A horrified Joe rushes after Kerry, staggering through the mud, continually losing his balance. As he reaches her, he realises that she is bleeding profusely. Joe screams and cries in anguish as he cradles Kerry in his arms.

Doug arrives home from work to find Adam studying and Pam reading. They greet him and he says it makes it all worthwhile. He asks after Cody who is depressed after Todd's departure a few episodes previous. Pam tells him that she came home from school and went straight to her room. Adam gets Doug a beer while Pam warns them not to give Cody a hard time. Adam's confident Cody will forget about Todd as soon as she meets someone else. The demand he promise to not say anything. He finally relents.
Daphne's
Harold and Toby are tidying up. Harold congratulates Tobes on his good job sweeping. Toby asks to be paid to which Harold says he's just like Joe. Toby remarks that a man needs to get paid. Harold agrees to pay him $2 on the condition he puts some in Sky's money box. Toby is miffed as Sky didn't do anything. Madge arrives after finishing work and attends to Sky. Eddie's gone home for the day for a date. Madge decides to take the kids home as soon as Harold's finished stacking things. Amber arrives and Madge asks after Kerry and Joe. Amber ignores her and goes to talk to Harold. She demands to speak with him in private. He takes her through to the kitchen where she tells him that Kerry's been shot. Harold is clearly stunned. Kerry's been taken to hospital and Joe's with her.

Pam brings the washing in. Adam stirs her up and she gets Doug to help her sort them. As soon as Doug gets up, Adam dives into the rocking chair. Pam can't see the attraction in it. She asks Doug about the Felicity Brent job he's doing and he tells her it's very slow as Felicity is overbearing. She tells him to keep it strictly business. Cody comes out of her room saying it's nearly 6pm and runs to the tape recorder, takes out Adam's tape and puts hers in. Adam is annoyed but Pam tells him to leave it as She and Todd promised to listen to the same thing at the same time every night. Pam and Doug head to the bedroom but not before telling him to shut up.
Cody sits back and has a series of flashbacks (read clip show) of her relationship with Todd. Adam sarcastically remarks "isn't love grand". Cody is greatly offended and calls him a creep.

Amber takes Toby and Sky inside. Toby asks why they're home. She's strung out and tells him to stop whinging. He asks lots of questions about when Kerry's coming home and she makes excuses. He gets it into his head that Kerry's been arrested again. Matt Robinson arrives home. Amber sends the kids into the other room while she tells Matt what actually happened. Matt is in shock and asks how bad she is. He wants to go but she gets him to say. He's certain she'll be fine.
Erinsbourough Hospital
Joe sits in shock. He runs into Harold and Madge who ask him what happened. The Doctor comes out and tells them that Kerry has died. Joe reacts badly and screams for Kerry saying he doesn't believe it.

Doug asks when dinner will be ready. He's starving and eventually she gets started. She asks Cody to do the onions but Adam says she's too lovesick. He asks her what the story is with the song. She only tells him when he promises not to laugh - it's a song she and Todd used to listen to and the promised to listen to it at 6pm every day so they could think about each other. He tells her it's romantic except there's a half hour time difference so they're not really doing it at the same time. She's horrified and says she'll have to play it again. Doug moans in disbelief. He tries to reason with her saying he'd rather not listen to it all the time. He gives her a portable tape player so she can listen to it in her room. She heads to her room. He asks her why they picked the song body heat. She gets annoyed and runs off. Pam makes him finish the onions off.

Matt sits alone as Amber comes in. He asks after the kids. He wonders if they should call the hospital. He is sure she'll be fine. Amber says it's her fault that Kerry has been hurt. He tells her to leave it. Amber feels completely responsible. Matt tells her to shut up and that she'll be fine. Madge enters. She just shakes her head, Amber realises she's died and breaks down. Matt is shocked. Tobes runs out and Madge hides her tears and tells him that Joe is with Harold and will be home soon. He asks if Kerry is still in jail. Matt gets him to leave again. Matt asks if he should tell the kids the truth. Madge says it's a bad idea and best to leave it to Joe. Madge says he's in a bad way.

Harold and Joe sit in stunned silence. Joe cries uncontrollably. He says he doesn't know how to feel. Harold tries to reassure him. Joe thinks of Toby and wants to tell him but Harold sits him down. He doesn't know what to tell the kids saying they won't understand. Harold doesn't understand. He says she was bright and alive that morning, but now she's gone. Joe says he wishes it was a dream and that she will wake him up. Harold says there's no reason that it's happened. He can't believe it's possible. Madge returns. She tells them everything is ok with the kids. Joe asks if they know. Madge says they don't. He says he'll do it now to get it out of the way. Madge says it's a bad idea as he's in not state to tell them.

Dinner's ready. Pam snaps at Adam but apologises. Bodyheat is driving everyone up the walls. The song stops and everyone is thankful for the peace. Adam suggest a distraction for Cody to keep her busy. He can't acutaly think of any off the top of his head though. The song starts again and Pam tells him to make it quick.

Matt is reading to Kerry. Toby is being a pain and won't do what he's told, saying he doesn't have to. Matt tries to reason with him. Amber loses her temper and tells him to do as he's told or he'll get a smack. She apologises but he's twigged something's the matter and asks when Kerry's coming home. Joe arrives gives him a hug. Harold is with him. He calls the kids over and they ask about Kerry and when she'll be out of jail. Matt explains Toby's thinking and Joe tells them that's now how it is. Amber thinks they should wait but Harold says now is the time.
TOBY: What's happened to Mum?
Joe looks shell shocked.
Later Amber and Matt are sitting together. She says she hasn't seen anything worse than Joe's face when he told the kids. Matt agrees. She observes he was on emotional autopilot. Neither of them know how to help Joe. Joe comes in after putting Toby to bed. Matt asks about Toby and Joe tells him that he's very shaken up. Amber asks if there's anything to be done. Joe tells her he's borrowing her sleeping bag so he can bunk in with Toby to keep him company. He tells Amber to sleep in his room. She doesn't' want to. Matt goes to have a beer with Joe.

Dinner is finally served. Doug isn't allowed to have one more beer. Cody is called for dinner. Doug continues to talk about the Felicity Brent project and says Joe really gets into his work. The remark that Joe wasn't at all interested in Felicity and it shows how much he loves Kerry. They don't know she's died and remark she's a lovely girl. Doug says they should have them over for a BBQ. Pam wants to get to know Kerry better. Cody and Adam arrive but she's not too hungry. Cody accidently pours the sauce onto the potato. Adam makes another remark. Doug tries to talk to her and suggests she could make some tapes to send to Todd instead of writing to him. Adam says she can borrow the walkman. Cody asks why they're all being so nice to her. Adam says he knows what she's going through and that it's the pits to break up. She yells they've not broken up and goes off in a huff. Doug asks if there's anything worse than a lovesick teenager. Pam says there is - a son who won't give her a break.

Joe is starring at his beer as Amber and Matt watch. Matt tries to get him to stop drinking but Joe doesn't hear him. Matt offers to take time off work to help him. Joe thanks him. Matt says he's very sorry and doesn't know what to say. He can't believe she's gone. Amber says she knows it's hard to see anything good out of Kerry's death, but at least she lived a life doing what she believed in and to die for it. Joe is enraged at this and tells Amber it's all her fault. He throws her out and Matt hugs him as he is numb in shock.
