Disgusted. Scared brainless. I was so far down that I couldn't take much more and there only seemed to be one way out. But then someone showed up in my life and made me see that I have got choices.
She turns and looks at Mark.
