Ramsay Street
The auction is over and everyone's leaving. Paulo reckons that Number 28 sold for a fair price and Ren hopes that Doug and Pam will be happy with it. Danni tells Ren and Paulo that the guy who bought the place can definitely afford it - he's a doctor. She leaves to finish a piece of jewellery that she intends to give to Phil - she thinks he could put a photo of Julie in it. Ren thinks it's a nice gesture. Paulo asks to see it when she's done.
Cody approaches Karl and wishes him well in the house. She introduces Sam, who hands out a flyer for his Handy Sam's business to Karl. Phil wanders over looking for Hannah. Cody introduces him to Karl and Karl comments that he's lost a youngster too. Sam tells them that he saw Hannah and a young kid of about 14 wander off before. Karl is distinctly unimpressed, not knowing where to look but Phil reckons he knows most of Hannah's haunts, so offers Karl a lift. They both agree that they don't like their children wandering about.
Lassiter's Lake
Billy and Hannah are knee deep in the lake. Billy's disgusted that it's so dirty and reckons that's why there's no tadpoles. They get out of the lake to dry off. Billy thinks that everything is yucky in Erinsborough and reminisces(!) about how he used to swim in the creek where he came from 9 months of the year! Billy asks what she gets up to in such a boring place. Hannah offers to give him a tour, reckoning that Billy might be surprised at how much there is.
Number 24
Marlene is on the phone, taking a job for Sam. Cody and Sam enter. Cody says her parents will be pleased with the sale price but seems reserved on her opinion of Karl. Sam thinks that he appears to be an all right sort - just a bit standoffish. Marlene gives Sam a set of messages and tells him that he looks like a spunk in his overalls(!) She tells him to make sure he calls all of the jobs back.
MARLENE: Particularly Mrs Hampton. I think she lives in a mansion!
SAM: Yeah?!
MARLENE: Yeah! I told her you work cheap.
SAM: Oh Nan!
Sam isn't pleased! He leaves to get changed for football training. Marlene asks what Cody's up to. Cody says she's going over to Rick's to study, but Marlene thinks that sounds like a contradiction in terms.
Number 30
Rick is listening to music through headphones whilst Cody is trying to study. He criticises her for being on the same page as when he last looked.
CODY: Biology is hard to get into your head.
RICK: You don't learn biology out of books anyway.
CODY: I'm not studying the reproductive system! I'm studying the brain. Some people have one!
Rick starts reading from the book.
RICK: "Neural impulses are transmitted at a rate of 1000 per second." Unreal. No wonder you get tired of thinking.
He lectures Cody on how she doesn't get enough breaks - she needs to knock off every 40 minutes. He suggests that she relax and use her body...and so suggests a daggiest dance competition. Cody thinks it's a stupid idea. Rick puts some music on and starts dancing daftly. He tries to get Cody to join in.
Number 26
Debbie is reading a book on the sofa, whilst Phil and Karl are telling Helen about Hannah and Billy going missing. Phil thinks that wandering off isn't like Hannah, and Debbie snaps that maybe she needed some space. She walks off towards the bedrooms, and Billy and Hannah emerge through the back door. Phil's really concerned about Hannah, whilst Karl angrily quizzes Billy. Karl's not impressed that Billy led Hannah astray and isn't pleased that he's had to impose on their new neighbours. Billy can't believe he bought Number 28. Helen and Phil insist that Karl and Billy stay for dinner. Helen takes Hannah and Billy off to get cleaned up and Phil offers Karl some alcohol.
Number 30
Rick is still trying to get Cody to do a daggy dance. They bicker for a long time over it and eventually Cody agrees. After she's danced, she tries to study again but ends up fooling about with Rick instead.
Number 26
Phil is pouring wine for himself and Karl. He thinks it's nice of Billy to be taking an interest in Hannah. Karl says that Billy likes being the grown up one because his older brother Malcolm gives him a tough time. Phil asks when the family will be joining him and Billy.
KARL: As soon as Sue can get things sorted out up there. It'll be a relief, I can tell you. I'm not much good at being a grass widower.
PHIL: .....no.
KARL: I'm sorry; that was tactless.
Phil tells him not to worry - everyone avoids the subject of death. Karl promises not to and asks how he's coping. Phil avoids the question and drinks his wine. Karl asks if it was an accident and Phil nods.
KARL: Oh, of course, that just makes it worse. When it's sudden, you've got no time to prepare.
PHIL: Yeah. Or say goodbye. Or say you're sorry. Julie was quite a character. Life and soul of Ramsay Street. She'd have loved the idea of a new family like yours coming...
His voice cracks and he apologises. Karl tells him not to be hard on himself. Hannah and Billy come in - they've both got rashes on their legs. Karl looks at them and reckons it's an allergy. Phil remembers that they were wading in the lake. Karl goes to see what he's got in his medical bag.
PHIL: What have I told you about that lake?!
(Er, probably nothing?) Hannah thinks it's wrong that it's so polluted and she's going to do something about it.
Number 30
Rick says 40 minutes are up and they should do kung fu or sumo wrestling but Cody decides to call it a night. Cody leaves just as Danni walks in with her jewellery. Paulo looks impressed, as are Cody and Rick. Paulo thinks he could sell her work and she could have a future in it. Paulo offers to sell her some tools to get her started. He mentions to Ren that he's leaving tomorrow afternoon. Danni wonders where she'll get the money to buy Paulo's tools.
Number 24
Marlene is testing Cody - she's learnt a lot. Sam comes in from a run and Marlene tells him that she's not his secretary - it's stopping her from betting! He says he'll set up an office or something, so she offers him the back room of her shop - and they make a deal on 40/60 rent. Cody goes to visit Deb - she's been completely shut off since Julie died.
Number 26
Debbie is eating a muffin and Hannah is putting cream on her rash. Hannah tells Debbie that her and Billy are going to petition Lassiter's. Debbie says that it won't do any good, but apparently Karl said that Lassiter's have to do something on health grounds. Debbie tells Hannah not to get lost with Billy again. Cody walks in as Hannah leaves.
CODY: Are you busy?
DEBBIE: Kind of.
CODY: ...muffins, eh?
DEBBIE: No, Cody, asparagus(!) Did you want something?
Cody has brought some things from her time in the States, thinking that Debbie might want to see some things before she goes to New York. Cody explains that she's avoiding studying but Debbie is extremely distant.
Number 26 - Garden
Danni gives Phil the jewellery she made as memorial to Julie. Phil thanks her and Danni leaves. Michael comes in as she's going and they awkwardly greet each other. Phil's looking at the jewellery and Michael thinks it was a nice gesture - he's been at the newsagency and Colin has talked his head off. Phil is looking at the wormery and thinks that it's a bitter memorial. Michael tells him not to brood and he's going to buy him some new worms. Phil doesn't like the idea. Michael tells him that life goes on - even for worms. He drags Phil up the garden and the two walk with their arms around each other.
Number 26
Cody's looking through her America papers in the living room. Debbie is cramming chocolate in her mouth whilst standing in the fridge. Cody's yelling stories to her, saying how she got caught in the middle of a bank robbery. When Debbie doesn't react, Cody yells more and Debbie stuffs the chocolate back into the fridge and makes a feeble excuse about getting ice. She comes back in with two drinks whilst Cody animatedly tells her the story about the bank robbery. Suddenly, Cody says that a lady kept screaming - and screams at Debbie. Debbie looks scared to death, screams, drops the drinks on the floor and drops onto the sofa. She is horrified - and Cody doesn't know what's wrong. (Er, you just screamed in her face for no good reason?!)
Number 24
Marlene is concerned that Sam is overdoing things with his training and thinks he needs a partner in his business. Sam doesn't agree and dashes off for training.
MARLENE: You'll be the fittest corpse on the block!
Number 26 - Living Room
Cody's made Debbie a drink and Helen is comforting her. Debbie insists that she doesn't know what's happened to her - and that Cody probably thinks she's crazy. Cody says her nerves are shot. Debbie admits to having nightmares about everything. Helen thinks they need to talk it through because if people bottle things up, emotions comes out in different ways. Cody thinks the scream may have triggered something off but Debbie shies away from the idea. When Helen presses her, she looks uncomfortable.
Number 26 - Kitchen
Michael's looking at some worms in a tub.
MICHAEL: Here you are, fellas! Wait until you see the backyard - five star accommodation! If I was a worm, I'd be rapt!
Phil thanks Michael for coming home and helping. Michael says he'll stay as long as Phil wants - or at least until the pressure is off. Phil comments that the police are still snooping around.
MICHAEL: They make those sort of enquiries with all accidental deaths.
PHIL: You don't think I had anything to do with it?
Michael scoffs and tells him not to be ridiculous. Phil says that it's tough on everyone that they don't know what happened - and maybe they won't ever know.
Number 24
Marlene is looking at Danni's sketches. She says that if Danni makes her jewellery, she'll sell it in her shop. Danni says she can't make them without the tools. Marlene says that she should buy them off Paulo because they're a good price. Marlene offers to buy her the tools if she could be the sole seller of her designs. They shake on it.
Number 30
Paulo is ready to leave and Danni comes in to buy the tools. He gives her $30 that he got from selling her jewellery on the market. He departs and Danni is pleased with her new purchases.
Number 24
The door opens and Marlene guesses that it's Sam, telling him that the phone has been going non-stop. Sam snaps that she can forget the whole business - she turns and sees that Sam is on crutches.
